They are organized by tables so if you're looking for a particular succulent, that and similar ones will all be in that area. If you're looking for ready to go gifts, that's available too on the sides. They are small, and I brought one home a few months ago that after a few days I had to toss (after I realized) and also risked all my other plants. I stopped by early January and the tiny white fluffy mealy bugs were still very much visible. Really hope they fix this issue as I would happily spend a lot of money at this place!! Always fun to stop in. Staff don't really acknowledge your presence, but I actually prefer/don't mind that aspect. Please fix the mealy bugs situ so I can bring some orchid babies home!!!!

This is not a florist, it is a nursery with a specific focus on orchids. It was a little hard to find the first time I went there, but it was worth it. This place was made for orchid enthusiasts. They always have a huge selection of Phalaenopsis varieties (everyone does) in different sizes (miniatures and giants), but they also regularly carry Oncidium, Miltonia, Cattleya, and Dendrobium orchids. I have also found some gorgeous Paphiopedilum and Vendaeous specimens as well as many others, and the occasional surprisingly exotic and spectacular botanical. You can get beautiful potted gift orchids here, but their main focus is on growing orchids of all types and selling to both wholesale & retail customers and orchidists. If you like orchids, and are looking for rare and unusual finds, this is the place to go. To find them, follow your phone's map and you'll be led to a modest and understated sign with an arrow pointing up a hill. Proceed slowly and carefully up the hill and park to the left. You'll see 4 quonset hut-like buildings (green houses) and need to start in the left-most, which is their retail shop and has a sign on the door welcoming you. The right-most greenhouse is also open to the public, the two in the middle are not (they are growing greenhouses full of orchids that are not yet spiking). Keep in mind this is a working wholesale nursery, with a retail outlet attached (with better gift orchids than any florist), and not a flower shop, and you'll understand why it has a no-frills, utilitarian, green & organic, light-industrial feel to it. Once you get inside, you'll realize what a find this place is, with the best selection of healthy, thriving, beautiful orchids (many of which are unusual and rare) in the Bay Area. I went with a very sensible gardening mission: buy lavender plants to attract pollinators for my Meyer lemon and Bearss lime trees. Very practical. Very responsible. Nothing could possibly go wrong. Then I opened the door. The scent of fresh lavender was incredible. Not the artificial fragrance from candles or room sprays, but the real thing. The entire greenhouse smelled like a spa, and my quick errand immediately became a leisurely wander. The shop is beautiful, with healthy plants, gorgeous pottery, garden décor, lavender bath and body products, gifts, and more lavender varieties than I knew existed. I found myself comparing Provence, Phenomenal, Hidcote, French, Spanish, BeeZee Pink, and Burgundy like I was preparing for a horticulture exam. I eventually came home with two gorgeous plants, Provence and Phenomenal. Were they more expensive than the ones I could have picked up at Home Depot? Absolutely. Were they also fuller, healthier, and some of the most beautiful lavender plants I had seen? Also absolutely. The staff stayed quietly in the background, which worked perfectly for me because I didn't need help and could take my time looking around without feeling hovered over. I left with two beautiful lavender plants, a very happy new gardener's heart, and one clear expectation: The bees had better show up now.

I almost walked right by the store. My kiddo was registered in their plant pals club which offered a plant kit. We didn't continue taking part in the club as the store is far from us but it's a neat program. On my recent visit the store was a tad bit more spacious at the front but towards the register everyone was crowded in a line. I came looking for a specific plant with my kiddos and sister and found it! I also grabbed this cool sticker I found there. I got in line and noticed the owners both up front one completing the purchase and the other providing tips and support on the plants being purchased by each customer. This ended up delaying the line quite a bit. It was so hard to get help so I had to wait till it was my turn to pay to have them grab the plant I needed. The store has a large variety of plants, pots, and stickers/pin/keychains made by locals. The plants are affordable and they focus on having "exotic" plants at affordable prices so everyone can own one. The plants pals club is a cool program for young plant parents. The layout of the store is like a long strip. It can be really crowded if there's too many people inside. It's a really neat store and can improve on having the owners walk around the entire store and check in on their customers.

Someday we are all going to miss having experts and artisans. As you can imagine running a business is very tough especially a nursery where you have quite a bit of overhead and attention needed for all those plants and facilities. We all work hard keeping up our homes, imagine the work needed to run a nursery. Please be considerate with the negative comments and try to be patient if the few people working there are occupied. The orchid I bought here back in January is still blooming beautifully in July, and it's gorgeous. That alone speaks volumes. These orchids are clearly loved, expertly grown, and exceptionally well cared for. This visit was such a joy. Jesus was welcoming, patient, and happy to answer all of my orchid questions. And then there was Lulu, the adorable Yorkiepoo, who may have been just as responsible for my purchases. Bay Area Orchids has been a family-owned business for more than 25 years, and you can feel that passion throughout the nursery. I walked in planning to buy one orchid and somehow left with three: a gorgeous golden Phalaenopsis with multiple flower spikes, a vibrant magenta beauty, and a petite coral Phalaenopsis that completely stole my heart. My kitchen windowsill has officially become an orchid gallery! If you're heading to Half Moon Bay State Beach, this is an easy stop along the way, and they're open until 6 PM. Whether you're buying your first orchid or adding to a collection, this place is well worth a visit. Fair warning: you'll probably leave with more orchids than you planned. I certainly did!
