I've been tagging along with my friend who is currently seeing Dr. Craig Mortensen for her autoimmune disorder. His approach to it is something that needs to be taught and implemented in all practices. My friend has been living with her skin issues for several years and after extensive research has tried intolerable diets, lifestyle changes, and UV therapy, among other things. Some things seemed to help slightly for a bit but then things would just keep getting worse overall. We saw multiple traditional doctors and dermatologists, all of whom just wanted to put her on drugs (which have terrifying side effects). She was at her wits end... When we found Dr. Mortensen, he didn't even really look at her skin too much, but instead his approach was to look at the root cause of the issue. He had her take several tests in order to see what was going on inside her body, and through those tests, he could see where the likely cause was and set to provide a very strict regimen of high strength supplements and a special diet which is tolerable. After about a year working with Dr. Mortensen (meeting with him every couple of months), we are actually seeing lasting changes to her skin. He's excellent with responding via email and with getting supplements shipped out fast. If I were to quantify it, in the past, the most improvement would have been around 20% but then would drop back down. Since seeing Dr. Mortensen, we are noticing improvement around 70-80% which is incredible. We are still working with Dr. Mortensen and would highly recommend him to anyone who has been disappointed with their results elsewhere for their psoriasis or other autoimmune disorder. read more

I WAS happy seeing Dr. Jody Rotuna, but then the few times I had to see the older Dr. Mortensen who was seeing her patients. Nice guy, but I have NEVER seen him wear a mask. A doctor...touching you...not wearing a mask!!! I also realized that the lady at the front desk never wore a mask. Yes, there is a plexiglass divider, but you have to also wear a mask! Be aware, this office does not require wearing a face mask for their staff and patients when I visited. I chose not to return to the office for personal safety. I had a negative experience with staff member Jeanie when I called concerning a bill from the office. I wanted to know why I was getting billed and where the amount was coming from instead of blindly paying a bill the office sent. Overall, she spoke to me in a very condescending and defensive manner as if I was unreasonable to question the bill and mentioning they've "been doing this for years". It took many back and forth calls between my insurance and the office to finally figure out and explain to me the reason for my bill. Essentially, the office charged me a PCP copay instead of the specialist copay and billed me the difference. I'm not sure why they were not able to figure out that reason initially. read more

This place was recommended to me. I showed up promptly at 4p for my appt, only to be told my appt was at 3p and that my gift certificate was no longer valid (it was cashed out by them) because I was a no show. In addition, they would not be able to see me because they were full. The best they can do? They will call me after they speak to the owner to see if they want to reimburse some or part of the gift certificate credit. Dear Owner, I took time off work and drove 30 miles because your office was recommend to me by one of your loyal patients. How this was handled with the assumption that the error was mine and the inflexibility in that response, leaves a bad taste. You may want to give your front desk staff autonomy to make some judgement calls. I was not a no show, I showed at the time I believe I was originally scheduled. read more

I have been a patient of Placentia Chiropractic Center since the early 1990s. I would remain a patient for life, no doubt, if I wasn't about to undertake a long-distance move. Just the same, when I'm back in town visiting family you can bet I will schedule a tune-up with Placentia Chiropractic Center. I wasn't always a believer in chiropractic -- mainly because it wasn't something anyone in my family was particularly familiar with. But when you exhaust conventional care and don't find relief, opinions change. Years ago, while visiting Knott's Berry Farm, I suffered not my first but among my worst "whiplash" injuries thanks to a 6' friend who was bouncing on a suspension bridge in front of me. I lost my balance -- or rather my neck did -- and from that time forward I seemed unusually vulnerable to painful spasms that made it difficult to turn my head. By the Fall of that year it wasn't taking much to set the spasms off. Schlepping my textbooks and art portfolio to/from classes at Fullerton Junior College was the final straw. It had reached point where I could not look over my left shoulder for months on end, making it difficult to drive safely or, for that matter, sleep at night. After six months of physical therapy at St. Jude Hospital, the PTs gave up on me because I still could not turn my head to the left to look over my shoulder. They concluded I had congenitally-weak muscles along the spine. I was on my own, still in pain 24/7. That's when I learned about Placentia Chiropractic. Enter Dr. Christopher Mortensen -- the doc who would change my painful young adulthood. A couple of X-rays and a couple of visits later, Dr. Mortensen, the founder of this practice, had me turning my head again. Was I scared at first to hear all that popping and cracking? Absolutely. But when I realized that I felt better, it became music to my ears. Even though getting to this office has always entailed a 30-40-minute drive, I have returned to Placentia Chiropractic Center again and again over the years. After a car accident in early 1997 I had no less than 52 visits. After a low back injury in late 1998, this was the first place I sought help. Over the years the chiropractors with whom Dr. Mortensen works have changed. Each has brought a fresh take and a unique approach. Dr. Rotuna miraculously took away my perpetual morning back pain by adjusting T12 -- when all along I had been blaming it on an old L4/5 disc injury. Dr. Ward and Dr. Adams -- both of whom are no longer with the practice -- helped me get my rotated hips aligned, allowing me to enjoy less referred pain and the convenience of being able to sleep on either side at night without being awoken to "hip" pain. Dr. Adams even found a way to successfully adjust my Middle-age problem -- a Dowenger's at the base of my neck, which had proven not to respond well in prior attempts. Dr. Craig Mortensen, in his practice of functional medicine, has expanded the practice in a huge way. (I just wish my insurance would cover his services!) The longtime staff at Placentia Chiropractic Center are equally fantastic. I have had the (mis)fortune to see a lot of medical professionals over the years and the odd thing about so many otherwise good doctors is that they tend, in my experience, to be lousy at hiring good staff for customer (patient)-facing positions. Dr. Judy is so sweet, accommodating and is willing to teach you about your care and why you feel bad, which I haven't experienced with other chiropractors. I highly recommend Dr. Rotuna. Without her I would have never known I have a subtle scoliosis (and I have seen other Chiropractors for years for other problems). She is friendly, courteous, professional, answers all your questions and gives you advice as to how to care for your spine issues with exercises, tools and supplement recommendations. This review is based on my 16-year-old daughter's initial appointment with Dr. Jody Rotuna. My daughter had seen a different chiropractor for months with no, to little improvement, and this was basically our second opinion. We were told to arrive 15 minutes early, to fill out new patient paperwork. The receptionist was very kind and welcoming and we filled out the necessary forms. I should point out that the office is kinda tricky to find. Should you ever visit, it's in the IHOP center on Kraemer and Chapman. The main entrance is not inside one of the two buildings, but rather on the back side of the first building, if looking at it from Kraemer. Dr. Rotuna was on time, introduced herself, and gave us a quick tour of the office. This was especially helpful to learn the layout, where bathrooms are located, and so forth. My daughter explained several of the pain conditions she was experiencing and without hesitation, the Dr listened, examined her spine and recommended a scoliosis test. While the results were more positive than not, she identified something called Dowager's Hump. This is becoming more common with the current generation as they slump over their devices. The Dr handed us an assortment of paper resources. These included your nervous system and the function of each, proper back stretching exercises, spinal disc health, and more. The Do's and Don'ts of each are lessons or reminders, depending on how you look at it. She then adjusted my daughter in more places than I've ever seen! These included her ears, fingers, hips, and ankles! Keep in mind, she experiences discomfort in many of these areas, so the Dr would also share wisdom as she worked on key areas. Her terminology is simple to understand as well. In relating to my daughter's Converse shoes, she mentioned how not having an arch and better support, can cause back and joint problems, much like poor tires can make an automobile less functionable. Just when we thought we were done, she had my kid lay on this table that also moved and provided her with a hearty stretch. This helped the spine and vertebrae space apart some. Afterwards, she moved to the massage table and this too was impressive. Not one you just lie there on to receive a massage by a therapist, but one that electronically provided a rolling/kneading motion to the back of the body and heat! Supposedly, it's a complimentary treatment option that another doctor allows his chiropractors to use on their patients! My daughter left feeling great and is optimistic about future appointments and long term care. The bonus is that she's covered under Kaiser and receives so many visits per year for $5 each. This place appears to be two brothers who are Chiropractors sharing a practice. The lady working the front desk is friendly and efficient. Wait time seems to be kept to a minimum. The chiropractors seem intelligent, friendly, and good communicators. They also provide a variety of styles of chiropractic care. They have the spring tables, they offer actuator based torque release method, and the "hands on" method. They have their own x-ray machine and can get to work on you immediately. Moved from Diamond Bar to the area three years ago and was in need of a Chiropractor recently. I decided to look on Yelp and decided to give them a try. Turned out to be a great decision This father and son duo work well together to help get you up and running again. I am not a big Chiropractor going kind of guy and told them so. No pressure, lecture, etc. They are just there to help. Turns out that our Chiro from Diamond Bar trained under the father of this duo. They are good friends and use the same sort of techniques which is comforting when someone has their hands around your neck! While it didn't dawn on my to ask my siblings for a referral as they don't live right in the area, it turns out they have been going here for years. And the price is absolutely right! I have no coverage under my health insurance so it is all out of pocket. My wife swears by her Diamond Bar Chiro but will be visiting these Dr's when she needs an adjustment. read more

I went for my DMV physical that is required for my job every 2 years. Last time I did my physical I needed it done immediately so I spent a lot more then I should have because I didn't do a lot of research. The average price of DMV physical is about $70, and I spent $147 when I went to CVS's Minute Clinic. Here they charge $60 for credit/debit and $40 for cash and takes a little less then an hour. I was able to call a day before and schedule an appointment to be seen for my physical. I brought in the DMV paperwork, but they also have it available for you if needed. The woman at the front desk was extremely helpful and friendly. The Doctor that saw me was also friendly and gave me his full and undivided attention. I have never been here before, but he really took the time to ask me questions and get to know me. I will be coming back here at least every 2 years for my physical, if not also for chiropractic work if needed. read more

Dr. Craig saved my life - I truly believe those words to my core. I was first sold on him when we went to my initial consultation. I brought my husband, who was a skeptic in the realm of holistic health. We both walked out feeling that Dr. Craig was a competent Dr., and we believed he could turn my health situation around. This was no easy task as my health had been declining for several years, and we could not figure out why. Western doctors just wanted to give me steroids and other crazy meds. I was showing signs of a severe auto-immune disorder and my test results verified it. This place is amazing. Our entire family comes here. I can't believe how low the prices are, which is why we switched to here. Everything is super nice. It's in a pretty building. Dr. Jody really made me feel awesome! Well not really; let me explain. A week prior I had an over the handlebar mountain bike fall where I bumped my head hard enough where I had neck and shoulder pain. So I had no unrealistic expectation of that being fixed. However Dr. Jody was able to alleviate much of the pain and as a whole make my body feel great. I did continue to have neck pain for a few more days, however I feel that if I hadn't gone to Dr. Jody that the pain would've continued much longer. read more

So I got into an accident , felt like I cracked a rib. Wanted x-rays done, Judy took them and the only one I was concerned about didnt come out so there was no way of knowing for sure if my rib was fractured or not. Judy with 30 yrs experience decides she is still gonna do some therapy on me. WTF!! No use of common sense on her part there . so i went along with it hoping she would break what i thought was a fractured rib the rest of the way so i could go after her for malpractice or whatever. She told me we would look at the x rays the next visit. I went to the next visit told her i wanted to talk about the x rays , she said she was with another patient, she handed me a form and said read this I will be back. Took me 3 seconds to notice fractured rib unlikely and walks with a limp. I not dumb enough to stick with some one that lies for profit.I walked out said I wouldnt do therapy till my rib felt better. Got set up for a CT scan and yes 2 fractured ribs. She called and wanted to know when i was coming to talk to her about my ribs and what therapy we could do........Ya fucking right im gonna go back to you Judy? You tried to crack my back with fractured ribs and if i didnt move when you did you could have done more harm to my back. If i could give less then a star i would cause this place is suppose to deal with health issues correctly. I was referred to Dr Mortenson. By my co-worker who frequent this office. The doctors and Helen are very professional and friendly. They also know what they are doing and going to the sessions have helped my back pain. If your insurance covered for chiropractic that is a big bonus. When walking into the office, it feels very welcoming. The doctor will take ex ray before adjusting and you will get to relax in a private room on the electrical massage table. If you also want a medical message, the price for Oct is around $40. You will received email reminders which i like as well since i tracked everything on my phone. I enjoyed going here because its not fancy swancy but its straight to the point and most important helped me relax and relieved stress. His staff were friendly, patient (I messed up a DMV form that had tobe perfect), and I was seen right after I finished filling in my paperwork. Be ready to give a urine sample before you go in. I pulled my back out about a month ago and about the worst ever. I remembered Dr Mortensen was local and he does the health screenings for the varsity sports teams for VHS. His staff was efficient and professional and after about 4 sessions with Dr. Mortensen of adjustments and electrical stim therapy I was walking upright again and able to get back to work.
