Pineapple curry. Turner Classic Movies. Friendly bartenders. A beautiful bar. Local brews on tap. A-okay place to walk in, sit alone and not feel weird. And if you have a tendency to record meeting dates incorrectly you will easily find yourself in this position. I've been trying for quite some time to prepare myself for a life filled with cats and spinsterhood by attempting to be more at ease with eating in public alone. And this was the perfect night to give it a whirl. I arrived 45 min early- calmly made the realization that I mischeduled and then seized the opportunity to face my fear. Not once did I feel like I was being pitifully-watched. Thank heavens, right? It was a toss up between the potstickers and pineapple curry- way to have a diverse and yummy bar menu! I let the waitress decide and she opted for the curry. I love a bartender/waitress/waiter who is willing to play along with my "surprise me" tactics. Sometimes the decision is just too difficult, why don't you make it for me? My favorite part of Brass was the laid back, no-rush feel. Fantastic little hole in the wall just on the outskirts of Broad Ripple away from all the rowdy Broad Ripple scene. Cute dark inside with a 1920s theme. They play a lot of roaring twenties music and show old black and white films. Cool place with great bartenders. They make really good mixed drinks at decent prices. Much cheaper than the downtown drinks and better quality. The martinis, old fashioned and gin rickeys are all worth going back for. They even serve Vegan Nachos-very cool and fun! read more

Dog-friendly patio, delicious food and a kitchen that's open late! Top it off with affordable prices and you've got yourself a damn good spot. I don't think I've ever walked away from the Brass Ring with a bad experience. And how could you?! The staff is friendly and cool, always. The cocktails are well-crafted and I've yet to order a menu item I didn't enjoy. They've plenty of vegan and veggie options, too. I love cheese more than anything but will still dive head first into the vegan nachos. The interior has an almost intimate vibe, donned with small tables and illuminated by tea lights. The windows open fully to the front patio during spring and summer, which is really nice. And sometimes they've got yard games going on in the adjoining lot. I really wanted to like Brass Ring on my recent trip back home to Indy. Bunch of girlfriends and I stopped by as part of a bachelorette party (not a typical rowdy/crazy group) because we had Duckpin Bowled nearby and wanted to hang out the rest of the night in Fountain Square. I hadn't been to Brass Ring in a few years and felt like it was a completely different spot than what I recall. There was something off about our waitress. Like she didn't want to bother with us and had something on her mind, idk. We tried to make conversation with her and be pleasant but her answers were fairly curt and short and she didn't really care to be around us. We stayed for 2 rounds until deciding where the next stop would be. All of our drinks were realllllllly strong too. Didn't feel like our comments would've been received by the waitress to request a new pour so we didn't bother bringing them up. Our 2nd round was the hope they'd be good and not so over-poured. Yes, we were a bachelorette party, but at least can you make your $10 worth the $10? My how things have (sadly) changed. read more

One word: AMAZEBALLS. This place has the whole sha-bang. Cheap mixed drinks, craft beer, domestic beer, great food (see the photo for reference.) We got the vegan nachos, and I couldn't be happier! An amalgamation of astonishing flavors shotgunned with an array of beautiful colors. It's a sight for the eyes and a feast for the stomach. If you want to get drunk, order the Ginjito. This is the place to be on a Friday night! Whereas other places in the area were closing for the evening, this place was where everyone must go. At about 1 a.m. (so I guess technically we had hit Saturday), inside was busy and people were hanging out outside as well. It is super dark inside. I felt like an old person squinting to see the menu. This is also a hipster hangout. I saw haircuts and glasses that I wouldn't even dream of pulling off. Don't let that deter you if you're not a hipster. The crowd is definitely an eclectic mix where everyone would fit in. They have cocktails and specialty cocktails. When I read specialty cocktails I often read expensive, however, the drink that caught my eye - the Ginjito - was on the specialty list. I threw caution to the wind since I was on vacation. Well, jokes on me, because it turned out to be only $7! Indy, you astound me with your cheapness again. This was our last stop of the night so I was already buzzed, but knowing my boundaries, I knew I would be drunk if I finished the Ginjito. It was super strong! If we started our night here, I would have appreciated it more. I definitely got my money's worth. They were playing old black and white movies and Elvis songs. Does it make sense? Nope. But does it work? Absolutely. The Brass Ring Lounge has its own parking lot, which makes coming here convenient. My friend from Indy says that this is where she and her friends always end up. This dive bar located in Fountain Square is amazing. It has a great atmosphere and patio bar. Get there early so you can get a good seat. The drinks are not watered down you actually get your money's worth. If you want to do a bar crawl in Fountain Square this has to be a stop otherwise you aren't doing it right. They have a lot of options for different drinking tastes. I picked the Ginjito. It was smooth and a great way to the end the night. The assumed to be owner came outside to tell us "You need to go across the street to eat where you got that from. You cannot sit here to eat that. This is not a park." His energy was very aggressive and intimidating, like he was ready to go off on us. Just checked out this weeks-old place at the end of Fountain Square, unlike anything in Indy. It's named for being the former site of an old-time merry-go-round that presented a brass ring to be caught once the ride started. "Brass ring came to have the figurative sense of a prize," explains the bar's Web site. Brass Ring certainly does offer some ambient and culinary prizes. The venue features a white tablecloth eatery inside what some might mistake for a former gas station or garage, given the boxy, metal-and-glass entryway. I like to call it "upscale divey." It's certainly in a league of its own. For one thing, it has a jazzy feel reinforced by the cheeky, namesake music choices (last visit, I heard a lounge version of The Offspring's "Keep 'Em Separated"). And the television to the right of the bar is eternally set on Turner Classic Movies. The clientele is similarly eclectic--cool cats in black-rimmed glasses and retro plaid shirts perch on stools next to Colts-jersey wearers. But what truly makes this place different is its attention to food. The ambitious bar menu includes everything from healthy wraps with fresh ingredients to a sausage plate from Claus' nearby sausage market to cracker-thin-crusted pizzas, all with innovative toppings. I chose a cheese-and-fruit plate that featured, surprisingly, port wine or balsamic-dipped feta cheese. That's the type of creativity not seen in many bistros, let alone bars. Enjoyed a late Saturday night and, so cool, a Sunday afternoon at the Brass Ring. Saturday was crowded with hipsters & more - we grabbed 4 seats at the antique bar. Framed pin-up girls mingled with tv screens playing Turner Classics (with captions for true fans!). Patio plus lounge were packed, but we had more than enough elbow room. On a summer night, we felt fresh summer air even though we were farthest from the patio. Bartenders really move it! Our drinks and food were served with speed and smiles. Variety of local craft beers and reasonable martinis. Cracker crisp pizza crust - our favorite's the margherita with the fresh tomatoes. Chicken curry is creamier & has a bit more kick than other local spots - more sauce than rice and a smidge of cilantro. Relaxed, quiet Sunday afternoon spot. That is, until my sister was so moved by Roberta Flack's singing that she turned "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" into a duet. And the small Brass Ring Sunday crowd? I went to The Brass Rail for the first time tonight. Melanie greeted us and asked for our passports. Naturally we agreed- she asked for order and delivered our drinks with efficiency and class. She let us know that smooth jazz was her favorite music, and we helped her win a Kenny G record on eBay. What great customer service! I was very impressed with Miranda when she high fived me. My hand was numb for fifteen minutes- I could barely feel my shot of tequila and would have dropped it had I not been wearing a glow stick around my wrist. Shout out to my Electric Forest homies, EDM 4 Life Bros! We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs took hold. I saw within myself, what was once myself, would be and never be myself, and selfishly I sell myself to the self that would selflessly sell seldom seeds to he who needs the deeds of he who needs no tedious themes or secret schemes she seems to see and Marlayna served six shots she heard from lips of mine tinged red with wine, Godspeed we need a bed to rest our weary heads instead of these wooden seats, seems to me to be a dream or some such thing, oh dear to me you are Brass Ring, of Gods and Men I say Amen! Literally had been sitting directly near the bar for 35 minutes, no one said a word. As I was beginning to write this, someone FINALLY came and spoke with us about our orders meanwhile the bartenders were next to us washing cups.. where is the service? Was it because we were black? Or we weren't regulars? Like I really want to know why it took so long for someone to even address the party of three that sat next to the bar?? So first off, love the rejuvenated Fountain Square area! The Brass Ring is a great example of the Hipster Paradise unfolding in FS and offers a great after hours hangout with a speakeasy meets upscale dive vibe where you can proudly hang your fedora. The inside seating can get a bit cramped, but outside seating is a bit more spacious and is absolutely fantastic when the weather is nice. There is an old-timey piano inside and on Fridays there is an old-timey player for said piano. The staff is kind of hit/miss, but when you get a good waitress/waiter, it is a customized drink recommendation jackpot! I had a fantastic drink called the Hemingway that came highly recommended by my waiter. I can't remember what was in it exactly, but it was more than worth the $10 drink price. The drink prices reflect a more upscale pricepoint, but the quality of the ingredients are there. read more

When the weather is nice, they open up the garage doors facing the patio and the whole place takes on an al fresco vibe. Great pizzas and a solid beer selection. My most recent visit to Brass Ring was during a bachelorette party last weekend. Our waitress was fantastic - on three different occasions someone in our party said "Surprise me" when ordering, and all of the results (two cocktails and a round of shots) were delicious. I appreciate the variety of the menu, from St. Louis style pizza to loaded potato skins (with vegetarian options!). With a candlelit atmosphere that's nice without being stuffy, this is a great place to wrap up (or continue!) an evening out. read more

Had a late night stop after some near by comedy. Our group of 4 decided to order some pizzas. A Garden and Margarita. The pizza is $12-$15 each and I would suggest each feeds about 2 people.
