The quality of the furniture here is well above average. Help in the store was excellent. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

We were so disillusioned by the poor quality and high prices of places like Pottery Barn, and wondered "isn't anybody making furniture from solid wood anymore?" We're so glad we found Plain & Simple. It took a while for our dining table and chairs to arrive due to the pandemic (ordered in Sept, got them in Feb), but the craftsmanship is absolutely stunning. It wasn't cheap, yet it was much cheaper than Pottery Barn's "farmhouse table" and chairs/benches made from veneer, which every online forum said would chip within a month. The two delivery guys who assembled everything were great. We're very happy with the experience. read more

Plain and Simple Furniture is one of our go to store specially if we are in a hurry of finding an excellent and very high quality furniture.

Extremely disappointed with the customer service I have received from Plain and Simple. We ordered a table, eight chairs, and a sideboard in February 2022. We were quoted delivery windows of June for the table and chairs and July for the sideboard. June came and went with no communication from Plain and Simple. I contacted Nina and was told the pieces were still in construction and we could expect a mid-August delivery. I heard nothing again until I contacted them on August 5th and was told the table and chairs would be delivered by the end of the next week. That came and went with no communication from Plain and Simple. I contacted them via email on August 21, and as of August 25 had not received a response. So I called this morning and was told that our table and chairs are "on the truck but the driver can't get to them". When I asked for more of an explanation and when I might be able to expect them, Nina offered me the truck driver's phone number. I asked if it would be in the next week or possibly two and she said maybe. Maybe? I am of course frustrated that the furniture delivery is now almost three months past due, but that I can excuse due to Covid and supply chain issues. But to not receive any communication from Plain and Simple and have to initiate it myself every time is deeply disappointing. Being told I must contact the truck driver myself is completely inexcusable. I will never purchase another piece from Plain and Simple. read more

We just received our first order of a stunning round oak dining room table; a beautiful king size bed; a matching blanket chest; and two stunning bed side tables. We have a second order arriving in a few months. The craftsmanship is meticulous and absolute perfection. The wood used is of outstanding quality. The prices are very reasonable and actually lower than expected. The selection at Plain and Simple is fantastic and gave us endless options including custom height for the bed and footboard. This shop sells Amish-style furniture and crafts, although much of it is what I would consider basic wood furniture and not highly stylized. I first wandered in here in November looking for a rocking chair. I returned in January to shop more seriously. I really liked the design of one of the chairs, but preferred a grain and wood-stain that I saw on a different chair. The shopkeeper explained to me that different stains will vary in appearance depending on the wood; unfortunately, they did not carry anything in the combination that I wanted. However, they played around with some samples and contacted the craftsman who provides those chairs and came up with a combination of wood and stain that would turn out the way I wanted. They called me back a few days later and I told them to go ahead with the order. They had to place a special request for the chair which would take about six to eight weeks. That was great service which I really appreciated. The chair wasn't cheap, but I felt that the price was fair for a high-quality, hand-crafted item which I would expect to last for decades. One small point of frustration was the total time to deliver the chair. It ended up taking about three months, because the product from that vendor is not delivered; rather, Plain and Simple goes to pick up items whenever they want them. So I had to wait for them to have enough stock to be worth making a trip (to Ohio, I believe) and then another week to arrange the delivery. All in all, the folks were very friendly and helpful, and I was very pleased with my experience there. read more

The staff sticks with you through-out style, wood and stain selection to assure you'll receive the product you desire. My first purchase was a quarter-sawn oak lateral 2-drawer file cabinet purchased in 2017. Since discovering Plain and Simple, I have now purchased a rolling office chair, 8 dining chairs stained to match my 100 year old round oak table, a custom sized stereo cabinet, bookcase with an extra shelf, 2 end tables and a computer table. I've ordered furniture before from Amish directly in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin state but I have to say I was happy at what "Plain and Simple" Amish store had to offer. Ordered a solid oak model "Broadway Queen Size" bed in solid, real Oak wood and I was very happy and satisfied out how it turned out in the guest bedroom. They even helped me with the stain color to match a Non Amish chest of drawers made in USA I bought several years back. Prices we're a bargain too since I took advantage to buy during the after Black Friday sale called Small Business or Corporate sale which was a significant discount versus regular price since Amish furniture at a retail store can become pricey. That can get expensive but well worth it if you plan to have a home with the best furnishings. Best investment you can make with them. read more

The prices are moderate compared with other places we looked at (Toms Price for one). We ordered a hutch and 8 dining room chairs last spring. They are gorgeous, well made, and perfect. Adam and a helper delivered them and set up the hutch for us. A week later, I decided I wanted the hutch moved to the other side of the dining room. They came back and moved it at no charge. Other posts here seem to discount the complexity of the furniture from this store, but if you enjoy Amish furniture you appreciate the beauty of simplicity. It is not inexpensive furniture, but it will be exactly what you want. It will be solid wood, heirloom quality, and perfectly executed by American craftsmen. It gives me pleasure to sit at our table and know that it wasn't made by the forced labor of tiny hands on the other side of the planet.... Service is great at Plain and Simple. We had another piece of furniture that we needed to match for stain. Adam asked us to bring a drawer in and he sent that drawer with the order to the furniture makers. The table came back and matched perfectly. Also, given the holidays, I needed the order to be delivered before we left on an extended break, and while Adam said it would be a tight delivery that might not make it, he did what was needed to meet the date. We don't have enough wonderful things to say about this store. The quality of the furniture is superb, and I speak from some depth of knowledge, being the son of a (long ago) furniture store owner. The owners, Adam and Nina, couldn't be more accommodating and patient in working with us. Their associate Josh, is equally attentive and supportive. We purchased a fair number of pieces from the store in the process of furnishing a new home. Every promise that was made to us, from the delivery date to the color of the wood stain was met completely. On the day the truckload of furniture was delivered to our home, Josh and his co-workers arrived on schedule and even found the time to help us move a few pieces that needed to be relocated elsewhere in our home. This is a great furniture store. We were looking for some well made American Arts & Crafts style dining room furniture for our bungalow, and found it here. We bought a quarter sawn oak china cabinet and 8 matching chairs for less than what we would have paid for one much smaller cabinet from a large retailer. I don't think they sell from the showroom floor. Each piece is made to order and we were able to work with Adam to add some custom details to our cabinet with a choice of finishes and hardware as well. They also sell upholstery fabric, and we bought reasonably priced fabric to recover a chair. read more

I simply love this store and am a repeat customer many times over. The quality of the furniture is amazing, the pieces feel as smooth as glass and the wood is simply beautiful. I've had several pieces made to my specifications (size, color of stain, style, etc.) and have always gotten what I wanted. To date, I've purchased a fabulous dining room table (with built in hidden storage for extra leaves) and six comfortable DR chairs; a beautiful buffet and a two piece hutch (with "magical" interior lighting) for the dining room; as well as a TV/equipment stand for our huge flat screen TV, four kitchen chairs, and two large custom bookcases (8 feet tall to match the height of my woodwork). Although they have lots of samples in the store, their portfolio picture books offer MANY more options on all kinds of furniture for every room of the house. And if you want, you can even design your own (like our bookcases). When I compare the cost of their furniture to most retail stores, I feel the price is very reasonable. I found the prices below those of retail furniture stores and the quality, construction and sturdiness of the furniture so much better than brand name stores. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful with any issue or question I've had. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make a minor repair on one of my chairs that I had had for two years. We recently purchased our first truly adult piece of furniture from these wonderful folks at Plain and Simple. It is a buffet with a mirror and a small custom stained glass door in the center that was only $60 extra. The quality of this piece is phenomenal and we are thrilled with how it came out. You can google and some of these items cheaper from internet-direct amish furniture suppliers but you can't get the customization and service that this business excels at. They delivered the piece in the timeline they initially stated. We probably would not have been able to afford this piece without the 20% off sale around the Custer Street Fair so I was happy to receive their email about the sale. For years I've been pressing my nose against the window at Plain and Simple, lusting after the beautiful furniture. Over the past year, I decided that after almost 15 years of being an entrepreneur, I would invest in a desk. I looked at Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, etc., etc., but then I saw the most beautiful desk in the world at Plain and Simple and the deal was done. It was less expensive than a "comparable" desk at Pottery Barn--and I saw "comparable" because although the desks have similar features and are about the same size, nothing compares to the desk I have, crafted from solid oak. It was made to my specifications and assembled completely in my home office. This desk lifts my spirits when I come into my office to work. It's a beautiful piece of furniture but more than that it has become a positive influence. I also bought a long storage bench so I can stack my piles of magazines and other things that I should move along more quickly. But my desk--ah, my desk! totally amazing. read more

I ordered a bed headboard and footboard from P&S several months ago. Because they are built to order, I had to wait for it to be constructed, the the wait was worth it. I had ordered a headboard that has storage spaces that are covered by sliding wood doors. The bed was delivered and assembled by the seller in a short while. They removed the old steel bed frame. The first thing I noticed was that this bed is much sturdier than the steel bed frame Ir replaced! Next, I gave the fit and finish a careful inspection - the piece was so fresh that there was still a wonderful light varnish smell that will wear off (I like it). Everything about the bed speaks quality and careful construction. The sliding doors fit perfectly, and everything was properly sanded and smooth. This piece has zero defects! When I need more pieces, I will shop first at Plain and Simple. (They also helped me with the proper height dimensioning of the headboard, and they did it perfectly. read more

We had a FANTASTIC experience with this store!! The girls that work there were so patient and answered all of our questions. We were allowed to bring in our own hardware for the custom dresser and sofa table we bought. The furniture is absolutely stunning. We thought the prices were very fair. It's the old saying"You get what you pay for". You just can't find good solid furniture anymore so we were so happy to come across this store in an ad in a Chicago magazine. Besides the beautiful furniture, Al and Victor who delivered the furniture were awesome. They covered the newel post, had me take a picture and wreath off the wall so they didn't bump it and explained how the drawers went in and out etc. I just can't say enough about this store and staff. I bought a desk from Plain and Simple and within 2 months of the delivery a seam between to boards in the desk top separated causing an uneven surface. I called for assistance and was told the small weak air flow of heat from a 4 inch by 4 inch vent opening that is approximately three feet from the desk was the cause even though there was a large plant next to the desk blocking direct contact and, the split in the desk top was at the front of the desk not the mid/back sections which would be receiving the air flow most directly. Also, I had been away from home during for several weeks so quite literally the desk was exposed to warmth (65 degrees) for maybe a month. I was told I would have to pay $200.00 to have the desk repaired. A worker came to my home and tried to remove the top but was not successful. He checked the humidity and found that it was within the proper range to maintain the wood. He suggested a different desk top, a thicker one but the total additional cost would be about $400.00. Given that to repair the desk I was already looking at paying an additional $200.00 I opted for the thicker desk top but did not realize that the frame was also going to be different so essentially everything changed, and no I did not receive pictures of what the new desk would look like. If they were sent they were never received. The totally resolve took over 3 months...frustrating. I had a carpenter friend look at the original desk before it was removed and he confirmed the flaw had nothing to do with heat or lack of humidity (which was in the acceptable range when checked) but the furniture makers error. Given my experience, and the cost, I would never buy anything from Plain and Simple again - they do not guarantee their products the way they should. I, the buyer was blamed, without question and the furniture maker was without fault even though I have wood furniture all over my home, including an amish kitchen table next to a large heater in the kitchen and this kind of splitting has never occurred. The staff at Plain and Simple are friendly and responsive but in my experience the furniture maker was never questioned and, in the end there was going to be a significant cost no matter what choice I made. read more
