Out and about running errands, I decided it was time to get a workout in. This isn't my home club, but the Black Card makes it simple to drop into any Planet Fitness in the network. Parking was easy in the large strip mall lot. I even noticed another RV tucked off to the side and wondered if they were staying overnight. I'm not in mine today, but it's something to keep in mind for future trips. Inside, it was a quick scan of my membership and straight to the locker room. This is a big facility with plenty of stair steppers and treadmills all lined up facing a wall of televisions. After changing out of street clothes and into workout gear, I stretched a bit and then spent some time on the treadmill watching a Law & Order episode before moving on to curls and lifts. There's enough equipment here to make everything feel easy and comfortable. Back in the locker room, I grabbed a quick shower. The changing cabin was roomy, and the shower had lots of hot water, though the pressure dipped now and then when a toilet flushed. Shelf space was limited for a razor and other things, but still better than some PFs I've used. I wrapped up in the Black Card spa, which was a comfortable place to wind down and check my phone before heading out. I'm not a tanning bed person, and one of these days I really will try the hydrochair. And with an appetite building, it was time for lunch. This planet fitness is huge in space but they would use more equipment. They have too many treadmills and ellipticals (they could utilize that space for more non cardio equipment). The upside of them having too many treadmills is you'll find one available because about half of them don't work. The locker room is clean and big too. read more

I've been living in Charlotte coming to this location planet fitness sporadically for about a decade now, it's down the block from my job. I work 3rd shift overnights so best times to go tanning for me is usually overnights. A darker, bigger sized gentleman probably a couple inches under 6 feet with dreads just gave off attitude the few minutes i was in this location. Mind u; i dropped one of my two phones & said "ah idc they release the same model iPhone every year it doesn't matter". Another person checks in and im waiting my turn. I see the other scanners are help behind the counter & verbalized my observation. He asked me with an attitude "are u ok u sure u havin a good day". I answered his question with the same question he asked me. Almost as if he was furious i made him get up from sitting down & check me into the lay down tanning bed??? I don't even work out here, i work out at my job & for my hobbies. It was just an overall weird energy, interaction & encounter to be honest to the point I'm never coming here on 3rd shift EVER AGAIN. I just wanna avoid the BS, so much i don't even work out in planet fitness gyms. I haven't worked out in a public mainstream gym since LA Fitness in 2011.... I think some employees said his name was George JR but idk man. Just overall off for less than the half hour i was there (12 minutes tanning, 5 min. Max checkin in & leaving this location). Signed up at the Central location. What a Dump. Not expecting miracles but how hard is it to keep the place clean? Mens locker room disgusting. no where to hang anything. Bathroom stalls, shower stalls nothing. I mean as a manager send an employee to dollar tree to buy a soap/bottle holder. Only $1.25. So I switch to Matthews location. Same Sh*t Show. Mens accessible shower broken for a month. Its a $5.00 part to replace. Always lots of people at the desk doing nothing, how about sweeping the S%&t up on the floor? Running a mop? Using a deck brush to clean the mens locker room? Hell my Mcdonalds stop in the morning for a coffee smells like cleaning solution and is clean you can see it!!! I wanted to come to Yelp and say that during this time of COVID, I have really missed my home club of Planet Fitness. The Coronation PF has some really great employees that were always kind to me when I arrived. This location has so many options for cardio and weights that it's super rare to have to wait for any machine or set of dumbbells. People mostly mind their own business and I can get a good workout in on my terms without being hassled. I look forward to this PF reopening -- I'll be using the tanning beds, the massage chairs, the stair climber, and the lat pulldown machine to celebrate when we can safely return. read more

Walked in expecting to be able to workout, purchased my black card about a month ago. Haven't been able to come by to workout yet, things have been extremely busy, so I showed up today finally to find that my black card wasn't even showing up or on my account, when I had it activated. I know that for a fact it was activated on my planet fitness app. The two rude, and unfriendly ladies working the front desk told me I didn't have a membership, even though my name and phone number was in the system. They told me I needed a photo ID, which I only had a copy of my school ID and my debit card. They would not accept either, and proceeded to accuse me of showing up at the "wrong gym" telling me that "oh it looks like you live in Monroe, maybe you meant to visit that gym instead of the matthews one?" Like no, I knew where I was going honey. huh? the disrespect. I will not be coming back here and am currently looking for a new, FRIENDLY-staffed gym. read more

I joined this gem to simply go with a friend of mine, I have another gym membership with a gym that I like better personally that is a lot more convenient for where I live so after my friend quit going 10 months into starting my membership, I come back to the location as I see that they have withdrawn 39 and $22 out of my account and the Amanda and Richard front desk representatives both look up my account and tell me that I am some type of guest account which makes no sense because they are pulling money out of my account. I tell them whatever type of membership or whatever is going on I want canceled even if I have to pay some type of termination fee or something like that. They refused to cancel my membership stating that I am not allowed to cancel my membership there. This literally makes no sense at all bad they make it almost impossible to cancel Your membership at a location when you have been going there the entire time. Long story short I had to flag all of the transactions with my bank as fraud to be able to cancel this membership In response to you on this as it will not let me post another comment or anything. That is 100% not true. I called the corporate office and they informed me that I had to go to the location to cancel, and I went to the location that I always go to and they said I cannot cancel my membership there that they don't have the ability to cancel it which is bullshit. Once they have your check card number, you can't escape their death grip on your $10 a month. Our family decided to join the YMCA because we needed the childcare and more flexibility, and I had to change my credit card number to get them to stop debiting my account. We went through the proper procedures (going in with a letter and turning in the key fobs), but they "lost the paperwork" and wanted us to come back in again. They refused to issue a refund for the debits that they made after we'd attempted to cancel, and were generally nasty about the whole process. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. read more

Planet Fitness is the best $10 I spend in a month. Weights, Treadmills, Ellipticals, Aerobic Equipment, Classes, Pizza, its all here! PF calls themselves the "no judgement zone"-so the staff doesn't chide you because of how you work out. They don't allow bodybuilders or their hard-core behavior; they sound an alarm if you drop a weight or grunt. To prove that its not your typical gym, PF has pizza parties on Monday evenings. The best time to go is in the morning or after the evening rush (8:30 PM-Whenever). Otherwise, its hard to get to the weights. PF is open 24 hours during the week and closes early on Saturdays and Sundays. The people who use the gym aren't too sketch either, they don't allow doo-rags or cut off shirts. Sure, their are guys strutting around, but most folks of us are too busy jamming on our I-pods to "admire" them. read more

$10/month? Yep, it's for real! I love the "Judgment Free Zone" attitude and the LUNK alarm (never actually witnessed it going off but oh I'm sure that would be a riot). Large gym with at least 20 ellipticals, 20 treadmills, 20 bikes. Weight floor with hand weights and dumbbells of every size, along with weight machines. There is an upper level that has open floor for use of exercise balls or other exercises, and then there is the 30 minute circuit workout with stations for a great full-body workout. LOVE THIS GYM and recommend to everyone--I can always get on the machine I want to without having to wait, and there are SO MANY options. It's clean (and SMELLS clean, which is a HUGE plus for a gym), and the machines are in excellent working order. There are flat screens EVERYWHERE and you can hook your headphones up to the machine you're using and listen to the channel of your choice. I have never felt uncomfortable in this gym like I have at others--there are LOTS of females (it's a great gym for the ladies!), and the staff is very friendly. No body builders or other hard-core workout junkies, this gym is definitely designed for the average person who just wants to exercise and enjoy themselves while they are at it! read more

My mom has has success here, she's been going for a year and paid $10 each month. She's healthy and happy and she feels comfortable here. I went here for the 3 months of summer and I did not like it. The staff turnover is insane and many of the staff members tended to get a little smart with my mom and I when we ask simple questions. other than that, the equipment is clean and it works, and the people seem to be normal, not crazy workout zombies. I love the concept. I am kinda chubby and had never really worked out. I tried a couple of other gyms, like Peak, and remember just feeling extremely self conscious that I wasn't lifting 1000lbs and other crap. So I went once or twice and stopped going. Planet Fitness is NOTHING like that. Their No Lunks policy is awesome. Becky and I usually go during lunch to do the 30 minute workout. Clean place. Equipment is good. Employees spend 90% of their day behind the counter texting. The rules are you can't talk on your phone or lay around on the equipment and text but since that's what the workers do then the customers do whatever they please. It might be cheap but do you really want to save a buck or work out. Don't go to the Y they are worse and not cheap. read more

I've been going to this PF location for several years now and find it to be a perfectly fine place to work out. It's cheap, clean and not very crowded at the times that I go. Is it perfect? No, but for the price I can't complain. I find the staff friendly enough and never rude. Now that you can scan your own card there's really not much need for personal interaction anyway. Best pf I've been to no one bothers u and it's one that's pretty big. But I would say one night there was literally no paper towels left I had to go ask for someone to refill and to me I felt like he gave me an attitude it was like a yea I know already. I hate that I have resorted to post this on social media. I really do. But I've stopped into your "gym" to talk and was turned away and told I will continue to be charged to do my contract, and I contacted your corporate HQ with no response. A month or so ago, I learned first-hand that your so-called "judgement-free zone" is only judgement-free if you fit a certain type of physical profile. I've been a Planet Fitness member for almost year now, using your facilities primarily as a place to walk on the treadmill during my lunch break to get away from my desk. Despite the fact that it is a gym, I've never gone to Planet Fitness to "work-out" until then (when my primary gym temporarily closed) and I never will again. Why? Because in your "judgement-free zone," my friends and I have never felt so judged in our lives. Literally, having the discussion of "trying not to set off the Lunk alarm" and respecting your rules and other members, I can say with confidence that we were more than respectful and tried hard not to stand out among the other patrons. They didn't seem to mind us, and in fact, were friendly for the most part. Unfortunately, however, your staff went out of their way to let us know we don't fit in. Myself and two others were in the dumbbell area sharing one of the many benches. While my boyfriend was spotting me, a Planet Fitness employee who was in the middle of giving a tour to a prospective couple, literally brought the couple over with her to tell him to pick up some dumbbells, too. Puzzled and not knowing what to think, he explained we were in a rotation and each taking turns. She replied, "We cant have people thinking you're a trainer. You have to pick some up too." Again, we explained the three of us were taking turns and he was, in fact, lifting as often as each of us. We were all there to mind our own business and get a workout in. Her response: "Well ya'll don't look like everyone else in here! " So let me get this straight- because we actually LIFT the weights YOU provide, and our bodies are a reflection of this, it somehow may intimidate the other members?! Heaven forbid our hard work may actually motivate them- could you imagine?! People going to the gym AND seeing results?! I'm fully educated and well-aware of your business model. It's not to help people achieve their fitness goals and live a healthier life (obviously, with free Pizza, Bagels and candy for your members), but it's to sell memberships by the boatload. Please forgive me for wrongly assuming that members who pay actually use your equipment- no matter what they look like, or what their ability is. When I see an overweight or disabled person at the gym, do you know what I think? -"Good for them!" and I often go out of my way to encourage them or tell them how inspiring they are. I fully believe we are all in this together and should be cheerleaders to help others achieve their best. It's unfortunate that the three of us who used your facility for its "intended" purpose, were made to feel out of place, and even worse, judged. By the way, one of your "normal looking" members who you were protecting, forgot to turn her flash off before she decided to sneak a picture of us while we were walking out. I find it interesting to know this behavior is acceptable but actually working out and minding our own business at your "gym" is not. I've tried to cancel my membership twice now and have been turned away or ignored. I'm hoping this open letter may help draw some necessary attention to the extremely poor customer service and treatment we received. read more

I've been going here for about 5 years... the gym is really clean and the staff is great! However, there rules are ridiculous and not fairly told to everyone at the gym. Over the years they've told me that I "slam the weights" while on the smith machine or the lat pull down or any machine". I get their whole "no gymtidation or whatever" but how am I supposed to lightly and gently put down 180 lbs when I'm doing the last pulldown or squatting 285 lbs. I'm not intentionally slamming weights, their grunt rule is ridiculous too. Breathing in hard is different then grunting. I also told today that I couldn't use my weight belt for pull-ups. That's where I got the most bothered because there's no liability to the gym whatsoever. We all sign a waiver that clears planet fitness from any liability if you get injured. It's my belt and I accept the risk! This company says that it welcome everyone but it really doesn't. If you are actually serious about the gym and want to see progress and be motivated then this gym is not for you. If you want to eat pizza or bagels once a month and just wanna walk and watch tv the whole time and don't really care about your health then yeah planet fitness is a good start.. This location is a good gym, I just hate the rules and how you are picked on the smallest things if you are actually serious about the gym. Why should other people care about what I do? I'm there to workout and achieve my goals, not to critique others and say "oh that shirt is too tight, or his gallon of water intimidates me" everyone should just focus on themselves, we all have to start somewhere so no need to worry about what others are doing. As long as you are clear about what you are getting, this gym is great. They have plenty of equipment (though I do wish they had dumbbells that went up in 2.5 lb. increments instead of just 5 lbs.) and it is pretty much always working. They do a great job keeping the place clean. Every time I go in during the afternoon I see the staff cleaning the bathroom, the floors and the equipment. Heck, I even saw them cleaning the TV's that hang from the ceiling once. The clientele also are very good about wiping down equipment after they use it. No real worries about getting MRSA here. The gym temp is also nice and comfortable. What you you don't get at this gym, or any other PF for that matter is childcare, classes, or a real personal trainer. The personal training they offer is not on par with the kind you get when you pay for it. However, theirs is free and I guess you get what you pay for. Their trainer will give you a basic workout based on sound research and show you how to do any exercises you are not familiar with. They will also give you a brief talk about nutrition, which if you have read up on nutrition you probably already know (multiple small meals, high protein and fiber, lots of water, etc.). They will not work with you and encourage you on multiple days, they do not check in with your progress, and they do not design nutritional plans. They also don't allow he-man weightlifting behavior. No grunting, yelling, or dropping weights. I also thought this was a marketing gimmick but I just joined another gym because I needed childcare where they do allow this behavior. Let's just say it is bizarre to be working out between two guys who are grunting and throwing weights (and they not even lifting that heavy). I miss PF. For guys who can move a lot of weight they do have plate limits so check into this. Basically, if you want to look like the Rock, this is not the gym for you. If you want something a little lower key where you do not feel bad for having more than 10% body fat, PF is perfect. read more

I really love the convenience of this gym. It is around the corner from my house, not even 5 minutes away. I also love the fact that I can go at anytime of the day... whether its 6am or 10pm. That is what makes exercise work for me... when it is convenient. I have never gone, even at its busiest of hours and never had to wait for a machine. The staff has always been polite to me. (3.5 stars) This is my "home" facility but as a black card member I often travel to many locations across the area depending where work takes me. This is one of the larger facilities I have been in but I also believe it's one of the oldest. I have been going here since 2011 and the roof still leaks when it rains...they recently redid flooring and got some new equipment and treads, the elliptical a are the oldest of any facility I have been too but to be honest I prefer the older style.. No wifi like most facilities... Having said all that being healthy is expensive, for only 10$ a month you get unlimited gym access is absurdly cheap these days, throw in the friendly staff and freebies like bagel morning and pizza night make this a steal of a deal and good place... It's not the nicest place but it has that homely "avg joes" appeal and it'll always be my "home"...location. read more

I completely agree with john; the staff is absolutely TERRIBLE. Esp the gm. I love planet fitness but loathe the staff. They make mountains out of mole hills and don't make accommodations easy; instead they demean and intimidate as a sales gimik...doesn't work. I loved the relaxed attitude that I've seen at every planet fitness except for this one. In fact i changed my membership to another bc of this staffs attitude but the drive it just too far. Not sure why the bad reviews...been coming here on and off for years and never had a bad experience. I've never seen a machine that broke, sit for many days...these updated themselves quite regularly and added hydro massage chairs and I watch everyone work hard to keep the gym clean. read more

First of all, speaking as a former member, planet fitness is the lamest franchise of gyms I've ever attended. That being said, I was told on the phone there was a $5 dollar day fee to workout as a non-member which I thought was very reasonable since I'm from out of town. Then, when I arrived, was told all they offered was a $20 day pass. I'd rather play a round of roshambo with Lionel Messi than pay planet fitness $20 to workout an hour and a half so thanks "Cory" for telling me the wrong price and wasting my time. Where should I start? When I first joined this gym it was very orderly, people worked out in the areas designed for that activity. But now after almost 2 years, people pretty much do what they want to do. Free weights are taken all over the place. Weights on machines are moved to other machines and not returned. Some employees yell and talk to other employees and members across the room distracting those trying to work out. People are talking on their phones everywhere without concern that it is very annoying to those that follow the rules. I used to hear the Lunk Alarm from time to time. Haven't heard it in months. What I hear now is equipment being slammed, benches being moved and dropped and people talking on their phones while walking or working out next to me. Leadership starts at the top and I hope management gets back to work enforcing their rules. read more

I am a new member and I just read the first review on this site posted by Bridget B, My first impression of her long story was that about 99.9 % of what she wrote was not true and distorted. She is obviously a miserable person and has nothing else going on in here life but to post long negative reviews on social media..I believe every experience is what you make it..Bridget B mentioned that Planet Fitness had pizza and bagels for members and that they were not concerned about healthy members by offering this..Really Bridget B? Maybe we like pizza and bagels on occasion after all if we're working out daily then we can splurge occasionally. To all new members like myself, don't make judgement based on these reviews. After all, you're only hearing one side of the story, I am not an employee and have no financially investments in Planet Fitness, I just joined last week and I am offended that another member's experience ruins it for all.
