The Staff in the Norwich location is engaging and the location is very convenient for me. My concern has always been the low number of available, well working upright bikes. I would guess that there were 6 or 7 bikes with 1 or 2 not working well or out of service. Since the recent equipment upgrade, there are only 2 basic upright bikes, and one has been out of service 2 times since installation. I am age 70, in recovery mode indefiniately, with nerve issues affecting my lower body (neuropothy), and hip trouble. Non-weight-bearing excercise is what I (and others) need. We simply want to remain mobile by hopping on the bike for 30 minutes or so and keep blood flowing to our lower extremities. Treadmill is not the answer and recumbent bikes are not comfortable for the hip. The Norwich location needs more upright bikes. Most staff that I have spoken to agree. read more

The gym is fine the television news broadcasting is political. They have FOX news on two televisions and CNN on another but the audio doesn't work on that television so if you want to catch some news your option is the National Enquirer FOX news. If you are going to show any news at the gym run the gamut of news or don't show any at all. read more

Place is going downhill- no TVs or internet today. about 10 machines broken that have been broken all week and they don't fix. been going here for years and it's really getting bad. Alvin location is very clean, friendly staff, lots of cardio machines and all the machines to have a full workout. I will definite recommend the place to anybody who is looking to save money and achieve physical goals. read more

I've read a number of the reviews here and as a 1.5 year + member, I can say most of these complaints are just plain untrue. Probably orchestrated by a disgruntled buyer. The place is clean. Actually really clean. The staff is very friendly and always helpful if you ask for anything. The price is very reasonable and I wasn't charged a penny when the facility closed during COVID. I have had problems getting into and out of contracts with other gyms; never had issues with Planet Fitness. Great club all around with lots of equipment, rarely are any pieces down and if so, no more than a few days, and cleaning stations EVERYWHERE. read more

Back when the closures started in April I contacted the gym to close my account, I was told the gym was closed and the account can't be canceled until it re-opens. I was told I would get an E-mail letting me know when this happened. Back in June the gym did re-open, I was not notified in any way. I put in an online request for a refund and my account to be canceled when I saw the charge no my account, no response was received I figured the issue was resolved. I then noticed they charged my account again AND charged me an annual fee on top of it. I called and spoke to the manager of the store to explain and ask for my refund, the response I got was that I was notified that the club was opening by E-mail (I checked all folders and spam, I was not) and if I didn't see that I should have noticed the ads on TV or the billboards so no refund would be given. Well I don't watch TV so expecting me to just find a billboard as notice is absolutely ridiculous. I was told that there was no manager higher then her at the location and she refused to give me any contact information for a higher manager besides a name "Amanda" and she claimed that she would have her get back to me. UPDATE: Amanda left a message on my phone basically saying the exact same thing as the store manager no resolution there. If you are looking for a place to be judged and treated poorly then go to planet fitness. Charged an entire year fees for a couple visits. This location is not great and does not have some of the basics that I've come to expect from a Planet Fitness location. The first day I went to this location, I went to the stretching area to start off as I normally do. No foam rollers in sight, one yoga mat, no paper towels and spray, and if I recall correctly, no mirrored walls. I went to the front desk to ask if they have foam rollers and the girl didn't know what a foam roller was...okay. Well that's unfortunate. I spend a lot of time walking back and forth across the gym to the cleaning stations because there are so few, and they are almost all along the back wall. No cleaning stations at all in the entire back section of the gym with all the free weights and smith machines. It is a real hassle and completely inconvenient. I have been going to this gym for 5 yrs now and was surprised to see any negative reviews when checking the hours this morning. This gym is my choice because the staff is great, always friendly, helpful and know most of our names. The community there is very friendly and relax. They also have great equipment and most importantly too me, it is always clean!! Never attended a gym that had consistently clean locker rooms and equipment. A lot of the staff is very unfriendly along with the manager. There is constantly a problem with payments. They put in my card information wrong and are trying to charge and overdraft fee because of there mistake and gave me a 2 day limit to go out of my way to come in and fix it. Their employees barely wear masks but will in force it upon those on cardio machines that have it just below the nose. Recently spoke with a very rude woman by the name of Amanda who so happens to be the GM. Because of covid it's obviously been tough to go to the gym and make sure myself and my family are safe. I was told they would freeze my account until things get a little back to normal but I received a charge. I called and spoke to Amanda who who was rude and unwilling to help with this issue. She also told me that she believes her assistant manger gave me the right information, as if she was there for the call(which she was not) I do not recommend this location at all. I signup on may 29th and applied under student promo thing. where I was told no extra charge for cancellation or anything. just the 20 dollar per month. Then comes july 1 and i was charged 41 dollar. no one told me i was going to be billed for that. when i called, said it was annual fee. annual fee on top of 20 per month. wtf is that. I was not informed about the annual fee and they were not ready to help me. a rip off. This gym is your basic gym. Honestly, I signed up because it was relatively close to home and had CLEAN equipment. It's nothing extravagant but it's got all your needs for getting a beneficial workout in. I'm shocked to see its reviews so low. Amanda who I believe is the GM of this location was super helpful when I signed up for the black card, You can really tell she cares to get to know who she signs up, and who will be coming to her location. The location is a lot more organized I feel than Waterford's location (which was a lil' intimidating how everything is set up there.) I wish the Norwich location would introduce the Red Light Therapy booth to their gym, that would be a wonderful addition. Overall the staffing is mostly younger individuals all friendly, and the gym is super clean in comparison to the Waterford Location. It is going to be my home gym! read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I am not pleased with how I was lied to. Both the manager and staff told me that if I cancelled my no commitment membership by January 10th I would not be charged the annual fee of $40. I was told to send a letter with my name, and information and my reason for cancelling. I did everything I was told to do and the money was taken out January 4th. January 4th! My girlfriend had joined up with the planet fitness club in norwich awhile ago and went for a bit and it was good until as he decided to end her member ship. You have to actually write them a note to end. If you do keep a copy for yourself and sign and date it. They lost our first copy and continued to charge us regardless of the fact that they lost the note to cancel the member due to their poor organizational skills. They didnt give us back any of the money and still refused to close our account saying we owe more money that they had charged us after we closed the account and that we have to pay them another 100 dollars on top of the 130 that we already paid over the last month!! Its insanity! We are still in the process of trying to close the account without having to pay any more outrageous fees. A word to the wise, find a local gym in Norwich. Theres a bunch 10,000 times better than planet fitness that dont make you feel hastled and ripped off. read more

The staff always harassed me when I brought my teenaged son with me, they carded him and demanded to see his birth certificate, every time we went. This got really old and when I complained about their treatment they cancelled my membership. Horrible management, absolutely horrible management. Poorly run facility. read more
