Small selection of jewelry, fair selection of clothing and also some home decoration or other home goods. Everything looked clean and the prices seemed fair to me. Strike two. I walked in, observed the prices. The only sale that day was on Christmas ornaments, left outside in the rain, and some slightly damp books on a table outside near the ornaments. I saw an OXO 2 in 1 opener near the glass cabinet for 8.00. I asked the man at the counter if there were any other sales in the store, and mentioned that I would buy it for 5.00. Without providing any eye contact, he said that there were no other sales other than the goods outside and that he cannot alter any prices whatsoever. He repeats the second part twice. I had the impression he did not want to carry the conversation any further. I just told him thanks, and sorry that I disturbed him and his time. I moved on. Love the location, easy, peasy in Sonoma Plaza. Love what you purchase supports such great causes. Place is pretty packed with nice finds. Prices a wee bit rich for my blood, but natch, I had to look. I will pop in again next time I'm in Sonoma Square. If you are in the area, take a few minutes or an hour to see all the great finds. On Saturday my boyfriend and I were walking around the historic plaza and found this shop. The name alone brought me in, how cute is the "Church Mouse?!" I was browsing along and found a scarf and decided to try it on and it was the warmest/coziest scarf I have ever felt. I wrapped it around my boyfriend's neck and it looked just as amazing on him, just so handsome, that's it I had to buy it! A bargain for under $3 and helped keep me nice and toasty as it was getting cooler in the plaza!! I would recommend this location and hope to check out their first location as well, this location opened in 1979 and helps fund catholic students in Sonoma county. I am only knocking off a star for a cute purse I wanted to purchase that unfortunately was marked a few times inside with a purple marker. Walked by while strolling the square, and decided to pop in. This is define more curated thrift shop than your traditional Goodwill, with lots of nicer looking pieces of dish ware, clothing, and the like. Towards the back there's more clothes and shoes (mid tier pricing, I would say), and I found a pair of Giorgio Armani heels! Too small though, whoever gets them is lucky. I ended up getting three books- their paperbacks are 50 cents each! They were in great condition as well. Overall I don't think this shop is for you if you're looking for an amazing bargain, but if you're not up for scouring the racks, then this shop is definitely for you. read more

Super clean and organized. Drove a very long way to visit this particular this store. Used to frequent often when lived in the area. Realized I was overcharged on receipt. There's nothing on the receipt stating sales are final or anything mind you. An Item was rang up for $12.95 on a $2.95 item. returned the following day, not wanting cash but to apply toward the purchase I was making. (Katrina??), tall, slim, young girl argued with me, wanting me to bring in my $94 Worth of items back into the store to go thru. I offered her to come to the trunk. Been coming here for years, really great curated items. The last 3x I've been in here since October to support all the small businesses in Sonoma Plaza, the employees behind the counter (and another walking around), only has a face shield on with no masks! I was shocked! They require patrons to come in wearing masks which is great, but they aren't doing their part! Face shields with no masks are useless. Protecting each other goes both ways to stop transmissions - especially during this latest surge and people are already nervous being around other ppl indoors. Face shields with NO masks don't protect others.. I hope they understand this...especially in an indoor environment. I won't be going back for a long long time - until we all reach herd immunity with the new vaccines. read more

There are two church mouse thrift shops in Sonoma, this location and another location on Highway 12. It seems that all the donations go to the other location however everything nice is taken to this location, which is unfortunate. The other location has semi- standard pricing, and this one does not. This location is highly overpriced. I saw multiple items today that I priced checked, and they are being sold for nearly the same price as a brand new item, however, you're paying for a used item that was donated to the shop for free- for example a pair of Abercrombie and Fitch high rise 90s jeans That are about $80 new however have been on sale for months for $25-$40 online yet are in the shop worn with obvious signs of wear and tear and priced at $50. A cheap shirt from Amazon is priced over $10. A cheap shirt with Kirkland signature brand tag has signs of wear and is priced over $10. a dress from target (universal thread brand) with tag stating $25 is priced at $20, and it's not this year's style or still being sold in store. It seems this is just a shop for rich people go to spend money at and feel good about themselves, not minding the high prices, figuring that they are donating to poor people somewhere. Meanwhile, the other shop that is actually affordable gets the clothes that are very well worn and torn and nasty. Prices are higher than consignment shop prices here and the whole thing is pretty despicable. read more

Went to donate some things and the attendant said "oh we don't need frames right now " it was an antique frame worth over 200.00, but the man was no where near knowledgeable enough to know that. The ladies who run this store clearly love what they do. The store is so nicely arranged that you almost forget you're in a thrift shop. The items are well-organized and displayed as if they were first-run retail. I scored a couple of Creativity for Kids sets that were 95% complete for just a few dollars apiece. These kits usually retail for $16 to $25 each. DVDs for kids were under a dollar so I grabbed a few of those as well. The toys and books were all in good condition, so it's a safe bet they carefully weed out the junk so that YOU don't have to. One of the nicest thrift shops I've even been to. Found some awesome things - bracelet with elephant charms for 25 cents, lock necklace for a dollar, the uncorrected proof of a Ray Bradbury book for two dollars and a saxophone pin for a dollar (this is a nerdy yet necessary item, as I play saxophone and tend to collect kitchsy related stuff). I had a great time looking through here, and there were some cool clothes and shoes, tons of costume jewelry (and costumes) and miscellaneous odds and ends. This is the best of the 3 Church Mouse outlets in the Sonoma Valley. Better clothes selection. Better quality old housewares. Bambi has purchased crystal port glasses, I've found brand Italian made sport shirts & Hawaiian made garish button downs. Prices are always reasonable. A fun little diversion shop when you're cruisin' the Sonoma central plaza. Update January 2015: above written 6 years ago. I've been here many times since then. I'm a local. Me thinks the shop has gotten more cluttered, has poorer quality merchandise, there's more junk. I was walking around the square when I popped in to see if they still had an item that I had seen before and had decided to purchase if it was still there. Upon entering I noticed that the two sales associates behind the counter were deep into a conversation and walked around to where the item was. Since it was hanging above the counter I didn't have to walk far. So I then stood at the counter and waited for one of the sales associates to notice me and give assistance. Needless to say they didn't stop their conversation anytime soon to help me. I just stood there. The rudest thing ever. read more

Rude, Rude, Rude,. The two employees that were working on February 12th 2021 a man and a woman couldn't even bother to greet us with a good morning or even a hello. We were the first two people there on that day and when the man unlocked the door ( late ) he stated as soon as we set this rack of clothes outside and bring a table out here, you can go in. Okay, we weren't in a hurry or anything. Once inside we browsed around without them asking " if you need help or see something you're interested in let ( us ) me know. The whole 25 minutes we were in the store all they did was gossip about past customers & employees. Never once were we aknowledged. Money was no object for either of us but after the woefully rude actions of the two employees neither one of us wanted to give our money to an establishment with no regards to their customers. read more

On my way to Sonoma this morning I remembered I needed a white linen table cloth for an event later in the week. Luckily I also remembered the Church Mouse right on the plaza, stopped in and had 15 white tablecloths to choose from as well as a variety of other table linens. Right on Church Mouse!!! So I got 2 and the total came to $43 including tax. Not rock bottom Thrift Store prices, but this CM location is really more like an antique/vintage store. Everything is clean and tidy. Tons of dishware and collectibles, costumes, wedding dresses, clothes, fancy ribbons, wall art....groovy stuff. Brand new bandanas in every color for some unknown reason. I'm so sad to write this review about a store I used to love so much. I've shopped here over the past 5 years frequently and have watched the prices go up and up and up. This is no longer a thrift store. Today I found a peacoat that I really liked, which was not a name brand, and was listed NEW on eBay with free shipping for $40. Church Mouse's USED exact jacket was $75. I brought it to the managers attention very politely "love your store, shop here a lot, any way you could do a better price on this, it's actually listed online NEW for less." I also had a hat and scarf in hand ready to buy all three. Her response was short and firm. "This is in season and I know what I can get for it." read more

This place must consider itself a boutique because the prices are extremely high. Items are marked as if in full retail discount. I think the owners must have forgotten that these items have been "donated" and therefore they should take that into consideration when pricing the items. There are a lot of cute gift shops around the Sonoma Plaza, but only the Church Mouse was full of Holiday Shoppers when Gayle and I stopped in last Weekend. It was all very overwhelming (in terms of people and stuff density), and despite a robust selection of quality this and that, we made haste and moved on after a short time. But who can blame folks in this economy, even in the Wine Country. All you here need is good maneuverability, tight elbows, and an eye for good value treasure vs. trash. read more

There are a few Church Mouse Thrift Shops scattered around the Sonoma area. I could probably do some research and find out how many, but that would involve effort, and I am tired. I went to two of them with Husband H. on our vacation. We live for thrifting, so going to many, many thrift shops in one day is really sexy for us. Church Mouse is clean and pretty well organized. It's obvious that all the goods go to a central location for sorting, and then the best stuff goes to the shop near the Mission, and the not-the-best stuff goes to the one near the Fairmont. I got fooled, because we went to the cheaper one first, and I got used to those prices. Then we went to the "fancier" one and, with those lower prices already in my head, and began wildly grabbing things, only to realize that the Ralph Lauren cashmere sweater I thought I was going to get a steal on was $50. That's no steal, for me anyway. I didn't buy anything at either shop. Husband H. got some neat old kids books. read more

We still treasure Beardog, a wonderfully cuddly stuffed animal we scored here during a past Black Friday sale. Do not come here if you value manners and respect. I came here last month looking for Christmas village houses and they had a good stock. I found a couple that I was hoping to take a look at but I didn't want to just take it upon myself to take them out of their styrofoam and boxes. I took it up to the counter, patiently waited for the man and woman that were working to end their conversation, and politely asked if he would be able to let me see the house unboxed. He snidely said, "I'm not going to take it out, you can but your going to have to figure out how to get it back in there if you don't buy it." I was honestly just shocked about how rude that was. I was trying to be respectful by not opening something up without their permission and that's the response I get? I left immediately. Definitely not going to be giving someone like that my business, then, or ever. I do not recommend this place at all and I will never be back. read more

OMG, I love this place soooo much. It's a veritable treasure trove and cave filled with unexpected finds. Everything from kitchen odds and ends, to beautiful gold and green glass goblets and matching dinnerware, and of course all manners of clothing, e.g. straight up costumes to everyday denim and jean jackets and Chico's vintage vests. In the back of the shop, there's tons of shoes and western boots, to records and books. Loads and loads of women's wear, everything you can imagine, much of it vintage. I coaxed and cajoled and persuaded and begged ... my husband to get a linen shirt he had been eyeing--an olive button down in beautiful condition, draping gorgeously. Though I didn't get anything, the sheer joy of browsing. It's uplauded Goodwill of sorts, and as we were checking out, the ladies told us that it's a store supporting and funded by Catholic charities. Everyone there super friendly and eager to help, most of them older. As you might guess, the prices can't be beat. read more

Decent shop but you pay tourist prices. If you're a local there are other thrift shops for you, not saying this is a bad location though! I found a very nice Nike track jacket for 13 dollars. Some of the prices are very steep and the store will get VERY picked over, get there early if you want the good finds. The parking is all around the square which, in my opinion, is a pain in the neck but it's that way for all the shops in the square. I'll be back to hunt some more of course. read more

I have never been to a nicer thrift store! Not that it's posh -- but it is, as much as is possible, laid out like a nice little store. For instance, greeting cards are on greeting card racks, sunglasses are on a sunglass rack with a mirror... you get the feeling that the volunteers there really go the extra mile to make the place special. And of course, it's too their advantage, as it makes shopping easier and less frustrating. You don't get that overwhelmed feeling that there's just too much junk and not enough space. Also, it doesn't have that grimy feel to it... I like grimy thrift stores, too! It's just nice to have a break! :) Clothing is a bit pricey, but the quality of the merchandise is good -- like at a consignment shop. Since it's small, the stuff (besides clothing) they specialize in tends to be small: lots of crystal and china. For instance, I was looking for one of those plug-in tea kettles where you push a button and the water boils. They don't have that kind of thing there -- nor do they have tvs or chairs, etc. Another plus: very well-laid out book section, with nice-quality books! Plus, the location is lovely. Downtown Sonoma is delightful. (One of my other favorite Sonoma haunts is Barking Dog Roasters, also on Napa, in a shopping center that includes a Whole Earth grocery store.) Of the three Church Mouse thrift stores in Sonoma, this one is the cleanest, and most expensive. I love the kitchen section -- they always have a lot of cute vintage plates, teacups, etc. Be careful not to get carried away though -- I didn't check the prices once, and ended up paying more than I would have liked for a bunch of vintage porcelain plates (but hey, one was Limoges and one was Wedgewood, both from the 1800s, sos till a good deal). They also have a lot of vintage linens, quality clothing, costumes, and jewelry. It is much cleaner than most thrift stores, and the ladies who work there are always helpful and friendly. The properties further North are cheaper. The one in Boyes Hot Springs tends tends to have more furniture (in the front half, separate entrance), bedding, and kitchen wares and the third property (off Hwy 12) is less clean, but also the cheapest. read more

This location has so many items AND they're well organized too. Since it's in the middle of happenin' Sonoma, it tends to be pretty busy. pretty descent for a thrift store. I was a little disappointed in the clothing section as everything was just thrown onto racks and not organized by size, color or anything. I was a little tough going thru every garment on the rack to find that nothing was in my size. There are plenty of clothing options, it just takes FOREVER to find anything!!! The store in general is messy, but if you have the time to look thru everything, then perhaps you'll give this store more stars then I did!!! read more

After wandering the square around Sonoma Plaza, I ran into Church Mouse. How could i say no to a thrift store!? I'm pretty thrifty, if I do say so myself.... I wasn't looking for clothes. The vintage jewelry was nice, but didn't work out for me, either. But books! I did find 2 books at this joint for about 1dollah 50 each. Cheers to thrift shops! I havent been over here lately, trying to cut down on a excess of STUFF in our lives. When you shop at thrift stores you can accumulate much misc. STUFF quickly, as it is so cheap! But, if STUFF is what you need than the Church Mouse is a great place to stop and find it. I like this location very much and also the one thats kinda going out of town on Hwy12. Sonoma used to have a nice GoodWill and Salvation Army but they are both gone now :( read more
