I think this probably started as a supermarket as the big open space is laid out with lots of treadmills and fitness equipment. I had no problem checking in with my black card membership, stowing my stuff in a locker and then spending some time stretching before doing thirty minutes on the circuit. Shower area was not very well lit and there's no shelf in the shower. I don't like putting my stuff on the floor. An improvement that needs to be made. I've been going to this gym for a little over a year. I ~think~ they have changed management recently because I've seen a lot of changes (good changes). A few months ago I walked up to the desk and asked if the toilet paper could be restocked in the girls bathroom, he scolded and said "I can't go in there because I'm a dude, we're all dudes" and proceeded to walk away. Every time I asked for spray or paper towels they would say they're "busy". Recently they have always had stocked toilet papers, and spray/paper towels at the cleaning stations. I wish they oiled the machines more frequently; however, all the staff there now is nice and always say hi/bye. read more

I've been going to the Westvale location for several years. Recently the get a lot of new equipment and they took away the 30 minute workout area out and put more free weights. And removed most of the stationary bike with the back on them. Replace them with hard plastic ones. Try riding that for over 30 minutes especially with spinal problems. I do not do free weights. They should consider bringing back some of the equipment that was remove. For now I will be going to a different location that has the old equipment. First I will say the employees are NOT the issue!! The problem is this location is just neglected! It's old and in need of a major renovation. I travel a lot and have visited many Planet fitness locations around the country and can say that this one is probably the worst one I have been to. There is a disgusting leak coming from a ceiling pipe or maybe it's the roof leak, which has had a bucket on the floor to catch the drip for over a year (could be longer but I only started visiting this location about a year ago) and the place just looks dirty. The worst problem is the ventilation! You might as well workout outside as the a/c basically cannot keep up or is just outright broken, causing this place to be a sauna! I looked at the thermostat the other day and temp in club was 83 degrees so you basically start sweating as soon as you walk in! There are broken paper towel dispensers that do not dispense the paper towels, and as one other reviewer stared there are zero shelves in showers. Look I am currently in ILLINOIS and we visited the pf down street and OMG what a difference; ice cold a/c, super clean, huge fans circulating the cool air, updated showers with shelves, and they do not use paper towel dispensers, they have the whole roll sitting on top of sanitation stations so you just unroll what you need! This is what I am used to seeing outside of central NY!! The other locations in Syracuse aren't much better BUT ATLEAST they have better a/c and ventilation than the camillus/westvale location! Basically all the pf clubs in central NY need renovations because you see what you have been missing when you travel to other states BUT this location is the worst and needs attention immediately! I have brought this up to management and was told it has to do with something about "each location has different owners" or something to that effect! Well whoever owns this location should be stripped of their license as it's clear they are hoarding all the money and NOT reinvesting in location! We are thinking about canceling our memberships and going to crunch because my son goes there with a friend and says it's soo much nicer with zero issues that I have mentioned in this post! If you haven't visited a pf in another state you probably have no idea how bad this location really is, but I do and if the owners are refusing to change this and actually invest in the location then they should not be allowed to be a part of the pf chain as this reflects badly on the brand!! read more

Always so hot gross and sticky in here. Worst ventilation of any gym I've ever been at. As I was leaving and buying my daily muscle milk. I brought up how hot it was in the gym. Both employees agreed with me. One actually spoke up and said "yea, it's always like this in here. Right now it's 78 degrees" We chatted about how horrible the air conditioning and ventilation is. The other employee said "yea, I've had members ask me why the air conditioning isn't working all the time". The drop down ceiling tiles are actually covered in yellow water stains from all the moisture and sticky humidity. Take a look if you go to this location and see it for yourself. Sadly, I posted a review in 2018 about the temperature issues in this gym. It is now 2021 and corporate hasn't addressed the issue or even cared to do anything about it. 78 degrees while trying to do cardio on an elliptical is torture. May as well be running outside where it's almost the same temperature. No wonder I break out in a heat rash every time I workout there. read more

This location is one of the larger ones in the area, and thus, has a higher quantity of equipment than some other locations. It's usually pretty easy to find whatever machine you're looking to use, as there's typically a good amount of empty ones. They are very difficult to quit. I cancelled due to the distance I am now from the gym. I had been there for over a year. They still charged my account after I cancelled. Coming from a big city with stylish gyms to Syracuse can be a big disappointment. You're not going to find anything with towel service, DJs, celebrity trainers, or a hot young clientele. But you can still get a good workout in a good environment. After being grossed out by the Gold's in Liverpool, and a smaller local athletic club, I decided to give PF a try. The gym was VERY clean and well-maintained. All the equipment was in good working order, and the price is exceedingly reasonable. PF does lack in some things besides the "fancy" touches I'd become accustomed to (and, for $10 a month, I don't miss too much) - mainly free-weights. Almost all of the weight-training is limited to machines. They do have multiples of almost every machine, but I know some people don't find them to be sufficient. They also don't have any bosu or ab balls for stretching, balance, and isometric exercises. The showers are pretty small, limited, and don't always drain terribly well -- wear sandals. But again -- how much can I complain? It was $10/month, everything works, it's clean, and it's open 24 hours! That's better than I can say for any other place I saw in the Syracuse area. Okay, I have one more complaint: Fox News on the TVs? Really? Do we ALL have to suffer through that? Ah well... it *is* upstate... read more

So I gave Planet Fitness a four. I can explain. I've been looking at Syracuse with bright eyes lately and it's nice to have the convenience of an inexpensive fitness center near a great shopping location. What a lot of us seem to get confused at that Planet Fitness is not a crossfit box, a Hercules or a MMA gym. It's a Fitness Center. Now that we've got that squared away: it's a four. You can go at ANYTIME. take it from a gym-head. I can improvise exercises on the smith machine and just feel relieved that my little city will be there for me to let off steam at 1 a.m., feel cardio-ready healthy at 5 a.m. or grab a pal at no cost (black card members) and gym it out in the corner. Of all the PF's Camillus is the biggest (I feel it's a close call against Bridge Street), the cleanest and has the most engaging front desk and members. I can walk up to someone and know I won't end up as the girl in the vine who didn't know what she was doing. They also know my name, say goodnight and encourage me each time I come in. This Planet Fitness has improved when it comes to management & staff since I joined. There were so many things broken that the old manager Casey never took care of that this new one got right on. Only complaints are no pool (but that's a general thing for PF that this location can't change) & wouldn't mind other more updates equipment. read more

I work out here 3-4 times a week and have been coming for about a year or so, maybe longer. 2 things... 1) Short, bald, black guy... fix your attitude, you're rude. Life ain't so bad. I would have given a 5 star but there is a giant problem. We were told that the 15-18 summer program was able to be done at any Planet Fitness. So we signed up our 16 year old as we were in CNY for he month of June. We returned home to Tennessee, went to The tullahoma PF and it was not honored. It's a good place to work out in. Cardio machines there is always one open. The weight machines are always open you get a good work out with the machines. The free weights are always there there's not always a spot but you can always go somewhere else and use them. The squat and bench press machines are always busy so you're gonna have to time it right to use them. The staff is super nice but just watch out for Jimmy because he'll talk you off the whole time if you don't say anything. read more

this gym does not care about their members who are hurting during this time of need because of covid 19. before covid19 i had the ability to afford the gym now i don't and i have expressed my inability to afford the gym with my current financial situation. yet they cont. to charge my account which makes it over draft every time. they dont care they only talk about contract , which i sign before covid 19 and with the income to afford it but all they tell me is they can not process refunds or cancel my account without the cancelation fee which is also something i don't have. they freezed my account but thats only for 3 month ill have to still find a way to pay later on.i want the franchisees number. read more

For an affordable gym, I really loved this place. Wide open space with good lighting, clean machines (you can see employees and members cleaning the machines regularly), friendly staff, and a good selection of TV channels to watch while working out. I've been to other Planet Fitness franchises across the US, and this was the best maintained one that I have been to. The only downside is that the plumbing in the bathroom frequently had problems, but then just use another toilet and you're fine. For $10 a month that's not going to bother me too much. Overall, this is a really nice gym for the price and I felt very comfortable working out there. read more
