James just did a bunch of work for us at our Brooklyn brownstone-- cleaning up the backyard garden,…read moretransplanting and adding new plants to the beds, plus replanting the front window boxes and planters. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Absolute professional, and unbelievably accommodating to my (tight) schedule. He selected high quality plants from the nursery (sharing pics so I could approve also what I like), weeding, mulching, and leaving everything immaculate. I do quite a bit of gardening but relied upon his expertise for the design and what plants would thrive, and he did not disappoint. His prices are also very very reasonable. As I told him, I found him by googling "Brooklyn gardener" so it was a total leap of faith (!). So I am glad to pass my recc on to others who need an experienced and knowledgeable gardener.

I hired James to do a clearance of a great deal of overgrowth and some planting in my backyard…read more He was extreme professional, detailed and kind from beginning to end. He came by the first time to take a look and provide me with a quote (which he email me in less than 24h). I then decided to hire him and let me tell you... this was one of the best decisions I ever made for my house! He took care of an incredible amount of overgrown plants and then repotted and relocated some other ones. I was amazed by how perfect everything looked at the end! You can tell he really loves his job and knows what he is doing. He is also genuinely a good person and charges reasonably. We were so impressed that we decided to hire him for a monthly maintenance for our garden which is something we never felt comfortable doing before with anyone else. James is truly the best!

The crew from Arborpolitan was absolutely great--knowledgeable, efficient, careful, attentive, polite, easy to work with (this list could go on). In addition, I was unhappy because I hated to see our roof garden dismantled (something that was necessary because of an upcoming roof replacement), and the members of the crew were all sympathetic to my situation and very kind, humane. They were a pleasure to work with. I recommend this company wholeheartedly, without any reservation.

This year the SLFs won! My yard was covered in honey dew. Deck plants etc and it seemed to be killing my neighbors trees with the heavy dew on the leaves. Arborpolitan used an insecticide and a few days later they started to all fall off the tree. I pick them up and toss them daily to keep the bees or any other insects from investing any possible insecticide. Arborpolitan also gave us an estimate to trim the tree this winter. They were a little more expensive than other quotes I got but they are a smaller company in Brooklyn so I decided to give them the project.

Sometimes it's not fun to be right. I sent a request to…read moreseveral gardeners on Yelp. I outlined 3 things needed done. Just Clean Lots replied with a Robo response or Cut & Paste. Very generic "happy to help you with your garden related tasks". And "we must make an appointment". I didn't respond because I KNOW that the people who must appointments are always the WORST. They delay things forever. They tie up your whole day for nothing. And they charge way more! I like the companies that are a guy who has some other guys that work with him and they get the job done. After a few days, they reached out again. I replied and said that the robo reply wasn't good and that I'm not making an appt without knowing if they even do the tasks I needed done. I was assured that they could help with all 3. On Monday, they asked if they could come Tuesday of the following week. I said there was no way I could wait that long. Especially since there was so little change that there prices wouldn't be unreasonable. I need to know sooner rather than later if I need to move onto the next. I was talking with someone that I believe said she was the Operations Manager. Sigh... again, managers, having to inspect everything (rather than working from my description and the numerous pictures I supplied) and I told her it needed to be in a day or 2. She got back to me and proposed Thursday. That wasn't the day or 2 I wanted. But it was easier to accept than keep going back and forth. This was all on Yelp. So, I can't say if it was all one person or different people. I did get a message later saying that Wednesday would be possible. I said ok and said that anytime between 10AM and 3PM would be ok. Not that I like 5-hour windows. But again, to minimize the back and forth that would be necessary to fine tune a time. So, stayed available all day today. Made sure to be done with showering, etc before 10 so's to not be occupied if they came. 10AM came. 3PM came. Now, 5PM has come and gone and not only no show, but no contact. No request to reschedule. No apology for standing me up. Nothing. Part 2 - replying to Justin's comment You misunderstood. I don't mean that the estimate gets higher by being a week later. I mean that companies that make a trip over to spend time estimating charge more than companies that don't. They have to make up for the cost of the time of the person who is estimating rather than that person being on a job (whether it's gardening, painting, cleaning or any other work). What is referred to in your reply to my review as "building a relationship with the customer" is the exact opposite of what I want. I want the work done and not to be bothered. I shouldn't even have to be home. My gardener comes once a week and we see each other in person once a year (or less)! The best way to "build a relationship" with me is to accommodate my preferences as a customer. Not to force me to do things your way.
