We reached out for a tree delivery, which took a few tries to make contact. "No problem!" when I asked about size, date and location. Then NOTHING. Three weeks of trying to get things confirmed. Emails not returned. Pictures of trees that were promised not sent. Instead of being non-responsive, why not just say that you can't do it?? Then we move on. If you have a dolly and roll the tree in yourself and roll it out yourself, I guess the service is fine. But don't expect them to bring the tree into your house or get it out of your house without tracking in dirt from their dolly. They prefer curbside delivery and pickup but never mention this when you initially place the order. I had to request that they clean the wheels on their dolly when they dropped off the tree so that they wouldn't track dirt inside. They seemed surprised by my request. Really? This is your whole business. You should have a roll of drop cloths or butcher paper you lay down to bring the tree in the house so you have ZERO risk of tracking in dirt. And when Eric, the owner, arrived to pick up the tree (after many many texts and calls and hours later than expected btw), he rolled right over my carpet with dirt caked to the wheels of his dolly and left dirty tracks across it. When I incredulously asked him how he usually gets trees out of people's homes without tracking dirt all over their carpets, he was emphatic that removing the tree from its spot in your home is not part of the service. Ok, then 1) that should have been made ABUNDANTLY clear to me upon renting the tree from you. 2) Since you rolled the tree into my home, it is reasonable for me to expect you to roll it out of my home. 3) I told you multiple times over text that the tree was too big, too heavy, and too prickly for me to get out of my house on my own, so you should have come prepared to remove it from my home with minimal mess and attitude. But the kicker was really that when I pointed out that he'd gotten "mud" all over my carpet, instead of apologizing, he debated semantics with me and insisted it was "just dirt" on my carpet, not "mud." Lastly, while struggling to remove the tree from my home, it caught on my entryway carpet and started dragging it along with it. He frustratedly yanked my entryway carpet up and out of the way and draped it over my COUCH. Gross! Like dude... you bring Christmas tree rentals into and out of people's homes for a LIVING! Streamline your system so you don't leave a mess in your wake! Either that, or tell everyone up front that you ONLY deliver and pick up curbside. But don't give me attitude because I need your help removing the tree or that I'm upset because you tracked mud - sorry DIRT - all over my carpet! read more

I called to ask for an estimate on a project that I was working on. The guy who answered the phone (the owner) was completely rude and disrespectful to me. I was so shocked by the way he spoke to me that I told him there was no need to have an attitude and then he proceeded to yell and scoff at me through the phone AND THEN HE HUNG UP ON ME. What a prick. SO unbelievably unprofessional. I've worked for years with numerous vendors and have never been treated so poorly. I was really excited when I first learned about renting a live Christmas tree! Eco-friendlier, no messy needless, no wrestling with a tree stand, and delivery to and from your home. I was willing to pay the higher price for these benefits. I contacted them by email in late November, waited a week, and received no response. I sent a second email, waited, no response. I called, and the person who picked up (the owner I think) sounded annoyed, and asked me to email him the details. I said I had already emailed twice and hadn't received a response. He apologized, said they were still "gelling their schedule" and would be starting deliveries by that Thursday, a few days away. So, I sent a third email with the requested information, and still received no response after their expected start date passed. I returned to the website and noticed there was now a tree request form. At this point, I thought, what the hell, I'll give it one last try. It's been a few days since I filled out the form, no response. If they're out of trees, or aren't doing any more deliveries to SF, or whatever, that's fine, but let people know! Respond to your emails! Schedule customers who call immediately, or call back within a reasonable amount of time! It's like they don't actually want customers. This is such a great idea, and I really hope another company that actually has its shit together starts doing this. read more

It took me 2 months to pin Eric down to come see the property for which I needed to rent some shrubs. After finalizing a date, he emailed me the morning of saying he would need to push to the next day. We established a time for the next day, and Eric DIDN'T SHOW UP. No call. No email. No response to my inquiry as to what happened or where he went. I ordered plants for the perimeter and stage for a business meeting in San Francisco. Spoke with plantman, gave him my credit card info for payment, and was assured an early morning delivery. 10pm the night before, I receive a phone call that plants will not be in by 6:30 as agreed, but that they could still pull off an 8am delivery, dressing the stage & room prior to guest entry. It is 11:00am. No delivery this morning. No phone call. Nobody will answer the phone & no response to my several messages. Client is angry and wondering why I had confirmed something with them as late as 7am this morning that I can't provide an answer on. These guys are horrible and have made me look pretty bad. I saw an article in 2010 regarding live Christmas tree rentals. I followed up in October 2011, specifically to rent and 8 foot potted Christmas tree for 2011 Holiday season. I contacted plantman.com, ordered the tree, paid fee of $145 (in OCTOBER) and was told tree would be delivered starting 12/5/2011. No time frame for delivery was given. I waited all day, then called the company. I was told I was on the list but they were backed up on their deliveries. I waited all day 12/6/2011. I waited all day 12/7/2011. I called and emailed, still no time frame for delivery. 12/8/2011 passed with no tree. 12/9/2011 I called again and spoke with a nice woman who was astonished that I had not received my tree. She took a message and told me the owner would call me within the hour. That didn't happen. I called back 2 hours later and the woman had the owner take my call. He basically told me he didn't think they would be getting back up to the Walnut Creek area for this season. Silence. I responded that I was now ready to cancel my order and that I expected a refund, which he said he would process immediately. 12/12/2011 I had not received refund, so emailed reminder. Refund was not processed for a couple of weeks. Bottom line, I tried to use a GREEN SERVICE that was obviously not perfected. It wasn't until recently that I found references to the same exact problem with this company in a Yelp conversation section dated back to 2010. I ended up getting a cut tree 12/10/11, 2 weeks later than I would normally have purchased a tree. I would not recommend using this service in the future, especially when the owner seemed so unconcerned about the problem. read more

Running a business is not for everyone. I generally try to give people the benefit of the doubt. This service is very spotty. I used to think that there were listening devices in the plants. Because whenever I mentioned to my boss about getting rid of this guy, he would magically show up. Then he didn't show up at all and I legitimately thought he was dead. Because only a dead person could run a business this poorly. I actually felt bad for the horrible things I thought and said. Because the state of the plants was and STILL is throwing me under the bus! I terminated his services WEEKS AGO! He told me he'd have all the plants out and yet they are still here, dying I might add. Eric was great. I rented Ficus trees for an outdoor event. He was courteous, prompt, and professional. His product was great and he went above and beyond and "dressed" the pots with additional foliage at no extra charge. Pickup and delivery went smoothly. I was very unsatisfied with my experience working with Plantman for event plant rental. Eric arrived over 4 hours late, brought unassembled planter boxes without warning and did not bring enough supplies to get the job complete onsite. Combined, all of these factors drastically set our team back on load-in and cost us hundreds of dollars in overtime carpenter labor to get the install completed for the show. I tried to constructively work with Eric post-event to provide my reflection and experience, but he has refused to take ownership for the problems that occurred. He also assured me a partial refund over 2 months ago and that has not happened, even after weeks of persistent follow-up. Although you can tell that Eric has a lot of knowledge about plants and everything did look really nice once it was set, I wouldn't recommend working with Plantman for event plant rental due to lack of event experience, poor communication and professionalism. read more

I completly agree with Jill H's review. The customer service at this place is terrible. If they can't handle the Chrismas Tree business, then they should get out. I put in an order for my trees - yes, two trees, one for office and one for home, in OCTOBER. I wrote to them and called time and time again. No response. They promised be at least a half a dozen times that they were, "on their way", only to never show up. When I finally got a hold of them two weeks before Christmas, they seemed annoyed, put me on hold repeatedly until I finally canceled my order. I, too, thought this would be an eco-friendly way to spend the holidays. But, unless you want spend your time pulling your hair out and waiting for these jokers to show up, don't bother. Rented some Kentia Palms for our event in Burlingame. They delivered two days prior the event and even the hotel staff thought they were a nice touch to our event. They accommodated our budget and our request to change the pots to taller versions for the extra height. Will definitely work with Eric again. read more

Very bad client management - would hate to use him for an important event and risk poor execution. We got a tree (which is why they got 2 stars), but after several days of waiting and then it arrives at 9pm one night while I am just getting my baby down to sleep. Fine, I get it, he has other things to do. Then it took another 20 days (after x-mas) before he picked up the tree after 7 calls! We will never use this overly priced, unreliable company again.
