I have been through enough gyms. Golds was great until it went to 425 Fitness. La Fitness was okay-ish until Covid happened. Lifetime is super bougie and nice but could use a bigger weight area. If you're looking to take gym insta-pics for "fitspo" or bro and brood out, this isn't the place This gym is old-school perfection. It has weights. Like real iron weights. It makes you take responsibility for cleaning up after yourself and not drop weights like an idiot. The gym has all the essentials you need to do what you need for weight training, weight loss, etc. No frills, no bs. Gloria has been impeccable. I believe she is the owner (?) but don't quote me on this. It's a big gym with a small feel. No big corporate nonsense, no pressure. If you've ever been to a gold's gym and went there to do work, you'll appreciate it here. I love having real weights. I love seeing the machines that help you achieve what you seek. No fancy: here today, gone tomorrow machines, gadgets or hype. You get out what you put into yourself. I can't say enough good about this place. Cons: -No WiFi for video streaming (although I could be wrong on this, I haven't clarified with the owner). -No towel service. -No showers (working out before work means going somewhere else to shower or change). -Sets the standard for other gyms to match a little high. What you will find is lots of barbells, dumbbells, chalk, loud music and the occasional scream/grunt while someone breaks a PR. All of the members are very supportive and it's not uncommon to hear cheers and support from onlookers as you push yourself to your limits. The owner is a great guy and a fantastic trainer/coach if you're looking for those services as well. This gym will help you become the strongest possible version of yourself and I can't recommend it enough.

I am lifting more than I ever imagined I could at 31 let alone 51. I am strong, more flexible, with better endurance than I have ever been in my life. The gym members are very diverse and the format means it is never crowded and you have your own space. The best part are the coaches. They each bring a perspective that helps you grow in your training. Also they are just really great, fun people. I sometimes go in tired and having a stressful day, but I always leave happy and more tired, usually with noodle arms.

If you aren't part of the regulars, you're largely ignored. I tried to spark conversations, but it was clear that I was not welcomed by the "regulars". The trainer of the session was very kind, but didn't really explain the terminology of CrossFit for me. So I spent most of my time trying to understand just what I was supposed to be doing. Lastly, I just don't enjoy the "competitiveness" of the classes. It's more about people beating each other's score than it is about self growth. Mind you: I'm an avid fitness enthusiast. I have been working out for over 10 years. I know what I'm doing inside of a gym. I also have been to gym classes. And, by comparison, other gyms have had a far friendlier and inviting atmosphere. Trainers have gone out of their way to introduce newcomers to regulars to help grow their community. This gym seems to cater to the regulars above all else. Sadly, I won't be back. I gave it three classes, but it was the same thing every time. I give it 2 stars because the attitude of the trainers were pleasant. I had been on a kettlebell team and was missing the camaraderie and group exercise atmosphere. This really has filled that gap in my life. Emerge is such a supportive, lively environment and a great workout. You can get a punch card for group classes so it's easy to give it a try without a big commitment.
