This was a last-minute getaway with some very unique circumstances, and Amy handled everything with such care, thoughtfulness, and expertise. She not only made it all come together seamlessly, but also saved us a few thousand dollars by choosing the perfect hotel and ideal travel dates. From the very beginning, we felt completely taken care of--and that feeling stayed with us the entire trip. What could have been stressful turned into something incredibly special. The experiences she planned were beyond anything we could have imagined. We spent our days laughing, bonding, and trying new things--ziplining through the jungle, ATVing through forests and shallow rivers, and even swimming half a mile through a breathtaking cenote. We saw dolphins and sea turtles, visited a beautiful Mayan village, and enjoyed some of the most authentic and delicious Mexican food we've ever had. There were also so many magical, unexpected moments--like spending time with monkeys and deer, and even spotting a massive wild stingray. Every day felt like something out of a dream. What meant the most to us, though, was how safe we felt the entire time. As someone who is usually a very nervous traveler, I can honestly say I felt completely at ease. Amy created an experience that was adventurous and exciting, yet always grounded in a deep sense of safety and trust. This truly was a trip of a lifetime, and we are so grateful to Amy for making it possible. Amy planned an amazing family trip to Europe a few years ago, so of course we had to go back and ask her to help us again! We went to Venice, Florence, Bologna, Milan, and Mykonos. As always, Amy was courteous, professional, quick to respond, and catered the trip around its purpose, which was to celebrate a graduation. She answered all of our questions and concerns. We wanted a more relaxed trip than last time, so we opted to choose our own activities, but asked Amy to help us book them. This time we needed quite a few train tickets to navigate through Italy, and Amy chose great ones. I was stressed about our luggage and how we would watch/store it, etc, but we were able to put all our luggage above our seats and didn't have to worry about anything. Once again, Amy arranged private transfers to/from the airports/hotels for us. All of the hotels were in amazing locations within easy walking distance to great sights and great food. One of the hotels was a bit outdated, butwas built in the 1700s and is probably extremely difficult and expensive to modernize. The location was just down the street from the Duomo though. Honestly, could not get better than that. Overall, trip was so much fun and relaxing. Venice was a sleeper hit. We all wished we had more time there. Taking the vaporetto in was an experience! Very cool and convenient to take it straight to the hotel as well. It was really great to spend more time in Florence and get to wander and see the city. Some of us went to the top of the dome of the Duomo, view was amazing. The climb was intense though! Bologna food tour was incredible!!! Definitely want to go back and eat literally everything. Milan was a good pit stop and we wished we had gotten tickets to see inside the Duomo.  Mykonos was beautiful and the transfer company was great. Super nice and we used them for taxi service as well. Hotel had a free shuttle to and from Mykonos town until 9pm. The catamaran tour was beautiful, amazingly relaxing, and one of the highlights of Greece. It wasn't super windy that day, so it was basically perfect! Only bump was that 2 days before we left we were trying to check in for the flight home and it said there was an issue and talk to the travel agent. I reached out to Amy and we found out that one of the airlines we were using to get home had cancelled the flight without notifying her or us of the change. Definitely not what we wanted to hear right before we needed to fly back. But Amy was fantastic. She told us don't worry, this was why we had an agent, it was her job to worry about everything and that we just needed to enjoy our last day. Amy got back to me pretty quickly (all things considered) and had booked new flights for the 8 of us. And even though we weren't sitting 8 together, she was able to get us seats of 4 and 4 close to each other. It was still a little stressful waiting to see if we were stranded or not, but nothing in comparison to if we'd had to do all of that ourselves. Thank goodness for Amy and travel insurance!!! It was daunting to plan an Italy trip on our own so my husband and I reached out to Planet Hoppers / Amy Tan. We had about 5-6 months' lead time before we wanted to travel on our first European vacation. We appreciated Amy's quick responses throughout the planning process. Once we filled out the "interest form" on her website, we were quickly on a call to describe our inspiration, must-sees, likes, dislikes, and other pertinent information. Her love of travel was obvious in our conversation. She asked us the types of hotels we like (boutique, etc). She asked how we like to travel (we prefer one activity a day). For Amy to put together an itinerary after the initial call, there was an up-front charge which can be applied towards the trip if we chose to hire Amy and spend a certain amount of dollars. We liked Amy on the phone and decided to proceed. Amy outlined an itinerary (cities, possible activities) for us based on the amount of travel time. From there, we communicated via her online travel platform/tool and email to say "yes" or "no" to activities / tours, hotel suggestions, airlines, and more. This process was straightforward. We went back and forth until we had an itinerary with hotels, transfers, activities, airlines, and more that suited us. Amy's experience with timing also was useful - how long it would take to transfer from hotel to airport, etc. One thing to note is that Amy doesn't book restaurant reservations, but that turned out OK for us to just book on our own based on TripAdvisor recommendations. Amy provided tips on traveling internationally for us. She was quick to respond to our questions in the months leading up to the trip. When needed, she called or texted me. We knew we wanted travel insurance which Amy also recommended. Her invoice system is good in that we can pay online with our credit card(s). There were some charges paid to Planet Hoppers, to Viator (tour companies aggregator), and to the airline. We were all set for our trip, but had an unexpected family situation occur about two weeks prior. We explained the situation to Amy and with a few days before our trip, Amy helped us make adjustments to the itinerary. Amy made necessary adjustments to our air and cancellations. Amy came to the rescue when a rebooked connecting flight got cancelled the day before travel. I can't tell you how valuable it was not to worry about the details. Amazing service. Leading up to and during our trip, Amy kept us updated when a tour operator changed plans. We also contacted Amy a few times during our trip to cancel a transfer, for example, because we decided to walk between our hotel and the train station instead. Done with ease! After our trip, Amy provided all the information we needed to file a claim with the travel insurance because of our itinerary change (which was covered). So helpful. I know that many people plan and book vacations on their own, but for us, having a knowledgeable and communicative travel specialist was key. Easy to talk with. Accommodating to our needs (unexpected ones too). We definitely will contact Amy again in the future for vacations that are outside of our comfort zone to plan. Can't wait until next time! read more

Amazing, amazing, amazing! And then our 7-night cruise began. This was our third Celebrity Cruise and we knew we wanted Celebrity again. But nothing prepared us for the Celebrity Edge! For years we've been fortunate enough to take at least one holiday a year and spend it overseas. 3 years ago we met Amy. Naturally, we were very skeptical at first about using someone to book our travel since we figure with all our experience on our own. That year, we wanted to go to see the temples in Angkor Wat Cambodia and Halong Bay in Vietnam; with an extended layover on the way home (which happened to be South Korea that trip). Many times you speak to people about travel and places in the world to visit, and you get the vibe that they know enough about the country from booking travel to answer basic questions, but they really don't know about the countries you want to visit. But from the get go, you can tell Amy knows about travel. She understands what goes through a typical travelers head and addresses areas you want to thinking about, even if you haven't thought about them yourself. And most importantly, when you're booking travel with someone, you want to feel like they know something about it. That they didn't just read about it in a book. And Amy's very well traveled. She will definitely give you insight on the things that are worth seeing and spending money on, and things that may be over-hyped or overpriced. In addition, she always keeps what you want to do in mind and doesn't fight you on it. She just tries to make it work. This year, my wife and I got married and wanted to spend our honeymoon in Singapore, the Maldives, and Bali. Amy and I talked about our criteria which was adventure and a hut over the water and the time span we were traveling. And while she had suggested Bora Bora and Tahiti for an overwater hut, my wife really wanted to go to Bali. Rather than trying to convince us out of the Madives/Bali trip we wanted, she just gave her best to make it work. In the end, it was a fantastic trip. One that me and my wife will remember forever. And even though our one week in Bali definitely felt really short (as Amy suggested it would), she didn't push us in any direction away from what we wanted. She really understood what we wanted and tried to enhance that trip and experience in any way she could. And if we didn't like a hotel or a location of it, she didn't take offense to it, she just got us what we wanted. And we're so thankful for that. Lastly, Amy's efficient. Both my wife and I work in the Silicon Valley. We're really busy with work. And even though we're experienced travelers, just the time involved would be extremely overwhelming to plan on our own. Amy makes the process really easy. She takes the time to understand what your looking for, gives you expectations when she'll get back to you with something preliminary, and it's a very responsive back and forth dialogue via e-mail to get the job done. And at the end of the day, she saved us hours of time, lent her vast experience of travel knowledge, and ultimately saved us money; as we always do our due diligence to see if we could have done it more inexpensive on our own (which versus Amy, we never can). I found Amy through Yelp and I'm so glad we decided to use her!! We told Amy our budget, the places we wanted to go to, and the things we wanted to do and she whipped up an itinerary. We were nervous at first because we didn't know what to expect but SHE THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING! We didn't feel like foreigners (even though it was obvious) and our whole trip was nearly effortless. From transportation to and from hotels and airports, and private drivers and tours, she is amazing! I cannot boast about her enough! What we really enjoyed is our private tour guides and drivers. We didn't have to board on a tour bus or wait for other tourists - we felt pretty VIP lol. I must let her know that our tour guides were amazing!! Another thing we were grateful for was booking our private plane rides to and from our resort in El Nido. Our itinerary was our ticket everywhere. It felt good to not have to think and just show up :) Amy has great talent and is very detailed oriented. She constantly keeps an open line of communication and ensures our safety. After reading several positive reviews of Planet Hoppers, I decided to use Amy for the first time as my agent to plan my vacation trip to Japan. Granted, I am an experienced traveler going to Japan, having lived there for 1.5 years prior. But I wanted to see what Amy could come up with. Contacting Planet Hoppers and working with them has been a pleasure. Amy was quick to respond and got me my desired itinerary within 2 days even though I was planning a last-minute trip to Japan for vacation. Amy is patient and listens to her customers precisely regarding their desired spots to visit. For me as a customer, I value both pre-sales and post-sales experience. And unfortunately, I encountered a medical emergency that required Amy's assistance to cancel and refund some of the trip itineraries. Amy was extremely professional and helped me out a lot in this important post-sales aspect. She has garnered my trust. I do have to say that Planet Hoppers's service fee is not cheap, as it is $600 every time for planning a trip. For me, I probably would use Amy in the future for destinations that I have never been since she did a wonderful job planning for a place that I have had so much experience in. I can trust her that she will help me get the best traveling spots and experiences that I seek. I do recommend Planet Hoppers's service in that aspect of planning for a trip to a place that you have never been. Amy's expertise would be invaluable there. read more

We just returned from our trip to Europe and we are very pleased with the top notch spacious hotel and cruise accommodations she was able to get us. We have a small toddler so it complicated planning especially for river cruising which often times do not accept small children. I was impressed with the way she can plan around the fixed river cruise itinerary to add in a day after the cruise to spend in Versailles, France where my wife very much wanted to go but the cruise itinerary did not allow because it was closed on the day the ship docked close to there. Amy proved that she is knowledgeable in various modes of transport such as plane, bus, private car, ferry, etc. to get us to the right place and on time. Amy is very enthusiastic and a pleasure to work with to remove the stress of planning. I would not hesitate to get her help again and recommend her to my friends. read more

Amy is a great resource for planning your travels! I didn't think we needed a travel agent in this day and age, but she definitely provided a lot of help and made it easier to plan our vacations. Why make things harder on yourself when you don't have to? Especially when you're planning fun vacations! :) We have worked with her multiple times for different destinations, to Taiwan, Australia, and a few different cruises. We always have a thousand questions and requests, and she is patient to work with us, stays on top of things, and satisfies all our demands. We are impressed by her knowledge of different places and her suggestions always turn out to be fun! Also, I like that we can do all our planning through email, without having to schedule in-person appointments. 5 stars all the way and highly recommended! read more

A long overdue review for Amy! My friend and I wanted to plan a once in a lifetime trip to Europe. Unsure of where to start and how much to spend, we contacted Amy. After giving Amy an idea of our budget and types of attractions we would like to see, Amy gave us a thorough breakdown of cities, flights, trains, and hotels. We made several adjustments to our itinerary and Amy was nothing but patient and helpful each time. :) We had a blast in Europe for 3.5 weeks, with almost no hiccups with any of our reservations. We did have an incidence in Nice when the hotel booked us for only one night, instead of three...but it was fixed on the spot. Our first time using a travel agent and Amy was amazing! Our 3 weeks in Europe, Italy and France, were smooth especially during Covid. Everything was ready to go and all of Amy's selections of hotels and places to go were perfect and convenient. Her suggestions were great! And the best part was that we needed her a couple of times while we were in Europe and the time difference was 9 hours ahead and she still answered really quickly. We had an issue with covid testing and thought we were going to miss our flight to Italy, well Amy quickly found us another place that was opened. I just got back from Cancun and I had the time of my life. I was really nervous about taking this trip since it was my first international trip. Working with Amy made the whole planning experience a less less stressful. She was able to save me a ton of money over me trying to put the itinerary together myself. The hotel we stayed at was perfect. Directly overlooking the ocean. I couldn't believe how efficient Amy was at handling my trip when she was traveling herself. She made sure she stayed on top of me moving forward with booking otherwise she knew the prices would go up considerably since she knew people were going to start booking everything up within a few days. I am a very detail-oriented person who has always planned my own vacations, but for my honeymoon, I wanted to work with someone to take some of the stress of planning both a wedding and vacation... enter Amy! Being so Type A, I was armed with questions and very specific on my needs and wants. Amy was incredibly patient with me and walked me through the entire travel agent process and offered advice on how to make my dream honeymoon happen. As we continued working together, Amy created the perfect itinerary and was always happy to tweak anything we felt we wanted to be changed. We went through a few iterations until we were 110% happy. The amount of research she put in, to not only the activities but also the resorts and hotels was amazing and we felt like we were making very informed decisions about where to stay and what to do. Fast forward to a month before we are set to leave (January 2020) and COVID starts to take off in Asia (our honeymoon was Cambodia, Thailand, and the Maldives). Naturally, we were worried, how is this going to work, what if we get stuck, etc. Once again Amy was patient and available whenever we wanted to talk. She explained the situation (she was in Thailand at the time) and walked us through our options. We went back and forth about changing our flights out of HK and finally decided to do it. Amy never got frustrated with us and took everything in stride. Furthermore, she worked hard and followed up diligently with Cathay to get us our refunds (they were backlogged) for up to 2 months after our return. Our actual honeymoon went on without a hitch. We had the most incredible time and it was the perfect combination of active, nature, culture and relaxation. We were able to see all the cultural and heritage sites we wanted, ate amazing food, had a jam-packed itinerary of fun activities and ended on an amazing resort in the Maldives with an incredible manta ray diving experience. It was the best travel experience of my life so far, and we were thrilled we decided to go with Amy. We will definitely be using her in the future and recommend her strongly to anyone looking for a travel agent. read more

Maybe I'm the outlier of this group but I didn't get the best prices/itinerary when I tried to work with Amy on a 3 week trip to Vietnam. I listed out all the cities we wanted to visit and explained that we could splurge in a couple of spots and wanted to just get good value overall on our trip. Amy came back after talking to her Vietnam team with a rough itinerary and a price which is higher than what we were hoping for. I did a bunch of research and made some alterations/suggestions and Amy said thanks and she'll rework the itinerary and get back to us soon with a new price. Over a week passes and in the meantime, I've pretty much done a bunch of research and was able to book almost everything myself at better hotels and at a lower price. I emailed to let her know and she was polite about it and said that they were just very busy at that time (this was mid/late June 2009). Maybe they've staffed up a bit more now, but I think I'll continue to do my own travel research in the future. read more

The place is a bit difficult to find as it's not listed in the bill board leading to the parking lot, so you need to know exactly where you're going. The place was closed but the note on the door said that any deliveries should go next door. I tried my luck next door and asked if they knew when Planet Hoppers is open. A guy said that the owner is actually in the back and that he'll go get him. The guy then came out a minute later telling me to just send them an email... I drove for 10 miles to be told to send them an email when someone was in the back... Needless to say, I would not be using their services. read more

Like many other reviewers, Amy sent a quick and courteous reply to my email requesting rates for flights from SFO to Hong Kong and Shanghai. I was hoping to get good rates on these flights, based on other reviewer's comments about her ability to give them great deals. My luck was not so good - her reply merely stated that "unfortunately we don't offer air only itineraries." I'm a young traveler, having been overseas shy of 10 times, but what kind of travel agency doesn't book air-only itineraries? This was not stated anywhere I could easily find on their website or the reviews. Just a heads up for those who are trying to do something similar. I would still be willing to give PH another shot if I am looking for air+hotels in the future, but it's likely I'm just going to find another agent that is willing to book just my flights. -THW read more

I was trying to book a very complicated, multi-country trip to Europe this summer. Even though I never used one before, I thought I would try using a travel agent, as surely they would have all the info I needed (particularly train schedules!) I found the great reviews here and so I contacted Planet Hoppers through their website as indicated. A week went by. No response. I tried again. No response! Not even a "we're busy and will get back to you shortly" response. What BS! I just did the research myself all on the internet and we had a fantastic time in England, France, Italy and Switzerland. So forget them and their useless, non-existent service. If you are running up close to your departure date, don't bother! I guess this is why this industry is dying: all this research is available for free on the internet now; why would you wait around for people that clearly don't want your business??? read more

Amy is so AWESOME! She is PATIENT and UNDERSTANDING! I needed airline tickets to Rome in 4 days for my honeymoon and she made it happen. Plus, she was able to book us a hotel (it was a GREAT hotel, btw). My bank was really complicated and other things were getting complicated that we had to email and call each other back and forth. I was really surprised she didn't hang up the phone on me with frustration. Instead of getting upset like I thought she would, she actually understood what was going on and was really nice the whole time. I'm really glad she was able to make our honeymoon happen in such a short period of time. I will definitely call her again for my future trips and recommend her to everyone I know. read more
