THE STYLIST: Jen arrives from Salt Lake City where she had fifteen years of experience as stylist at an Aveda salon - with all the great training Aveda provides. I imagine Jen's former clients in Salt Lake must really be missing her - and their Facebook posts say that is true - because Jen just cut and colored my hair for the first time and both services were simply top notch. My hair is fine - and I have found that unlike fine wine, fine hair does not improve with age - and challenging to cut. I have tried a number of different stylists in the six years I've lived in the Boise area and Jen provided not only the best cut to fit my hair that I've had here but among the best cuts I've had in a dozen years. (And I say that from the perch that my long term stylist in my previous city was crackerjack good.) She started re-lightening but didn't pull the bleach all the way to the top of the highlights, opting instead to do a root smudge to cover the roots. Unfortunately, that has since faded, leaving me with very orange roots. She also didn't have time to address all the highlights, so she suggested I book a follow-up in four weeks to give my hair time to recover. When I reached out to confirm the appointment, Julie told me I didn't have one on record. I knew I had booked, so I found my email confirmation and sent it to her. Communication was a struggle; she often took days to respond, and I had to push for updates. Eventually, she said that the two-hour appointment I had wasn't long enough for what I needed, though this was never clarified when I initially booked. She said I should cancel it and couldn't get me in for another month! Had she communicated and been responsive I could have booked properly way sooner. To add to it, Julie's attitude came across as quite rude, which made the experience even more frustrating. Although she seemed knowledgeable, the communication, scheduling issues, and lack of attention to detail left me disappointed with the outcome.

I am very disappointed because I am looking for a salon to frequent since I'm still new to the area and this one looked amazing. I've attempted to contact this business three times by the phone number listed on Google. It is an hour after their listed opening time and nobody is answering - fine, they may be busy. (EDIT: Yelp was the only site that indicated they are closed today.) However, it seems they've simply turned off the phone or are sending calls directly to voicemail as it currently rings once and goes right to a personal voicemail for "Mandy". Their website indicates someone named Mandy works there, however, why is the listed number her personal phone? And if it isn't her personal phone, why is the message a slurred "this is Mandy, leave a message"? Who am I calling? Either there is a strong lack of basic professionalism here or their Google and website info is wrong. Either way, it's left a bad taste in my mouth and I have no desire to use this salon anymore. I shouldn't have to play phone tag with a stranger to get my hair done.
