What has happened to this place? It used to be good. The 30 minute circuit training is now GONE! No more ultra-blood-pumping full body workout. Now you have to try and navigate through the regular floor machines which look like PHONE BOOTHS at times. And where did all the elliptical machines and treadmills go? It seems SO crowded now and sometimes there isn't a bike or treadmill available. I really miss the ellipticals with the moving ski handles. It would have been nice if they sold all those machines to hire a plumber. The men's bathroom is horrible! It used to just be bad, but now it's terrible. Almost to the point of a health inspector should come in and evaluate the situation. With all the people going in & out of there they only have one out of three sinks working (is that even legal). There is actual safety tape blocking them off, like a crime scene. The middle sink has been that way for months now. One of the electrical outlets has a busted plate with exposed wires right next to a sink and all of the soap dispensers are either broken or missing! You can see a silhouette of where they used to be. Maybe people broke them off as they weren't always full or in working condition anyway. And the massage chair closest to the doorway still doesn't work that well. At times you sit there and it barely does anything, it almost seems like it stopped working and it's been that way for over a year now. I like to use the rower . Usually there at two rowers but for the last month or more there has only been 1 rower as the other is broken. So today I was there and for over an hour I could not use the rower because it was being used by others. I asked the front desk and they said they were waiting for a replacement. Seems trivial at the time but it seems to me that a company this big can find another rower somewhere but I guess not. read more

So they did it and got rid of the 30 minute circuit. Yes there are comparable machines interspersed with the rest of the weight machines but no way to just run the circuit and knock it out which was my reason for joining. The machines may be there but there is no expectation for people to move quickly off them anymore so be prepared to wait through endless reps and lots of phone time. I think it is time to move elsewhere. I will say the front desk staff here has always been polite and helpful as well as the management. They are great! I've been trying to cancel my membership. I've been bouncing around so many times. Now that they have taken my membership fee for 3 months AND their yearly fee finally someone canceled my membership. Wow! Just went to see what the changes were in Petaluma and they took away 75% of the ellipticals!! Looks like some other cardio machines too! Currently under poor general management, Planet Fitness Petaluma has equipment and bathroom fixtures in ill repair. There is no enforcement of people camping out on machines on their phones. Although there is suitable parking in the area, there was an armed robbery three doors down from this facility a week ago. Constant miscommunication between management, staff and members continues to reduce the reputation of Planet Fitness Petaluma. read more

I had to cancel my membership today because the company has refused to return the bikes they removed a few months ago. For some of us -- mainly older folks like me -- the bikes represent an excellent way to get fit. There are only four bikes on the floor now; there used to be twice that many. All of the four were in use, so I could not get my workout today. The person at the desk told me they have asked the company to provide more bikes, but they refused. I don't normally leave negative reviews on businesses however planet fitness went in and did a little change up on a bunch of machines and it just happened to be the area that I used every day. It was a little 30 minute workout area and it was a circuit training thing where you kept your cardio up they took away all the steps. They took away all the machines and put a bunch of dumbbells back in that corner. Then they took away the recumbent bicycles that I used to like they're down to three now so I guess I need to wait. I wish they wouldn't have just removed the stuff. I wish they would've maybe replaced it with some nicer machines. I'm sure there's duplicates out in the gym, but it was just really nice having that little corner all to myself. I've been going pretty consistently for the last 90 days and just starting to notice some actual results and feeling better. now I'm gonna be out in the gym with all the other people and it just doesn't feel the same. I absolutely loved this gym when I joined 4 months ago. Now as of a couple of weeks, this gym has decided to I guess upgrade the cardio part of the gym. What has been disappointing is they removed some recumbent bikes and left only two to use. I am now not able to use the recumbent bike as they are always occupied. The doctor has prescribed my use of recumbent bike and I am now not able too. Why did they remove those additional recumbent bikes? There are now numerous treadmills which only half are used at any time. So is Planet Fitness trying to eliminate elders and go for the younger generation? I don't want to have to look for a new gym but I am discouraged with Planet Fitness in Petaluma right now. read more

The crowd has changed in the last 6 months. There used to be a ton of space after 8pm and now it's absolutely crowded with little young guys until nearly closing. There is rarely, if ever a weight/resistance machine I want to use available between 2:30pm and 9:30pm. No one adheres to the no talking (loudly) on your phone 'policy' (tho that's true of 3 locations I've been to). Cleaning the equipment is not something I've witnessed much of, like they do seemingly every time I visit the RP location. There's been some recognizable filth on the same machines for weeks now. I think at LEAST weekly deep cleans (maybe 1 section per day?) should be attainable. That said, the staff is always kind and friendly. I see the issues as 100% a management problem. PLEASE find a way to decrease crowds of high school boys. PLEASE find a way to make it less awkward for others (not traveling in packs of hoodie-clad kids) to use the weight area. PLEASE try to include a couple extra machines that are the most used (that leg press is just never free unless it's super late at night). PLEASE get the new glute machines that RP has. One plus above RP... the FANS!!! It helps SO much. RP has no air movement and it's sweat-soaked and miserable (if cleaner and less crowded). read more

This is a clean, well run, yet under-attended location. In the mid-morning hours I work out, you rarely need wait to use a piece of equipment. The staff is responsive: I mentioned a broken strap on a rower; it was fixed when I worked out again two days later. I especially appreciate this: the polite staff runs from Petaluma friendly to understatedly friendly and courteous-superefficient, like front desk guy Michael, who is great. Because some of the equipment is older, and sometimes mildly hinky, I don't have a full five-star feeling for the place, but three-stars feels way too low, especially when you factor in the quality of the staff (high) and monthly cost (LOW...)! read more

On treadmill and phone rang. I had to answer emergency call. I stopped machine and started walking to the front to take call outside. Very very rude front desk lady at desk in front as I am already walking out door started raising her voice at me telling me I can't take calls only in front.. I mentioned I just answered and im walking out. She kept talking while I was on emergency call thinking she can yell at me while I am walking out the door... she is very rude and needs to learn customer service. Lot of people sitting around on machines checking their phones. If you leave your machine between sets for more than 30-45 seconds between sets but leave a piece of clothing or a water bottle someone will likely start working on that same machine and stay there after a set and start checking their phones. Kinda weird and rude. Employees are generally nice! read more

I have been a member since PF opened in Petaluma. I cannot count how many managers have come and gone. I understand this is a franchise, but 3 new managers in 6 months, there is a problem. Absolutely no gym etiquette is enforced, cell phone talking, watching videos while sitting on equipment, not wiping down the equipment after use. The employees are afraid to address these issues and this comes from the top. Sad situation here, the inmates are running the asylum. I can only say if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. . read more

Place is clean, staff is friendly, and there's very few people working out. It's nice and quiet.

I love this gym. It's clean, has a great variety of machines and free weights, and is very affordable. The Petaluma location has a new trainer named Matthew. He is amazing! I have been going to the gym for over a year and he showed me how to use the equipment, more efficiently, so I get a much better workout. He also leads classes throughout the day. I've taken a stretch class and a strength class and enjoyed both. Matthew is a great addition to this location. read more

The employees are so kind and inviting. the Manager Jill is so sweet and helpful and Maddy they are always there to greet with a smile and are super helpful if I have questions. All in all, great clean gym with great friendly staff!!! Giving 4 stars because they could use more equipment. More dumbbells would be nice and another leg press machine. The smith machine racks aren't the best either. They seem like they desperately need some WD-40. I've been to a lot of planet fitnesses and this one has the most stiff and worst smith machine racks. I've been to many gyms over the years, and even though this gym is pretty basic, it has what I need to stay strong, flexible and healthy. Today I took advantage of the "Design Your Own Workout" class with the trainer, Matthew. I needed some guidance on a simple core workout and wanted to use a combination of machines and free weights. Matthew did a great job of listening to my goals and explained the various ways to use the machines so that I can get the most value from my workout. He showed me the difference in all the free weights and explained the benefits of using them vs just machines. I left feeling like I had a deeper understanding of the equipment available and won't feel as intimidated going to the gym now. So I have been going here for a few months and wanted to review after I had a good idea how this place really is after I had a chance to go here many times and different hours. First the price almost scared me ! Very affordable but not lacking quality equipment. A few cool perks if you get the black card you can tan and use the hydro massage chairs, I do not tan but after a work out 10 minutes I the chair is nice. This gym is very clean, Wipe machines down after you work out is almost culture here. Front staff friendly, Lots of tvs and treadmills , 4 stair masters. Not a lot of free weights, Pretty nice clean club, Can get crowed but most of the time no problem using any equipment with out waiting. Probably the cleanest gym I ever worked out at. So if you want a gym which has a affordable price and offers a lot of perks come check this place out. read more

I quit my gym once the pandemic started so haven't been inside a gym in almost 16 months. I've worked out most of my life and just wanted a basic gym that was affordable. This gym checks ALL the boxes for me: clean locker room and showers, large workout floor with great equipment, friendly staff and decent music (not heavy metal crap). Based on some of the Yelp reviews I had low expectations but was quite literally blown away with this gym. I look forward to going back every day to get my body back into prepandemic shape! Thank you planet fitness!!!August 3, 2021: Covid mask adherence could be better if the front desk staff would remind patrons to wear their masks properly (covering their nose). Members who fail to wear a mask properly should be warned and then asked to leave. I love Petaluma Planet Fitness. I've found the staff to be unfailingly friendly, helpful, and engaged, and I'm really impressed by the size of the facility and the number and variety of machines. The women's locker room is very spacious, with nice showers and many toilet stalls. I've always found both the locker room and the workout areas to be clean and free of clutter. For ten bucks a month with a modest additional annual fee, it can't be beat. I also love that it's in a big shopping area with plenty of parking and near Safeway. read more

I love the price and amenities at this club. The staff are pleasant. That's the good. The really, really bad is that the cardio machines including ellipticals, treadmills, and stationary bikes are ALWAYS OUT OF ORDER (as seen in the picture). When you ask the staff they always say the owner is working to get someone in to fix them, but it never happens. The out of order signs have been in place for three weeks and "0" progress has been made to fix the issue. Luckily, I come in the morning, but my friends that come at night say it's like Disneyland when trying to find a machine - you have to wait at lease 20-30 minutes before one opens up. read more

My husband is a Black Card member of Planet Fitness in Petaluma. I usually go with him to exercise as his guest. A couple of months ago I complained on Yelp that three of the seven TV channels were not functioning and that the staff at the front desk were unable to reset them. When we were at PF today, I went to use one of my favorite machines. Someone have left their headphones on it. I didn't want to touch another member's belongings, so I went to the front desk for assistance. The young staffer finished helping another person and then came over and removed the headphones. I then started to use the equipment. Within a few minutes, my husband came over and said that a senior staffer complained to him that I was just a guest and needed to stop harassing the staff. It turns out that the young staffer at the front desk was the same person who was unable to reset the TVs previously. This feels like retaliation! Worst Planet fitness ever. I've been to numerous places from Oklahoma, Nevada, and California. This one is by far the worst. The customer service is subpar, very dirty throughout with all the trash bins were overflowing. Then to top it off I had to pay for the temp eye shades that should be complementary for black card members especially. The staff is great and they work hard to help you the place is clean and healthy. The hydro massage lounge is awesome after a good workout. Need a tan? They have tanning beds also. The place has plenty of equipment nice bathrooms and locker's . The music is ok so I use my EarPods. Way to many gabbing people talking loud = EarPods. The sign says no cell phone talking in the machine stations yet alway some woman gabbing on the phone so bring your EarPods. read more

I use my PF membership when I'm traveling usually. I've seen quite a few different facilities across the country. This one is definitely one of the nicer ones, if not the best. All of the equipment appeared brand new and the locker rooms were exceptionally clean. I have visited this location at different times on weekdays and, even during rush hour/prime time, it didn't seem to get overcrowded. Parking is easy. As far as PF's go, this one is a winner. read more

Ok I am seeing some negative reviews for things that, quite frankly at a gym for this amazing price, are out of bounds and seem a bit sketchy as I have never seen or had a problem with any of that However make no mistake this gym has more to offer for fitness equipment than any gym in our area and cool areas for certain workouts like their 30 minute circuit area. I have been using planet fitness as my go to workout place, for about three years now. I always like experimenting at what time is most optimal and the least busy. I've found that heading there first thing in the morning is the best to get the most time on the equipment. When PF first opened in Petaluma, I jumped onboard. Great price, friendly staff, not crowded and all the machines were new and clean. Most importantly, the locker room was squeaky clean. Now, a few months later, the showers are getting slimy. I told the staff at the counter, but they didn't know what to do or say. (?) I told them to tell the management. A few weeks later, no change. I've been a member for a while. I called the Petaluma club a couple of months ago to see if someone could show me around the equipment for the 1st time. I don't want a personal trainer - just someone that can show me the equipment. I was told there was no personal trainer there and to read the QR codes on the equipment. I recently called again. I have just cancelled my membership to the Petaluma Planet Fitness. This facility is fairly new and the equipment is very acceptable including lockers and rest rooms. My issue is a matter of trust and billing. once the P F Petaluma reopened ( March) I joined to bring my wife and I to the club. she cancelled her membership in 2020 due to Covid. In Aug we discovered that Planet Fitness had been charging my wife (for three months without her permission after cancelling ( in writing) in 2020). I can not allow my bank account to be attached to an organization that abuses account data to charge for services not delivered. My wife and I have been using my membership for visits while charging us both. In bringing this up to the Petaluma Mgr. there was no recognition for this situation other then stating that was a miss communication. NO THIS WAS WITHDRAWING MONEY FROM A cancelled members account. Upon discovery I cancelled my membership to try to prevent the same abuse on my checking account. This is not the type of organization that deserves my business and I recommend that you avoid Planet Fitness for your fitness membership. I do not wish nor have the time to supervise my account automatic withdrawals to Ward off predatory business containing my checking Account info.
