I was referred to Erin by a friend many, many years ago. Im super picky about my blonde hair, (my friend more-so), but she told me Erin was the ONLY person she would let touch her hair so I gave her a shot. She has now been doing my hair ever since. Erin is always so friendly and sweet and my hair comes out better and better each time. I have seen some of the work she has done in different competitions she's won all over the US and am astonished at how she does what she does! She is truly brilliant at color. Joelle = best haircut of my life!!! I love dying my hair and often neglect trimming it or really taking care of it. Through many recs, I decided to see Joelle. Thank goodness I did... Why I love Joelle: -she first asked what I wanted -she walked me through exactly how she planned to cut it and pointed out where the pieces were truly dead and where there was opportunity to add layer so it wouldn't be less flat in the back -she recommended a filtered shower head for me to help protect my hair -she then explained how hair grows, why my hair wasn't growing as fast as I would have liked, and provided personalized suggestions to support my hair health. I am really bummed to have to leave Planet Salon a negative review after a decade+ of coming here (see my previous rave reviews!). I still think they have great stylists, but the customer service has dropped so drastically in the last couple years that it's not worth it to keep coming back. I recently tried to book an appointment for a cut and color, and was told by Victor at the front desk that he couldn't book me, my stylist Sam would call me, and then an immediate disconnected line. Weird, but okay. Sam did call me back that evening, and told me that since I'd placed a credit card chargeback on my previous charge (a fee for an appointment I had to cancel list minute), they could no longer see me as a client. I had no idea what he was talking about, since I'd not only paid that late fee but had even had a full conversation with the front desk when I was canceling to please charge the cancellation fee, since my colorist had already waived it for me one other time the year prior. Sam said he'd look into what happened, and I said I'd do the same - I've been at the same salon for more than 10 years with zero issue, there is no benefit to me trying to cheat a business that I go to regularly. When I asked Sam why no one called me to let me know there was an issue, he said the salon policy was just to drop clients if they issue chargebacks. Again, I've been coming here for over a decade, stuck with Planet even after my stylists moved away, and referred business to them. A quick phone call - even an accusatory one! - could have cleared this up right away. Sam said he'd call me back after researching more, but the whole thing left such a sour taste in my mouth about being treated like a criminal by Victor, and the lack of communication from the salon itself, that I decided to move on. If this was the first issue, I would have worked with them to resolve it, but there have been similar communication issues with the front desk in the past and it's just not worth it to pay this much money and be treated like a grifter. I will say that I had zero issues with my stylist and colorist (Sam and Heather), who are kind, professional, and extremely talented. read more

Sher is the coolest hair stylist I have ever had. She has cut and colored my hair at least 4 times over the past year, at one point red! These days we are focusing on making me blonder and blonder. I especially love the texture she gives my hair. Everyone is friendly at this salon. I have felt very intimidated in salons before but this one is much more chill. As a relative newbie to LA, I'm so happy to have found the perfect salon. I've always loved an Aveda salon, so I did my research and chose Planet Salon. I'm so happy I did! I love Aveda products and service, but what I really keep coming back for is the amazing Sher!! I tell everyone who will listen that Sher gave me the best cut of my life last year. She was able to give me exactly what I'd been envisioning for years, but didn't quite know how to articulate. She is such a great listener, so kind and collaborative, and really took her time to explain how to care for and style my new hair. The salon itself is clean, modern, and beautiful. Every staff member is super sweet and helpful. Lots of metered parking nearby, and it's on Melrose, so you can walk up and down and visit all the fun vintage shops while showing off your new hair. read more

I am actually so disappointed in the amount of money I spent for a brassy Orange hair color and dried up hair. Wanted a balayage with highlights and it ended up straight up flat orange. I was told it was the only option if I wanted to lighten my hair from brown to blonde/beige but I've had this done many times and this just isn't true! I also asked for an A line cut and the stylist cut it straight across. I had beautiful long hair and was not expecting her to chop half of it off (she said majority was dead). Everyone has been asking why they messed my hair up so bad and why I didn't say anything at the time, but I just didn't want to be rude after hours of her work. The stylist seemed extremely distracted with her personal life and I just went along with it. Definitely regret and will need to go to Aveda to have the color corrected next time. Spent crazy amount of money here, never spent that much on my hair and I've had amazing work done for half the price! Also wasn't even offered water and treaded through it there for hours, not a very good salon experience read more

I absolutely love this salon. When I moved from NYC 3 years ago, I dreaded trying another stylist. But Sam cuts my hair exactly the way I like it! I always leave feeling like a million bucks. Plus the place smells like Aveda products and never chemicals! I can go in feeling stressed and come out feeling (and looking!) so much better Update: 9/21/19: I am so happy with my new color from Planet Salon! When I came in, my hair was a nasty mess of dark roots, faded box color (eek!) that had grown out into an unnatural copper hue, and a ton of grays. I saw Heather for dual process and she did an overall rich brown, and added lowlights over half my crown for added dimension. I always go for a look that is as natural as possible, and I got exactly what I asked for. Additionally, I was able to close my eyes and relax to a scalp massage, hand massage, neck and shoulder massage, and got an added gloss treatment to make my hair super shiny. Last year Semur gave my daughter a wonderful color. She was thrilled with the results. It's time for touch up now, but we live in Alaska...So we called the salon and they emailed us the information for her toner. This way the local hairstylist can match the touch up. Had an okay experience there. I was getting a hair cut but I wasn't exactly sure of the length I wanted. I asked the stylist to try out an initial length and then possibly adjust it if I wanted it very slightly shorter. She said that she did not have time for any adjustments, so I would have had to come back for that. I was taken aback, usually stylists are a lot more flexible and understanding. I ended up leaving with a rushed haircut that I don't really like and now I'm just waiting for it to grow back. Please don't overbook your stylists and don't have them rush their work like this. read more

I wish I could give them zero stars. It is the worst hair salon I've ever been in and I'm really wondering how (and if!) their stylists got their certificates! What I wanted to do with my hair was the simplest thing ever (cutting my bang and shortening the length of my hair a bit). I showed the stylist (Joelle) several photos to make her understand what I want for the fringe. But she did not even pay attention to the pictures and cut my fringe way over my eyebrows when all of the pictures had fringe below the eyebrows. She claimed it was a misunderstanding. How can you misunderstand from photos!? Their stylists do not check with you and ask you if their doing towards what you want. They just do what they want and when they screw up they just apologize if you are lucky. They do not even know how to do a proper layering, probably the most basic thing in hair styling. Each part of my hair has a weird length and I do not know what to do now? I have to wait a whole year to grow my hair to the point I had before my appointment with Planet Salon. I just moved here this summer and had been avoiding getting my haircut because I've always had a hard time finding a stylist that cuts my hair right. I have curly hair that has a mind of its own and have had bad haircuts in the past because of this. I had been looking through reviews and prices for a few months and finally found a place that was reasonable for a cut and had a stylist that was recommended by other curly haired people. I was super happy with my cut from Joelle and she was very friendly and welcoming and her pricing wasn't outrageous. I felt very comfortable in her hands and my hair looked great after. I had a really disconnected layer that I thought looked terrible that she was able to blend and fix for me. She's really passionate about curly hair and I could tell she loves what she does. I've been going to Lauren for extensions for about 2 years and hope I never have to go to anyone else! I've had many types of extensions from many different stylists and no matter what I tried they would always fall out with my real hair and cause so much damage. Since Lauren started doing my hair I've only had 2 pieces tops slip out and that's because I really drag out the time between my appointment and my hair has never felt healthier!
