This gym has weights that you can lift and put down, but the facility is incredibly filthy and run down. The staff is mostly preoccupied with their phones. Human hair and lint tumbleweeds everywhere. The bathrooms are unsanitary and smell terrible. The paint is chipped, and the walls are dirty. While the surrounding neighborhood encourages poorly designed graffiti on private surfaces and trash and litter on the streets and sidewalks, it's no excuse for this franchise to encourage unsanitary conditions inside the facility. (By not discouraging it, it's by design, encouraged.) I hope they can take steps to improve. read more

Idk what everyone is talking about but patience is key . I've been going to this location faithfully for a year and it was fine for me even with the high school kids in the summer. Now the facility has been upgraded with a new bathroom and AMAZING new equipment. You're going to the gym to workout not be pissed cause you have to wait . If you're considering joining the Providence Planet fitness, I strongly discourage it. They've just given high school students a free summer pass. On the surface it sounds good. The reality however, is they behave like animals and travel in packs. Ive never had to wait to use a machine. But now, one student will use a machine while 3-4 people in their possi will stand around and watch, then take their own turns. The girls sometimes behave worse than the boys-shouting in the girls' locker room, taking up space and intimidating people trying to walk by. The other day, someone puked in one of the sinks and just left it there. I wish I had taken a photo. I will be forced to cancel my membership and go somewhere that has a zero tolerance policy for this nonsense. I'm too old to be around riff-raff who dont appreciate or respect the space, let alone people who care about their physical and mental wellbeing. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. read more

This gym is amazing, life changer. I love that it's "No judgement" I'm disable and before getting a membership here, I was looking at other gyms. They were afraid to accept me. I got a membership at Planet Fitness. I started the gym not in shape, I have Ataxia. It ruin my speech, vocals, my right side is weak. Every trainer working for that club is aware. I love(appreciate)that they find time to teach me workouts for my balance. The staffs are great too. Ever since new management has taken over, this club has taken a major turn for the worse. After jumping rope in the corner at this location without any negative incident for 1.5 years, I was suddenly told that if I was jumping rope again, I'd be asked to leave the gym?! I was completely confused and asked to see a written rule stating such, which was never given to me. I also asked for contact info for someone I could speak to about this weird rule and I was referred to the website. The staff, who used to be warm and welcoming, talk badly about me and don't greet me or say goodbye. It's like I've done something crazy wrong for wanting to jump rope in the gym. Also, the only water dispenser in the gym was broken for over a month and they were rude about that too. They put the foam barbell wraps in a locked drawer and I now have to stop my work out to go request one, which is totally ridiculous. They said people were taking them, but there was 4 when I started at this club and it's still the same 4 in the drawer now, so it's just another dumb rule. What a shame as this used to be my happy place and honestly I now feel bullied at the gym. Planet fitness is supposed to be an inclusive, positive and non-judgmental environment and this club's management is not living up to those values. UPDATE: Just wanted to provide the update that after posting the review above, I was told today that my membership is being cancelled and I'm no longer allowed at the gym. Neg: First time at this location and I must say I am disappointed. First I noticed they don't clean as frequently,as the location I am used to. I was there for 2 hours, and only saw someone clean/dust once.... only one side of the gym. few machines were out of order. One employee had his mask around his chin while talking to members. I just visited for the first time today and I like this gym. What I would say replace the treadmills with Apple Watch connectable ones. In addition, could replace the strength training equipment with ones with a counter. Other than that, these guys do a great job fostering a great environment. read more

Definitely was not happy with my treatment today as I was pulled aside upon entry and told I couldn't work out because I had a back pack with me, while waiting for my company that I came with I seen more than a handful of people with dufflebags and backpacks, here are just a few examples. I deffinetly felt pin pointed and attacked after talking to Staff about my concern of discrimination he assured me that he was going to get the other people with bags off the floor... about An hour later and he still hasn't. Finally after complaining again I was offered a complimentary locker in the front near the staff which would have been nice to know instead of being forced to Stand aside the whole time. read more

As a former member of Equinox, Boston Sports Club and Lifetime Fitness, all fitness clubs with varying degrees of bells and whistles, I admit I would (still!) prefer to miraculously stay fit just by having a fancy gym card all while eating everything tasty that struck my fancy, and trust me, I have had a loooooooooot of fancy. I always came to my senses tho and eventually killed each fancy gym membership when realized I could be enjoying a tasting menu at a one star Michelin restaurant rather than monthly dues on a gym I barely used. So I appreciate you, Planet Fitness, for being the rational utilitarian choice for people who couldn't care less about ambiance and would just rather get on with using your 90s era machines for the bargain basement rate of $10 (or even $20, depending on whether you're the type of masochist who wants to add on skin cancer via tanning machines and future chiropractor visits via massage machines that seem to want to break you). 5 stars for price, minus 1 star for cleanliness, minus 1 star for the horrible parking lot. As for being a block away from North Bakery, all that treadmill work deserves a cookie or three to celebrate a net zero effect on the weight scale. I just joined PF with a Black Card membership and would definitely recommend it!! This facility is super clean and well-maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there's decent music with plenty of TVs. They have TONS of treadmills, and plenty of ellipticals. I do wish they had more bikes, though (they only have 7 or 8). Parking is also tough if you go at a busy time (between 5-8pm). I've usually been lucky with finding street parking since the parking lot is almost always full. Either way, great facility and I'm looking forward to coming back again and again! read more

**DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM. Terrible experience from start to finish. When I first signed my contract, I was not even given a tour of the gym. It's true what all of the other reviews say, it is IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. I moved out of state, and they say you can only cancel your membership in person, or by mailing in a letter, but I sent 3 separate letters they claim to have never received. Only after I made time to go to the post office, wait in line, and get a certified letter, did they agree they received one. **If you do not certify your cancellation letter, they will claim they did not receive it. Since mailing the letter, I have called to speak to the Manager, Belkis 5 times over the past 2 weeks, and left 5 messages, and still have not received a call back. That is unacceptable way to deal (or not deal) with customers. I have been told by the assistant manager that only the Manager, Belkis can help me with what I need, yet she is never there when I call, and will not return a phone call to me. Unacceptable. Bonus, when I called and asked to speak to an Assistant Manager, he comes to the phone and says "Hey, whats up?" No introduction, no name, no accountability. After cancelling, the assistant manager told me I would be charged a $60 fee, but he could not tell me where in the contract it stated that I would be charged a fee. I cited the specific paragraph and line that states I would not be charged in my instance, but he repeated over and over again that was not true, yet could not point to any other section that said otherwise. He only said "I am looking at the contract". Then why couldn't he tell me where that statement was? Train your employees with the basics of taking a message, number, returning phone calls and taking accountability. As of now, I still have not received one call back, and had to resort to putting a stop on my payment through my bank. RUN. This place is a SCAM. read more

Beware of giving money to Planet Fitness on Fountain Street. They talked me into taking the upper tier membership for a 2 month trial. They swore up and down that I could downgrade to a lower fee, month to month tier if I wanted to during the free trial. When I went in to downgrade, they told me I couldn't go to month to month and that I was locked in for a year's membership. I told the manager what I was told by the staff member when I signed up for the membership and she said she would have to check with the employee who signed me up. Why this would make a difference I don't know. She said she would call me back later that day. I never got a call. A month later I see they charged me for the upper tier fee. Do not believe anything the staff tells you. They are either ill-informed, don't understand the terms of the membership they are selling or are just plain lying. read more

A new staff member didn't realize the membership commitment parameters u til I explained it, not his fault he's new. When he asked his immediate supervisor she was dismissive at best. I'm not sure how much my review will forewarn customers, because this gym is PACKED, even though it's a complete mess. There were ZERO parking spots when I showed up, just after peak time. I drove around for a while trying to figure out where I could park. They need a double-decker parking garage where you scan your PF card to get in or something, because it was ridiculous. It's not in the best area, either, and driving around looking for parking I had to consider the fact that it was getting dark. Luckily, they have ample machines inside so I had no problems getting the machines I wanted, which was nice. As for the cleanliness of the gym- it's disgusting. There is no reason it needs to be that messy. No reason at all. They have this little review box right outside the locker room that you can rate the cleanliness of the locker room. Obviously they don't check it because my workout was an hour and a half, and the same paper towel mess was on the ground from when I started to when I ended, and still there after I showered and was leaving. No excuses. Fast food places clean their bathrooms once an hour, a gym should clean the locker room more often. What's even more frustrating is that there were 4 people standing around the counter, some texting, some talking. With that many employees there, there was no excuse for the gym to be as dirty as it was. The black card area was a mess, and they had half empty Lysol wipe jars to clean the chairs that left a mess all over. The shower were warm and had great pressure, which was a plus. Now, as for the automatic message I'll get in response to this review telling me to contact a manager, skip me, because y'all obviously don't care. That message gives the misconception that y'all will handle the problem, but it's going to get ignored. Skip the facade. Corporate needs to get out here. This is a terrible gym. It's not worth the membership at all -- There's never any parking, the gym is dirty and disgusting, and their employees are the most incompetent people I have ever met in my life. The workers there are rude and sorry, but they're complete idiots. I called in June to cancel my membership over the phone as I didn't know about their strict in-person cancellation policy. Had the employer on the phone told me that, I would've gone in that day to cancel. But no. The worker told me I was all set. I got charged for the next two months when I reviewed my bank statement. I called and spoke to the manager who is a POS and didn't do ANYTHING to help. I did not get refunded and was penalized for a fault of her employee. They all have attitudes there and it's so not worth even the cheap price to go there. read more

planet fitness is a convenient gym facility, in part because they offer great low fees and they have many location. The issue I have with this company is their lack of accountability and service when you need to make changes to your membership. There are two tiers of membership and on their website it's marked clearly that there is no commitment, meaning no contracts. However, each location is a franchise and if you try to make changes to your membership they want you to write and mail a letter. if you travel it can be convoluted. The company demands electronic payments. You also upload their app for entrance. But when there are issues there are no resolutions over the phone nor electronically If you travel you cannot freeze your membership. There are issues with this company that can be resolved yet no one to truly speak with. The staff I met during my use of the facilities were wonderful people. This gym is my home PF. My favorite thing about this location it is its racial and socioeconomic variety: one can witness hipsters and hip-hoppers, college kids and contractors, bouncers and businesspeople all sweating in harmony. PF Providence IS the United Nations of gyms. As I am generally skeptical of homogeneity, this is the number one reason why I like this location so much. What can I say, I am a radical system-hater at heart and this is just the kind of anti-racist co-habitation that creams my twinkee! If you are looking to work out among identical suburbanites, this is not the gym for you. Go to the Seekonk location. Be warned, though. This location is crowded - especially between four and seven during the week (duh). I have never not been able to get on a cardio machine of my choice, but two empty machines on either side of you in order to avoid all human contact is probably not gonna happen. The variety of free weights and pulley/row machines is not giant, and chances are there will be a gaggle of giant dudes bogarting this area; but, in my experience, they are friendly as heck and are happy to let a lady have a go. I don't like how the cardio machines are all facing the mirrored free-weight area, as it makes me feel like a performer when I am working with the free-weights and self-conscious of my form, but usually the pain and misery of working out helps take my mind off that concern. Three more major pluses for me: there is ample room for stretching and body-weight work in the dedicated stretching room as well as in the thirty-minute room. In addition, the gym, locker rooms and bathrooms are always sparkling clean. Finally, the staff at this location is super-friendly, very helpful, and always seem to be having the time of their lives maintaining the gym floor. Clean, friendly, and cheap. All in all a great deal. I think I save more than ten dollars on my heating bill by showering there in the morning. I go early so it isn't very crowded. And, they don't USUALLY harass you. But recently I was approached and got the personal trainer trying to sell me on his services. Not exactly what I want to deal with at 7 a.m. while I am sweating all over the place on my elliptical. Don't interrupt someones workout (especially at that hour) to try and sell them something, that is just plain rude. read more

Awful cancellation policy. I took a job in Connecticut and moved to South Kingstown RI. The closest gym to my new apartment is over 17 miles away and it's not on 95 so it takes over 20 minutes to drive there. I brought my lease in they still refused to waive the $50 cancellation fee, which is actually $58, and even though I use EFT they still made me use a debit card to pay that fee. Unreasonable and you can't even LIFT like a man there (no deadlift, free weight bench or free weight squat rack). Forget the cheap rate and join a real gym with real customer service. read more

This planet fitness location has a nice selection of machines, but is somewhat lacking in natural light. The locker rooms are dated, and some of the machines have tears or other signs of wear. The personnel are generally friendly and professional. Parking is severely limited. read more

I have been going to this Plant Fitness for about a year now and I have no real complaints. For $20 a month you get unlimited tanning, massage chair, 1/2 off drinks and you can bring a friend free every time This plant fitness is a bit on the smaller size, which is fine... except after work when you can't get a any machines! I recommend going morning, lunch or late night. Around 6 o'clock PM they are packed. I love that this location is open 24 HOURS except Sunday ( I think they close at 6). read more

I hate being assaulted by a barrage of purple and yellow shit every time I go to the gym. I hate the lighting. The temperature always seems to be too warm. I have the sneaking suspicion that these problems aren't unique to this location. What it does well: - The staff are always super friendly. I don't understand complaints about them. Try being nice first. Sometimes that works. - Equipment is usually clean. There's always a treadmill open no matter how crowded it seems to be. - Ladies locker room is always impeccable. - $10.00 a month. You can't beat the price. $19.99/month for my black card membership... I get to go whenever I want, they're open 24hrs... except on weekends they close at 7pm - strange. I get to bring a free guest each time I go and I get unlimited tanning. The drinks are oddly priced... $1.10 for a gatorade.... because you know you want to work out with a pocket full of change. The parking is always crazy and you have to park in a lot down the street on the other side of a tow yard - at night time you wouldn't want to make this walk alone! The staff always remember me and are very friendly. The machines are usually all in working order, if there is ever something "out of order" - its back in action the next day. read more

What can I say? It's planet fitness. Not golds gym or LA fitness or any other "upscale" gym. It's cheap, the locations are convenient, and the time spent there can be annoying and frustrating. Unfortunately, the staff at this particular location are basically useless. It took them over a month to help my husband switch his home gym when the online tool wasn't working. When he asked a staff member for help, they would pass the responsibility over to another staff member (a member that happened to never be present...ever). Even the manager was unhelpful. It took a while, but my husband was finally able to figure it out on his own. And apparently this location takes pride in staff saying "hello" and "goodbye" as people come & go because they have a little thing up front with buttons you can press, expressing whether or not you got a hello and goodbye that day. Very weird because they rarely do either. Which is odd...just take away the buttons. Anyway, it's really not different than what you'll get at any other planet fitness. There seems to be a lot of personal training going on by people that certainly don't work there and I'm pretty sure that's generally frowned upon at not only Planet Fitness but all gyms everywhere. Doesn't affect me personally, but just thought I'd mention it. You are not going to get the best workout of your life. You are not going to have the greatest experience every visit but I've said this about pfit and I'll say it again: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. $20 (or even $10) a month...you cannot expect much. And I don't, but I still do complain hehe. Of course I'll be back because I'm a paying member and it's the only gym I can reasonably afford and visit no matter whereI am. Be warned: the early morning crowd is a rowdy bunch. They are loud and they love to show it (yelling to friends across the gym, slamming equipment, being generally obnoxious). Decent gym and not much different than most other Planet Fitness locations. Tons of cardio equipment and alot of weight machines. They have one of everything, but not many of the ones folks use the most (ab crunch machines, bicep machines, etc). And the equipment is showing a bit more wear and tear than other locations. And you can only pay your monthly membership with a checking account which is tough if you keep a low balance and worry about overdrafts. My old YMCA just charged my credit card, but it was also really expensive. So it's a trade-off. They have a decent little parking lot and some street parking. Overall a good choice, especially if you live in the neighborhood. read more

The only reason I come here is because it's close enough to home or me to walk or bike and for $10 a month it's hard to complain. I wouldn't come here if I had to drive, because parking is pretty much nonexistent. The inside of the gym is okay but I just do cardio and leave. When I broke my foot last year and had to suspend membership, I had to bring documentation since hobbling in wearing a cast didn't seem to be enough. If you want a "judgement free zone" go someplace else. I've never felt more uncomfortable in my life at a gym. I was constantly lurked at by men, given dirty looks by just about every staff member and any female in this place. They (all PF) have rules that state no stringers (tiny tank tops for men) yet I've seen several woman walking around in sports bras and shorts. There is little to no free weight equipment and ridiculous rules about weight training. If you're serious about getting healthy, find a really place that is actually willing to help you... not just take your money and feed you donuts, pizza and bagels. read more

After going three times to the gym, I do have to add that it is lacking on cable machines, adaptable accessories and free weight equipment. They are also carabiners from 2-4 machines at a given time - I took a star for that - A simple solution that i've seen in most gyms is securing them with a zip tie. I had attended a similar local gym in Allston, MA called Gym it. They had similar deals for individual and buddy memberships but it was around 10 dollars more per month for both plans respectively. Boston Sports Club has a similar promotion for about the same price with LOTS more gym and variety. If I had the option, I would spend the little extra money for a more complete experience, but Planet Fitness is convenient in location but that's about it. Like I mentioned before, you get what you pay for, so considering how much i've paid for when I lived overseas for less or equal to what Planet Fitness offers, it's a bargain! UPDATE: I have recently encountered a similar gym in Cranston called "Blast Fitness" You get a whole lot more for a similar price and it definitely blows Planet Fitness out of the water. The personnel and management are more attentive to the machines, refilling the paper towels and maintenance. I find it really annoying that I can be at planet fitness for a whole hour and there are no paper towels in sight. (It seems like only the manager checks the towel periodically, the rest of the staff does it whenever). "Blast Fitness" is no Equinox, but if it was closer I would definitely switch over! read more

This is pretty much everything you can ever want for in a Planet Fitness. It's cheap, it's clean, and there are plenty of machines. I usually don't have to wait for anything when I'm there. Like other PFs, they have water, drinks, and miscellaneous workout things for sale there (like headphones). Sure, you won't get any premium amenities and if you're going for bodybuilding you may have some problems, but PF doesn't really do that. What it does is provide plenty of exercise equipment for a really low price. read more

Standard planet fitness. With slightly higher dumbells. If your not familiar with the pf line, then it's a very basic gym at a very low price. Lots of cardio machines all with a view of multiple tvs. About 2-3 of each isolation machine which is convenient since that's about the max number of ppl who would need them at once. However the lat pull-down and leg press machines felt loose and made it hard to hit the full muscle range and made the machines seem like they lacked some maintenance. The one major plus this pf has is the fact that the dumbells go to at least 75lbs which is higher than the 60lb limit of most standard pfs. They also seemed to have an extra bench for weightlifting. This gave the feeling that this pf was slightly more accommodating to moderate weightlifters than the average pf. read more

Horrible customer service Been a member for three years the one time i had an issue with billing i was given an attitude by the manager belkis who was covering for the manger lotus who was on vacation she also spoke over me when i tried to explain the situation and after being given the run around for 2 days nothing was resolved at all from the regional manager April who gave me the BS of being in a meeting for about six hours to the manager as a company they lack a tremendous amount of customer service skills i wont ever refer anyone to this gym again none the less continue my membership with them period. If thats how you train your staff to treat loyal customers I cant seem to understand how this gym location is still in business . read more
