Great cocktails by night great coffee by day... What more could you ask for! The style of the space is so cool with modern vibes and colorful glass sculptures everywhere. In the morning the place is bright with plenty of natural light had a coffee bar set up with well crafted coffee drinks, great pastries and usually plenty of seating. The coffee is set up in such a way that it's totally ok to take it to go as well! Wishing places like this existed when i was regularly staying in hotels! I works have been so happy with my morning coffee! Same space at night you get welcomed with a delicious bag of craft popcorn and have a selection of amazing concoctions of the alcoholic variety. On South you might find street parking, but there's a parking structure North of the Alexander and east of the street shops on Delaware's in the innermost part of the block. This is hands down my favorite bar in all of Indy. We've been here so many times because we love it so much. We even brought all our family here after our rehearsal dinner because it's that good! The beginning of my night here was wonderful. This is a cool spot located within the Alexander hotel up on the second floor. You walk into a four sided bar located in the middle of the room, and above the bar a unique array of cool light structures. This is undoubtedly a place for a fancier drinks/apps night, or for you fancy business people out there, drinks after work. Their specialty drinks were unique and seemed to have been put on their menu by a cocktail connoisseur. I got an awesome gin drink with blackberry and other ingredients of deliciousness. It was 8 out of 10 STRONG, and wasn't too sweet, just the right amount in my personal opinion. Loved the drink, and their options for them. With that, this would undoubtedly be a spot I would bop again for drinks, just drinks. After finishing our drinks, feeling starved, we ordered the Charcuterie & Cheese board. On the menu this $15 app expressed that it contained: assorted pickles, jam, mustard, nuts and baguette. EXCITING. 45 minutes later... with no updates in that time from our server... we finally got this small board, and it was a BUMMER. The assorted pickles were four mini MINI pickles, jam that was undoubtedly Smucker's Jelly, mustard (dijon - solid), no nuts, and some old baguette bread. The meat on the board resembled some old ham from Thanksgiving, and the cheese was a sharp cheddar that you buy at the grocery store that is pre cut into isosceles triangle. The board also contained one half of a red pepper that was likely from a jar of roasted red peppers. I'm undoubtedly being a little crazy with this analysis (the hanger took over, sorry), but it was the saddest charcuterie board I have had! Our table did ask our server if there'd by any chance be a discount since it took 45 minutes to construct this board, and she said, "I guess." Five minutes later after she consulted with her co-worker who was making some serious facial expressions, she returned our checks with no discount after saying she would. With the service that we received at the end and the poor appetizer I sadly wouldn't return to this spot, which had awesome potential with their environment and drinks menu. read more

This is going to be a super random complaint but... I like hotel bars that don't look/feel like hotel bars. Plat 99 has a lot going for it but I never quite forgot that I was at a hotel bar. Again, random/small complaint and it doesn't take away from my overall impression but hotel bars that are destinations for locals has been a growing trend for the past five years or so. Plat 99 should fall into that bucket. Why it doesn't? I don't know. Really. I've been thinking about it and I can't put my finger on it. Undoubtedly, it's a sexy space: from the light fixtures, to the windows, to the seating, to the art, to the bar... there's lots to look at and enjoy. For a hotel bar, I didn't find the prices outrageous. You can make your own wine flight (I really liked that setup; plus, the pours were all very generous) and there's a fantastic stock of classic cocktails. Because it was cold and I wasn't feeling too adventurous, I went with the Old Fashioned (another visit; I don't have a drinking problem). It was just the right side of sweet to offset the strength of the cocktail. The cocktails are also listed by the bartender who created them so if you have a bartender you've connected with, ask for their signature drink (again, another great idea). I tried the fabled truffle popcorn. I enjoyed it but it wasn't the otherworldly experience I was anticipating. Likewise, there are plenty of other menu items to try as well so be sure to read, ask and see what trips your light fantastic. Not everything is as advertised and I rather dislike non-straightforward menus. You should probably stick with the classics. I enjoyed my times at Plat 99 but would make different choices if I were to return. Despite the well-priced menu, I wound up spending too much money on some bad choices. There's potential at Plat 99. Inside of the Alexander Hotel is Plat 99, a coffee shop with artistic flair! The decor is stunning and the coffee definitely is on par, I ordered a pistachio latte and it was overflowing with flavor, and whip cream. The buttered croissant was also flaky and delicious! Plat 99 is a great place to come if you want to get some work done and be sure to wander around and see all of the art around the Alexander Hotel. The staff was super sweet and allowed us to take a lot of pictures there. Also random, but the hotel always smells SO GOOD and I need it bottled to sell ASAP so I'd definitely visit just for the smell alone! read more

I've only been to the Alexander for a wedding so coming to Plat 99 was such a different experience. We were here for a happy hour so we had a larger group. The service seemed a bit slow although it wasn't too packed. As people showed up after another, our server didn't notice for a while so a few people started order from the bar. I overheard several people in my party place orders for food and I'm not sure they ever received it. I will say that they have free popcorn here and it's dressed in truffle oil - super delicious, I think I had 2-3 bags. I felt the prices were a bit high too. read more

Impressive! This lounge carries a unique selection of cocktails that changes regularly. Each drink has been carefully designed with input from the entire staff. They truly treat their cocktails like works of art. And complimentary truffle oil popcorn is fantastic! I tried three cocktails. First, "Impress Me", served in a sealed bottle filled with cherry wood smoke. Wait several minutes for the smoke to infuse (or shake it of you're impatient) and pour. It contains cynar, which is artichoke liqueur (!). Next, the "Family Reunion": served with a flaming marshmallow. It smelled like childhood bonfires and tasted like Christmas. The whole egg gave it a wonderful creamy flavor. It was my favorite--a deliciously nostalgic drink. I need some of this "allspice dram", the main flavor. As a bonus, for every drink bought $1 is donated to a charity for people with disabilities. Finally, the beverage containing dry ice...wow, it makes quite the impression. Though intimidating, it is safe to drink, but don't inhale!! For whatever reason sniffing it burned my nose. As a sneak peek, the manager brought out samples of house-made, flavored fermented whey (from milk) which will be featured in the next selection of drinks--development is still in progress. I'm so conflicted by this review. If you go for drinks, I give this place 5 stars. The ambiance doesn't get any better. The lighting will have you swooning! The drinks are great and often they feature a drink that benefits a different organization in the community. And then there's the truffle popcorn! It's the perfect pairing for a swanky cocktail and it's complimentary. Then there's the food. Honestly, everything I've eaten here has been mediocre. The Devour Downtown was especially disappointing. I came in for a Yelp! event to work and try the coffee. (Tinker Street beans) I'll be back for sure. The attention to detail and the energy is fantastic. You can tell the baristas here love their coffee and enjoy working together. They're famous for their donut lattes: take donuts and soak them in the milk for 24 hrs, strain their donuts out and make the latte. It leaves the flavor of the donuts without the calories and see sweetness. They recommended sweetening the drink with flavoring: vanilla bourbon donut latte. My taste buds were very happy. Plus they made it right by steaming the milk with the flavoring. Good looking pastries, but I didn't venture past the chocolate croissant sample. I loved my experience at Plat 99! My boyfriend and I checked it out for a date. I couldn't decide what to get off the cocktail menu, so I asked the bartender for suggestions. He asked me a series of questions and then headed off to make my "off the menu drink". The drink he made looked amazing with a flower on top of the glass. And tasted ever better! I'm shocked to be saying this, but I'd say it rivals Hotel Tango at premium cocktails and seems to be a little bit cheaper. Okay, let me just walk you through my incredible experience here. I was with two other friends, one of which was celebrating her birthday. Parking: We arrived at the valet ($12) and was greeted by a very nice employee and he answered all of our indecisive parking questions with ease. We chose valet so we could just relax and not walk in the rain. Atmosphere: Upon entry into the hotel lobby you come upon some of the coolest modern art I've ever seen that's not in a museum. This place had a top notch design team, the hotel and the bar are visually stunning and pristine. Plat 99 is a mixology lounge and has a warm feel to it. They have a patio that is heated but we didn't even see it otherwise we probably would've jumped on that train. Service: UM...OUTSTANDING. Seriously, I have never been to place where they accommodate a birthday gal/guy so much in my life. Justin, our waiter, was the best. He explained what the mixology bartenders were all about. While they do have a great cocktail menu, they will also make custom cocktails based on what you like. We were all down with letting the bartender surprise us so Justin made notes of what our usual "poison" is and he came back with delicious concoctions. After our first round of drinks Justin brought the birthday girl a complimentary glass of champagne and a chef followed with a custom dessert board complete with house made chocolate mousse, strawberries, oranges, and pretzel sticks. It was delicious! Then the check came: In the end, the birthday girl got her first cocktail on the house, a glass of champagne and dessert for free. Then, Justin asked if we used valet and when we said yes, he validated it for us! I think we calculated about $40+ worth of complimentary goodies for the birthday girl. She was on cloud 9 and felt like a queen. It was fantastic and we are already planning a girls trip to stay at the hotel and go back to Plat99 to enjoy the balcony. The first thing you'll notice is the gorgeous glass lanterns hanging over the bar area. The second thing you'll notice is the delectable scent of truffle oil popcorn. Yes, that's right...Plat 99 serves hot, freshly popped popcorn drizzled with truffle oil! I was like a moth drawn to a flame...pretty glowing lights and delicious smells to lure me in. My husband and I have visited Cerulean, the restaurant downstairs and under the same ownership, several times before this. Love that place, so I had great expectations for Plat 99. This is a great place for an after work drink or in our case a nightcap to end our Friday night festivities. They have an outdoor patio, complete with a fancy fire box and swanky lounge chairs, so you can enjoy your cocktail in style and comfort. We opted to dine inside because they didn't have the fire lit and it was a little chilly. I'm a big fan of upscale bars like this offering seating other than just bar stools, like couches, high back chairs and such. The place wasn't packed so we snagged a couch and chair. Our server, Jessica, was prompt and offered us little bags of the infamous truffle popcorn when she approached us. We hadn't drank here before, but she was knowledgeable of the best/most popular drinks on their signature cocktail menu. Plat 99's bartenders have a very interesting selection of hand-crafted cocktails...definitely a mixologist's place. I was adventurous and ordered Miley's Mouthwash, a black tea vodka cocktail served up and with an egg white. Not quite my thing, but I can appreciate the thought behind the liquor and flavor combinations. My hubs got the Swashbuckler made with a fantastic rum called Papa's Pilar. I think we both agreed it was very smooth with sweetness that mixes well with the vanilla and anise notes. The only thing I found a little off (and the reason I am only giving Plat 99 four stars) was the cheese plate we ordered. It had a mix of dried and fresh fruits and toasted thin baguette slices with the cheeses, which sounds nice... But the presentation was just a little too much. The wooden bowl it came out in seemed overly-crowded with items and the fruit itself didn't look very appetizing. The grapes had that waxy look like they needed to be washed and the strawberries weren't very ripe. This was a super cool experience. After randomly wandering in on a Thursday evening, my friend and I were very pleased with what we saw! The lighting, the couches, the overall vibe --all of it was great! We tried a sampling of various drinks - everything on the menu sounded well thought out and I'm sure they all would have tasted fantastic. All were in the $10-12 price range and there was something for each kind of palate. My only sadness was that there weren't any tequila based craft cocktails on the menu at this time. Oh well! There was a drink that had dry ice that was "smoking" when it came to our table. The food choices were great for sharing - a cheese & charcuterie plate and the sweet potato hummus with the spicy pita chips! Definitely enough for two to share. ***This review is only for the cocktails experienced on two visits on successive nights.*** The last time I was in town was last year over Christmas and Plat 99 had not yet opened. However, after friends had checked it out when they were in town for the 500 and declared it a truly legit place for cocktails, it made the fiancée and my "must try" list for when we were in town for Thanksgiving. Plat 99 doesn't look like anyplace I've ever seen in Central Indiana with its bone white interior, brightly colored lighting fixtures, and modern furnishings. It looked like someplace you'd more likely find in Miami or Vegas. Plat 99 made a great first impression as they offered us individual snack size paper bags of freshly popped popcorn tossed with truffle oil and truffle salt while we perused its interesting, well-conceived cocktail list. The list was made up of a roughly 50-50 split between classics and originals, many of which utilized distilled spirits from Indiana and house-made infusions and syrups. Another nice aspect of the cocktail list was that it gave credit to a drink's creator. This was especially helpful if you ordered a cocktail and it's creator was behind the bar making the drink. I like whiskey-based drinks so I started off with one of Michael Gray's concoctions, the Wayworn Road ($11) made with Backbone bourbon, black peppercorn and thyme syrup, Jerry Thomas bitters, lemon juice, and a thyme sprig. Boozy, bitter, and balanced with great aromatics and peppery notes, it was a well conceived and executed drink. Next, I had the Definition of Insanity ($13), another one from Michael Gray, made with Fresno chili pepper infused Redemption bourbon, Yellow Chartreuse, Shagbark hickory syrup, lemon juice, and Angostura bitters. It, too, was boozy and balanced with a nice chili heat. I loved it. The complex and diverse notes of this drink hit the proper chord with me, but may not be right for every palate. Finally, I had the Giuseppe's Revenge ($11) from Devon Boyll made with Cocchi Americano Rosa, El Mayor Reposado tequila, Benedictine, and sea salt. Devon was behind the bar both nights we were there. On our first night, he made this drink for my fiancée. On the second night, a different bartender made it for me. On both nights, the drink was exceedingly smooth, almost creamy, subtly sweet, and whose flavors popped with the hint of salt. However, surprisingly, the fiancée and I noted ever so slight, yet still noticeable, differences between the one made by the different bartenders with the one made by its creator being the superior execution. Still, regardless of who made it, it was a high quality, satisfying cocktail. While the prices may seem a bit steep, trust me when I say that I definitely got my money's worth in terms of satisfaction with my drinks and the service we received. Plus, the drinks were easily comparable in quality, but perhaps slightly less expensive than what I've found in the finer cocktail bars in DC, NYC, and Vegas. Frankly, it's great that the craft cocktail scene in Indianapolis is burgeoning and it's about time it had a place like Plat 99. I highly recommend. read more

to start... great night Celebrating the promotion of a very good friend. When her husband asked what we should do to celebrate, first thing I could think of was, mixology class. I have been to many in town, but wanted the opportunity to partake in Play n Pour! It did not disappoint. Leal was our Mixologist. Although, it was alot to learn in a very short period of time, he went out of his way to find out what you like and push you beyond your comfort zone to try a new spirit and create a new drink. For me, I am a pure Vodka person. The better the Vodka, the smaller the hangover. I do not usually venture far from the clear spirits. So I told him as long as we stay in the genre, we would be ok. So, I learned yesterday , white rum could be a substitute if you combine the correct amount of citrus and mixers. I wish I would have spent time writing down all of the info. There was so much passing through my head. Combine that with fun drinks, great h friends and alot of laughter, and I am not sure where we ended up. Our Mixologist created a drink for every person in the party. We all were able to test our limits. The table was covered with so many great meats and cheese, spicy nuts and sweet potato chips. By the end of our session the signature popcorn made its appearance and was the perfect topper to a spirit filled night. Overall, the experience was great. Fun times, and lots of drinks. Leal continued to make our Guest of honor signature creation and made sure she had a drink in her hands at all time. I would recommend the Pour and Play class to anyone, for any event. Two words: Truffle popcorn. Located in the new "City Way" area, and inside the Alexander Hotel this swanky 70's modern twist cocktail lounge provides endless oogles and ahhhs! As soon as we saw this place we went nuts, but then when it got dark (see pics) is when the magic happens. These commissioned glass art installations are absolutely stunning and perfect for a date night, or girls night out. When you first sit down you are greeted with a free little bag of truffle popcorn (INSERT DROOL) Probably the best I've ever had. So simple, and a really nice touch. I ordered the grapefruit cocktail. Not a huge fan of cocktails because I don't like fake syrups and overpriced drinks, but this place does. it. right. The gin and grapefruit flavor with fresh and bright with a touch a sweetness to balance it out. Again, probably one of the best I have ever had and I do not say that often. Boy toy had his usual bourbon on the rocks. Great as usual. The staff was super friendly and attentive. I would literally drive to INDY just to come back here. Love the atmosphere. The colorful lights remind me of a kaleidoscope- the colorful combos are captivating from all vantage points. Nice bar, couple of cozy corner couches, and cannot wait for spring, because the veranda looks awesome. The drinks are excellent and on par with the other trendiest spots of the last couple years: Ball & Biscuit, Libertine, Bluebeard--all hip mixology and retro cocktails with accompanying explanations. The truffle popcorn is ridiculously good, and the small plates are also tasty, if a bit pricy. I just recall paying $8 for smurf-size frou-frou grilled cheese. I realize it wasn't government cheese, but damn: I've had croutons almost as big as this sandwich. The drinks were priced accordingly for an upscale place like this and the wait staff were very attentive and kind. I'm in my 20's but it felt like the majority of the clientele were older patrons (like retired), but perhaps they were staying at the hotel. The truffle oil popcorn is to die! The only issue I had was I went expecting that I could order food, but the kitchen closed at 11. I would have liked to have tried some of their menu items as well. read more

I've always come here for cocktails which never disappoint and great views off the balcony, but came today for the first time for coffee in the morning which is new-ish. They offered pastries and tea menu as well. My table had commented how we wanted to try all the lattes and that it would be great to be able to get a flight of lattes/coffee, just like you might we beer. Within a few minutes, the baristas brought a flight of lattes/cold brew over to us because they got excited about the idea and wanted to try it out. I was just impressed that they jumped on the opportunity to try something new and gave us a chance to try their donut latte- which I hadn't ordered, but was quite tasty. Well done! read more

Dude. The atmosphere here is great. And I just can't say enough about the view of the city... Even though it's only from 2 stories up, somehow the view is one of my favorite in Indy. Especially as the sun sets. Inside and out the place is a statement. They have curated art through the IMA and spent endless attention to detail. Even the bathroom is pretty. You can stand and talk, lounge on the sofas, and then there are bar seats and small groupings of chairs. Once it's warmer, there's even outside seating. The cocktails are potent. I'm a lightweight anyway, but geez.... these are stiff! Food..... the popcorn seemed popular. I will definitely come back to try it. And I loved these, um, I guess it was some type of cheese, wrapped in spinach wrapped in thinly sliced beef.... yum. Oh, and the manager, not bad looking either ;) read more

I finally made it to the restaurant with all of the amazing lanterns! I've been wanting to go here for a while now so I'm really glad it lived up to all of the hype! Let me start off by saying my experience was not a typical Platt 99 experience. I was invited to attend for Eat Here Indy's Influencer Indy Night so it was a special food experience. We sat on the gorgeous outdoor patio and the manager and sou chef joined us to discuss the restaurant and the all of the food items we would be trying. I was able to try 3 signature cocktails and a 4 course dinner. Hands down the best things we tried were the roasted sweet potato wedges and the oatmeal blondie. That blondie though... probably one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Oh my goodness, so good. It was a very special treat to have the sou chef explain every course in detail for us. I can tell he put a lot of work into our dinner. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu and have a more typical experience. The atmosphere alone would make me want to come back again and again! read more

Such a cute (relatively new) bar on the Indianapolis scene! The couches are a nice addition because it offers another type of seating than just barstools. Their couches also help the bar be considered as a lounge. Old Fashioned was the drink of choice and was made well. The lighting fixtures may have been my personal favorite part because they reminded me of Chinese lanterns and assisted the very appealing interior. Also with their balcony patio, this spot is easily in the running for most relaxed bar in the city. IMO of course :) read more

This review only covers the drinks (with one exception) because we had just come from dinner. The craft cocktail movement has really taken root in Indianapolis and this is the next great bar. Most of the drinks on the menu are original creations, although you can always order a classic. They range from $9-11 which is not unreasonable. Oh, and the truffle oil popcorn. They pop their own popcorn behind the bar and toss it lightly with truffle oil. Then they bag individual servings to bring to all the guest, complimentary. If you think the drinks are decadent, the truffle oil popcorn just kicks it up a notch or three. Come just to marvel the space. The beautiful glass light fixtures that hang from the ceiling are a wonder to behold. There are supple leather chairs in which to lose oneself. I can't wait to return when the weather warms up so I can walk around the wood-floored balcony and soak in the night air. read more

Baseline: Reviewed during 2013 summer Devour Downtown Who: Me, my wife, our neighbors (married couple) Devour Menu: Craft cocktail + 3 courses for $25/person Food ordered & Food Review: -Heirloom Tomato and Mozzarella Salad: very testy and easily can be shared -Trio of Hummus: each hummus had its own flavor and texture. The traditional was good. The red pepper was very salty, which I prefer, but be warned. The edamame was weird, but then again that isn't really hummus. This could also easily be shared as an appetizer. I forgot to take photos of the apps, but the pita comes out in a small fryer basket, which is a fun presentation. Second Course & Food Review: The portions are extremely small, as in Tapas size. They do not come with a side, and Plat doesn't offer any sides. -Pork Belly Slider: 2 small sliders, but the flavor was good and the combination of toppings worked well. -Artisanal Grilled Cheese: I don't care for cheese that much, or at least I don't love it like most people. But, I really don't care for pork belly or duck pate. so I ordered the grilled cheese. It was delicious and gourmet. Highly recommended. Third Course & Food Review: -Milk and Cookies: this isn't really milk and cookies. like, at all. they soak fresh chocolate chip cookies in cream, strain it, then use the cream to make a panna cotta. Cookies and milk, no. Delicious, yes. Craft Cocktails ordered & Review: -A Grassy Knoll (lemongrass-infused indiana vodka, cocchi americano, zoning prosecco, cucumber, celery shrub, house orgeat): this was OK. it was extremely strong, but it normally cost $13 and you get maybe 5 oz of cocktail once you remove the giant ice cube. But, they do make the vodka in house at Plat 99, so they get bonus points for that. -A Sticky Situation (bone snapper rye, clement creole shrub, shagbark hickory syrup, peaches, lemon, hickory foam, bacon): yes, this drink has a piece of bacon in it. You must like whipped egg whites to enjoy this drink, as that is basically what the foam is. -Fog Cutter (oronoco rum, le reviseur v.s. cognac, prohibition indiana gin, orange, lemon, house orgeat, cherry-infused pisco): basically this is a fresh, extremely sweet long island iced tea. My wife loves long island iced teas, but she just though this was OK. I love that they don't rush you. Not at all. We sat at the restaurant for at least 90 minutes, and the courses were ordered individually and spaced out, not rushed. However, we also did NOT receive the popcorn that several reviews talk about, even though I saw several other tables enjoying a bag. I'm sad about the popcorn, but combining that factor with our "no rush" service makes me question if we just had a slow/bad waitress. I would go back, but I would probably sit on the patio/deck which overlooks south street and enjoy an appetizer and a craft beer (of which they have plenty on tap for $5.50 a pint). Maybe I'm not into the new mixology hipster trend, but give me a beer over a gourmet cocktail any day. read more
