Look, I really don't get the reviews talking about how dirty it is, it's not. It's a clean and well maintained gym, but not many reviews say this so I'll let whoever reads this know, this planet fitness has a good amount of those hammer strength machines, not to mention that they have the squat racks and free preacher curl. This planet fitness also has a wide variety of the matrix machines. Honestly top 2 planet fitnesses I've ever been to and I've been to many. Planet Fitness - Gyms Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

I've been to lots of Planet Fitness locations throughout the country. They are generally very clean (including locker rooms). The Planet Fitness on Beneva Road in Sarasota is a sorry exception. It is not only the dirtiest Planet Fitness I've attended but one of the dirtiest fitness centers I've ever used. Recently, hot water was unavailable for approximately 4-months. Now, the club claims its roof is leaking over the fitness floor (I've seen water), and that the leaks have destroyed most of the TV's that line the center - I count 3 of approximately 24 that are working, and that situation is going on 2-months. Equipment goes unchecked, mostly cardio, and I think the only time that equipment was calibrated was when it was installed. Locker rooms are generally a disaster. read more

I'm here in Florida visiting for a couple of months.. I travel frequently and work out at a lot of different planet fitnesses.. most of the time you see employees constantly cleaning/ wiping down machines, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the floor of the tanning/ total body booths after each use, lockers rooms being cleaned a few times a day.. this location is one of the worst I've seen. The staff stay chatting behind the front desk. Place feels dirty, locker room is dirty, I see no one cleaning ever! I'm there at least 21/2 hours a day lifting, doing cardio, and using black card. This is the first planet fitness I've been in where the total body booth lights need to be replaced..I'm now going to Bradenton location! read more

It's over a month later, TVs still the same, with a couple of more not working. The dip assist machine has been broken for at least 6 months. Still the dirtiest gym I've ever been to. It's obvious planet fitness corporate and the franchisee could care less about this location. How about charging me less since I'm not getting the full planet fitness membership at this location? As others have mentioned it's apparent the owner of this franchise doesn't care much about this North Beneva location. The hand sanitizers on the walls rarely work and I was told the manager is responsible for replacing batteries in those devices. They also post signs saying you can't wear street shoes during your workouts but it's not enforced. Big turnover in personnel which speaks volumes about this location. read more

Okay, in the year plus I've been a member this location has lost 2 stars. Why you ask? Easy answer, in several parts. 1. Only one staff member has the guts to enforce the no cell phone conversations in the workout policy. 2. They have lost any ability to staff weekends. Check in and there exists great chances you won't see any staff begind the counter or on the floor. 3. With this poor staffing, transcans and recycle bins overflow. 4. With 90% of their customers using head phones they still insist on playing the piped in music at levels that are 100% unnecessarily loud. When asked, no one can say that its most likely for revenue generating reasons as they are piping in the stuff from their PF channel, which sells ads 5. The E network which they proudly show on 2 tv's, has a lot of inappropriate content. When doing cardio I do not feel the need to see surgery, the Kardashian's or any of the other junk that is on. Yeah, I hear you, move to a different station for cardio. Can't, what I can due to health limitations are by the E tv. I do try to watch other tv's and my phone but the distraction is a bit much. 6. The client base seems to be growing in the unescorted pre- teen demographic. That may not be the case, but at times it seems to be. 7. The new manager, nice guy, seems over his head and is a far cry from the previous manager who was properly promoted out. 8. Staff is friendly enough but don't seem to always be focused on the job at hand . The gym itself stays relatively clean, the price works. Sadly at the rate this gym is trending I an not sure how long the value will be there If nothing else, please turn down the damn music (that is a PF wide problem) read more

I joined Sarasota while on vaca for a month. Two months later I called the club to cancel, and they tell me I have to come in to my home club, or mail a paper letter to some unknown corporate address. I explained that I'm 1,000 miles away, so I can't come in. So I'm told to mail a letter. I asked the guy on the phone (sounded like the manager) what year he thinks we're in, and why I'm supposed to trust mailing a letter to get through and actually get the membership cancelled. He says, "well, I don't know anyone who's actually done that". No kidding? How about a little old fashioned customer service? Doing the right thing? If there's a cancellation fee, fine - but I apparently I have no option but walking physically into the club - even though I signed up on my PHONE. The FTC states that consumer memberships must be as easy to cancel as they are to join. This is clearly not the case. It's a manipulative practice that will only destroy the businesses reputation. Google PF cancellations and all you see are complaints. Seriously, Sarasota, do the right thing - don't hide behind your ridiculous "policy". Member # 10942 read more

Wow! I'm really liking this gym. After my workout I sat in the massage chair. It felt so good! It lasts 10 minutes. Then I did hydromassage chair for 10 min. Then back to massage chair. You get 30 minutes of Black Card Spa per 2 hours. My friend said the massage works out the latic acid so your muscles don't ache. I left feeling great. I was tired all day because I am so out of shape. My BMI is 44. Not good. Later today, I have a 15 min appt with a personal trainer to design my workout. This should be interesting. I want to focus on my stomach since I am prediabetic and have a lot of weight there but the stomach machines are hard. I can't even do a crunch with weights lol. Then I have a 30 minute appt with a bicep/upper body class led by a trainer. It will be my third visit to the gym. I will add 5 min of brisk walking for a total of 15. Currently I am doing weights at 10 lbs for most exercises. Will let you know how today goes. I also want to give the staff an A+ rating for my interactions with them on my last visit. read more

I really liked this gym. I have been going for almost a year now, but will be canceling my membership due to staff not being present to open up the gym. This has happened over 5 times. There is nothing more annoying than getting up early, getting dressed for the gym, and driving all the way there for the gym to be closed with several cars and people waiting at the door. Who owns this planet fitness? If your employee is not reliable, you need to be here to open. It is ridiculous to have all these people waiting when your sign clearly says you open at 6 a.m. i just wasted 30 minutes waiting for an employee to come. They never showed. Went in this location for the first time today, as I'm new to the area. This is the most disgusting and dirty Planet Fitness I have been in. The floors were dirty, the dressing room had questionable brown smears on the benches, the mirrors were dirty with smear marks. the equipment was dirty. 06/22/2024 (updated): I've been a member for 2 years at Planet Fitness here in Sarasota, FL. After Thursday's run-in with Tina (who I have since learned is the Manager of this location), I am at a loss for words. I went to tan on my lunch break (something I've done regularly since joining). I believe the team members typically on-shift between Noon-1pm during the week can vouch for my character. NEVER have I experienced anything like what I did Thursday with the Manager herself, Tina. It quickly escalated into DEFCON-5 level nastiness, embarrassingly so. As manager of a business, she represents that business. Thursday's encounter ended with her terminating my membership on the spot, for the simple reason being she had the power to do so. Apparently, I had the audacity to stand up to her behavior and she didn't like that. She was rude, condescending and completely unprofessional from the moment I checked in for a tanning booth (something she clearly did not know how to operate). Her mannerism was as though she was busy & didn't want to be bothered with this mundane task. Tempers flared in the end, to be sure. Make no mistake however, she & I both know precisely what transpired that afternoon. I was on my lunch break & did not have time to waste. I said as much to her (after I saw her roll your eyes when she didn't know I was looking at her). That was the 1st time I had to re-dress in the tanning room/come back out front. I stood in the room for an exorbitant amount of time/had to re-dress myself/come back out front/watch her fiddle w/ the keyboard she clearly did not know how to use/only to return to the room again, undress, and stand there longer because nothing was happening with the machine. I even called the front desk TWICE from the room. Yet, all of that was my fault apparently. Check that box. I avoid confrontation of any kind, but it will be a cold day in hell & pigs will literally fly before I tolerate someone speaking to me or treating me like this woman did. In my opinion, this woman does not have the strength of character to be in a position of authority. The final straw occurred as I was leaving - The absurd show she put on (very loudly) in front of members when I gave up altogether on tanning because I had to get back to work. As I was leaving, I thanked her for wasting my time (I was beyond annoyed by then). I was now late returning to work and VERY irritated at how ridiculous the whole thing was - She never once so much as apologized or took any accountability over her obvious ineptitude at operating the tanning booth. She went off like a bottle rocket (this woman is a real piece of work folks) so I turned back, now I was FUMING! Words were exchanged, I was LIVID! As I turned to leave again, she said I was the one who was "rude" and "didn't know how to follow instructions" and she was going to cancel my membership and not to try coming back as long as she's Manager. I was rude?! I didn't "follow instructions"?! All lies of course (I've been using them for years). All that was, was an attempt to save face (and embarrass me in the process) because there were other members/staff standing around witnessing this exchange. Bravo Tina! Encore! People need to be forewarned. She will intimidate you. If you dare stand up to her, she'll cancel your membership on the spot, and you will have zero recourse. "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" - Newton's Third Law. After contacting Corporate, I was told this has been escalated up to Regional. Who knows what will come of this, if anything. The Manager at this Planet Fitness is on a serious power-trip though, and someone needs to put her in check. I've filed a report w/ the Better Business Bureau seeking FULL reimbursement of my membership dues. CLEARLY your membership is contingent upon putting up & shutting up when it comes to the Manager. People need to know that if you ever stand up to her in any way, she WILL cancel your membership on the spot. You will have no recourse because it will be your word against hers. I signed up for PF online for the Black card membership. Mind you I have only heard from a few people how good it was etc.. So yesterday I was having the worst day since I lost my sister to cancer yesterday. My fiance and I decided to go check out the gym I just signed up for so we can relieve stress. So we walk in the front door and there are two guys at the counter, one very nice black gentleman and a white guy who IMMEDIATELY turns his back as soon as we walk in. No smiles no how are you no nothing! SO I go up to them, smile and say "Hello I joined this gym online. Is there any way you can give me a tour? I've never been here before." So the black gentleman proceeds to tell us that the white guy was going to give us a tour and remember the guy hasn't even acknowledged us yet so I ask the black guy " Does he talk?" The black guy chuckles and says yes. So then by the miracle of God the white guy starts mumbling something and I said I'm sorry I didn't hear you and he rolls his eyes and says : "I don't do tours." and apparently he just doesn't do customer service! I started giving myself a tour and had such a bad taste in my mouth after he treated us like that we walked out.. NEVER EVER EVER WILL I EVER go back here!!!! Now I know why ratings are so low!!!!!!! In Sarasota, FL several essential equipments have been down for several months. Restrooms likely haves filth tht wasn't cleaned since before the pandemic. Overall gross facility. One out of 10 gyms anywhere you go in FL are scary gross In comparison to the rivals. Crunch, LA, etc.. the immigrants overrun the place putting weights where they don't belong without fail, it is as though numbers need translations. Lots of street clothes, heavy cologne and no sense of personal space.... Love this place. Excellent equipment from workout machines, multiple tanning options to two different types of Massage chairs. Love the 30 minute express workout and a full wall of ab machines. There's always something available and never feels too crowded. All the machines are always clean, the bathrooms are kept well, the showers are great. I always feel great walking in and even better walking out The Black Card membership is only $25/month and is worth EVERY PENNY. Definitely my favorite place for mental, physical and emotional health. read more

They are playing on their phones, 3 of them today taking a break on the couch in front of the TV in the back room, one kid with his feet on the wall. Then they went to play on equipment in the back. When leaving told one the garbage can in the back was overflowing. He acted like he was going to take care of it, then right went back to the desk. There' s some strange reviews here . The PF on Tamiami trail only opened today !! 2/16/21. (They've been building it out for 6 months) !! I don't know how you have 6 reviews from 2019 and 2020. - Probably all for the PF on Beneva, near fruitville. Hoping to have a good experience at the new club - The Beneva location is awesome (as is the PF I go to in NH in Summer). I waited for so long for there to be a Planet Fitness close to me. I drove to Venice for months because Planet Fitness is simply my favorite gym. But the drive got increasingly worse as they started working on 41... and then the "snowbirds" hit. I was so excited when this location finally opened! What a disappointment. The new staff is poorly trained. It takes three people to do anything in their system, which wouldn't be a problem except hey won't let us scan our own ID when we check in. We HAVE to wait for a staff member to scan our ID. The staff at the front desk is typically tied up helping with new memberships, or transferring memberships... so you have to stand around waiting just to check in. According to the staff, the manager wants them to do things that way. I watch people wait a few minutes then walk right past the front desk without checking. From time-to-time I shower and change there. After the first week the gym was open, I realized the showers were not being cleaned. There was "stuff" stuck to my feet the last time I showered there. So I won't be doing that again. The gym is new, and light on members. It's mostly empty so there's no problem using any equipment you need. But it's not friendly and not clean. Whoever the manager is, I've never seen them. Not during the day. Not in the evening. Not on a weekday. Not on a weekend. The manager is "in the office" all the time. I love this location and the staff members. I always feel comfortable there, it's not crowded, and there is a huge variety of new, clean equipment. It's also small enough to not be intimidating. I really enjoy the small group fitness training sessions and several times I've had 1x1 training. I've been impressed with Jimmy as a trainer - he's motivating but down to earth at the same time. The only thing I'd change is I wish it had childcare (otherwise it would be 5 stars). Still, I've been a member of several gyms and this is by far my favorite. read more

To begin, No employee shall ever mo* fu* a customer.. no matter the business, interaction, disagreement, etc. My girlfriend and I were in 10/7 at about 9:30pm. We come at the late hours because she is very self conscious. She also has very serious health conditions which affect her in social and physical settings. The first issue came when she was approached by an employee, Branden, about not wearing her face covering. The reason she wasn't wearing her face mask? She was drinking water.... So she began walking on the treadmill and got about a half mile into walking when she starting having some health issues flare up. She proceeded to step off the treadmill and as Branden again confronted her... although PF policy states "masks up when not excessively exercising" ... it gets very disrespectful because she saw Branden watching her while she was on the treadmill and when he saw his opportunity to approach her about the face mask he did. SO now she's even more self conscious about herself and people watching which is something I thought Planet Fitness prided themselves and everyone being equal? The second issue... you preach sanitation but the hand sanitizer at the lobby was completely empty as we walked out... Third issue is the fact that as her and I were walking out Branden had the audacity to mo* fu* me with another employee AND A CUSTOMER at the counter.... We feel extremely disrespected.. This is the worst gym ever and I never even became a member. This Planet Fitness was going to be very convenient for me because it was across the street from my home but instead, I will never use them. I have made four trips to the gym in the hopes of getting a membership and all times have been unsuccessful. Every time I go in, I have two people standing at the desk being very unhelpful. I understand, disappointingly, that all of your registration the gym goer has to do their selves. Makes me wonder why you have two people behind the desk. Then when I ask questions about amounts of membership it always changes. Last time I went in was last Saturday and the man at the desk told me to wait till Monday for the better price, finally feeling like i got some help I left. I got back to the gym yesterday ready to join and was told none of the prices were right again, but I need a gym and decided to sign up any way. I was told $0 down, $10 a month, $39 annual fee assessed on April 1 and a 12-month contract. the tell me to go home and conveniently sigh up online. I get up this morning and pull up the web site and it is telling me $39 signup fee will also be needed. So, I call the gym to be answered buy a person eating food and chewing to the point of not being able to understand him at all. This is a fantastic gym. Great machines, lots of them. Bright and cheerful atmosphere...especially promoted by Ariane. I think she may be a supervisor but I notice aside from watching over her colleagues, she works well alongside of them. I drove from NY on April 16 to Siesta Key beach for the spring break. As a 57 yr old with nearly 40 years of gym memberships (gyms and their members were a little different and Arnold was the bodybuilding king back then), I can say this place is a gem. I've been to other Planet Fitness gyms in about 6 states and I have yet to see one as clean as this one, including the bathroom. It is quite spacious and the equipment Is Planet Fitness's most modern version. I had no problem checking in with the app on my phone as I walked past (obviously I have the black card and in other states I've been asked to sign in as it wasn't my home state or gym ). Not here, I swiped without stopping and got a "have a great workout" all 4 times that I went. There is plenty of parking unlike others and there is lots of equipment. I can tell that there are not a lot of members as yet because when I went at 6pm the place was not mobbed as it is in NY. But when it is discovered it's sure to be filled to capacity. read more
