I cannot say enough good things about the Placer SPCA. A small family of feral cats recently took up residence in our yard. We were okay with their presence and meeting their basic needs, but didn't want them to multiply. I contacted the SNAP (Spay & Neuter Assistance Program) coordinator and got a fast response. They loaned us a trap and trained us in the basics. This team is doing great work and are so efficient. I have been impressed every step of the way. Used to donate all my things but won't do it again. This is the most ridiculous shelter ever. Acres of room for lots of animals and you walk in you see a few over priced dogs for $150.00 or $200.00 in huge glass cages, no other animals in the space, huge wasted kennels. Less than 10 dogs I. This huge facility is a waste of money and space. One could put 30 animals in the entrance alone, huge waste. Bradshaw in Sacramento is way better, may be an older facility but at least it's not a waste. The one in Roseville is set up for wealthy people. The worst facility I've ever seen. read more

This post is 6 months Late. Thank you Placer SPCA for our forever family member. Binx (formerly known as Cicero) has been nothing but a joy in our lives. There is nothing I look forward to more, than coming home to Binx and getting cuddles. We adopted him as a scrawny, patchy, skittish, little adult cat. He has blossomed into a strong, muscular, fluffy, loving, and vocal beautiful ball of sunshine! Did I mention he is phenomenal at playing catch? You can throw a toy from across the room, and he can catch it in mid air! Its crazy what 6 months of unconditional love and nourishment can do to an animal. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the Roseville SPCA is on Tahoe Street in Roseville. Unfortunately I had to surrender my 12-year-old cat which I had adopted from there 2 1/2 years ago due to my homelessness. They seem to really care to find her a new home. Nine months later when I was able to obtain an apartment in Roseville I again was able to adopt Another senior cat to be my companion.They seem to really care about the dogs and cats and at other times see quite a few rabbits, rats, and hamsters. Our cat recently passed and we decided to go get a new cat. The next day we realized we weren't ready for a new cat so we took her back. My grandma had to take me since my mom was too upset. When we arrived this girl at the front desk let me say, absolutely awful. Complete bitch. I was in tears explaining we needed to bring her back bc we weren't ready due to the passing of our last cat. I then said I'd like to pay for her adoption to be sure she finds a home fast and this chick cuts me off and goes "We don't do that, sorry." She hands me a paper and says "sign this saying she's not yours anymore and you're done. Thanks, bye." Wish I would've gotten her name, but she had glasses and dirty ombré blonde and brown hair, acne covered face. You guys need to get some nicer employees/volunteers. Dirty, nasty. Horrendous people work there, no one answers the phone. You set an appointment and arrive an hour later, animal is gone. No phone call to tell you the animal is gone, and then they are rude to you when you arrive. I feel bad for the dogs and cats come here. read more

I love this place! I have been here a few times to donate food and treats and another time to adopt our blind cat! They have two rooms with cats, and another room with kittens. Everything was super clean and the cats looked well taken care of. I cannot say anything about the dogs or the dog room since we weren't looking for a dog, but I'm sure it was similar. If you see a cat you like you will need to track down an employee who will take you and the cat to one of two empty rooms to hangout for a few minutes to see if it's a good fit. It can get pretty crowded and busy here, but the employees are doing their best, so just be patient. I think it's good that a lot of animals are being adopted out, but unfortunately a lot are also being brought in. This is one of the smaller shelters I've been to, but I think it's also one of the busiest in a good way! Fortunately animals don't seem to stay too long. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking to adopt a forever friend! read more

I am not only a volunteer at the SPCA, but a proud mommy of two cats I have adopted here as well. The volunteers and staff are well educated in the care of the animals as well as the adoption process. Everyone is very friendly and very helpful when it comes to finding a new member for your family. They have a large assortment of animals to choose from. They have adoption counselors and socializing rooms you can use to get to know your potential new pet. They always have specials going for different animals. The facility is large and kept very clean. They never euthanize for space issues, which can be a real comfort. This is just a great organization overall. read more

I love this place and have gotten two cats here. It can seem chaotic at first. Don't be fooled. Also go when you have plenty of time to think and visit with an animal. Both animals I got here have made WONDERFUL PETS! Most recently I got a cat with special needs. He had one eye surgically removed at some point in his life. They were able to give me some history because he's been chipped. I basically asked the technician, were she going to adopt any cat, which one would it be. She ran and got me this adult male cat. He was very scruffy. Don't be fooled. I asked why they aren't bathed and she said if they bath a cat it will most likely act out. And if any animal acts out they have to quarantine it for two weeks thus decreasing the potential for adoption. This totally made sense to me. As I was leaving with him, several workers told me what a nice cat he was. I figured they had had way more time to observe the cats so asking was a good idea. He was a bit snappy at first in his new environment but that changed. He is docile and loving and SO devoted that he follows me around. He has become best friends with one of my cats and they go everywhere together. He is just the sweetest cat ever and I am so grateful to have been given this recommendation. My other cat is a big fat baby who I got as a kitten at SPCA Auburn. He's now a healthy adult make with NO issues. I had to get the ear mites cleaned a couple times as a kitten but those are hard to eradicate in a shelter environment. Of all the adoption places in the area, SPCA is by far the best one. They are just as good and just as friendly and clean. I want to reiterate how offensive FFACS a is. Do NOT go there. It will be time in your life you can never get back. The owner is SO offensive and mostly won't let you take one of her cats anyway. She's a nut and I don't think she really wants to adopt out cats anyway but it's just one big post retirement hobby for her. Probably she can get support by claiming its a business but she rarely adopts them out and she is rude and condescending and just plain nasty. I can't stress enough: don't waste your time! read more

Seven months ago I adopted George, who had cancer and needed hospice care. He was a wonderful dog--beautifully trained, loving, great companion. We bonded immediately and had a wonderful seven months. But, as expected, there came a time when George lost his battle with cancer and we both knew he no longer had a quality life. The SPCA had said they would have their vet provide euthanasia services when it was George's time so I called to make an appointment. Now here's the cruel and unbelievable part--I was told that I could not accompany George during the process. Not because of COVID because I adopted him after a personal visit with him with a mask on and the staff there is masked. It was "their policy" per the girl on the phone. He would be surrendered at the front door and marched through a kennel situation down cold halls to a cold room and then killed without anyone he loved or who loved him around. Killed in the same situation I rescued him from. It's their policy. I just couldn't do that to my friend and companion so I paid my own vet, who did allow me to ease George on his journey, to administer the shots. We had a private room with a blanket, he and I snuggled with his head in my lap with the vet, vet tech and me petting him and talking to him up until the end. And the shelter staff girl on the phone treated me like I was being unreasonable for asking to be with him; she actually sounded relieved that they wouldn't have to pay their vet to perform the euthanasia! I have been a long-time financial supporter of the shelter but I am rethinking my donations now after this cruel, callous, heartless treatment of George. Inexcusable! read more

As a volunteer, I must say this place is SPECTACULAR! I love animals of all shapes and kinds, and I joined the Placer SPCA as a Volunteer after the Orientation 2 years ago. What I really think sets the SPCA apart is that they council all potential adopters to make sure the animal they are interested in will work in their home. For instance, if a dog does well as the only pet in the home, they wont allow it to be adopted by a person who owns 3 cats already. Some dogs do best with children over the age of 12, so the SPCA will not allow that dog to go home with a person with a 1 year old, and 4 year old. The reason for this is their desire to place every adopted pet into their "forever home"... imagine you yourself were up for adoption... you wouldnt want to be tossed from home to home all the time, now would you? Additionally, the Mentors and the Staff look over the volunteers to make sure that all the animals are being properly treated and trained by the Volunteers, and they go to great lengths to insure the quality of life, exercise, socialization, and happiness of the animals while at the facility. Furthermore I think it is very upstanding that they will not put down an animal due to limitations on time, or space... they will simply turn animals away or have them taken to a different facility for surrender. I personally know several of the staff members and I find that their devotion the safety, well-being, and happiness of the animals truly touching. Not only that but the volunteers work very hard to help train the animals or housebreak and socialize them before being placed with their adopters to insure that neglected or abused animals find a place they can be happy. I am so glad that places like Placer SPCA exist. read more

Just went in tonight for their monthly low cost rabies($5) and microchip($15) clinic for my 6 month old pup! Registration starts at 5 with the clinic going from 6-7. I did my research as to where in the Sacramento I could get reasonable priced rabies and microchip. The Placer SPCA had the lowest prices! I found the Rabies to range from $5-12 and the Microchip to range from $20-36 at other places. I got there early! Highly recommend. If you blink you'll miss the Placer SPCA off Corporation Yard Rd. It's behind a chain fence. I had to go down the road twice! They have you fill in some paperwork about your pet and each clipboard is numbered so that is the order they call once 6 rolls around. They ask that you wait outside or in your cars as quite a few people take advantage of this clinic. I sat in my car and watched the mini dog parade go by! At 6 they called 4 numbers in a time and took us in a private room to get the shot.At the end, we were directed to the front desk to get the necessary vaccination certificate and were ushered out a different exit. Once the clinic started I was in and out in 11 minute but I was lucky clipboard number 1! I wasn't looking to adopt but I did check out the cat and dog facilities. There were plenty of friends looking for homes. They were clean with identifying paperwork for each pet! read more

The facility was clean and smelled good, the animals seemed to at peace, the staff seemed caring and there were a steady stream of walk-ins checking out who's on deck. The whole operation was a good example of how shelter's should be run. It's very transparent, innovative, and you can feel the TLC oozing out of this place. My daughter rescued a 2 week old kitten from Denio's and took her here with the clear understanding that she would adopt it once it was available. This information was placed in the kitten's file and she called weekly to check on its status. Today when she called, they told her that the kitten had been spayed and adopted out over the weekend, by mistake. She is heartbroken and they acknowledged that they realized the error that same day, but were not willing to do anything to rectify the situation. Shame on them for caring so little for those who love the very animals they are supposed to serve. We pray Nugget (yes she had named her and had photos) has a good home. They have lost every aspect of our support and respect for adopting out her kitten and taking no responsibility for it. read more

The staff at this shelter are awful. The only friendly people I encountered were the volunteers who showed me around. I was with my son and was interested in a senior cat, during my time in the cat room an older woman walked in and scolded me about my fingers being near the openings on the cage . When I inquired about the senior cat she stated he was on "expensive food" and it would be for the rest of his life and I should adopt a different cat that she favored- a cat which I might add reached out of her cage and scratched me as I walked by. So needless to say I left and will never come back to this shelter. Your staff is obnoxious and insulting. read more

Me and my girlfriend called them because we saw a stray Dog. The dog was behind a fence down Dyer lane and it was hungry and thirsty but couldn't have access to neither food nor water, They said they'd come down there soon but after 3 long hours of the dog being stuck behind the fence, they were no where near and wouldn't pick the phone up again. We decided to let the dog out on the road and gave him water from our water bottles and kept asking people driving by if they wanted it until a lady stopped by and said she had a husky at home and would nurture this dog because it looked very young. Poor job on these guys' side, if we weren't there and it was 100 degrees instead of 75, the dog would probably die from thirst. read more

At first I wasn't sure about this place because the rude volunteer with the short red hair tried to argue with my dad about the subject of dog training. My dad has been a professional dog trainer most of his life and trained dogs in the military. She made us both very uncomfortable. We only had to deal with her for a few minuets though while we filled out paperwork to adopt an adorable wire fox terrier names Molly. The man at the front desk named Scott was AMAZING and very helpful and friendly. He made the experience so much better. Molly is home with us now and we love her. Just wish they would get rid of the rude redhead lady because I see other people on here have complained about her as well. I would give this place 5 stars because Scott was great but that redhead had effected the whole experience in a negative way read more

If they treat their animals how they treat their customers, then we have got a HUGE problem. I left this location absolutely torn to pieces by the two front receptionists. One with long hair and a fat attitude, and the other who interrogated me about appearance...shout-out to you with the glasses and blonde hair. They both work morning shift at reception, so maybe if you can avoid that shift you can avoid leaving here without feeling like a worthless human being. Oh, and prayers that the animals here don't get touched by either two of these foul women--they seem like very twisted people. read more

After my twenty four hour hold was let go on Ceasar and after telling my fiancé the how I was treated my the lead adopter, he went to go check it out for himself. Ceasar immediately loved my fiancé, and my fiancé immediately loved him and knew he would be a perfect fit at our house. So he adopted him out that day and a couple hits later Ceasar was finally at his forever home. Not only are they inseparable but Ceasar put Bella my pit/ lab mix in her place, in a good way. He has established dominance as the male in the house and gets along with Bella and our three felines who don't mind him at all. I hated going around the backs of the SPCA members but they would not give me a chance or even let Cease Louise have a chance at growing and being his own dog. He is so happy with us and we love him just as much right back. As for the SPCA of Roseville they need to rethink the about their selfish staff and inconsistent meet and greets between adopters and adoptees. read more

I have to agree with Thomas. No form of communication or anything. We have adopeted before and this is by far the Worst experience especially with this facility. We first visited as a walk in with no help or welcoming experience EXCEPT from the volunteer, not even a worker. We set our appointment to meet the animal in person, now it comes to the day of the meeting. Rush to pick up my boys from school, my daughter calls out of work to help us and we arrive 10 minute late. Now mind you we called twice before our appointment time to let them know we are running a little behind and NO ANSWER. We get there and find out they gave our spot away to a WALK IN and theres nothing they can do for us. No sympathy in her voice or anything the girl with the two buns on her head was anything but helpful. My daughter asks well since we came all this way can we atleast use the remaining time of our appointment time and they say no we have better luck walking in. Yet thats what we did the first time and they made us make an appointment? but another family can walk in with no appointment and take ours? Theyve made this process such a disappointment. My 19 year old daughter has better receptionist skills than these women at the desk. If you are going to give a spot away atleast contact the family and let them know. LET PEOPLE KNOW THE RULES WHEN THEY MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, no grace period or nothing. 10 minutes late ruined a families day with service that didnt make it any better. read more

I was very disappointed by this place and I feel bad for the animals. The volunteers are terrible. One basically told us that we probably wont even want to take out an animal to socialize with. Plus you got old volunteers that talk your ear off about useless things when all you want to do is look around. My boyfriend found one dog and tried to pet him through the gate...an old lady told us not to do that because we might transfer kennel cough, then she went and did exactly the same thing. Im a vet tech and if one dog had kennel cough, they all would get it. We wanted to see our options but the volunteers dont want you to cause theyre too busy with themselves and the dogs, not giving you a chance to see if you can find a right match for you. read more

I volunteered here until I became busy with both school and work, but I love this place. The dedication of all of the volunteers is commendable. The animals remain a priority and everything is done to help them find their forever homes. Even when there is no more room, no animal gets left out and so the crates come out into the lobby area. That is what I love, the care about not only maintaining the status of an SPCA but actually following the message. The workers are very friendly and helpful. There are many services available geared towards helping people keep their pets, whether its help with medical bills or walkers for the elderly, to cheap spay, neuter services this is a place in which animals are a priority and it shows. read more
