I had a duplicate membership that I paid for for over a year and instead of getting help I was told to sign a paper and it relinquished my rights to legal action against planet fitness and I was told "it's already done you can't do anything about it". so I cancelled my active membership in person. I tried calling corporate and they laughed at me. But alas I didn't learn my lesson. I got a membership again. after canceling it I found out I have been paying for a membership for over a year. Moved out of town and tried to cancel membership. There was not an option online to cancel, had to go back to home gym. Made trip to do just that and the kid at the counter told me it was done. Planet Fitness took close to $100 out of my account so I called and was told by an Asst manager that they would refund the money, but Manager today refused to stand by her Assistant Manager and told me it was false information and was rude and absolutely refused to refund my money or take my bank account information off the computer. I have been going to this gym for a couple months. I bring my own yoga mat and resistance bands both for sanitation and the bands help me improve my workout efficiency. I was stopped at the door and not allowed to bring in my gear. A ridiculous rule and I don't want to be part of a gym that doesn't support sanitation or my gym workouts! This is the best gym in Westeros. You would think weirdos like giants, night walkers, or even an Imp would bother you during a vigorous workout. Sometime they even leave pizza out for you/peasants from Kings-landing. Jon Snow the manager of this establishment, is one of he kindest people you'll ever meet. Very sketchy and sneaky! I received a notification that Planet Fitness in Gastonia on S New Hope charged my account after 7 or 8 months of them not being open. I called to find out why they charged me without my consent.The lady who answered told me they sent an email (which I didnt get) saying they were opening on 09/01. I told her I didnt receive it. She told me I should have checked my spam. Who checks their spam? So they have decided to sneak in an email (not by mail service) that they were opening and that you would be charged. Is that right? Think about how many people they have done this to! Called corporate and it says each planet fitness is it's own franchise and to take it I with them. Planet Fitness knows how to build a gym. They have a ton of machines to use and lots of free weights. There are sections of the gym that are off limits to certain types of athletes, such as the 30-minute workout area. That section has the same or similar machines to other sections of the gym, but it is there just for those doing a 30-minute workout. There is a dedicated abdominal section and an area for cardio that has three rows of treadmills and ellipticals. Since this was my first trip to Planet Fitness, I was introduced to the Lunk Alarm, which is a siren on the wall that is activated by staff members who see a person grunting, stressing, or dropping weights. You see, Planet Fitness is for everyone; not just hardcore gym rats. There are two huge fans on the ceiling that really circulate some air. The name of the company that makes the enormous fans is Big Ass Fans. True story! The location in Gastonia is very convenient. It was close to our hotel and places to eat. Speaking of eating, you can get pizza at Planet Fitness. That's hillarious! I paid $30 for a week pass, but I only stayed in Gastonia for two days, but if I ever visit again, I'm coming back to Planet Fitness. The only drawback is that this place is popular, so lots of people and getting a machine can be difficult. The eye candy was excellent. Great gym! read more

Excellent location, great equipment, terrific staff. This location has just installed brand new equipment in the building and it has been somewhat upgraded again. However set it there clientele would not miss a beat they offered everyone to use three other facilities for one 24 hour period until they installed And updated new equipment. They let everyone know in advance by sending out numerous emails which Everyone informed. This particular location has always been a definite benefit to the surrounding area. The pricing is affordable And the facilities are terrific. read more

The street name of this location says it all - there is HOPE for mass market fitness centers. Clean, well maintained, well stocked paper towels and cleaner, and extensive selection of cardio equipment - this is what chain fitness centers should be like. Having purchased a weekly pass for $30.00, I was impressed by the sheer number of cardio equipment at the Gastonia location. Row after row of treadmills, bikes and other cardio equipment prevented any waiting for machines, even that the busiest hours. Since I was a visitor to the area, I had never heard of Planet Fitness but as I started this review, I discovered that they are in California as well. Move over 24 Hour Fitness, a new player is in town and if the California locations are anything like the one in Gastonia, your days are numbered. read more

Overall a nice gym-staff are friendly. Facilities are clean. Great that they have free Wi-Fi. Never have to wait for equipment. Trainer is great- very encouraging and able to work with clients at every level. Classes are offered at a variety of times to meet many needs and interest levels. Gym policies are vague and inconsistently enforced. Women's lockers are in need of repair- one locker has been locked for months and is completely empty. Management ignores emails about concerns unless also sent to corporate office. read more

I don't normally post reviews, but this deserves one. I have been a Black Card member of Planet Fitness on and off for probably close to 10 years. It isn't the best gym, but it has been convenient. 2 years ago, I resigned a basic membership and was offered a Black Card special for the same price. I took it. Have the Black Card to prove it. I have received all the Black Card privileges for the last 2 years.....until today. An assistant manager in Belmont said that they were not going to honor the agreement. Thankfully, I have memberships at multiple gyms. Needless to say, I cancelled my membership. These people don't seem to care about member retention, and there are much better gyms out there. read more

We voiced our concerns, completed surveys & sent many emails. I am happy to say that the schedule has been "REVISED" and I am one excited customer!!!!Working and trying to juggle when to schedule a class is tough when there is nothing offered in the evening, but I am grateful that the General Manager, Regional Manager & the owner heard our pleas and we are back in the grind! Best gym in Gastonia. I particularly enjoyed the massage tables and the weight sets. Great air conditioning for such a large building with such high ceilings as well. With they had a set of scales you could weight yourself on. read more

Staff friendly. Areas clean except men's locker room not so much.... Huge Workout area allows for free immersion, transition, and isolation according to preference. Don't know why people come in groups and then stand or sit in your way??? Planning using as home base for now. Will use massage stations next time!! read more

The new gym is open. Same strip mall but a much large and more visible location! And now they're open 24 hours. They now have a 30 minute work out room with equipment on timers, more tvs and these secret areas only for black card members. Damn...gotta get me one of those! read more

Pretty decent. Bathroom is clean. Hydro massage not as strong as other planet fitnesses I've been to. And some guy is always grunting and clanking weights. No lunk alarm sound off. As others do. Convenient location right off the interstate. They do have more machines than most and several I've never seen at other locations. read more

Well its a pretty nice place to work out but the people who work in there act somewhat snooty and if you come with a friend for the free friend visit, its like they give you a look and watch you while you're there . I joined the gym in Gastonia last fall. I was happy with the gym until I encountered a male in the ladies' locker room. I called today to ask about the locker room policy and was told that starting this week any male is free to walk into the ladies' locker room. They call this transgender friendly. I call it anti-female and anti-safety. I am cancelling my membership immediately. I think that the Gastonia franchise should at least have the decency to announce this change so women know not to undress out in the open. read more

The gym is nice and clean, plenty of equipment, and it's all top notch. My issue isn't with that though. My issue is Planet's corporate attitude towards fitness. God forbid you work out hard there. You'll get booted. I've seen it happen so many times. I'm not a "grunter" when I lift, but I like knowing if I have to drop a weight I won't be banned for making the choice not to tear my shoulder up. It's just ridiculous. They claim it's a "judgement free zone" but I've seen staff in my few recent visits (and when I was a full time member years ago) judging the crap out of people that are just trying to go above and beyond with their fitness. So much so that it makes me uncomfortable to go there. It's a bad environment, and has always made me feel self conscious which I obviously don't appreciate. Again, gym equipment is all top notch, it's always clean, and if you're just a casual fitness person I guess it's fine, but just beware that even if you make a mistake and drop a weight or make a loud noise, you could be banned. While I do somewhat like this gym, it is always to HOT for the "customers" working out. They do have the two hugh fans but they are always running at the lowest speed. Even when you ask the manager Megan if they could turn the fans up, they state they can not because it gets to cold. WTHeck!!! The entire staff is walking around in short sleved shirts in the wintertime. The only person who would complain about it being to cold would be someone not moving and a simply solution for that is called a jacket. read more
