We will not be back. We came in and the volunteer who we dealt with was very rude and unfriendly. She also seemed very uninformed. I didn't get her name but she had short reddish hair. The facilities here are so sad and out of date. Placer Co. Can do much better than this, but if they hire rude volunteers, that could be why they don't get better donations. read more

I have been to this location three times in the last couple of months looking for the right dog for my family. Every time I have been in here I have experienced nothing but rude employees. They speak down to you, talk to you like your entirely stupid, and don't know how to say excuse me and just push past you. I volunteered here until I became busy with both school and work, but I love this place. The dedication of all of the volunteers is commendable. The animals remain a priority and everything is done to help them find their forever homes. Even when there is no more room, no animal gets left out and so the crates come out into the lobby area. That is what I love, the care about not only maintaining the status of an SPCA but actually following the message. The workers are very friendly and helpful. There are many services available geared towards helping people keep their pets, whether its help with medical bills or walkers for the elderly, to cheap spay, neuter services this is a place in which animals are a priority and it shows. read more

I asked to see a dog that I have had my eye on for awhile now and was told no because I live in an apartment. The two lady's were very rude and didn't even ask what the situation was. They just assumed that I couldn't take care of him. Wanted to volunteer here but don't want to be apart of rude staff. Yes I do live in an apartment but am home all day everyday. I have no need to work and am looking for a dog to keep me company and get me motivated to get out on my bike again or go to parks.. I see no harm in having a dog in an apartment if the person taking care of the dog will have it outside all day and not cooped up. I love animals but don't like the staff here :( read more

Matt (15 yrs old) adopted me in April. It didn't take him long to learn how to get over the fence. He's gotten really good at it--3 times this week. I don't want to have to bring him back but I don't want to turn him into a Frisbee. I'm glad I adopted a kitten from this place. She's literally the best kitten, I very much enjoy her company. It gets quite busy around this place because animals would get adopt in and out all the time. This facility is very small compared to the one I have visited in the Bay Area. SPCA need to invest more money in creating a bigger facility for dogs because it's just too small. In the summer it's super hot and they can only offer turning on the fan for them. Also they should build an actual dog park for them to run around. I love their cat facility, it's clean and organized. read more

I got my dog here a year ago and the staff was great. They let us take him out and play with him for hours before we officially adopted him. He had to be neutered before we could take him home. Their personality analysis was a little off. It said he was aggressive with food but he is definitely not. I stuck my hand in his food the first day we had him and he just looked at me. It also said he shouldn't have any cats or small pets but he gets along well with both. My roommate at the time had a bunch of cats and he played with all of them. He is a wonderful dog and the staff, despite the analysis, had spent a lot of time with him outside playing and it was clear they took care of him. There were many friendly dogs there. I would definitely go back. In fact I'm looking for a feline friend today; I'll be there shortly! :) read more

I had no idea how sick this kitten was. Was charged $99 and given to us with tapeworms. Spent $80 at the Vet for him to tell me the SPCA gave me a very sick kitten. Now my daughter will probably have to say goodbye to a kitten she's only had for 1 week. Would never recommend. read more

Thank you to the SPCA in Roseville who helped us through a very difficult time to find a good home for our 9 year old BooBoo. We were devastated after we were told by our HOA that we could not keep her. We cried & it broke our hearts to have to let her go. I still check everyday to see if someone brought her back. We miss her terribly & so does her bestie, our 6 year old Japanese Chin, Lola. They loved each other so much, were best friends, kissed each other daily & could not leave each other's sides. Lola has had a hard time with this loss but is getting better. Thank you to the great staff for helping us to make this a soft landing. You are the best!! read more

I am very disappointed with Placer SPCA. I have been a financial supporter for a long time and my experiences with them are not positive. From the start there has been attitude issues as in rudeness and very unresponsive. Over the summer we had a small black kitty that was hanging around our house. This kitty was friendly and was obviously abandoned. We called Placer SPCA and they continually blew us off. Finally my husband brought kitty to them and within days they deemed the kitty as feral and released it back into the streets a mile away!!! Why did they not notify us so we could either take this poor cat in or find a home for it. This is totally unacceptable to me. There are no kill shelters I could of taken this poor kitty to. This kitty was most definitely not feral. I am so angry that there was no communication and as a donor they would not have the decency to work with us. I have waited to write this and I want to pull my financial support to this place but the poor pets there will suffer for it. I am going to try to talk with someone there about this and will escalate this because I have to be this poor kitty's advocate. Please when or if you have to deal with this place demand to be heard and be informed of what they may or may not do with your situation. They certainly need to do better. read more

My family owns two cats and a dog. We recently adopted our dog (this spring) after a long search, which involved the placer spca. I should add that we have a little boy as well, a preschooler. The people who handle the cat side of things are wonderful. Balanced, cautious folks who want to see everyone happy and their charges well cared for. They're amazing. The dog side: every single time we went, at least five visits in our search, some volunteer thought nothing of bringing a dog down the narrow corridors where our child was. When I would swiftly pick him up, or tell the husband to, so his face would not be right at the dog's level with no room for either to avoid each other, I would quickly get an offended "This dog is so sweet!" from the volunteer as they charged by. Honey, I don't care. She's in a shelter, probably a bit freaked out by everything, and you don't know how she is with little kids. It's not safe for anyone to risk a bite; kid gets bitten, dog gets put down, craptastic experience all around. Seriously. Have some common sense. I have seen firsthand what a dog can do to a little kid and the pain and terror that poor child must then heal from. This place is asking for trouble by allowing dogs out of the keenels while people are there; you should at least tell the folks, especially those with little kids, so proper safety precautions can be taken. I spent yesterday at Yuba AC loving on a pittie. Dogs don't scare me, but bad practices sure do! read more

I love the animals here and i hope they all get a good home ASAP!!! What i did not quite get were the people who run this this shelter. They are very officious. they make it VERY difficult to adopt animals here. You may be saying to yourself , for a good reason. Yes, of course i understand . I am 100% in favor of dog and cat adoptions from Shelters. I contribute and support their efforts and have two rescue doggies myself. What I do object to is the intense difficulty in the adoption process. I looked for a dog here(once upon a time)and gave up, not due to the lack of animals. It was due to the people who were either working here or volunteering. i decided to look at the city and county shelters. THEY really want to help you find a pet . Oh I could go on, but thats enough. wish them luck...they need to rethink the message they send out to the public. I will say however, the kennels are clean and dogs n cats are given attention and well cared for. that is always very important. but so is finding them a forever home. read more

There is a lot of things that could have been updated, replaced or renovated at this place for 4.2 million dollars. The rent here for the SPCA is $1.00 a month. Now there is the old Roseville Telephone building and 7.6 million dollars the city of Roseville incorporated into the new SPCA site. This is a not for profit charity with a very profitable thrift store funding them big time. The clincher in this deal is that this 12 million is just for phase one of the new building. The City Council is married to the SPCA and the public or voters are not involved in the in their secret affairs. read more

My husband and I Came in today to check out the animals. We met the most unprofessional and rude staff....EVER! They seemed pretty busy when we got there but we didn't expect to get treated like shit for asking where the animals were. Who knows their names but the girl with glasses acted like a total bitch when my husband asked simple questions like, "what paperwork should we fill out," and "where do we wait for someone to help us?" We waited and waited while the front desk rolled their eyes at us and hid behind their computer screens. Finally a manager noticed and helped explain the adoption process and what "animal paperwork" meant in the first place. I think his name was Nick (he was bald) but he was so patient and helpful with us! If you go here, hopefully you don't have to deal with the bitchy receptionists, hopefully Nick is working. read more

I went here for the rabies clinic they have once a month. It was well organized and the staff and volunteers were extremely friendly. When I went into the room to get my dog his rabies shot, the vet assistant was very friendly...not so much for the vet. First off, my dog is an AmStaff. He is short and stout and very barrel chested. The vet asked if I had any health concerns with him and I stated that I do not and that he is a very healthy dog. She resumed to tell me how overweight my dog is only by giving a visual exam, she did not touch nor weigh him. I presumed to tell her that my dog is not overweight and that is the way he is built. She bent down and touched him and then apologized. I don't think it was right at all to assume that my dog was overweight without giving him a proper exam. It was extremely unprofessional of her. Other than my instance with the rude vet my visit was very pleasant. read more

My two sons (11 & 8) and I went to the SPCA today. We wanted to visit with the cats and dogs and begin the adoption process if we found "the one". After being there for less than five minutes we were told not to touch the dogs three times. Both my children and myself understood this, simple don't touch the dogs or cages. As my so. Was looking a very cute American Bulldog Her was told "Move! Move! Move!" By a volunteer or employee so that he could feed the animal. My son looked at him started and said "oh I'm sorry. I didn't know I was in your way." It was so rude I was in shock how he spoke to us. Then as my other son was looking at a dog and employee was not looking, took a back step and stepped on my son. Instead of saying sorry his coworker almost shouted at my son to stay away from the cages. I asked my son in front of them if he was touching the cages or dog (I was right next to him but just to be safe) and he replied no. The lady advised that we are not be be near the cages in addition to the no touching rule, even though none of the other employees or signs said anything about that. I was looking for a family pet but after being treated so rude I would look anywhere else but this place. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I was pretty much disgusted with the staff and their customer service. We were polite, quiet and followed the rules that we were told. My sons were yelled at and stepped on and never apologized to. It was just such a disappointing visit for something we were so excited for. You read more

We came here to look for a companion for our basset hound who has been pretty lonely after our older basset passed away a few months ago. We went in to see a basset my friend had told us about & one of the volunteers told me the basset wasn't available. We found another dog we really liked so we met her & liked her. We wanted to schedule a meet & greet to make sure she would be a good fit for my basset. We had wanted to come back tomorrow but they didn't have that day, the next day the couldn't schedule it after I get off of work. They asked me could I come right back. Normally I wouldn't have but we were excited so figured why not! We met with the dog we really liked. Unfortunately, she nipped at my dog. Then one of them said hey we have a basset available today. I proceeded to tell them we were told she wasn't available, well she was. My hound loved her & she now has a new home! Yay! We couldn't be happier. read more

I wont take him back because it's not his fault in anyway but shame on this place. I went in for an ESA cat. I asked for one that would be okay with small kids ,being picked up and held. My poor guy who they called honey. 1 isn't okay with being picked up. 2. Isn't okay with loud and yes he is adjusting so I know things take time however they said he had been with kids.no his "kid" was a teen /preteen when he was saved the first time sooooo he is in fact not used to small loud kids. Also says he should be placed with school aged kids and experienced cat owners!!! We are first time cat owners and I made it clear!!!!! Only had dogs prior said that. As well as he will be my ESA I need him to like to be cuddled snuggling is no issue thank God lol but the picking up was more for me in times when needed. Look I wont take him back cause he doesn't deserve to be stuck with people who have no concern for his mental health but pretty crummy that anyone would put an animal or family in that situation or you know someone who had certain needs such as a cat that can be picked up because it was supposed to be an ESA animal not just a family pet but help me when needed( made sure to mention this was my reason as well) . I will love him from this day on no matter what but ask for the paper work from the gate only person besides a director I would trust here is Scott at the front. Other than that they should have known better I'm so happy my baby wont go back there the one good thing is he found his for ever home. Be cautious dont take word of mouth and even if you think this to not be true seriously it's about the fur babies we just live with them. ( side note I wasn't in the bonding room very long with him but he did get in my lap while anxious so how could I not love him ) he is a great boy truly and he will adjust well. . . just really bothers me how they disregarded his needs read more

After an awful experience a year ago I thought I would give this location another try. I walk in right as they open to be greeted by this woman blocking the entrance with her body who looks at me and says "can I help you?" in and off putting tone like I wasn't welcome to be there. I move around her and start heading to see the animals and she starts following me asking why I'm there? To look at animals to adopt?? Why else? Finally make it back to the kennels and start looking at the dogs when another volunteer comes up and barks at me for putting my hands in the cage when I was resting my hand against it to hold my body up to be at the same level of the dog. She talked to me like I was a five year old shoving my fingers in the dogs mouth. Then I walk to the back room and bend down to look at another dog and this man gives me the same attitude about putting my hands in the cage when I wasn't even touching it. I can't believe how rude all of these employees are. There's about 50 of them there at a time and they follow you around and berate you for breathing in the wrong direction. More animals would probably be adopted if they tried to actually make it a pleasant experience. read more

I adopted a senior kitty from the SPCA a year ago and gave been meaning to write a thank you all this time....CoCo is an amazing cat...very affectionate, vocal, cuddly.... I am not sure who rescued whom. The staff was terrific, the facilities were clean, and I was impressed. I went to the SPCA's holiday open house in December and learned all about the new facility opening next year.....what an a amazing place it will be! I adopted my dog a month ago. I am very happy with her but the first two weeks were a struggle. She had a bad episode of diarrhea that lasted two days and had severe separation anxiety. She still has some anxiety but no where near as bad as she did the first week I had her. I contacted the number listed on a business card I received from the SPCA. I was advised on the day of adoption to contact this number if I am having any behavioral issues with my dog and would receive complimentary training. I got the sense that the SPCA was providing all available resources (free training, free one time office visit, coupons, etc) so these dogs would have permanent homes and minimize the chance they would be returned to the shelter. I called the number on the business card 5 times throughout the week and left 3 voicemails. I never received a return call! I was so frustrated I tried contacting the SPCA. They too never answer their phones! I can honestly say I called 10 times, morning, midday, and afternoon and would get their voicemail. Only after leaving two voicemails did I finally receive a call back, days later. There was a point when I was so frustrated with my dog (barking hours throughout the night due to separation anxiety) that I was about to just drive back to Rosevile to bring the dog back. Had the SPCA answered their phone during business hours, I would have not had this problem. My dog is fine now and we are both attached to each other now but I felt that I had to leave this honest review. To the SPCA manager, please advise your staff to answer the phone and if they aren't able to, return the call same day or latest, next business day. read more

My experience at PSPCA was just wonderful! We were looking for an adult kitty to replace a beloved kitty who passed last August.....being seniors we thought an older adult cat would be perfect but then we found our little Snuggles or rather she found us! She's only one year but absolutely precious, sweet, snugly and just the special little baby to make our home complete! The volunteers at the shelters both in Roseville and Auburn, we also went there to see their cats as well, but we ended up at the Pet Food Express and decided on our Chipmunk aka Snuggles. Everyone was so sweet, helpful and excited for us and it added so much to our adoption experience! It took about four days for Snuggles to feel at Home and now it's as if we've had her forever! We took her to the vet hospital as recommended by PSPCA, and They were just great as well! This has been the best experience and I have been talking up the fabulous experience of adopting a shelter animal....you are all the best and Thank You for making our lives complete with Snuggles! read more

I have given monetary and wish list donations to this organization because of my tender heart and my love for animals. I was dismayed and very disappointed when I recently recommended them to a friend of mine that was looking for a kitty for her daughter. I went with them to do the adoption but the treatment they received was disgraceful. I was embarrassed for the people working there because they were unbelievably rude and disorganized. The helpers were rough in the way they handled the animals and even worse with the people that came in to adopt these helpless creatures. I will never recommend this SPCA again. I will not be giving anymore of my donations to this facility and I will not volunteer my time there as I had planned to do. Sad excuse for a SPCA!!!! Go to another SPCA to adopt! Not a pleasant experience for my friends young daughter. They did adopt a kitty from there but only because they are caring people and wanted to save an animals life not because they were helped by the people that work there. read more
