I can honestly say that I have never left PJ's emptyhanded or wishing they had more stuff. The quality and condition of the items are always spot-on and they are generally displayed in a way that makes them attractive and easy to look through. Jane and co. are helpful and nice, even when I ask a completely silly, "what does this teapot do?" kind of question. One of the best consignment shops I go to. Every time I drive by I can't help but want to make a quick stop into Jane's. Her eye for the shabby chic is impeccable and there's always something for everyone. I love buying unique little kitchen items and sometimes I find cute handmade or unusual greeting cards. Her rugs and her drapery in the back room are carefully selected for quality. Great frames and glassware. Her lamps and her chandeliers are phenomenal and reasonably priced. I love the occasional eye catching furnishings (some of the wood end tables and dressers are amazing)! The art is lovely too! The women and friends she has working for her are very nice and, despite being off the busy Boyes highway, it's a pretty easy in and out even if you have to park in the parking lot and walk across the little side street. Over the years I have shopped at Plain Jane's and furnished my house with many terrific finds. Years later I made big life changes and got rid of nearly everything, much of it here. In a load of goods I took in was a shoebox full of old "silverplate" utensils. Not having used them for years I'd forgotten they were actually sterling silver. Jane could have easily sold them for what they are - silver - and not told me otherwise, but when I went to collect payments from her I was delighted to learn I'd been mistaken. We both made out on that deal! I appreciate Jane's honesty. She could have made a killing on that one, but she did what a less-scrupulous person may not have done. Great deals keep me coming back to Plain Jane's, and now I go in with an even greater joy and respect, knowing I will have a fun time looking around even if I am not buying. Shop here! this is a great thrift/consignment store! Their prices are very reasonable and they have a great selection of furniture, glassware, rugs and misc. fun items. Some Plain Jane advice: Do a walk through first so you can get all the "oh muh GUHS" out of the way because there is crazy stuff here. After you get the gawking out of your system, roll up your sleeves and jump right in - move stuff around and push crap out of the way. I promise you will find treasures galore. My skeptical friend rolled her eyes at me when we walked in and saw pair of Raggedy Ann and Andy pictures, but jumped for joy when she discovered a butter dish she had been wanting for months. Ahem - just to clarify, Plain Jane's was my idea... so I kind of saved the day. I found a great occasional table, solid wood, for $68. There were a few marks on it but overall in excellent shape and I have the perfect place to put it in our house. read more

We had some almost new items (6 dining room chairs) as well as some older items. We are 2 blocks away and they charged us $20 to pick them up, which, at the time we were OK with. They told us they would keep on sale for 90 days, and if they didn't sell, they would donate to charity. We never heard back. No idea if they sold our merchandise and never told us, never found out if they donated. Once they have your stuff, you never hear back. A little suspisious they sold the stuff and keep the cash. I wouldn't use them again. Also, think the paint job is horrible. I was hoping for more upscale on Hwy 12, not clowntown. read more

Such a great find in Sonoma! On our way up Hwy 12 to go wine tasting, and passed this brightly painted store, had to turn around and check it out. Lots of wonderful gently-used items - home, kitchen, garden..and I finally found the perfect clock I'd been searching for! The salespeople were very nice and helpful, really know the inventory. OK, So here is....Plain Janes is freakin awesome. PERIOD! But shhhhhh, its my little secret. If you're like me you can always find something cool inside for the home! I have a knack for finding treasure for sure! They're always getting new cool consignments. The prices are fair and sometimes outright awesome! They also, lower prices fro things that sit too long, so if your lucky you can find something that you love that hasn't been swooped up yet and on sale! And in my honest opinion I find the ladies are helpful and kind to me when I stop by. The best piece so far I bought was this really rare antique apothecary cabinet from the victorian era. IT IS EPIC! I store all my oils and perfumery in it! You just never know what comes in! I have found many gifts in there over the years too. You have to take some time to shift thru the items and look at EVERYTHING, so you don't miss something good because there is a ton to look at... Oh and a "Side Note"...I noticed there are 2 negative reviews on the store for the "paint" on the outside of the building (yes the paint) that has NOTHING to do with them as a consignment store itself. Not good karma to go and write nonsense about a local small business in a small town, based off a paint job on the outer building!? I mean really... Come oooon people. Don't bring your Sonoma Valley political nonsense onto Yelp! This is why I have a love/hate for yelp. People come on here with inadequate, nonsense reviews that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual business itself! Maybe if they weren't polite to you or maybe the products were in bad display or shape or the pricing you don't agree with, so on. But PAINT?? I personally don't mind the colorful paint anyway, because that's not what I am going there for! I mean do you normally go shopping for vintage/used items on the facts of the look of the outer building??? They obviously don't get out much because there is much worse and less "charming" buildings in Sonoma County with great shops inside! Please don't listen to that nonsense. Have they gone to a flew market, I cant imagine what they think about a flea market! I advise you go in and check it out. Plan Jane's is a second hand store located next to La Michocana ice cream on Hwy 12. The store gets new items often, which I like, and is pretty much 1 big room to browse through. They do not accept donations. The store always, always, has help on hand and they are very nice and easy to talk to. The majority of items I've seen have been home and garden furnishings and furniture pieces as opposed to household kitchen items and clothing. Some items need small touches to be brought back to life and are priced well. Not too many shabby items (ugly ducklings so to speak) that need fixing. If your looking for that type of item there are a few other second hand shops were you may be in luck. Heres the weird thing....it has a "parking lot" with 1 space. Once you get in it though youre pretty much driving off a curb to get out. That's my biggest pet peeve about this location. They did not figure out parking and don't seem to be interested in doing so anytime soon. Also not to wild about the eye popping paint job they just completed. I have only walked out of this place once without buying anything and I have been coming here once a week for four months. Needless to say a great place! I usually go in there just looking and find so many great things. Some of the ladies there are very nice and funny. Whenever my husband and I are at the store and I say I need a pitcher or a picture for a wall he now says just go to Plain Jane's. Mostly everything is reasonably priced, and sometimes when we find something over priced we will try and talk them down. I believe they mark there products down after it has been there for two months. I love coming here, it's like a treasure hunt! read more

They have loads of bargains so I stop by every time I am in Sonoma. It's better quality than most thrift shops, with good prices, and a wonderful variety of things I didn't know I was looking for. A little money in my pocket is nice, so I bought 5 boxes of household odds and ends ( you need an appointment), some of this and that, and they sold most of it. They take 50%, which is fair. as you can tell by the five stars, I like this place. read more

Love love love this store! I get a little rush when I walk in because of the possibility of what I might find. I don't like shopping - EXCEPT at places like Plain Jane's - so many awesome finds, and totally reasonable prices. I am trying them with some consignments now, great way to get rid of things you no longer want/need. I have purchased a few things from this store that were lovely. But since the store front has been painted in odd clashy colors, I honestly can't make myself walk inside anymore - the whole look of the store scares me away. The real sadness though... I can't really absorb what's actually being displayed outside anymore - there's too much going on - it's a visual "fight" since the walls are just THAT busy, so I look away now. Sad for the store, since I represent a group of customers who really did drive by every day and glance over- always on the look-out for interesting things to purchase. A small space in an odd location packed with an assortment of furniture and knick knacks for the home. I NEVER walk out of this place without something. The items are moderately priced and their split is competitive. On a recent trip I purchased a pre-lit faux topiary planter, which normally retails for close to $100 in PB or Ballard. I stole it for $20.00. They also price their throw pillows very low....so forget about Ross/Marshalls, just hit "Jane's" for a fraction of the cost. The furniture seems to be overpriced, but then again I'm no fine furniture/antique expert...I guess I feel that Craiglist is the very best place to find second hand pieces at a great price. Jane can be a bit abrasive, but she has two sisters (I have no clue if they're her sisters) who work there that are FABULOUS and fun. They always point out great new stuff and give advice and creative ideas. This is my one-stop shopping point to spruce up a room. Plain Jane's is a fun place to walk in and usually find something (even if you aren't looking to buy anything) I used to bring all my visitors as one of our stops when showing them the town. After a few commented on the unfriendly feeling they had, I stopped. The staff rarely greets you. Even Jane herself will ignore you when you are the only person in the store. A smile at customers or greeting would probably have gotten them a better rating and more business from me. read more
