Your Planet Fitness Gym is the most unfriendly of all the Planet Fitness gyms that I go to in the area. Your desk staff hardly look up when anyone arrives or leaves. This PF is located on the southwest end of the Hampshire Mall closer to the Cinemark theater. There is plenty of parking. After a busy day of Zoom meetings, the Smith College Museum of Art and a couple beers at Northampton Brewery, it was time for a quick workout followed by a shower. The fitness area was not busy at all - I had no issue finding the machines I wanted and doing a few reps. Nothing crazy, just a bit of calorie burning. Afterwards, a decent shower. The shower area was reasonably clean and the locker room was tidy. Overall, an OK experience for a Planet Fitness. I'd return here. I go to PF at least 5 days a week. Anyone who's at the desk is always welcoming. I strength train with Myke 3 times a week. He started off getting to know what I could do then really ramped it up. He got to know me and what I was looking to get out of my workouts and customized it for me. He never lets me cheat my time, pushes me to do better all the while making sure I feel ok. I've even seen him see someone working out and go over and help them with their form. It was appreciated. The locker room is cleaned top to bottom everyday. I use the tanning area and hydro chairs a few times a month. The areas are always clean and stocked with cleaners and towels. Well worth getting a membership. read more

Be aware that the membership you think you are signing up for might not be the one you end up with. I joined recently for a flat one year membership for $199, and I was sure that the agreement included being able to bring a guest every time I went. My wife and I are trying to establish a "buddy system" routine. Last week, no problem bringing her along, but then, today the guy at the front desk (a different one than the guy last week) says that to bring a guest, I now need a "black card" ?? Love this place. Recently moved a little further from Hadley, so can't make it as much as I used to. Really miss it! Has everything you need for a basic and complete work out. Some people complain about the assisted squat areas, but I prefer them that way, as I usually work out alone and feel much more comfortable having a built-in spot for when benching and doing squats. read more

When this gym closed down, I was not informed and missed a week of workouts. The new gym opened across the street in the Mall. Even though the old equipment was in disrepair, I liked how it worked better than the new equipment. Also the new equipment will probably have a lot of problems down the road. Time will tell. When I used the gym today, an alarm kept going off over and over again. Again, no notice was given and I left in the middle of my workout due to the excessive noise that hurt my ears. I am presently looking for a new gym, although The Planet Fitness is minutes from my home, and is affordable. (The cost is $15 per month). read more

Been a PF member for ten years and have visited dozens of locations. As much as I like the Hadley location I cannot stand using a dirty facility. The garbage cans are overflowing, the locker room, restroom, and shower area are disgusting. I only stopped going because I moved to Greenfield and live 1/4 mile from the Y now. I already miss the spacious workout space, the ability to hop on any machine at any time (no waiting, friends, it's awesome), and certain machines that they just don't have at the Y. And yeah, I miss the $10 monthly fee. It's a basic gym. No classes, no pool, no separate activity room. But you can get the job done there, totally. A fantastic value. Prior to joining Planet Fitness I belonged to Gold's Gym and Hampshire Fitness. I never went to Gold's much, never felt very comfortable there; and the locker room at Hampshire was so disgusting that I could not bring myself to renew my membership. PF is clean, modern, spacious, bright, friendly. I recommend it. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I would have LOVED if there had been a separate activity room with a few classes, or even just a room for ball work and stretching. read more

I have to dock a couple of stars for the customer service, because I had an atrocious experience. I went down to New York City for the semester and was hoping to cancel or transfer my membership. I tried to cancel first -- I gave the good folks in Hadley a call. The pleasant tone of voice (which I did recognize, but I'm not naming names) quickly soured when I said so and got a curt "Is it military or medical?" response. When I said neither, I was again curtly informed that I had to cancel in person. That was going to be difficult, since I was in Brooklyn at the time. No matter. I then went to the website to get more information. Lo and behold, an option to transfer membership! I jumped on it. Except the website wouldn't take my name and member number. I tried as many different combinations as I could think of... no dice. I gave up and sent an email asking them to confirm the name I used to sign up and my member number. After a second email, I got a quick response telling me that my number was something completely different than what I thought, and no confirmation on the name I had used. I tried that number with every name variation I could think of. Again, nothing. I emailed again and once again, got no response. So basically, as long as you stay at your home gym and remember to actually cancel or suspend your membership before you go anywhere, you're in good shape. I lost $80 because of the shoddy customer service. Don't get me wrong, the folks are all perfectly friendly in person, and when there are no logistics or memberships involved, the gym is a great place to go. Just a warning that with $10-20 a month, you really do get what you pay for. read more

I've had a white card membership in this planet fitness for over a year now and have yet to be disappointed. The gym is usually moderately busy but never overcrowded. This location also manages to escape the "college" feel that one would expect from being situated between Amherst and Northampton. Beyond that the equipment is clean, abundant and well maintained. My one minor gripe: they always seem to be running out of paper towels in the bathroom. This is everything that one would expect from a basic gym, a pleasant experience that I recommend. read more

I am very disappointed that the massage bed has been broken for over 2 weeks and the water dispenser as well. The other massage bed is directly in the sun from a window with no shade, making it too uncomfortable to use. I have a black card so I can use other gyms other than my local one when traveling, but this one needs better care. read more

Planet Fitness is definitely where I'll be workin' on my fitness. It's only 10 bucks a month which is pretty unbeatable, unless you get free use of a gym at one of the surrounding colleges. But that's not the case for me, so ten dollars a month for a wide range of cardio equipment, free-weights, and strength-training machines is pretty awesome. And no, it's not a dump. When I say 10 bucks a month, people are quick to assume that you don't get much for your money. But that 10 bucks goes a long way at Planet Fitness. The locker rooms are basic but are clean and spacious enough for all of the clientele. And there are more machines than I can keep track of. I've never had to wait for a machine and have only once had someone wait for the strength-training machine that I was using. There are two sets of all of the free-weights and there are even two of some strength training machines. There's a great area for stretching where you can just grab a mat and do your thing. And there are plenty of cleaning supplies around so you can always keep the machines clean which I like since gyms tend to be sweaty places. The only thing that's taking a while to get used to is the fact that the entire gym is just in one, huge open room. Past gyms that I've been to have different rooms so you get a bit more privacy or don't have to be in such close proximity to other people who are working out. But for 10 bucks a month it's really a sweet deal! read more

The machines are okay but it's the environment that is weird. there are tons of machines but almost on a daily basis someone will come and get on the machine right next to me? At every other gym I've been to people seem to know to space each other every other machine. I know PF advertises themselves as a "judge free zone" but I have witnessed multiple people working out in jeans and long flowy skirts?? i have also seen people walking on the treadmill in BIRKENSTOCK SANDALS and today I saw a man on the bike in moccasins (isn't that bad for the machines? Why doesn't the staff stop them?) my reason for the 1 star instead of 2 is because there are only 2 fans in the whole facility so it's deff not the coolest gym I've been to + also really annoying that you can only use the tanning bed if you sign up for the whole year. PF is cheap, but I suppose you get what you pay for. read more

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. You are paying 10 to 20 a month. I have had memberships at the Y and that place is tiny, smells funky, charges an obscene amount of cash, and they don't play any music. (Never mind that they only play liberal news channels on the TV all day) The equipment is not the best here but its doable and they are open late on weekends when other places close at dinner time. I could not tell you what the bathrooms look like since I work out and leave. I prefer showering at home, and come to exercise in my gym clothes. I see they are building a new gym in Northampton so I am excited. read more

If you're coming to the gym to use machines and free-weights, I think you're good to go. The gym itself is smaller compared to where I've been before (think BodyXchange and InShape Fitness), but if you avoid going between 4pm and 7pm, it's rarely that crowded. Tons of treadmills; I do wish they had more cardio options, or at least a stair stepper. Recently their TVs and audio system have been falling apart. I understand this probably doesn't bother some, but it will others. As a student who can't afford cable TV--and also one who benefits from some audio/visual distraction while I do my cardio--I often schedule my evening gym treks around shows I'd like to watch. But so many of their screens are down, and those that are up are often not even hooked up to the audio system (what?) that I've been cutting my visits short. I was drawn into my one-year contract by their low-low rate of $99 for the year which I doubt will show up come time to renew my subscription; but considering my only other option is paying 3x that for the university rec center, it's better than nothing. read more

I have been with Planet Fitness since they opened their location in Hadley. I enjoy watching TV channels to encourage me to complete my routine exercises. The new location inside the Hampshire Mall is very convenient for me. My only discouraging issue from going there is that their TVs have many problems; for examples not all channels are synched in the machines. Watching TV while exercising encourages me to spend the amount of time I need on each machine in order to complete my set of exercises. I like to watch the news channels and I go back and forth between two or three channels every time I go to the gym so I can get different opinions without bias. What surprises me is that the Fox news is available and very clear on most if not all machines where CNN is available only on the screens but with no sound on the headphones !! I reported this problem to more than one of the staff and they promised to bring it to the attention of the manager. Unfortunately, no action has been taken which made me to think that this issue is intentional and I started to feel uncomfortable to bring it again to the staff. Staff is great and gave me no hassles for not having my BC member key fob on me and were very pleasant. I will definitely be back soon. Well I figured I'd give it a go and get the PF black card membership. I used to belong when I lived elsewhere, and I loved it there - I figured I'd have the same experience. I walked in and two people all on their personal laptops and eating at the front desk... ok gross. I don't want you chowing down on food and watching you smack your lips while you chew oatmeal. Don't you have a break room for that? I said hi joined and that I joined online. She asked first and last name I told her and then scanned a card and basically threw it at me looking blankly at me.... ok great don't I get a tour? Like hello?! Where's the bathroom, locker room, black card zone, free-weights, cables? I remember when I joined my old PF gym, they took the time to show me around show me everything ask if I had questions in each area to make sure I was comfortable. Nope nothing just, a blank stare from a girl with food in her mouth... and the girl who gave me the card. So, I looked around, worked out, basically felt lost for the 1st workout. Then I asked if I could use the tanning bed. She asked me how long... I was like well what type of beds do you have. She said lay down. I was like ok what's there max? How old are the bulbs? It was like pulling teeth or herding cats to get them to answer questions. Like you just registered me... you know it's my 1st day you should be explaining this to me. But nope I guess maybe their management doesn't explain this to them. Well after playing the 100-question game with them I finally said ok. They told me which room to go in and instantly look at the tanning bed. I WAS LIKE YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME. They just told me all new bulbs, and this is the crap they left in the bed. Hair, dirt, crap, who knows what. I tried wiping it off. Like I'm sorry but even though that's under the acrylic that's disgusting. So, I just left. I know this place is the new location for them BUT that should mean everything is better and cleaner and staff is trained at a higher level. Well I guess now I'm stuck with a membership for a gross gym with people that think it's ok to chow down and check me in at the same time. No thank you. Save you money and join a gym where management and owners take pride in their place. If you can't keep a tanning bed clean, I can only imagine what else you are letting go. read more

I mean, you get what you pay for. For a $20 membership you get tanning and my favorite unlimited guests. Because who likes to go to the gym alone? I do like that they have a circuit training area much like curves if you don't know what you're doing. But they do have a lot of cardio machines and not enough weightlifting area. read more

What can I say about Planet Fitness except that I go there out of necessity - not because I enjoy it. There's nary a window in the place... nothing but awful fluorescent lighting. Loads of cardio machines and your basic machine circuit. They also have a mini Curves style 30 minute machine circuit cordoned off in what I would describe as a metal corral with an actual stoplight telling you when to start and when to stop and move on to the next machine. I wouldn't be caught dead doing that but whatever works for you. Locker rooms are basic and dreary and all of the lockers are rusted on the inside, but for the most part it's clean. They have tanning booths set up right in the weight machine area, which is kinda weird/awkward and a couple of massage chairs which you can get access to with an upgraded membership. I will say that the cardio machines are always in good working order and clean, from what I can tell, which is nice considering I had a Gold's membership elsewhere and that was definitely not the case there. Lastly, you can't really beat the price of the membership - it's CHEAP - and therefore worth lowering one's standards a little until the weather improves and it's nice enough to work out outside. read more

Extremely busy, sometimes hard to get machines even though it is a large facility. Front desk staff is often rude and doesn't acknowledge you when you come in because they are too busy chatting. Lastly, they have some rule hidden in fine print that says if you want to avoid paying the yearly fee, you have a to cancel a full 30 days before the fee is assessed. I found this out when I cancelled my membership the day a moved out of town, well before the fee was to be charged. Very disappointed. If that is the sort of policies that are common are other locations, I will not be patronizing a planet fitness ever again. read more

The relocation to the Mall takes a bit of getting used to, but the upgrades in the bathrooms are well worth it! All the equipment is completely new. I wish there weren't quite so many cardio machines and there was a bit more space for stretching, weights, 360 fitness and HIIT people. Those sections are a big plus. I would like to share my support for Planet Fitness as a person who is a first-time senior gym person. In fact, I never thought I'd ever be caught dead in a gym. I went to support a friend, however; and I got hooked! I like the non-judgmental, atmosphere and the user-friendly machines. The price is more than reasonable and with my membership, I can bring a friend. I recommend this gym for the shy, out-of-shape, and inexperienced. In just one month I feel like a new person! The clientele at the gym is amazing and diverse, and you don't have to be witty or clever or show off. You do your thing in any way that works -- and it is fun and rewarding. read more

I came over here, with others. from another gym (Leading Edge) that went out of business. The first things we noticed were the darkness, the ugly black and yellow decor, and the noise. The first two they can't change. But the noise comes from music played too loud, sometimes so loud it interferes with your own music on iPod. There seem to be no standards on noise. Sometimes, when you go in, noise is not a problem. Other times, if you ask them to turn it down, they will. Other times, they refuse to turn it down at all. As one employee (named Devon) remarked, "I like it this way. If I turn it down any more, then I can't hear it myself from the front desk here." I recommend that they establish firm guidelines and stick to them. There could be designated quiet periods. In any case, the music should never be so loud that it drowns out customers' iPods. It makes the experience at the gym extremely unpleasant for everyone. read more

Planet Fitness in Hadley is currently my home gym. I enjoy the atmosphere there but have to dock off one star for cleanliness. Dont get me wrong, it's not filthy or very dirty... and there is a lot of traffic in and out of that gym, but honestly it's the tanning booths that aren't so hot. First off the floors are a bit dirty (people who use them are supposed to wipe the floors) but what really creeps me out is the dust/hair that are stuck in the fans in the tanning booths. This is really the only complaint I have abuot this location. Otherwise, it's decent. read more

I recently made attempts to close my account after suffering a sports related injury and management refused to close my account and kept charging my debit card which I previously had authorized for a monthly membership, because they wouldn't cancel my membership I blocked them from pulling on my bank account. I apparently used my credit card a few times to purchase drinks from the gym and just found out that they saved my credit card information on file and auto-transfered my membership fees onto my credit card without my authorization. I had to close my credit card down and will be opening up a fraud investigation against management. Dirty business that hinges on illegal practices. read more

I have been a member of quite a few planet fitnesses but I can say this one is the best. Treadmills are all in good shape, there is just the right amount of freeweights, the ventilation is good (this is usually a huge problem at all planet fitnesses). I would say go, if you're a student in the amherst area its worth it, it will not be nearly as crowded as teh rec center. read more

they fail to mention that the yearly fee will be charged unless you cancel 30 days from date due, yet they lead you on to believing that you can try a month for a low fee of 10$....Make matters feel even grosser is that they have you sign the cancellation bill without showing you the document that you'll later receive with a signature on it stating you owe them the yearly fee. this is just bad con artist level business, thanks for reminding me why I am always going local. plus the mega televised thing adds another bought of creepy. read more

Dishonest business practice!!! I signed up for membership during $1 promotion in January 2017. I specifically asked if there will be other fee, like annual fee? Hadley staff told me there will be no other fee, just $10 a month. I read the screens of contract very carefully, and I didn't see any fee mentioned. $39 was withdrew from my checking account 2 months later. A male staff acted very RUDE to intimidate me that they will not return the fee. He said he knew which girl signed me up and she was straight to every customer about $39 annual fee. (This guy lied. He was not there when I signed up.) I asked to speak to the manager (she was the one who signed me up). She looked at the computer telling me she cannot see who signed me up. (Again, proves either this manager or that guy lied.) She cannot refund the fee even if it was not disclosed to me. She directed me to email Planet Fitness corporate office. She could not provide a direct email but told me to email the customer service on PF website. She pretended to be nice that she will help me. (She was the one who created the trouble without disclosing annual fee.) I emailed the corporate office a couple of times. Only got 1 generic email response that annual fee is charged in June each year. (I got charged in March.) No more follow up email to resolve this dishonest business behavior. I was deciding to buy a $70 rowing machine before I signed up (PF doesn't have a whole body workout machine). When I found out $39 annual fee, I already paid more than $70 to Planet Fitness. I ended up cancel the membership and bought that rowing machine anyway. read more
