We were looking at a few different towns, but I'm glad we wound up in Summit because I love going to this gym. Pros (which are significant): - Like a typical Equinox, it's large, clean, and well-maintained, with all the usual amenities (including the chilled, eucalyptus-scented towels). They wipe down the mats well in between classes. - It's less crowded than the Manhattan locations I used to frequent. It's unusual to have to wait for equipment or a shower, etc. - The classes are great--and, honestly, the main reason to join Equinox (because if you need just a place to work out, there are cheaper options). I take practically everything (except spinning), and my favorite instructors include Kelsey, Michelle, and Jennifer. (John T. is also very good, but unlike the others, I think he still doesn't know my name, even though I've been doing his classes for years.) Renee does an excellent job overseeing the group-fitness program. - I haven't done much personal training here (it's expensive), but I did have a few good sessions with Marcus (and a friend of mine has been working happily with him for years now). - The Kids Club is a wonderful resource for parents. It's so nice to work out while someone watches your kids. It's $20 for two hours, but that's a bargain given the going rate for babysitting in Summit. - A while back, I complained about the lack of a juice/snack bar. Now they have one, courtesy of Essex Squeeze--and it's great! - I also previously mentioned the lack of built-in combination locks. Now they have them. Possible improvements (some admittedly minor, some not realistic): - I wish they had a larger stretching area or additional stretching areas; the one area they do have can get crowded. - They should check the treadmills more regularly to make sure they're in good working order; too frequently you'll encounter one that wobbles a little or makes weird noises. - A larger pool, heated to a higher temperature, would be nice. - The men's bathroom could use upgrading. There are only two stalls and two urinals. I wish the stall doors were the kind that went down to the floor and indicated whether the stall was occupied. They could also be cleaned more frequently. - I also wish they had some private all-gender bathrooms (like certain other Equinoxes). - Like every Equinox, they need to upgrade their toilet paper (Charmin Ultra Strong is the way to go). - I miss the old Kiehl's products. The Grown Alchemist cleanser doesn't lather or rinse off well, and its lotion doesn't get absorbed easily. (But replacing Kiehl's with Grown Alchemist was a company-wide decision.)

At first, scheduling personal training was a bit rocky since my original trainer (I think Joseph Marcantonio) canceled last minute. But then I got paired with Emily, and honestly she's the sweetest and most amazing trainer. She made me feel comfortable right away and helped me build my routine from scratch. Even with a couple of bumps at the beginning, I'm really glad I joined. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and overall the experience has been worth it.

To be clear, the gallon of milk was not picked up due to its weight, it was instead shoved with mighty force to make way for the all important Go-Gurt. Once I built up the confidence to try it out I was shocked that Caldwell CrossFit (CC) is not home to only large, no shirt-wearing macho men who judge all if they can't bench 350 lbs, complete 25 pull-ups and had Jesus himself chisel their bodies. There were other 'regular' people in there! The community is supportive of all who walk through the door and the Staff are incredible. If you're truly serious about getting fit, and not just having a fancy key ring that shows that you're signed up for a gym this is the place to go. Of course it's more expensive than a regular gym, but with it you get ~2 weeks of one-on-one with a trainer to familiarize yourself with the exercises needed, you will never have to wait for weights, you have a personal coach teaching each class encouraging you and giving you pointers, and if you want, you can stay in the gym after class to work on other things. You get what you pay for, people. I am just warning all who have read this far into this post: You're going to be working hard in classes. If you want to putz around the gym in your Lululemon gear, wearing make-up and not breaking a sweat do yourself a favor and don't sign up for CC. **Spoiler Alert (not really spoiling anything & not a spoiler alert): Getting fit is NOT easy and requires hard work.** If you're serious about getting fit and live in the area this is the place to go to. The trainers are second to none, it's clean and it definitely motivates you to come back as often as you can.

Thanks to his willingness to help and dedication to me personally, I have been improved beyond what even physical therapy could offer. I did not think I would be able to exercise ever again. Since working with Craig privately, I am now attending crossfit classes 3-4 times a week, and experiencing less and less knee pain, all while improving strength and skill. I started out as a person who was "afraid" of crossfit and gyms. Now I feel that I have a place that I truly fit in. Every coach and staff member is welcoming and helpful, and not intimidating in any way. Every skill level is welcome at this gym, and they even offer different types of classes to fit your needs. I posted a status on FB for recommendations on a great trainer and Donne kept coming. I decided to check him out, and I'm confident I made the right decision. I've only been going here for a short amount of time, but this place is great. Donne, the owner and trainer, owns the gym and really cares about his clients. He is all about the "results" as he says and you can tell he isn't lying. Many of his clients are very happy with him and you can tell they have made tremendous progress. I can't wait to get to my body goals with his help. Even better he has flexible hours to fit everyone's schedule.

I never loved the idea of someone hovering over me one-on-one while I struggled to lift 50 pounds over my head. That's exactly why Rebel's semi-private training model has worked so well for me. Typically, there's one trainer working with about 3-5 people, which creates the perfect balance of guidance, independence, and motivation. Some days it even turns into a one-on-one session depending on attendance -- but even then, it never feels like the awkward, overly intense private training I've experienced elsewhere. If you want constant hovering, Rebel may not be your thing (though they do offer private sessions). But if you're skeptical of gyms or trainers and want a smart, supportive middle ground, this place is incredible. What really keeps me coming back is how every single session is different. I've been training here for over a year and I've never repeated the same workout. The creativity and thought behind the programming is impressive and keeps me motivated to stay consistent and continue building strength. Kevin has been phenomenal. He somehow knows exactly what my body needs -- it's almost telepathic. Whether it's addressing weaknesses, building strength, or adapting to how I'm feeling that day, he's always spot-on. Recently, I pulled my back doing something as simple as bending over to put something in my daughter's backpack, and I knew a Rebel session would help loosen things up and get me back on track (and prevent that dreaded "about to sneeze" back pain ). I also really appreciate how respectful they are of time. I can say, "Kevin, I've only got 40 minutes," and he'll say, "Perfect -- let's go," get me out in 30, and I feel just as good as I would after an hour session. That flexibility is huge. The gym owners are very approachable, kind and know how to run a busines, yet maintain a family feel. Last night, after a long day at school and cheering at her high school football game for two hours, my daughter said, "I wish I had Just Cheer practice tonight."
