I've been a member of PF for 8 years or so and I would say my experience has been mostly good and I have enjoyed the flexibility of going to different PF locations as needed. The Dedham PF has been my "go to" gym the last 3 years and I'm finding myself disappointed with the equipment maintenance. The (2) rowing machines have not worked properly since at least September of 2024. The assisted pull up/dip machine has been out of service for at least 3 months as have (2) treadmills. Today there were (6) treadmills that were not functional and displayed error messages (I'm assuming these will be quick fixes). I reported the broken rowing machines a few times last year but that fell on deaf ears. I really enjoy the convenience of going to the Dedham PF in the early morning hours before work but in all honesty there are other options if you folks can't get your arms wrapped around this. read more

Stereotypical gym with disgusting bathrooms broken equipment and doesn't allow you to change your membership

It's a chain, and the operators of this location don't care. Just sell the membership. My issue is not with the facilities for the most part. They are pretty decent. I would say they need to put another countdown clock in the other room, as well as the other side (right side) of the main floor. Also, the row behind where the smith/squat racks are is useless. They could put another smith/racks row there, since they are always being used/hogged. The 30 minute workout area is useless and barely used. Maybe replace that with more smith/squat racks there. Also, remove one strip of eliptical machines, they are not used that much. Put more treadmills there. The biggest complaint is actually the members. Not all, just the ridiculous ones. Its common for morons to bring in a portable bluetooth speaker and BLAST their music. So everyone has to listen to their music? Should we all bring our own portable bluetooth speakers? Another issue, is the friggin people with their tripods and filming. Why are people allowed to bring TRIPODS onto the the floor? That's insane. The filming is silly. Should we ALL film while working out? So annoying. The staff don't say ANYTHING about either of this, the portable speakers and the tripods/filming. The idiot response from 'Customer Service'..."Hi Friend, we only want to provide you with a stellar customer experience at our Planet! We'd appreciate it if you could reach out to our management team so your concerns can be addressed accordingly. Thank you!" How about you do YOUR job and reach out to your franchisee? read more

This place is very convenient location but best in a day that's not crowded. It tends to get too overcrowded where u need to wait for machines or find a place to stretch, but now I just go when it's less crowded or go to the Norwood location. read more

nice staff, but I found the options for seniors limited. Weight machine increments were too high for me. To avoid injury I prefer machines that go up by 1 or 2 lbs at a time. Their lowest increment was 5. Disappointed as I wanted to join. read more

March 2023: 4.4: I would recommend this fitness facility today. I discovered that this location looks pretty nice inside, it's functional, and spacious. It's a suitable facility for your membership dollars. LoL I was impressed with the available space for the fitness center specific areas. I really believe this location would replace the big brand name fitness facilities. I believe this location could outperform as well. I searched for this location as a result of an early afternoon trip to the nearby big box store. I did not like sitting in a turn lane for several lights or about 15-20 minutes!! That's time spent and I'll never get it back. Traffic congestion is a negative for me. I finally entered the area and the parking lot is set up a bit differently than one would expect. There appeared to be one handicap parking space out in front adjacent to the entryway. There are parking spots available in the rear. I didn't check to see. This parking situation is an aggravating negative for me. I entered the facility and was greeted by the worker at the desk. My first observation was the amount of treadmills available in the middle of the facility. I noted free weights in the back left area. There was a notably large stretching area. I had to look around a bit since I was just coming here for the treadmill run. I noted the small lockers on front of the entry exit area of the male and female doorways. The lockers were all in good condition as well as the rest of the locker room. The lockers room and shower areas were clean. There's a water bottle refill fountain inside the facility. The machines were not dusty in appearance. I didn't see any of them that were posted with an out of order sign. I noted on my way out, none of the workers noticed. Hmmm...this was a negative for me as well. The facility is well worth a visit and your own inspection and evaluation. read more

Been a member for over a year, and have complained to management numerous times about bug infested showers, insufficient equipment, paper towel dispensers constantly broken or unstocked, hand sanitizer unstocked for weeks (during the omicron surge), etc. Now they're planning to renovate, but won't let members freeze their accounts. Instead they say we have to continue paying our full monthly rate, and drive to another city to use their PF gym. Pretty clear they don't care about their members opinions or safety so long as they make a buck. Recommend you look for another gym, like Dedham Health & Athletic or Anytime Fitness--that's what I'm gonna do at least. read more

Just cancelled three memberships today for one simple reason. I discovered that one of my three memberships was being charged a monthly fee because the checking account number was incorrect. (But was being charged to my cc.) No notification whatsoever. My other two accounts were charged directly to my credit card with no additional fee. I asked if why this was the case and was told "it was just the policy". The manager has no discretion to wave the fees. With 6000 members per location, my 3 cancellations just don't matter to PF. Planet Fitness is a good value, but the model is to extract as much cash out of the widest member base possible. Customer relations is not a priority. I am leaving because I won't support this philosophy. I'd rather give the money to a company that cares about individual customers. I will happily pay more for that. Update: don't be fooled by the PF Social Team's comment below. When I reached out, all they did was state that it's Owner's choice, and tell me they were saddened to hear what happened. No changes. They're not going to do anything to fix the situation. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE! TL;DR - The REGIONAL MANAGER openly told me it's their policy to ALWAYS charge members the full fee, even if members aren't getting what they're paying for. No exceptions. No working shower? Tough. Gym closed for renovations for 2 months? Tough! Regardless of the quality of service they provide or the availability of the location, they're taking your money if you have an active membership (and won't even let you freeze your membership if they close for renovation). Absolutely DO NOT recommend this place. A couple other people already posted about how they wouldn't let people freeze their memberships during renovations, forcing people to drive to completely different towns to workout with no compensation for the increased cost and inconvenience, so I won't dive more into that. Instead, I want to talk about the horrendous experience I had interacting with a woman who claimed she was the regional manager. For context, the showers at this location have ALWAYS had unreliable hot water. And before they renovated, they were literally crawling with little bugs--disgusting. I reported it, but nothing got done. After renovations I come back and the hot water still isn't fixed, so I report it to the staff--a woman I hadn't seen before. She tells me they're going to fix it, but she doesn't know when. I ask if I can get a discount on my membership until it is fixed, especially given the hassle with the renovation (during which they didn't bother to fix the hot water, and she tells me there's nothing they can do at a club level, it's out of their control. I then ask to speak with a district manager, and she said she's the regional manager...so now it's obvious she was gaslighting me about the issue being a club level thing. She then tells me that it's going to be an expensive fix, $60k. Okay...why should that matter to me as a consumer? It's the cost of doing business when you're running a GYM, not your member's problem. Finally, she let's me know that it's in our membership agreement that there are NO CIRCUMSTANCES under which the gym will provide a discount for lack of service or quality. WOW. Regardless of whether that's the case (I'm sure it is, these guys are SHAADY!!) she just openly admitted they don't care one bit about their members' experience. They just want the money. This Planet Fitness location is 24hrs and has more equipment than a lot of the other PF chains. I like coming to this location because it is very spacious and there are tons of machines so I'm never waiting. I like how they have certain areas sectioned off, like the stretching and bar area as well as the ab area. The locker room is always clean when I go and the locker room is huge, which I love because you're not on top of people when you're trying to change or after a shower. They positioned the TVs perfectly so that no matter where you are in the gym you can see them. I honestly just feel like this owner of this location prepared a proper blueprint because the layout just makes perfect sense. read more

Dismal and depressing. Wastebaskets overflowing, dust hanging from the ceiling, gross locker rooms. Just an an unfriendly vibe I have not personally witnessed in a gym before. Guys hang on the equipment endlessly staring at cell phones and not working out. A few actually scary/ aggressive people. Openly coughing patrons, no masks required. I was actually harassed there in an embarrassing way and told staff, and the individual was not told to leave, nothing (so I left, no support for respectful, rule-abiding customers). The staff are checked out, uncaring. Just quit to find a friendlier and cleaner gym. read more

Good gym. Plenty of weights. Nice and clean in all aspects. Members are very nice and staff is great. I just changed my review to five stars... The owner here absolutely completely cares about his customers! I was a little upset before when the music was so loud and thumping that there was problems concentrating to work out... Literally two days later after my review the music is at a comfortable level and music selection is a lot better. Thank you very much! I love planet fitness, but perhaps that's because I'm a very straight forward gym user. I don't want classes, a pool, or a daycare. I just want my cardio and lifting and I'll make that work whatever way possible. It is great for the price. I find the locker rooms and showers spotless and acceptable (most inexpensive gyms I'm terrified of catching a disease in their sketchy showers...ever been to any of the Boston YMCAs...gross). The staff are friendly and helpful. Most members keep to themselves and the location really lives up to the slogan judgement free. Edit: Dropped from five stars to three stars. They made it nearly impossible to cancel (what a surprise from a gym). Each time I came in they gave me a different reason I had to come back in another day or another fee they were going to charge (this happened four times). I got a different story each of the four times (the manager was involved three of the times and was part of the problem and not the solution). read more

Very clean and acceptable PF outpost. I came here one night on my way to Legacy Place, and was pleased to find a bunch of those sorta stair-climbery/elliptical machines, which my neighborhood PF does not have. It was no prob checking in though I have a different home gym, and it was easy enough to find the place and park. PS- this gym is like $10 a month, so get off your butt and start working out, if that's your resolution. read more

So incredibly dark! Even situating myself close to entrance near windows it is still way too dark! I much prefer my home location in Mattapan which has the treadmills facing the windows and gets much more natural light. Also, here there are no tvs on the machines, just tvs on the walls. It's hard for a near sighted person like myself to see these. Staff here have been fine, it's mainly the darkness that I dislike about this place. read more

I have to say. I have have been going this gym and location for about 8 years.the Manger Kevin is one of the best. He know me by name . So since me came back on phase 3 I have never seen a clean gym in my life. This gym is so clean, it's lt's like every 10 minutes someone is vacuuming . You can tell that Kevin and his staff are on the same page. They make you feel so safe . If your looking for a gym, I highly recommend the one in Dedham!!! Good job!!! I've been going to this gym for over 4 years now - basically as soon as I began living in Dedham! It was a great gym when managed by Mark about a year ago (he works for corporate PF and has now moved to a location close to his home) and it is a great gym now managed by Kevin. I like this PF better than most that I visit, and as a businesswoman as well as avid traveler I have worked out at many PFs around the country - including New York, Boston, New Hampshire, and even Texas. This gym is much cleaner than your traditional Planet Fitness, and has a good layout and friendly, helpful staff. Speaking of the staff - an experience with the manager, Kevin, prompted me to write this review. I recently rode my bike to the gym, and managed to forget my lock for it. I have an expensive bicycle that was bought for me by my husband for our wedding, so it has sentimental value as well as financial value. Distressed about forgetting my lock, I asked Kevin to watch my bike. He went a step further, and helped me wheel the bike in and lock it safely in his office until I completed my workout. This gym has the human factor that many PFs are missing - kudos to Kevin on the management and training of other employees. I have really enjoyed my experience here. **Note: The only reason I have not given this gym 5 stars is that I wish they had exercise/ab balls available like most other PFs do. Getting that 6-pack would be a bit easier if so! :-P read more

I'm giving these people 1 star because 0 wasn't an option. I tried to sign up for a black card membership. They wanted my checking account routing number which I wasn't comfortable providing. I instead offered to pay the entire year in advance but they declined saying they want my checking account information and that's their policy. The extraordinarily rude young man behind the counter said it was that or nothing. I asked why I couldn't pay the year in advance and he replied because he said so. I informed him that I had 4 family members who belong to this gym and they're billed on their credit cards each month and asked what was my point. I replied my point is that you're requiring me to give you access to my checking account and not pay the year in full will require me to move my 4 family members to whatever other gym I do join. He replied you do what you gotta do. I called the customer service department at the Newington New Hampshire corporate office and offered to pay the year in advance for a black card membership and was told they won't do it because the company is trying to avoid the credit card fees. I offered to pay 4% more to cover the fees if they were that concerned about the fees and he said he couldn't do it. Bottom line, Beacon Hill Athletic Club accepts credit cards, allows you to pay the year in advance and now has 5 brand new members. I suggest everyone do the same. Planet Fitness is so poorly run that they're ok with pushing away a member who's willing to pay for their top tier membership so they can attract the $10 per month members...who would be comfortable giving these people access to your bank account? read more

Just having trouble working out a refund due for my membership. Followed the policy and went to the Gym and filled out cancellation form. The refund never came so call spoke to staff (very nice) Andy advised would be mailed 1 week +/- When no refund came called again and this is where it seems to be such that getting run around. Andy doesn't work here? Have called twice asked to leave a message and not sure that was even done. Emailed corporate and advised needed to deal with the franchise branch. Hopefully will be able to speak to someone that can assist me. read more

Ever since I moved to the US, 8 years ago, I found it so inconvenient and expensive to join a gym. Inconvenient because the ones I liked were far from where I lived and insanely expensive, and hopping on the T after work was a pain especially on a cold and snowy day! So I never belonged to a gym until February 2010, when I got my skyrocketed cholesterol test WTF!!!. For a $10 monthly fee and $29 yearly fee you can enjoy all the machines, and if you get the black membership or whatever it's called, you can enjoy limited tanning sessions and invite people to come with you. The staff is very friendly especially that Amy girl. Anyway, now I go 3 times a week, hoping my crazy cholesterol levels have come down a little. read more

Dirty dirty gym. The cliente that goes here have zero civilization skills and look at you with attitude if you alert them to move out of the way to get to a machine or dumbbell. Unfair cancellation practices: just like so many gyms. I called to cancel and they stated that I had to physically come into the gym. I went into the gym to cancel and I was told that I was all set. Now I see that I am being charged $8.99 a month four months after I tried to cancel. They refused to give me my money back immediately and tried to make me go through a bunch of drama to resolve issue. I called the one 800 number on the website and was told that because each club is independently owned I have to deal directly with the owner. Hardly seems worth it for a minuscule amount of money. They have nice TV advertisements and pretty purple colors, but when you get right down to it it's all just a scam. But the gym is fine, average, and purple. read more

I actually love working out here, clean facility, friendly staff, ample parking, and affordable... I mean what more can you really ask for in a gym. There is plenty of equipment, don't usually have a problem getting on the machines I want, aside from January of course but that's expected. It is also located right off 95, which I find perfect since its right on my way home. It's so much easier to go the the gym when you don't have to go out of the way to get there. I would def recommend coming here, been to a couple of Planet Fitness's and this is actually one of my favorites. read more

I love this new planet fitness. It is in a great location (near legacy place and millions of other businesses on route 1). Unlike my current home planet fitness, this location has the "arc trainer" machine which gives a great workout! I also love the several faltscreens mounted to the walls. The machines have remotes so you can pick which tv you want to pay attention to and the closed captioning with go to your machine. Also, I like that the massage chairs have their own "nook." In somerville they are out in front and its less relaxing. read more

Like most gyms, Planet Fitness sells memberships well beyond its capacity. If you come here after work (the only time most of us have to work out) you WILL wait at least 5-15 minutes for a Smith Wrack, which is the only way to do barbell bench presses and squats at this place. You'll also be waiting for the pull-up bar because there's only one of them. You'll be lucky to find a treadmill during peak hours as well. I've been lucky to grab the last of 1 or 2 when I've come in the past, but that's not very reassuring. It really doesn't matter how cheap the gym is if you spend 50% of your time there waiting around instead of working out. Absolutely unacceptable. The facility itself is nice and clean, and the staff is generally friendly, but until they expand to accommodate their membership there's no way I'll be coming back. read more

One of the smallest PF locations I've been to. Not a lot of machines and it gets a decent amount of people when you'd think it would be dead there. But it has what I need to do. Could be a lot cleaner, it does smell odd and I always find myself coughing when I leave. Not exactly sure what it is, maybe it is the mold that someone previously mentioned. read more

re: Dedham, MA. location Typical of PF, it's fine. They're way understaffed, but the staff is great. The equipment is in decent shape, and there's usually enough available. They have nowhere near enough people to keep this place clean and manage population - they usually only have 2 on the desk, they need 4 easily. It's also way too crowded for covid times, even if they are within their capacity, and absolutely no one wears masks except the staff. Darwin will take care of that though. Their only major problem at this branch is a bunch of idiot LUNKs have taken over the gym and they're real weasels so the kids at the desk can't figure out how to get rid of them. People dropping weights, grunting, groups of dudes standing around yelling "go! go!" while they're working out with each other, can't count the number of A-shirts. They do all this while the desk kids are cleaning the bathroom or dealing with customers, so the kids don't have a chance to catch them. Very intimidating. They need a senior manager to deal with the problem. It usually happens in the evenings, I'd say from 4 pm on. Cellphone use is a minor problem, it's usually obnoxious white people, and it's occurred 3 or 4 times while I've been there. The desk kids are good about shutting it down, but it still happens occasionally and more than one person who's been reported has gotten physically hostile. The neighborhood just has its share of little man syndrome, and again there aren't enough people at the desk to manage this size gym. Overall for 10 bucks a month, it's not bad, but at this point I'm getting sick of the d-bags so I'm gonna go to one of the other hundred gyms that are available at that price. If you are looking for a Gym where you can just go in get your work out done and walk out, this one is it. Good selection of machine and free wights. The cardio machines are sometimes crowded, but you can always get a printed hand out of the busy days and times. Than schedule yourself accordingly. The bathrooms are always clean, so is the equipment. The people that regularly attend the gym pretty much stay to themselves or at times may just give you a friendly nod, as if to say "glad you made it in today". The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, Not overbearing or arrogant. This gym really lives up to their moto "judgement free zone" What you wont get at Planet fitness: You wont get pampered, or a red carpet rolled out just because you decided to take initiative and get yourself to the gym. What you will get: A friendly staff. When approached with any questions about any exercise or the facilities they made sure I got an answer. They were honest. When asked about different exercises not only they explained the proper way to perform it at the machine I was using at the time but also almost every other options and how to best employ those options through out the gym. The TVs are always on great channels. If you are picky, than bring your own entertainment. I only wish they had a wet or dry sauna. Its not a spa so don't expect the same amenities. After moving away from the Marlborough PF, it took me a while to find the right location to go to. Dedham PF is now officially my new gym. This location, which is owned by the same people as the Marlborough PF is well maintained. It is clean and the perfect place to get in, get your workout on, get cleaned up and get out. They have plenty of cardio machines and tvs and they have a nicely spread out lifting and machine section as well. The staff is as friendly as you would expect at a PF (not PF's forte). There's also plenty of parking in the Dedham Plaza. Overall an excellent value for the money! read more

I've been a member of $100/month gyms and I am so happy that I am a member of this PF gym for only $10/month! If you want to work out then this is the place! They do not have blow dryers, body lotion, shampoo or body soap either but that's why you save so much money on this type of gym. PROS: - $10 a month!! - Friendly staff! - Clean bathroom facility (toilet, showers) - Convenient location and a lot of parking spots! - Not crowded! (I've only been a member for a few weeks so I'm not sure what it will be like in the winter) - $10!! Tried to sign up and they are insisting I owe $79, which I do not. I'd canceled in July 2017, and Planet Fitness reps won't let me join again until I pay this amount. But they were taki g money directly from my bank account. As well, no one has ever called or mailed or emailed. Today is the first time I'd heard of this supposed debt. I had a peculiar interaction with a staff member here, I asked why there was no hand sanitizer and was told "it's not in the budget anymore".
