The gym is dirty and poorly managed. The stairmill machines and their tv units are most often broken - and stay broken for weeks or months before being fixed. The staff usually seems surprised when it is pointed out that the machines are broken. Or they will say "we are waiting for a repairman" to fix the machines. Repairs shouldn't take weeks/months. Today I was told that none of the stairmill tvs (5 of 6 have been broken for months) will be fixed until sometime "before the end of the year when the equipment is upgraded". read more

This is one of the better planet fitness locations... however, within the Syracuse area this location is in the middle of the the 5 or so.. The chain itself is really good for a good workout at a clean facilty. This location has all machine operational almost all the time..well run. read more

my home gym is the poughkeepsie location, but thank god for my black card! the kingston location is much nicer!!! all of the equipment is much more up to date (more modern looking, no rusty machines, etc). big beautiful mirrors, lots of space; this gym is at least twice even three times bigger than the pk one, and they have multiple of every machine and different equipment that pk doesnt have. no shade at pk - there are a ton of planet fitnesses in dutchess county, so it makes sense that the kingston one would be so large (as it is the only planet fitness in ulster county). i will definitely come back when i'm in the area and maybe even make the trip out here for a more equipped gym side note- there is always rumors of s*x trafficking, i never heard any allegations around this gym in particular but there's been rumors of trafficking all over the 845 including kingston so be safe at gyms & in public! read more

On 5/31, while I was getting undressed to take a shower, I heard someone on what I thought was a cellphone call in the locker room. I turned and discovered that the person was on a video chat, as I saw a Caucasian female, early-mid twenties, with dark blonde to light brown hair, talking and being displayed on the video screen that was pointed at me. I confronted the person, who replied: "Chill, I can do this. I work here, and if you don't like it, you can talk to my manager." At first I thought, "You can't be serious." I reported the incident to the Assistant Manager, who was extremely polite and respectful. On 6/1, I received a phone call from the Manager (Mike) who verbally apologized for the incident, stated it was an HR issue, and gave no clear indication of a course of action (although he did say, they would "step up monitoring of the locker rooms, but one wonders exactly what that would look like when it is an employee who was on a video call in a locker room), no timeline, nor could give any example of what a possible consequence for what videoing someone in a locker room without their permission would look like. On 6/2, less than 48 hours after the incident, the employee was behind the front desk. On 6/5, I contacted Planet Fitness Corporate for clarification of policies. I was informed by S, that phone calls were ONLY allowed in the reception area, and that camera and video equipment were forbidden in the locker room. I was also informed that the majority of Planet Fitness locations were owned and operated by franchises, and Planet Fitness did not have day to day authority over their operations (paraphrased). On 6/7, I received a second call from Mike, informing me that some (mystery to me) action was taken, but the employee would be keeping his job. I asked that my membership be canceled. I look back at the initial incident, and all I can think is that the employee was right. An employee at the Kingston, NY Planet Fitness can be on a video call while in the locker room, while people are changing. You can talk to the manager, and you will have no tangible proof that anything was done. read more

You kind of get what you pay for here. Complained many times about the headset jacks not working on the bikes. All I got was a lot of excuses. One manager even told me "it just wasn't cost effective to repair them." Now the WIFI has been out for over a week, They say because so many people are using it, their front desk computers get slowed down, so they need to create another network entirely for customers... Really? Like this is a big surprise to them? ...and they say "it's out of our control, we have to wait for the maintenance man to put in another router.." The TV's all have garbage info-mercials, so WIFI is kind of essential if you like to occupy yourself on the aerobic machines. This place is not big on the customer service, maintenance of machines and care of the facilities, locker rooms, etc. Once I had to complain about the dried splattered feces in the men's stall. That took days to get resolved. At 10 bucks a month, don't expect much. read more

We have belonged to this gym and exercised wearing masks throughout the pandemic. But today we canceled our membership and will not return because the majority of the young employees were maskless, and many of those exercising were not wearing masks. I asked an employee why all of a sudden were they failing to enforce the mask policy and he arrogantly replied that the masks mandate was unconstitutional and that Planet Fitness believed in freedom. Very political and rude. Another considerate employee, who was wearing a mask, helped us to cancel our memberships. The manager Max is fresh out of diapers and beyond unprofessional. He prefers to keep his head down when he walks and would rather stare at a monitor rather than address major issues. There have been 5 locker break-ins recently. Some suggestions: When your locker is broken into here the first thing, of course, is to notify management. They can do nothing. But do it anyway. Next--contact the Ulster County Sheriff to report the incident. (845) 338-3640 Make sure you get an 8 digit case number from them. Having the case number gets you a free license replacement at the DMV. Without the case number you will charged a fee for a replacement license. Before using the Planet Fitness lockers make sure to make photo copies of all credit cards etc. You will need account numbers when you report these items stolen. Contact your credit card companies ASAP to report your stolen cards. Stay safe. read more

I am totally disappointed in PF. I've been a member for over 3 years. On Monday while I was exercising, someone broke into my locker (combination lock) and stole my phone and wallet. Courtney at the front desk was wonderful in helping me out. I called the police to start a police report only to be told there had been 4 other robberies recently. When I went back today I discover that there was another one on the same day I was robbed. They won't put up signs in the locker room alerting people of the situation which I'm not happy about. Members should be told about these incidents. I reached out to their corporate office only to be referred to the franchise owner. Crickets! Keep your valuable items on your body with an exercise wallet or belt. DO NOT LEAVE valuables in the lockers. Remember - you get what you pay for! read more

All gyms are relatively the same in my opinion. The only two things that narrow them down are cleanliness and service. I'd say that this place is kept very clean. I can't remember any time where I was actually disgusted with its appearance. One thing that does aggravate me about this place is that I always seem to find myself going from treadmill to treadmill looking for a TV with a working headphone jack. (Each aerobic machine has a personal TV mounted in front of it.) Another thing that bothers me is that I always seem to pick the locker that the naked guy is standing next to when I return to get my stuff. That's not the fault of the gym though. Just my ordinary, everyday bad luck. Prices are pretty much the gym standard. The usual annual fee followed by the $20 a month membership for the black card. They also have a $10 a month membership called the white card. The difference being that the white card doesn't include tanning, they miss out on the merchandise discounts, and are limited to the gym they sign up with. Where as the black card members can go to any Planet Fitness gym. Service is very friendly and they enforce their gym rules very well. Making it an enjoyable experience for every member. Although I haven't been here in a while, I do enjoy this gym. read more

Crowding: 5. I came on a Sunday afternoon which can be crazy at some locations and it was really nice and quite. Weights: 5. Good space and not crowded. They had the ankle straps I like to use, and an actual squat rack so you don't have to use the stupid attached/assisted thing to do squats and lifts. Also I did not get the weird clan feeling that I get at some PF where groups of guys take over areas and make you weird for even being there. Stretching area: 4. Enough space for several people to use at the same time, and slightly tucked away so you don't feel like the whole gym is staring at your ass when you're doing your downward dogs. Not a 5 because there's no mirror to check out your form. Machines and treadmills: n/a. I don't know. I don't use that crap. Locker room: 4. Clean bathroom and shower and lots of lockers. But it has a very open layout. I'm very comfortable with my body and change next to my locker, but it's nice to have nooks and corners so you don't feel like the entire locker room has front row tickets to your tatas. And conversely don't have everyone else's tatas in your line of sight. Overall vibes: 4. Very pleasant. Helpful staff. Respectful patrons. Wasn't bothered by anyone and was able to get my sweat on without harassment. read more

I love this place. I was never a big fan of exercise - and my body was (still is) proof of that. But Planet Fitness Kingston has turned my mind and heart around. I love their posted mission statement and wish that sign was posted in every elementary schoolroom in the country. The Miron location is clean, the music provides and ambient energy without encroaching on your own reading, counting, meditating or whatever you're inclined to do there. But the reason I'm writing today is because the management at this location has been incredibly responsive to the only complaint I ever had: the water fountains sucked. The water was warm and there was not enough pressure to reach anyone's mouth without having to hit your chin on the fountain tray. Within two weeks of my complaint, the water is cold and as high as an elephant's eye. :-) To be fair, the management knew about the water fountains before I complained (nicely, I hope), but customer feedback is truly welcomed and, in this case, I think it helped the management convince the big guys to do the right thing. In short - too late for that, I know - I love this place. I love the price. And I love their mission. read more

Corporate doesn't pay the staff nearly enough, $13 an hour, leading to poor retention, and poor service from some. (Most of the line staff are awesome however, with a positive attitude and friendly demeanor). This week was 4th time this year an employee was a no call no show so gym didn't open leaving members who show up in early morning, yet again stranded. (This time it was actually two employees who didn't show smh) So management's solution until new overnight can be hired and trained, they cut the gyms hours opening at 5a and closing at 10p. That's not why we are members, we signed up for 24/7 because of our work and family schedules. I have a gym 10 minutes from me with those limited hours, I drive half an hour to get to PF for the hours and the unbeatable morning crowd of regulars. Management needs to step up and cover those shifts. Unfortunately this will happen again until they shift to true 24/7, 7 days a week. Like I said, largely a corporate issue for paying below what any other business in the area pays, but management should be filling in. That's what they signed up for, it their center, be responsible, and consider your members. read more

Planet Fitness is the Walmart of gym chains.. The shades of purple and yellow together in the same room is bad enough, and I find it to be more of an aerobic facility than anything. No doubt the monthly fee is unbeatable and I understand profit margins, but the equipment is too basic and could be a bit more varied. read more

The only positives to this location are that the staff are usually friendly (if not entirely unhelpful) and the gym is hardly ever actually busy. Their busiest times still see anywhere from half to a quarter of the machines being used, and there's never any line to use a specific piece of equipment. But oh man, do the negatives outweigh the positives. Even if you don't have to fight for a machine, you DO have to fight for a machine that actually, 100% works. None of the headphone jacks on any of the machines work- which might sound like a big problem, but it really isn't, because almost none of the TVs work, either. You have to walk around the gym three times and test all the machines to make sure the remote works, to make sure you can either turn the TV on, or change the channel, or turn on closed captions (because remember, you can't hear the TV, because the headphone jacks don't work).Maybe that's not a big deal to some, but come on. You can't advertise free TV to go along with each membership if maybe 30% of the machines actually work. Complaining to a staff member doesn't fix anything, because you can say something one day and by a week later, nothing has been fixed. It's frustrating to waste 20 minutes before a workout just to find a machine that you can watch TV on while you get your cardio in. So sure, the staff is friendly and it's quiet. But I'd rather have a gym with next to no staff where I can actually go in, grab any machine, and get my workout done. Management should heavily consider shutting down for a day or two just to figure out which machines actually work and which ones need to be fixed. Any potential lost profit will be returned when you don't lose potential members because nothing works. read more

The price isn't bad. I do have a few complaints though... The hours would be better if they were 24/7 not 24/5. I've seen quite a few members not clean machines after they use them. The 30 minute circuit is NOT monitored by staff like the signs state. Members just do what they want and keep using the same machine over and over when I'm trying to do the circuit properly! Members should also just be able to scan their own membership card so we can go workout right away not wait for staff to do it. One day I had to wait 10 minutes for one of the staff to sign us in because I had a guest and he wanted to scan everyone else in. We were first in line!!! I plan on canceling my membership of course they don't make it easy for you to do that. read more

Even after just 4 weeks it has been a big help. By the way, there are less naked guys at 5: AM!!! By the way, the TV Audio jacks still don't work with newer ear plugs. They need to be Upgraded to the smaller jack. The ear plugs I have are for an Apple iPod. That is the reason they don't work in a standard stereo jack. I'll just have go without the TV ads and listen to my iPod tells me to Burn the Fat so I will feel better later. read more

This place advertises itself as having towards women and womens issues. For example, it is considered rude to grunt while exercising or to harrass other people there. However there are often men in the womens bathroom, ostensibly cleaning but in fact wandering in and out of what should be womens space. Women shower, (un)dress and use the toilet there and should not have to encounter a male; this is creepy and inappropriate. Have they no female cleaners to assign to the ladies' room? If so, why don't they hire one? This seems completely out of keeping with their stated identity, values and philosophy. read more

But between the chipmunk pounding her feet on the treadmill right next to me hanging on for dear life at a 10 incline and the massively squeaky one to the other side it was a totally awful experience. Just know before you hand them your banking info that they only take directly from your bank account and you can't quit paying on their web site or even over the phone. Only in person, "for security reasons". They make it purposely as difficult as possible because they make their money off the fact that people will just keep forgetting to cancel that small monthly fee.
