For 20 years of marriage my husband has said how he needs a boat, specifically a bass boat, so for his birthday, I decided to get him a boat. Then, I realized...I know ZERO about boats. I googled some places to buy boats & began visiting places. I wasn't very impressed. Most places had young kids working there who looked customers like annoying mosquitos. Me and the wife visited Plano Marine in Plano TX just to look at the G3 Sportman 18 or 19. Out walked Tommy Lassiter with a big old smile and gentle mannerisms. After looking and talking for a bit we settled on the 17 Sportsman. Tommy never tried to up sale us on a larger or more expensive boat. It was a very comfortable experience from beginning to end. PS. Zero stars for this marina. We purchased an 80k new boat and the mechanic blew up our alternator the day by attaching the battery backwards the day we purchased the boat. They said they cleaned the boat and they didn't. Gave poor instructions of how to use it and even gave us wrong cover for the boat ... sales rep jack is nice but that's it ! Don't buy. Over a year ago, I had a new motor put in my Chaparral inboard and have been back to the shop no less than a dozen times, frequently the day after receiving my "repaired" boat. Worst friggin' mechanics in the world. They have now had my boat for over four months to fix remaining problems and I assume I will never enjoy this boat again. It's time to let attorneys take over. I took my blazer bass boat to the Highport Marina location on Lake Texoma with a fuel delivery issue on my Yamaha that I couldn't figure out. The team was very nice and easy to work with, and they communicated everything with me very well during the process. They fixed my issue in one day and I was able ti pick my boat up and get back out on the water 2 days after dropping it off! I've never seen a better turnaround time for a marine service center, and they did outstanding work! The labor rate is a little high at $170 an hour per mechanic, but with a turnaround time that fast it's not that big of a deal. Most places that have a labor rate of $130-$150 an hour per mechanic are always at least 4-6 weeks out on even looking at your boat. They diagnosed the issue and fixed it quickly, and even with the high labor rate I left there only having to pay about $350. I cannot recommend the highport marina Plano Marine location enough, and they will have my business from here on out! 10/10 read more

I purchased a new 20' runabout from Plano Marine in 2006. Marco, the sales person, was excellent, but is no longer there. So the purchasing experience was great. They even drove to the lake to give me an on water demo. I normally do my own maintenance but took my boat in in 2007 for 100 hour maintenance and some warranty work. I left the boat for a week and they managed to damage the fiberglass and left the boat uncovered in a muddy lot. Even worse, after sitting there for nearly 2 weeks none of the original maintenance was done! I recommend the Chaparral brand and sales group but don't recommend using Plano Marine for service. read more

I have been a loyal customer of the Parts & Service department since buying our boat! I walked in yesterday afternoon to buy two small very simple parts as we are doing the spring service ourselves. Imagine how shocked I was when the Know-it-all clerk behind the parts counter told me that we were Idiots (My partner is a mechanic) because we were stupid and needed a new engine block. Really Sir? you are going to diagnose something sight unseen based on two small parts that I was hunting? Clearly this is why you are pushing the broom and sweeping up - as you aren't necessarily any type of technician! Plano Marine - this is actually unacceptable. Your business is probably 95% word of mouth and to have someone so ignorant and blatantly unqualified to speak with clients is a black stain on what has up until now been GREAT Customer service. I won't be back - and will take my money to another marine store. read more

Marine mechanics don't really set a high bar for expectations, but Plano Marine even under performs the majority of other shops. The customer service is pretty horrible, be prepared to call them consistently to ask about timeliness of service and then not have that timeline hit. Also expect to not get a call when your boat is ready. If you bring anything back to them that you feel might have been done improperly also get ready to be lectured or blamed for it, then charged again for them to do quality control. I won't be doing business with them again, and would advise anyone to stay away. At the end of the day you might get your boat back in order, but it's not worth the headache and cost. Find a better shop. read more

I purchased a NEW boat from Plano Marine in April 2012. Robert the sales person was great! He was very helpful and knowledgeable. Unfortunately after I bought my boat, the great feeling I had and the great experience COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED! Issue #1 - I had a 75 lb thrust Great White trolling motor installed. The technician bolted it to the boat with 1 inch self tapping screws. When I unloaded the boat for the first time, not even out of the Marina, it almost fell off the boat and would have fallen into the lake if the strap wasn't holding it down. Issue #2 - Tailoring the boat to go fish and the head of THE SAME TROLLING MOTOR falls off! I had driven 5 miles! I call Plano Marine and I am told I have to take it to AllStar Marine because they service warranty items. This didn't make since to me since Plano Marine had improperly installed it and didn't check their work to make sure it was operating properly not me! But I gave in and took it up there. I ended up having to leave the boat there for a week and then was charged $90! Which is issue #3. ISSUE #3 - Why in the heck did I have to pay $90 for Plano Marines mistake?!? Plano Marine still hasn't reimbersed me the $90. ISSUE #4 - Weeks later of tailoring the boat back and forth to Plano Marine and All Star (Warranty Company) I finally think the issues are over. I take the boat out to fish a few WEEKS MAYBE A MONTH LATER because of all the slow and poor installation performed by Plano Marine; and the Trolling motor doesn't even work properly! ISSUE #5 - When I took the boat back to Plano Marine to have the new trolling motor mounted to the boat I expressed to them my concern that the boat was taking on too much water and the speedometer isn't working. The live well is dry and the battery/fuel compartment is dry and the plug is brand new. They said they would perform a pressure test and assess any leaks. I get the boat back, put it in the water and guess what...IT'S STILL TAKING ON WATER! I'm not talking a little bit I'm talking about so much water that if I didn't have the batteries plugged in all the time because it's stored on the water the boat would probably sink because the bilge constantly goes off! ISSUE #6- Again, they get the boat and tell me that the live well hose was leaking and they think they have resolved the issue. Guess what...IT'S STILL TAKING ON WATER, THE SPEDOMETER IS STILL NOT WORKING AND WE HAVE ANOTHER NEW ISSUE! THE LIVE WELL WON'T FILL! It has now been a week since Plano Marine has had my boat again for what, the 3rd time and the Owner told me he has been too busy with the Boat Show to work on my boat. Seriously! After going through this for almost a year that's how you show your customer service! Everytime Plano Marine "works" on my boat they don't fix the original issue and only create more. I absolutely DO NOT recommend anyone purchase a boat from Plano Marine unless you want countless headaches, terrible customer service after you sign on the dotted line and for your cost of ownership to skyrocket because the service technicians do not know what they are doing. All my boat has done for a year is sit at their shop and come back to me with more issues than what it went in with! I do however recommend G3 boats, the Warranty Manager there actually listened to what I had to say treated me like a valuable customer. Which in fact I had the pleasure of talking to after the Owner said he would call me and fill me in when in fact he called her to "deal" with me. Great place to buy a buy a boat! Tommy is the best salesman and Jarred the best sales manager. Very easy to work with and they stand behind their word. BTW, there are many more used pontoons in stock than what I saw on-line. I suggest if you want a used pontoon go visit Tommy. I would give them zero stars if I could. Showed up to look at a Searay 26' and the interior had a ton of stains, the A/C control unit was broken and hanging off the wall and the mattress was missing. I negotiated they fix all that and two weeks later it still wasn't ready, they told me they couldn't give me a delivery date. During the waiting period I noticed the boat was advertised with a windlass anchor but there wasn't one installed. I contacted them and they said there's a disclaimer on the bottom of the page and what's listed on boat trader is not what's always installed. I gave them the option to install one for the asking price and I would still take the boat, they refused. They're asking full retail for boats that are in poor condition. This place is shady and very slow so take your business somewhere else! read more

Wow! Words can't express how thankful I am for Plano Marine. My husband has a Polaris flat bed boat that is being used for the hurricane rescues. We thought something was wrong with the oil so he went to get the oil fixed before going participate in the rescue operation. When he went there they realized it was that the oil was overfilled but that the whole lower motor needed to be replaced. Cabelas recommended Plano Marine and they are certified Polaris repair people. They told us they were a month out. I called all around and that was the normal turn time (or better). I called Plano Marine and begged (my family is stuck in the Houston flooding). Plano Marine kicked butt and got a miracle pulled off in 48 hours. I don't know how they did it but they did. I know they had to pull some strings and work harder than normal. I will forever be grateful. read more

Hello potential customers of Plano Marine. I wanted to give you an idea of how I was treated as a customer. I purchased a pre-owned Chaparral 300 and Greg Ray was who I dealt with. I need to say up front that I live in the Denver area of Colorado so Plano Marine is not a local dealership for me. The Chaparral was the boat we were looking for, however. After going through the back and forth that comes with these deals, we agreed on a price for the boat along with a substantial list of repairs and upgrades that the service department of Plano Marine would be doing as part of the price I paid for the boat. While I have all of the documentation and pictures (which I will be happy to share to anyone who is interested) the bottom line is that Plano Marine lied to me. They lied about the repairs they performed (including the starboard engine being stuck in forward), they lied about full camper canvas being included, the black tank was leaking in 3 places, the underwater lights they 'installed' was wired in such a way that had I left them connected would have burnt my boat to the waterline. The waterlines in the boat were so full of mold that they all needed to be replaced. In all of this, Plano Marine has been unresponsive. I can't say that your experience will be similar to mine, but buyer beware. read more

I needed a new Fulton trailer jack for my old boat. I took the old part with me and stopped in on my way downtown to a big parts store. The guys in the parts department looked at what it was and then decided to take it further apart to see if they had the part needed. A couple of trips out to the shop and they not only had the needed part but reassembled the unit for me at no additional charge. Saved me a two hour trip and a lot of hassle. Buyers BEWARE! From start to finish the entire process of purchasing a new 2016 Nauticstar from Plano Marine has been a disaster. Our sales guy, Jared, makes promises then denies that he told you. Before the purchased went down I had specific questions. Whether the boat came with a transom saver? Bimini top? Boat cover? I was specifically told yes to all three. Now once the boat was purchased it took multiple days to get it ready, I was understanding of this process as it was the beginning of July. However, no transom saver until we called and demanded that it be given to us as promised. The boat cover that was all balled up and put in the back seat of my truck was torn all the way across the center console area and back seat. We explained this to Jared immediately after getting home and he said he would order a new boat cover. This came in and was the wrong size. Jared told us to try it anyway, so we did, still didn't fit. So then they ordered a new one In the correct size, which took a little while to come in. But I don't want to forget to mention that the Bimini top when picked up did not have the correct cover on it either. Matter of fact it was for a Chaparral Boat, therefore it wasn't big enough for our top. So again we spoke to Jared about this and he had to order a new cover. THEN the disaster really happens!! In April 2017, just 8 short months later our gel coat all around the bottom floor cracked. We took it in and was told the gel coat only has a 30 day warranty by Jared but Nauticstar should cover the repair. GREAT NEWS RIGHT? WRONG! After FOUR weeks of being at Plano Marine and multiple calls and promises that it would be started the next week we finally got the real story. The service guys said their fiberglass guy was not confident in doing this type of repair but if he did would only warranty for 90 days. Then we were told by service that one of three things can happen, but Benny the owner would have to speak with Nauticstar. We were either going to have it repaired by their fiberglass guy, send it back to Mississippi for the factory to repair or a new boat in place of ours. But we were told Benny would call us that afternoon....no call and Benny left before 2pm. Then after multiple calls and then going up face to face I was told "it's just cosmetic it doesn't affect the way your boat floats." Sure they may be right, but I didn't purchase a $40k boat with cracks in the floor either. Then the service guy finally got on the phone with Benny and then proceeded to tell me that our boat was going to Mississippi, but it would be after Labor day or Thanksgiving sometime in the winter before they send it back. Keep in mind this is after the one year warranty expires. I was told that it would be impossible and Nauticstar would not accept the boat before then because they are currently in the middle of production and repairs are done in the winter. I then asked to speak with a Rep from Nauticstar which Plano Marine has denied to provide. I asked for a letter from Benny personally about having the repair done during the winter and after the warranty expires and he said he was unable to provide himself, that that type of letter he will try to get from the manufacturer. So I picked up my boat and listened tof the line ofor BS that was provided and I'm going to take it to another dealership. I suggest any other dealership than this one. I guess I will wait to see if I actually get a letter from Benny/manufacturer in the mail as promised or will this be yet another lie. read more

I have used their East Texas location twice / and on both occasions received very poor service - with low quality repair. The second occasion what to fix what I took the boat in for last summer, however - not only did they not stand behind their work...charged be DOUBLE what their estimate was to fix it -- after SIX weeks of waiting for the repair to be complete. This is the LAST time I will go to either location / do yourself a favor, don't mess with this place. BAD. read more

Bought a used boat at Plano Marine December 2017. 35,000 dollar used boat. Paid them to do 4 things the boat needed. Three of the things the did so poorly that I had to fix myself. The forth item they never did but claimed they had done. I even took pictures of the shoddy work the service department had done and stopped there to talk to them about it. The service managers reply to me was " sorry about your bad luck ". He then proceeded to turn and walk away. Stay as far away from this place as you can. I was in there about 20 years ago for a pulley, remember them being rude and not buying it. I needed a couple things for this weekend, thought I'd give them another try. Same arrogant jerks from 20 years ago. I bought the part I needed at almost twice what I could get it online for, and when I mentioned the price difference he acted like I had disrespected his mother, and told me "yeah, but we have it today" which is true, but it was like he was happy he got to bend me over the counter. I'm mad at myself for buying it there and not supporting the online vendor that has bent over backwards for me in the past. I could've paid next day air, came out even, and had it tomorrow. Plus, they had the other part I needed where Plano Marine did not. My fault for giving them business, won't do it again. I have to think boat sales must keep them in business, I can't believe the parts center makes them money with those guys running it. read more

I purchased a new chaparral in June from Plano marine. Was on the lake this past Saturday with my wife when the boat suddenly stopped running. My gas gauge read half full. Tried restarting but it would not. Called the marina and they were kind enough to send someone to tow us in. Boat is stored at the marina in a slip. Guess what a tow costs? Called Plano marine on Monday but everyone was moving boats from the boat show back to the dealer. Either you offer service or you don't. Obviously moving boats is far more important than providing service to a customer. They could maybe get someone To the lake next week... To look at it Maybe!! I decided to take my boat to them so again I paid the marina to tow my boat to the launch area so I could load it onto trailer. I do not own a truck so I had to pay someone to tow my trailer go the dealer. The reason for the urgency is I have 4 grand children coming tomorrow from Massachusetts. I go get my boat today and pay again to get it transported. Problem was..... I was out of gas even though gauge said I had a half a tank. Sending unit was hung up in tank. They put 3 gallon nationwide in my tank and only one person there said they were sorry it happened to me. ONE and his name is buck. He also repaired my boat. I asked someone not buck about help with what I had spent but all I got was a laugh and a you must be kidding right? At this point it's not about the money it's about Plano marine as a business. I will do everything in my power in the next few months to hurt them in a dozen different ways and would not recommend them to anyone anywhere. read more
