I've been here multiple times. People complain they "scalp". It's called running a business. They are always friendly and have the same or lower prices than other independent card shops for cards. If you want odd trinkets and cool items this place is for you. If your looking to get a retro game consoles and games this is for you. Only thing I would negotiate before purchase is having the option to return a vinyl. I have bought a few vinyls and some are scratched to the point it's annoying to play. Other than that GREAT FUN PLACE. I regretfully let my kids go here to buy some Pokemon cards with their own money. They were over priced (not surprised) and turns out - not in English but in Japanese (big surprise.) And guess who has the nerve to not take returns? This store. Yes, they will accept $50 from 8 and 10 year children who they know are expecting trading cards to be in English, but this store won't take returns. Cool. Go ahead and operate that way if that's how you need to be I guess. But don't think that you are going to get repeat business that way. read more

This place is a BIG NO STAR rating. As I was walking down the street today in Placerville on Main Street, I saw an event unfold in front of Placerville Trading Post. A car was going to try to park but a man was standing in the middle of the space staring off into space; no pun intend. The person tapped their horn to get his attention, at the same time a large heavy set man with a sandwich sign started yelling at them to move on. They put the window down to talk to him and the large man became agitated and rude telling them to get out of there. The couple drove off and he put his signs in the public parking space that was not designated as no parking. I noticed the couple coming back the other way and the heavy man flipped them off. Not a place I want to shop at let alone walk past the front door. He may start yelling at me for no reason. read more

My family and I were walking through downtown Placerville and happened upon this little spot. We were warmly welcomed and blown away by the amount of classic games and consoles available. In my experience, it is common for hobby shops to have less than stellar customer service but this was not the case!! I will definitely be back! read more

Went in with a friend who is a local and had a blast looking through all the retro stuff from my childhood. Left with $130 worth of hard to find Magic the Gathering cards. Definitely will be returning in October. read more

So every once in awhile when I'm in the placerville area I stop by this place. The deals are great and the guy who I assume owns the shop (big guy who sounds like Kevin from the office) is there and his service is great. He's very polite and he along with the prices are why I enjoy stopping in. Today is a much different story. Two other guys were there today and one of them rang me up and as I was about to pay with my card when he told me that they're not taking cards, cash only because they're getting a new card machine due to new systems or whatever. Initially this frustrated me because I didn't see any signs saying 'cash only'. He said he could hold it while I go to the ATM to get cash which of course lead to a conversation about the nearest ATM I could go to so I can get cash, all the while I'm thinking to myself that this is ridiculous and a major inconvenience for me. They all chip in on where my nearest bank is (I don't know placerville all that well) and I say thank you and leave, mostly with intentions not to come back. But, I did. I go get the cash and come back. I really do like this shop so I wanted to give them a chance to hopefully make me feel like my business was important to them. The other guy there that I haven't referred to yet who is bald and has a bunch of trashy looking tattoos on his head is definitely giving off some not so good vibes and has a scoffing and snotty attitude which he had the whole time but, I ignored it, though the second time I showed up it really bothered me and that's because I went out of my way to get cash to support their little shop and I didn't get a thank you or a sorry for the inconvenience man, or a we really appreciate your business and your time. I didn't get it from any of them. I barely was noticed when I walked back in the door to make my purchase. The owner/Kevin from the office guy barely squeezed in a thank you as I walked out the door. It's so frustrating and I regret doing business with you guys. I work in sales and I know good customer service and I know that people want to feel important and appreciated when spending their money and I feel like I totally wasted my time and money and gas on a couple dvds and cds so these guys can continue having an arrogant and ungrateful attitude toward their customers. So now this cool little shop I've enjoyed for a few years is permanently stained with shitty service and a crappy attitude. I've spent my last dollars at this shop and i encourage you to just go to dimple records where it's expected to receive shitty service. read more
