The first person who scheduled my appointment was nice, and got me the last appointment for the day after (Friday). However, when I went back the next day (took me one hour to get there), the person at the check in told me that they "tried to call me" to let me know that the physician "cancelled my appointment" for no reason (literally so irresponsible for a medical clinic that offers emergency contraception services and abortions)???????? They offered Monday which was way too late for me because I was in an emergency, so I'm possibly screwed over LOL. I checked my call logs and no one called me that whole day, so they were definitely lying to my face that they were trying to reach out to me. I'm so disappointed from the unprofessionalism from this Planned Parenthood, I expected so much better from them. Save your time and try literally any other option before you come to this one because this location is highly unreliable, and they only had one clinician working for the day I went in, so they're definitely short-staffed. read more

This place use to be great like 10 years ago. Not anymore. I was getting blood work here after accidentally pricking myself on a used needle. Before getting my blood taken, I noticed the nurse was committing some nasty health code violations so I asked her to do things differently. She reluctantly did. When I got my blood work results back, I noticed there was no test results for HIV. I spoke with the nurse who took my blood and she says she must have just forgot which made me very uncomfortable and I wonder if she did it intentionally. I went back to planned parenthood to get retested today. Their office changed locations in the same complex so I had to try to find it. After showing up and waiting multiple minutes at the counter with no one in line and the desk folks just chatting with each other, I was eventually helped. I was told since I was 3 minutes late, I wouldn't be helped and had to reschedule. I know it's ridiculous but I honestly feel like this business hates me. When you get tested by PP, they don't call you or send you the results. If you call for the results, they just say "yup, you're all good". Don't take their word for it. Double check they even tested you for everything you paid for. Super sketchy. I can't go back to this business. I need to find a new location for my HRT and blood work. read more

Had an absolutely amazing experience!!! I 100% recommend making an appointment and coming in. Staff were all so nice and comforting. I was extremely anxious at first but was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly my visit went. Was a little bit of a wait and I was unfortunately told they do not take any Kaiser insurance but it was fine I just paid out of pocket bc pricing was very affordable. I show up to get blood drawn. All my veins were hiding. First nurse Nancy gave it 2 tries. She wasn't able to, however she helped me feel really comfortable to have another try with second nurse. Been to a couple of Planned Parenthood, but this is the best one so far. The service is discrete, in a public location yet not flashy where it's like HEY LOOK AT ME I'M AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD JUDGE ME. The windows are fogged out so people can't look in or out. The waiting room is huge and clean with a tv to keep the waiters entertained or children, and a couple of random magazines. The staff at the front are welcoming and friendly, understanding and explains everything thoroughly to you. The anticipated wait.. I thought was going to take forever. But I had what I needed to do within the hour, filling out forms, tests results and consultation and all this WITHOUT an appointment. It's the fastest, the staff suggest that you give about 2 hours but you don't really need it. It's bart accessible just walk towards the plaza straight from bart and it's right between the JoAnn's Fabrics and Wing Spot, there's a sign so you can't miss it. This is by far my favorite location in the Bay Area. I'll list the reasons. - location blends in with the shopping center so you don't feel like everyone knows what your doing. I'm weird I hate ppl knowing or can assume what I'm doing. - lots of parking when it isn't the holidays - the waiting area isn't crowded. I think they really try to get people in and out as quick as possible. I have been on time for my last appointments and never had a long wait. - all the staff come with a smile and happy to please. Even the ones who check you in and out. Felt great. - they don't rush you for urine samples and offer water. - staff calls are pleasant - rescheduling an appointment within the next few days is usually good. I feel like other locations are pretty booked up. - omg the people who are against abortion, who stand out front and harass you. Guess what?! Not at this location!! Won't he do it? You can walk in and out with a breeze. If needed I will only be coming to this location. I suggest you do the same. read more

This Planned Parenthood rocks! Tanika, the first person I talked to at the front is really super lovely!!! Mia drew my blood perfectly. Normally it takes practitioners a couple pokes to get it right but she did it effortlessly and we were done quickly. Anna noticed something that I have tried to tell other doctors, to no avail. She immediately sent in a referral so I could see a specialist. Everyone here is super good at what they do! p.s. They are open one Saturday a month. read more

I've been coming to this location for almost 9 years, mostly for routine Check-ups. A few years ago I had a bladder infection from holding my urine in traffic 5 days a week. I had a severe fever and my kidneys started aching. They gave me antibiotics immediately with no hassle like I would face going into a Medi-Cal clinic (it would take hours just to see a doctor). The pain subsided immediately and they infection cleared fast. The nurses are always helpful and non-judgemental. Today my nurse (I don't know her name) was so informative and good at keeping me calm as I get anxious going to these places. When I check in, I normally wait about 20 mins before seeing a nurse. When I see my GP at a Medi Cal clinic, I have to wait at least an hour and the nurses or docs never listen to me and just prescribe unnecessary meds to dismiss me. PlannedParenthood is a god-send to people like myself that cannot afford decent healthcare. Even if you don't have health insurance, make that appt! You'll be pleasantly surprised. This is the only health care facility where I am listened to, heard and not treated like an annoyance. Don't listen to those far right people saying they are an abortion factory. This is far from true. As a matter of fact, this place is crucial. I tell everyone I care about to come here. Everybody deserves decent healthcare. Everyone deserves the right to basic health coverage. Anyone who is against this place is ignorant and evil in my opinion. read more

So I had insurance but recently lost my insurance in a transition of jobs. My previous doctor scheduled testing for August, so I decided to go to planned parenthood to get my vagina checked out. Jus sayin... Guys love their penis; I love my vagina. I take my body seriously so "free" healthcare always makes me a bit worried. I called and they said they only had an appt available for two days later, but when I called back a few hours later asking if there was a cancelation because I had just stopped dating someone, they accommodated me with a same day appt. I went to TJ's first to get Salami and snacks expecting a long wait, and when I walked in, they had Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on, which was followed by A League of Their Own, so I knew if I had to wait I'd be set. Ten minutes before my appt, they took me in, ran through my history and intake, gave me every STD test and culture imaginable, and let me pick which birth control I wanted! This included EVERY form of birth control available; IUD (copper and hormonal), pill, the shot (which is the one I decided to go with since the ring made me moody), implants... They gave me literature and handled those forceps with care, explaining everything they were doing. The negative reviewers seem to forget that this facility, which I have paid into and donated to, is completely free for people who qualify... I am extremely grateful for the peace of mind I have. They gave me a giant bag of condoms, lube, and free morning after pills that cost 60-80 dollars retail! Take care of your vagina here! It's a wonderful place where they sincerely care about your health in all aspects. read more

This is the holy grail of Planned Parenthoods. Having been to this and Golden Gate Community Health's MacArthur, Oakland location in the span of one week, the difference is night and day. This Planned Parenthood is located in a huge shopping center, so you may need to ask for directions even if you use Google Maps. It's tucked away on one side of Joann's. The shopping center means there's plenty of parking, and, oh yes, shopping. The staff is very sweet and helpful. They were playing Harry Potter in English with Spanish subtitles in the waiting room, which I thought was very considerate of Spanish-speaking patients. They were very mindful of privacy throughout, and the wait time wasn't bad at all - comparable to a regular medical office. Totally different from the other four PP locations I've visited in California - usually, you may as well set up a tent and a small campfire in the waiting room. Not here! Highly recommended and worth the drive if you are coming from Oakland, as I was. read more

Had an appt. at 8:30am this morning, but doors weren't unlocked until 8:30, which was a bummer since I showed up a little early to start paperwork (cold November chill has arrived). But the folks here were all very, very friendly, and since I was the first appt of the day, my wait time was really short. Waiting room was tidy, and they had a fun movie on to watch. The initial person that came in to see me (med asst?) was super nice in addressing some small concerns I had, and provided me with some referral services. The clinician/doctor that came in shortly after made the appt. super quick and painless (ladies, you know how awesome that is). As long as I'm in the area, I will continue going here. This was the first time I went to Planned Parenthood. I give them 5 stars. It's the first time I've had a good gynecologist's appointment. The PA was great and non-judgemental. They gave me what I wanted, which was birth control. They explained how to use the birth control, didn't push anything on me, and took my insurance, which was covered california. I was able to get an appointment same day. I will continue to go to them, they are close and convenient rather than having to schlep all the way over to UCSF Medical. read more

It is such a blessing that this place exists. I used to go to pp back in the day, when I was 18 to 20 and holding a crappy job... no money, etc., and I took it for granted! As the years went by, I've had all kinds of doctors, including Kaiser, and I have not been to PP in about 7 years. Today, I found myself back there, to get checked for something routine as well as a less routine problem. I have to admit, the waiting room could use some cheering up...but the tv was helpful and plenty of mags. The wait...well, it was not ideal for a working mom of three (time is money!)..but hey, you know what? I received the BEST DAMN CARE I have in the last 7 years. I don't know what it is about these ladies, but they truly seem to care about their patients, what they do, and how we (patients) feel. What a refreshing visit. They seem more like friends, concerned friends, who happen to have a lof of professional answers (unlike real friends)...and the authority, educations, and power to help you solve some tuff problems. They are discreet about financials, but everything regarding your medical care is right out there - no transparency. I LOVE IT. First time at this location! The staff was very friendly and supportive. I usually feel awkward at these appointments, but this one was fast and easy. I was able to leave the center with my medicine without having to go to a pharmacy to fill my prescription. Would definitely recommend this PP Center to anyone. Today was my second time visiting the El Cerrito Planned Parenthood. If it's possible to love a pap smear experience, this is it. I'm sitting here, hours later, still feeling warm and fuzzy about my appointment. First, the appointment was much shorter than I expected (less than an hour), but extremely thorough. The nurse practitioner I saw today was kind, professional, nonjudgmental, and attentive. In addition to the pap test, we managed to fit in some other tests/screenings and discuss birth control options. She was really helpful in answering all of my questions. Tell me how to receive treatment was really awful. A woman by the name of Don Weinstein treated me with the upmost disrespect that's a double pane did you get it? Not only was she in a bad mood when she came into the room and she proceeded to talk over me I tried to explain to her what was wrong with she proceeded to tell me that I didn't need to be there? This clinic is nicely hidden but easily accessible. Came not long after it opened and with only two people ahead of me, they got to me very quickly. The staff has very warm and friendly aura about them! They answered all my questions and seemed genuinely interested in giving me the best health care treatment. Made my first visit very pleasant. Very low quality doctors. The lady i got pissed me off because she wouldnt order me a urine culture. I told her i dont care i had 22 dollars order the culture and she just told me its not medically appropriate. She reluctantly gave me the test probably because she would be fired for not. Staff was nice. They should have switched me doctors because i had more questions about taking antibiotics home today. She had the nerve to tell me its not taco bell u cant just order what u want. I said heck i can thats for dam sure. Shes so full of herself she thinks shes more effective than a test. Good luck! Also yall should be very careful about what you do and say i do not know the legalities but if you recommend i dont get a test when i ask for one....and i end up having it.. in california im sure a lawyer out there would love to sue you read more

This place is THE best. I usually go to Women's Community Clinic in SF (also the best), but this is much closer and easier for me to get to. I was actually referred to the El Cerrito PP by WCC and am so glad I gave it a try. I've been here twice and both times was seen quickly and treated very well by the friendly, kind, and professional clinician and staff. It is also clean and a nice atmosphere (they actually have speakers playing ocean sounds inside-- yes). I'm very grateful this place exists. read more

I've been going here for a year for various health care needs and every single employee has been so caring, understanding, and accommodating. They are really upfront with policies and explaining things to you and give you other resources to check out. There are lots of options and free care if you're uninsured or low income. I never knew that I'd look forward to going to the doctor.... The customer service is outstanding, really. I just returned from my first appointment at this location and it was so incredibly pleasant. I HIGHLY recommend coming here for all your needs. I was well taken care of and felt like they really cared for me, especially by my nurse, Iris. She looked at me in the eye with such care and concern and without any judgment. I felt so comfortable with her. They were also very thorough. They went above and beyond and provided me with so much information. I left with a paper bag FULL of informational fliers, birth control, lubricant, 36 condoms, and emergency contraceptive. They even tested me for things I didn't come in thinking I wanted to be tested for at this appointment. Of course they didn't do anything without my permission, but I thought, why the hell not. They tested me for HIV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea when I just came in for a pap smear and birth control. They even did a breast exam on me. It was my first pap smear and the doctor walked me through the whole entire process before and during. She was wonderful! I got the whole treatment at my appointment and I couldn't be happier and feel healthier. Thank you to all the staff for being so thorough, thoughtful, and sweet! read more

I am SO happy that the formerly known Macarthur Planned Parenthood aka Golden Gate Community Health closed their doors! I don't know if they will remain closed but i will always pick driving across town to El Cerrito! Visiting the El Cerrito PP made me realize how truly abhorrent the Macarthur clinic was (and Eastmont for that matter). At both locations, you waited four hours for a scheduled appointment, were treated like dirt by the receptionist and were pushed in and out by the clinicians who never really listened to you. One clinician told me I was going to die when I had high blood pressure that kept rising because she kept freaking out on me (I have white coat blood pressure issues :) SO, Breath of fresh air at El Cerrito. The waiting room was clean, the staff were SO NICE! The Nurse Practitioner was personally connecting to me on more than just a medical level. They were efficient and thorough. I haven't been treated this kindly in a Doctor's office since 2002 (I don't have health insurance). Thank you!! read more

This is the only Planned Parenthood I've ever been to, but it's how I imagine every one should be and hopefully is. The only issue I ever had with this place was getting through to make an appointment. For some reason the first couple days I called (and believe me, I hounded their line like a mofo) I kept getting a busy signal. Fortunately this hasn't happened since. Once you get through to someone it's a regular cakewalk. The staff at the front desk is so helpful and friendly, whether on the phone or in person. The facility itself is clean and nice like you would expect of any doctor's office, and they always seem to have Harry Potter on while you wait (that's the sound of an extra star in your yelp review right there). The whole process is ridiculously easy, and everybody I've dealt with is incredibly kind, professional, and helpful. I absolutely would not hesitate to go back or to recommend this place to anybody I know. As it happens, I have a housemate on the phone with them right now. :) read more

The woman I worked with the majority of my visit is awesome. This review is not geared towards her whatsoever. She gets 5 stars! I wish the entire experience was as pleasant as working with her. Unfortunately it was not, I'm here to get an IUD put in and was instructed to remove the bottom half of my attire. I was told the clinician was finishing up with the person in front of me and would be in shortly. It's freezing and I've been sitting here for almost an hour! I also waited an hour in the lobby before being called to the back. I've been to other planned parenthood locations and although you may have to wait, it is no where near as ridiculous as this clinic. Mind you I had an appointment so there should be no reason to wait in the lobby for an hour prior to being seen or be sitting with my ass out waiting for the clinician. read more

This Planned Parenthood is AMAZING. Great location, private, welcoming and really informed and caring staff members and quick wait time! I am covered under the FPACT card (teal card) which is really a great card for those ladies out there with financial assistant needs or those who are young adults that need procedures taken care of without the knowledge of their parents. THIS CARD IS GREAT and covers alot of expensive services (checkups, birth control, IUD, STD testing) for FREE. I went in today to get a copper (paraguard) IUD. The staff was very helpful, offered me testing for every STD, offered a pregnancy test, and explained the process, the risks, and the side effects of IUD insertion perfectly. The MD I saw walked me through every step of the procedure, as well as reminding me of the risks and side effects. She expertly inserted it and has done thousands of these procedures over her 20 years of inserting these. Highly recommend coming here for an IUD! The staff I saw today was all female which also really put my mind at ease and made me feel safe and confident with my decision! I highly recommend this Planned Parenthood! read more

I want to share a resource that I have found very helpful. UCSF has a website, idmp.ucsf.edu/guidelines which will tell you the medication protocol for various issues. Doctors and Nurse Practitioners are often rushed and don't always know the proper protocols especially in regards to antibiotics. If you feel at all concerned about the treatment you are receiving, this is a great website to check and share with your doctor. It can help you prevent being overprescribed antibiotics which may have resistance issues. I would also suggest always asking for a culture to check for resistance to make sure you are getting the correct medication. read more

I am a huge fan of planned parenthood and the el cerrito branch is a great one. The staff is professional, courteous, and relaxed. I went in to get screened for STD's, and it was a relatively fast process. I was there for about an hour and 15 total, and this included talking at length with a counselor about birth control options. She was great. I wouldn't hesitate to go back, and would refer others to this branch as well! read more
