If you've had trouble in the past…read morelosing weight, if you've had trouble sticking to a routine, if you want to be challenged, if you want to push your limits, if you're bored with the same old, same old; CrossFit is the answer. You don't just show up & get left on your own. There are sessions available each day (truthfully Monday - Saturday) & you do the Work Out of the Day (WOD) with everyone at the same time. The whole group feeds off each other & only Positive reinforcement is allowed. Each fellow 'Athlete" is honor-bound to help you push to your full potential. I have yet to meet someone that wasn't helping or encouraging another during the times of greatest difficulty during an exercise. The typical session starts with a warm-up, again completed by everyone. Some days there is a training session in between that & the WOD, other days we just get right to it. The trainers Doug & Tara have a lot of experience and will assist you in scaling the exercises to your ability level but they'll also push you when you're not giving it your all. They genuinely seem interested in helping you reach your goals and realizing what you're truly capable of accomplishing. Each has their own area of expertise and they compliment one another. I am already a bit intimidated and nervous by the 6 week program I was there to discuss so you can imagine how surprised I was to be completely ignored at the front desk by 3 what I assume are employees because I would hope an owner would never blatantly disrespect potential clients. The oldest of the three was enjoying the sound of his own voice and literally never skipped a beat even when other clients walked in the door and stood at the counter behind me. He never acknowledged our presence at all until a trainer from the back of the room called out to him to which his answer was, "Ok, yeah I got it, I got it!" Only he didn't. He kept on talking to the other two who never seem to notice we were there either. I walked out of there. I'm pretty sure there are tons of other places that would be more than happy to take my money. I guess CrossFit is uninterested in new clients if they leave this bunch out front to represent them. What a joke.

Firstly the space is very big and super clean. Everyone in the gym respects each others space and the next people that will arrive. They are always wiping down the weights, bars, pads, ect. Basically anything that might be touched gets wiped down. The office is clean and organized. They have refreshments for sale. They always have hand sanitizer available. There's a bathroom to wash your hands and wipe off. They have the space sectioned for covid which is great. The work out area is huge and has everything you need for your work out. They have lots of parking and an easy online sign in app. The work outs are great and intense. They have a strength portion and hiit portion which I love. I love that you get a mix of both and they are not overly pushy about increasing weight. They always take time to demonstrate the moves. They constantly walk around to ensure form is followed correctly. They encourage you to give it your all but they don't put you down for going at a level your comfortable in. The music is really good and motivating. The classes are affordable and you can choose a variety of packages to fit your budget/ lifestyle. I highly recommend checking them out. They are absolutely fantastic. Also say hi to Minnie the office mascot.

One day I decided to see what this Orangetheory Fitness was all about. I walked in and I was…read moregreeted by a lovely staff. Unfortunately I suck at remembering names. Anyway she had set me up to come back for a free class. The very next day I took a class with Coach Sarah. Oh boy was that class intense. I walked out there like WTH was that. Somehow I signed up with Makayla. Now I'm thinking Jatara why would you sign up you know you don't work out often. I went home and told me husband that I signed up for Orangetheory and he laughed. Six months later as I write this Review Orange Theory has truly changed my life. I love the fact the you can attend any Orangetheory in the world still brings music to my ears especially us Yelpers who are always traveling. I love the whole concept about splat points and staying in the Orange (hint that's why it's called Orange Theory) So basically you need to get 12 or more splat points by staying in the Orange zone, if you reached 12 or more points by the end of your 60 minute workout you will burn 20% of the calories you burn throughout the day. So that's Orangetheory in a nutshell. You are never in competition with anyone but yourself. At this particular location the staff and the coaches are awesome. I usually attend the 5:00 am class, the head Coach Melissa usually teaches that class or Danny. Melissa is awesome no matter where she is she can see what's going on and assist you if you are not doing it right which most of the time I'm not (that's why I'm there, much needed guidance). I know people complaint about the prices but I think it's worth every penny, you get the workout that you need and the attention of a coach to teach you how to do it correctly. Your basically paying for a personal training all in one. I love how this location is so personal it makes you feel like you are part of a family. I'm still quite and really don't speak much because I'm just not in a speaking mood at 5am. Well actually all the location make you feel like part of a family. I'm always at some other location, but this is my home gym and because of them I'm addicted to Orangetheory Fitness. At this location I took classes with Head Coach Melissa, Danny, Sarah and Emily. There are other location I have been to and I literally avoid going at certain times because of some coaches playlist yes playlist, you need good music to workout and these coaches here always have a good playlist, but for Stony Brook it doesn't matter who I sign up with or what time I go. I'm getting quality coaching from all and a great playlist. I like the fact that they keep is fun and challenging at the same time. They use IG that's Instagram ( which is new to me ) to keep us updated on all the events and other stuff happening for that month. They also have a app so you can book your classes in advance and see your progress as well. So bottom line, do I recommend OTF? Absolutely!!!!!!

NYSC in Nesconset has a gym bully who goes by the name of Andrew or "Andy" for short. He is a white…read moremale about 5'10" who usually wears a black tshirt, gray sweatpants, a black Yankee hat, and over ear wireless headphones (photo attached). "Andy" does not work at NYSC, but you wouldn't know that if you saw him at the gym. He hangs out at the "Fitness Help" station and approaches everyone in the middle of their work outs, more often than not to insult, intimidate, or police their behavior. This morning I was in the middle of my squat set, and he chastised me to "put the weights back on the rack." In the middle of my set. I was confused and asked if he worked there. He said no. I watched him circumnavigate the gym floor over the next hour, interrupting and policing others' work outs. When I said something to the man at the front desk, he told me "yeah that's Andy, he's been coming here for years." I was perplexed as to why the staff was allowing this man to masquerade as a NYSC employee and badger their paying customers. NYSC corporate should be aware that this man is harassing their members. I am cancelling my membership to ALL NYSC/BSC/WSC locations and am telling my friends to do the same. I will not return so long as "Andy" is at the gym policing everyone's workouts.
