Okay, so one of my all time favorite things to do is eat, in fact I'm hungry right now! But another one of my favorite things is being fit. Being active duty, I have free access to all base gyms, but the closest base gym to me is Portsmouth, and the tunnel toll in itself deters me from going there. I normally drive about 20-30mins away to Norfolk, Little Creek, or Oceana base, to use the gym facilities, but one day I was driving home from a Wal-Mart run, and noticed a huge yellow and Purple Planet Fitness gym. I was thinking, "that wasn't there before...hmmm, only a few miles away from my house, a low cost of $10 monthly (basic membership), or $22 (black card), w/a yearly $40 maintenance fee? Not bad..." I decided to check it out. I walked inside and the first thing I noticed was that it didn't smell like a dirty gym bag, and it was no kidding SPARKLING CLEAN. The front desk clerks are very helpful, answered my questions, and are continuously walking around cleaning, cleaning, and cleaning some more. They go in. They wipe down the entire machines from top to bottom multiple times a day. I decided that this gym was the right I guess I would say, "supplemental" gym for me. It has plenty of cardio, and weights machines, and a neat thing is, when you are doing cardio... you can plug your earphones into the machines and watch 1 of the 8 pre-set channels of TV they have hanging up in the air. HGTV is the reason why I can be on cardio machines for HOURS (I can't stop my cardio until I know what house they picked, or how it looked once the house chosen was renovated)!!! Plus, it saves battery on your phone once you are ready to do resistance training and stretching. Okay, onto the locker room. The female locker room is always clean and smelling fresh, and there are plenty of different sized lockers to choose from, as well as dressing rooms, bathrooms, sinks, and showers with good water pressure. I like the fact that there is one shower that is handicap friendly complete with a seat and a movable shower rod. I liked this gym so much, and decided to bring my husband in to check it out. I was able to sign him up as a guest but then was told later on that I have to have an upgraded membership. I feel that that should have been stated when I initially brought him in the first place. But oh well, they said he has to get his own $10 member ship, or I pay and extra $12 a month to bring him as a guest. Interesting...have to think about this one. Overall, I think that this gym hits the spot in ALL aspects. I love how ridiculously clean and spotless it is, the Planet Fitness staff, equipment, locker rooms, setup of equipment and abs stations, and price! I would definitely recommend this gym (at least this location), to everyone. read more

The only reason why this Planet Fitness is getting 2 stars is because the worthless employee, that has worked both times I went to the gym, motivated me through anger and frustration. Granted the few broken machines, and water fountain is not his fault, surely he can take the time to get off the phone to replace the paper towel dispenser and a couple trash bins. Wouldn't hurt to sweep all the hair and cough drop wrappers off the floor either. read more

I haven't run into crowds at this location. I go between 3-6 and i Always find the equipment I want empty if not, the weight isn't too bad. I will say the equipment is better than most planets I've been too but I would like to see more leg machines and more stair masters. Compared to the 4 they have to the infinite treadmills. Don't get me wrong the have a few leg machines but seen other locations multiple machines for the flow of traffic. I've seen things about lighting in the reviews and i honestly can't tell, there are huge windows along the entrance and bucket lights throughout I'm not much of a lighting person, so idc about how much light when Theres enough to see what I'm doing to get my workout in and leave. The locker rooms are nicer and than I've seen at other locations. Staff is nice and helpful. read more

I got the customer best service from Zaire and I always get a great workout in here for about 2-3 hours a day

New location that opened up this week! It wasn't packed when I went on day 2 of grand opening. Staff said probably bc not too many people know about this location yet. My first experience was so-so. The staff did not show me around the facility, So I took my own tour of the place to see where everything was. The facility itself is not as big as I thought it would be from the outside and from the other locations. You have the basic machines like elliptical, treadmills, steppers, bike machine, ab machines, and a few free weights. I haven't tried the classes yet, but when I asked about the classes and how to join, the staff were clueless. I think Planet Fitness is a gym where you go in and basically do your own thing. No Zumba, no cardio class, basketball court, etc... For $10 month I guess this is what you get access to using machines only. *UPDATE- There aren't no classes! The classes I saw on the flyer was if you wanted the trainer to show you some different workout moves. read more

Love this place but last week they had to take down the key holder because someone's car got stolen!!! It's not their fault they put a gym in the middle of the hood... Still an active member and I'll be here till I leave next year. They also have a beauty angel. What is that? I don't know but I like it and it makes me feel beautified. read more

Poor customer service: I went in on Friday, October 16, 2020 to cancel my membership. Nick the District Manager was assisting me. He quickly filled out the form and said, "I will email it to you". Well, when I looked at the form, it had the wrong "Request Effective Date". I asked for a paper copy in which a different associate helped me bc in the middle of my transaction Nick went to take a phone call. The associate printed out a blank form as to trick me. I waited for Nick to finish his conversation and then explained, "I would like a cancellation form with the correct date". He went around and around stating, "I cannot change the date". DO NOT JOIN THIS CLUB!!!!! They charged during Covid and took an additional $29.95 out of my account for a membership fee which I was never told about. read more

A joke. I'm visiting from tri state area. 5 desk employees can't figure out How to scan bar code. Takes 20 minutes all in group standing around. Young, not experienced. Larger Caucasian manager, a mess, sloppy Overweight finally figures out how to check me in. Gym nice, clean. Then they ask me to leave, my small purse.?...what I go to gyms all Over country, planets etc. I have no lock . So I leave. Disgraceful staff, please represent the health field you work in I'm almost 50 years old. Go to gyms my entire life. This staff is a joke. Poorly, unprofessionally ran. Good riddance. I have a graduate degree in Health. I won't step foot in here again. Good luck. read more

This is my planet fitness I go too. The staff is always nice, I have seen them assist people with questions for machines and all. There is only about one employee that seems "hard" and doesn't ever say anything when I tell him/her to have a good day. Other than that, it's clean, not too crowded, and a good gym. It isn't the full sized one, it is missing a few machines like a "Preacher curl bar machine". Overall it's a good one to use. I've been here at least 10 times and I dislike it every time. The lighting inside isn't as bright as other PF. The front door windows are always filthy. I'm not comfortable walking in at night. The front staff is professional and sweet when you engage them. Other than that, not much interaction. read more

For the value of 10 or 20 bucks you get the essentials for what you need to start you path on the way to a fitter and healthier you. The crowds can get big and sometimes annoying. This PF in particular is kind of the main hookup spot for a lot of people. It's a judge free zone but sometimes it's hard not to judge with some of the things you see. All in all like I said you have what you need to get you started and in the right path. Besides from the overwhelming crowds and people holding up machines with their conversations or phone play, it's pretty decent. read more

A nice place to workout. It is a judgement free zone. People tend to not to be in your face talking about nonsense. The crowds are manageable it's all about timing. Obviously after work between 4 and 7 is the worst for any gym. 24 hour access is outstanding. Did the 4 am a couple of time to see if it would work for me but I founded out I couldn't do it but other were in there getting it in. The staff keep the place neat and organized. They seem to be friendly they are there to help and answer questions not to hang out and chat. They balance it well. My only issue is I keep missing pizza night. Lol read more

I've been going for a few weeks now, and what I'm most impressed with is how clean it is. The bathrooms are always spotless, too (I've never used the showers, though; I live right nearby). I've never seen any machines that are out of order. The place gets busy around dinner time, but there are always machines available. I've never seen it so full that you have to wait to use the equipment. This is nothing more than a place with cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, arc trainers, stationary bikes, etc.) and weight lifting machines. There are no organized fitness classes like yoga, zumba, etc. If you're just looking for a clean place to exercise, then this will work perfectly for you. read more

So far this is my favorite Planet Fitness. The staff is always friendly. Every time I come here I'm greeted by the front desk staff. The equipment is always clean. Today I noticed an employee walking around cleaning the machines. That's not something I see at other Planet Fitness locations (Vb and in NYC) so that was a pleasant surprise. They have tons of equipment. I haven't gone there during peak hours but I can't imagine it being difficult to find a free treadmill or elliptical. They have a ton! I would totally recommend this spot to friends. read more

I love it there, its never crowded when I go and the people are nice. As far as it being in the hood..and the car getting stolen.... people steal everywhere hood or not...so that comment was not called for. Even where you are. Leave your personals out and see what happens. On another note, its cheap and so people can practice good health. Cheaper then the YMCA which is a crowded place and full of children. read more

Equipment goes down for months at a time. Locker rooms smell really bad at times. They force you to provide a bank routing number which they draft money from a week in advance. They offer the nastiest free pizza as a promotion once a month. I wouldn't feed it to my dog! read more

I've been to a few different Planet Fitness locations and this is by far the best. It looks to have been newly renovated...the ladies locker room is a sight to behold. Plenty of lockers and mirrors perfect for a gym selfie. Love the 12 minute abs area as well as an addition sepetate area for ab machines. This center has it all. Next time I visit the VA Beach area I will definately come back. read more

A few years back I was a PF member for 2 years at the Holland location since you really can't beat the price and the fact that it's 24/7. Maybe because this location is newer, but since joining over the weekend, I've noticed a HUGE difference in the equipment quality. There are now so many more treadmills and ellipticals, multiples of the same weight machines so we're no longer fighting over them and larger rooms for stretching, abs, etc. This one is right by my work so it's super convenient and although busy around 830 when I went it didn't feel like I waited for anything. Out of all the planet fitness locations I've been to this one is my favorite! I've been a member for about a year. Even during the high traffic times there are still machines available. The women's locker room is clean and I regularly see all patrons wiping down the machines after use. There are also a great variety of machines and I rarely have needed to wait to use one I wanted to use. The staff are super friendly and will acknowledge you if you're a regular gym-goer. It feels like a little community! And no one has ever made me feel judged or stared in a way that made me uncomfortable. People of all fitness levels come to this gym so for those who aren't fitness buffs, you can feel comfortable with wherever you're at. All in all a great gym! read more

We LOVE this place! We're from L.A. the land of 24-hour fitness and Equinox, where for two people you're going to pay at least $100 a month for a regular membership. We move to Hampton Roads with the full intention to pay whatever it takes to stay in shape when an old friend from the area told me about Planet Fitness and took me with her as a guest. WOWZA! $20 a month for full use of all their facilities (in any state) massage beds, chairs, tanning and more! Another plus, this place is CLEAN, by clean I mean spotless. The workers are continuously spraying down the machines, sweeping the floors, cleaning windows, the locker room never smells like sweat. Do yourself a favor and don't go to any other gym! read more

About a year ago, I moved to Virginia for work, it was only for two months. So I signed up for a planet fitness account there, and upon leaving the state, I called them to tell them I needed to cancel. The young guy that I spoke to on the phone, said that everything will be taken care of, and I should be receiving a confirmation email. I never got the confirmation email, and it's partially my fault for not reaching back out. One year later, and I am still getting charged monthly for their service. Subscription that I canceled about 10 months ago, I recently got charged a membership fee of $39, which is their yearly subscription fee. I'm not worried about all the other months, as much as I am $39. after speaking to the club manager, she specifically told me that they will not be giving me a refund, because they had no documentation on file. How convenient. I spoke to two other locations and ask them if there's anything else that I can do, including my current home location in Texas. They said that within 60 days, they can refund all charges within the last 60 days, but anything past that they cannot touch. I also called my old home location in Mobile, Alabama. And they said the same thing. The excuse in Virginia, is that they are a different franchise. So I guess some franchises don't give a crap about their customers, and therefore, will not offer any sort of a refund. I'm not trying to get my $10 back over the last year, I'm just trying to get my $39 back. Other than this issue, which is the first issue I've ever had with planet fitness, I have nothing but good things to say including this location. They apparently also reached out to the regional manager, to which the regional manager also said that they will not be giving me a refund. I remember calling him to cancel my subscription, because it was the same day that I canceled my AT&T Internet service, as well as finalizing the end of my apartment lease. But lucky for me, they have no idea what I'm talking about. read more

I have been a member at this location for only 3 weeks but I love it. My present goal is first to lose some pounds and waistline, then muscle toning. Plenty of equipment on hand for all your goals. Friendly staff. Only 2 complaints thus far. 1. the on/off touchpad is broken on the scale in the men's locker area. 2. The water fountains have little to no pressure.
