I would like to preface this bus stating that I have been a customer of PC in Escondido since it opened its doors many years past next to the funcoland location... maybe not so long ago. PC is and has been a very trendy store where one can find trendy as well as classic items for a lower affordable rate as it is likely a resale from the store to customer for the second time. Many times deals can be found in just about everything not to mention the ludicrous sales like the fill your bag sale or 2$ clearance items. The heart and soul of this operations is the employees that run the day to day operations as well as the purchasing of the items which is a major component that helps PC succeed. In my time shopping I have seen a plethora of employees and many if not the majority have been exceptionally great. The current crew is the best set of individuals doing an exceptional job and should be commended for everything they do for Escondido and how they have elevated the franchise as a whole. I would like to particularly single out an employee who has demonstrated that being exceptional is achievable. Through her personal standards she ensures the world sees the best of her and this energy carries to her coworkers. The above and beyond attitude she has carries into the customer service she provides helping the customer feel welcomed. Valeria G. Is committed to ensuring the customer is happy and satisfied by being able to pair pieces and style an outfit based on the myriad of trade insight she has developed in her young career while taking fully into consideration the wants and needs of any individual. PC needs to be commended for finding such a wonderful employee who elevates the brand and ultimately the customer experience as well as recognizing the rare jewel of an employee that many businesses wish to posses in their team. I visited the store on Sat 03/03 around 530pm to sell my clothes. They only took 1 item which is fine with me. I understand this store is re-selling and depends on the buyer knowledge. My issue is the employees that currently working at that time. If I recall, she has a dark medium length hair. She couldn't be more rude and disrespectful when she checked me out (it was just me in line. The store was not busy at the time during check out) as if we are begging them to buy our stuff. I didn't question her one bit about the purchase yet her body posture, tone and eye contacts was very unprofessional. read more

I would not recommend selling your clothes here. The girls are incompetent. Even if they do choose some items to buy, it's a total rip off on how much they give. They're somehow super picky and yet what's for sale on the floor is terrible quality stuff. Wasted an HOUR of my time to send back ALL my stuff. Told me that my clothes "won't sell" and some fabric isn't going to sell... but they have a ton of cheap old SHIEN clothes?! LOL. Shien is TRASH. I even had brand name stuff (PINK, pac sun, American eagle, etc). Waste of time. read more

I've recently discovered Plato's Closet and have gone there a handful of times. The place jammed packed with a lot of trendy second hand clothing but recently I noticed the prices have gone up. When entering the store, all the sales people seem to only cater to people who donate used clothing and not so much help buyers. I look to buy retro clothing but find cheap clothing from teen stores at the malls. Once in a while I will find higher fashionable designer products but it's always in small size. I keep hoping it would get better. One thing I cannot stand is messy store and lately I find wrong sizes everywhere which is frustrating when I want to find my size. Some of the floor personnel seems unfriendly and uninterested in helping let alone keeping the store organized. Sorry for being honest. to sell & buy: absolutely not. they rip you off for the things that they do buy from you. the selection has gone downhill so bad over the years. i brought in a basket of clothes that are good quality & ACTUALLY STYLISH & they didn't accept them. took 7 items and gave me $17, yet they are now going to resell EACH of the items for $18 each. lastly, i had all of the clothes folded nicely in my basket and they handed it back to me all just thrown in there. please don't sell to them. it's such a rip off. read more

Great selection of clothing, shoes and accessories. Was able to find the look on boots that were available in their inventory in the back. The service was horrible ! As they say they will take items that are good quality brand names, they were trying to give me back Victoria Secrets, etc .. They said that "they didn't take bras or lingerie" as I picked up both those items that they were selling and told them what's this then ?? Why won't you take these as they were brand new ! She then gave me money for it after I was confused on why they would take it from someone and say they don't take those items . NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN !!!!! read more

Plato's Closet sucks, period. I've been in once before years ago at the old location and had a much better experience. I went in today to try and sell some of my good quality, barely worn clothes; brands included Forever 21, Lucky Brand, H&M. I had a chance to look around the store while I waited for my things to be evaluated. I was shocked to see jeans and shirts on the racks with holes, stains and obvious wear. Shoes that had been worn so often that the label on the inside was rubbed off. Surely, my almost brand-new clothes were going to sell. I never saw my name on the screen so I went up to check on the progress to find out it was done. They took a sweater from Forever 21 and a no-name poncho-type hoodie, and gave me $9.80. The rest of it was rejected for not being a "teen" brand (teens don't wear BRAND NEW Lucky Brand jeans??!). I'm not really offended because I know my stuff was quality, but I'm surprised they wouldn't take some of the brand new Forever 21 tops I had thrown in the bag. The selection on the racks was poor quality, I definitely won't be back. Off to Buffalo Exchange I go! read more

I drove 35 mins for them to take nothing. I brought 5 bags of cloths were lots of them still had tags and were higher brands barely used. When I got the bags you could tell they weren't even looked through. Seems like there too lazy to look through the cloths people are bringing in. They said to me they wouldn't take it because of wear, but all the cloths looked brand new so I'm just confused. Every time I go in here the staff just seems to be a bunch of young little girls who don't want to do anything. Do not recommended coming here to sell yours cloths. I will just be taking it to good will where people will appreciate the nice cloths. read more

I took my clothes to sell yesterday. while I'm waiting for them to go through my items I'm looking around waiting. They didn't have that great of a selection lots of Walmart brands priced higher than they are at Walmart. That's not the reason I'm leaving a one star review though, I brought it a pair of gym shark leggings that were brand new. I'm curious how much they offer me for them because I know that they are a more expensive item, the cashier at the time tells me they didn't purchase any gym shark leggings so when I get home I look for them & they're not in my basket. If it didn't show in their system that they bought them from me then that means I wasn't compensated for them. (So my item was stolen) very very upset. The Plato's in San Diego is much better so next time I will be going there instead. read more

I haven't been to Plato's Closet in well over three years. I used to shop there back in 2010 all the way into 2018. Now that I'm in my 30's, I wasn't sure what the experience would be like coming back. But today, I decided to give it a shot. Here's a breakdown. 1. I knew some of the brands I was looking for and the pricing of them brand new. This helped me see I was getting a good deal on almost all the items. I saw a review stating they overcharge. That could be true but I think you need to be a smart shopper. I think every place you buy anything at overcharges to some extent (except Costco and In n Out if I'm being honest.) Knowing a brand new pair of American Eagle jean pants (even shorts now) are like $50, I got some for $18 and under, and even grabbed a pair I normally wouldn't go for, simply because the price was right. Sure, sometimes a clearance item new elsewhere is comparable to the price here used. But then you have to hunt down deals and hope they have your size in stock. I just find it easier to do a big clothing haul here. 2. Used clothes are my jam. I don't like spending a lot on new clothes. What if I spill my overpriced Starbucks on my new overpriced jacket? Then I'm out all that money. However, you have to look at the items. A few had sweat stains. One dress, while super cute, had a strap that was barely hanging on for dear life. I just made a note of the brand and size to look up later if I wanted to try and find it new. But I'd rather accidentally buy a used shirt for $8 with a hidden hole than buy something new for $20 and have my cat tear a hole in it. Not every item is perfect in there but I just try to be observant when trying stuff on. 3. The staff. Oh Lordy, some of the reviews I read about the staff had me a little fearful some 18-year-old with attitude was gonna come at me if I unintentionally side-eyed her wrong. But everyone I encountered there was really nice and accommodating. They offered to help me find stuff, remembered my name, and one woman named Jade was working the fitting rooms and was quick about taking stuff I didn't want and handing me more out of my giant pile. I was also concerned that, given I felt I was trying on half the store, they would be short with me for all the items I was saying no to. But they were all extremely nice. From the girl who showed me how to measure pants using my arm, to the checker who told me I was only one point away from getting 20% off (and helping me get that discount), I was thankful for them. Because if I feel unwelcome anywhere, I'm not likely to come back. And I really like to shop here, so I'm happy to say everyone working there was great and friendly. (I wish I could remember their names but Jade is the only one that stuck. It was the afternoon staff working on Easter though.) 4. Selling clothes. I used to sell clothes here. I didn't get much. I'd suggest selling online if you're not happy with what they offer you here. I guess when I'm getting rid of clothes, I never expect to get anything back for them. They aren't really an investment. The second you drive a car off the lot, it drops in value and that's how I feel about clothes (which is why I hate buying them new.) I've seen a few bad reviews about the selling process here so that's why I thought I'd bring it up. It's a business. They're here to make a profit. I once tried to sell a Lauren Hill CD at a garage sale for $7 and was laughed at. I was a kid and in my mind, that CD was $20 when I bought it and was still in perfect condition when I sold it. But people didn't want to pay more than $1 for a used CD and I didn't understand it. I would just say don't expect to get rich selling clothes you changed your mind about here. But if you want to get rid of stuff, might as well make a few bucks if you can. They donate what they can't sell to different organizations from what they've said. All in all, it was a great experience coming back. I got a ton of stuff and plan to come back for more. I really don't have anything negative to say. Not everything is for everyone. But for now, this is a place I'm planning to continue shopping at. The staff being so accommodating and the clothes being so affordable made for a successful shopping trip on Easter Sunday. i drove 40 mins to drop off my clothes and they told me they were not accepting any more, then they told to come back the next day at 10am opening time. i come back the next morning (40min drive as well) and they said their system is down and can't open the store and they don't know what time it'll be up again. read more

I went to Plato's with an entire bin packed with clothes and I waited an hour and a half for them to take zero pieces. It was a 30 minute drive from my house so it wasn't worth going back and forth so because of that I stayed during the hour and half just browsing their selection. The place was extremely disorganized, overcrowded, and messy. I found multiple pairs of jeans that had stains in the inside. Many tank tops with deodorant stains all over. And t-shirts with huge orange foundation stains all over the collar. I wanted to try on a couple shorts and I waited by the dressings rooms and no one came to help me. So I asked the front where the girl just ignored me and looked to her other co-worker. The entire time I was there i revived no help or costumer service. And the girl who did my clothes was extremely rude to me. The pieces I had in my bin were wild and fable (Target), Banana Republic, Levi, and some other randoms. They ended up saying the reason why they didn't take my clothes was because it was "12 months out of style" and that it "needed to be re-laundered" which upset me because I had washed and steamed all the pieces before coming in because the place I went before said there couldn't be any wrinkles. The entire duration of my shopping a recording comes over the intercom to say how it's important to recycle your clothes so they don't end up in the landfill and to help the environment. I was extremely disappointed that they turned away many pieces of clothes that were warn only once or twice that could've gone to a low income family in need who can't afford name brand or store bought clothes. read more

All of the staff was so kind and helpful. They thoroughly explained the reasons for passing on items when I sold and were always looking to help while I was shopping. I wish I got her name but the girl ringing me up was especially helpful. She had her name tag tucked in but was wearing an orange/red sweater. Along with the great staff they have cute clothes at affordable prices. I got a few jackets with one of them being Lulu Lemon for only $20! As a side note I could hear them greet each an every customer as they walked into the store. Love this place :) read more

I've sold here once and got around $70 for 15 items that were either brand new with tags or in like new condition. I was honestly surprised that they were interested in that many of my items. It took them maybe 15-20 minutes to go through everything so I looked around while waiting. Nothing caught my interest. There were a lot of clothes, but the style was pretty weird. Supposedly they buy what's "in style." But I didn't see much. I did see a few shirts that were ripped or had stains on them but were still being sold for $10-$20. Personally, I wouldn't buy from here. Nothing against this place, thrifting just isn't for me. But I would definately sell my items that are just taking up space. read more

Love this store. It is the helpful employees which make all the difference. Let me tell you, I hate shopping and hate it even more with my teenage daughter so we have found this is the place to go. They have such a large selection of items that are affordable and on trend. Shout out to Valeria Gomez on our last visit. She tirelessly helped my daughter pick out shorts when I thought there was no hope. Her patience was endless and we ended up with a few cute outfits. My daughter looks great. Thank you Valeria! This is probably my least Favorite consignment store. Their computer system which "prices" clothing you want to sell is very off. You can have the latest, unworn designer items and they want to offer you 3$ for something retailed at $100 lol. I highly recommend going to other stores. Also please fix your horrible entrance door. It's broken and very hard for your costumers to enter your store. There's some things you shouldn't be "cheap" about and door entrance door shouldn't be one of them. I've gone to Plato's a few times and normally everyone's pretty nice but this time the sweetest girl helped me. Josie was so nice she saw me looking for active wear and brought me a bunch of gymshark tops and alphalete tops. I normally get so overwhelmed shopping and only leave with a few things but she kept bringing me stuff I liked so I ended up leaving with like 9 items. Loved my visit! Thanks Josie! read more

I've never seen so many ugly clothes in one place. I genuinely started taking my camera out and started taking photos of the clothes but there were too many pieces to include in the review. I mean REALLY UGLY. Lol also, for everyone selling clothes here you're better selling them to friends or on Facebook. They already make them "50-75% off and you got get a third of what they sell them for. But if you're desperate then they're a good place to go too. Also this place is really dirty and has a nasty smell. I went when they had a sale and women were standing shoulder to shoulder. If you're looking for a place to shop for lightly used clothing articles at reduced cost or want to give some of your items a new home for some spending money this is your place! The store isn't that big by department store standards but there's a lot here and it's for the most part efficiently packed and organized. I'd say two thirds of the store is allotted for women and the rest for men. Everything I saw was clean and in good condition which speaks to the discerning eye that they take items in. We brought in two large bags of clothes and they found 6 items that they were willing to purchase. Understandably they are choosing items that they can turn around quickly and for a profit so your best bet is to bring in style items here quickly and not dawdle. A great place to try to stem the wasteful effects of excess apparel consumption where everyone has to have the latest shiny and new items, but obviously making discerning choices and reducing initial consumption is the first line of defense. read more

I've been shopping at this particular Plato's Closet ever since they've opened. I do appreciate the organization of the store based on size and/or color. It helps ease the shopping experience. They have a great variety of clothes for reasonable prices, if you take the time to look. On the other hand, for the past few times I've shopped and sold I've developed mixed feelings. Whenever I enter the store it takes about 5 mins before my nose becomes irritated and I start to cough. I believe it may be due to the dust and fibers in the air, settling in the carpet. So for those with asthma be wary. Being an avid shopper, while filing through the clothes I've noticed a considerable amount of them with small stains, piling, and/or small holes. Things that they dislike if you sell your clothes to them. When I've sold in the past (1-2 years ago from now), I believe I received adequate pay for the amount they wanted to buy from what I had brought in. Ex. 4-5 items for $30. Using Plato's Closet as a way to receive cash the same day is convenient compared to selling it yourself or using a popular app. However, the past few times I've sold my items I've brought in a great amount (perhaps 30+ items) they only pick out 5-7 for $12 to $25. Not only do I bring in a good amount of clothes, they either had its tags still on, recently purchased within the time period they say they're look for, trendy, and/or from high name brands. The staff is ever changing, only a few I've recognized from the past. It is a good place for high schoolers or college students to start out for a part time job. Due to the ever changing employees, my remarks about experiences I've had reflects that. Majority of the time the girls (sometimes guys) are helpful. It ranges from the nearly employed being overly helpful to some with a need for customer service improvement. So it's up to you if you'd like to sell to them or not. If you were going to donate your items in the first place, I would sell your items here first and then ask the employees you'd like to donate. read more

Buyer & seller experience~ SELLER EXPERIENCE: This is the type of place you bring in your clothes from more low-end brands/fast fashion such as forever 21, H&M, Hollister, American Eagle, etc. (although they accept American Apparel/topshop middle-end brands & higher end ones too but I don't recommend bringing here). If you have high expectations for a store that's this discounted you're dumb. I brought in 2 garbage bags full of clothes many with tags & without all in acceptable to new condition. They picked out 10 items total they liked. I brought in 3 topshop dresses with tags still attached that said $75 but they offered me like $7 for each so I declined. In the end I agreed upon selling only 6 out of the 10 items they picked. I didn't care about these items at all & they offered me a total of $27 which is low but I expect it since this place sells everything for under $20 about. I sold them an American apparel jacket, 3 pairs of Cathy jean shoes, a pair of Levi jeans, & a dress. Frankly it was originally worth over $250. I accepted it because I don't care about those items & am too lazy to list online cause they weren't anything special worth listing. So as a seller you won't get much, but it's a nice way to get rid of stuff you're too lazy to sell & don't care about. I would've ended up donating them anyways so it's nice to get some cash back. They determine the price to give u based off a system in their computer and it usually offers you $1-7 depending what the item is. In the end though I'm happy because I don't have high expectations for this kind of place as a seller & I don't get why people get so upset over what they give you because it's business model makes sense to me. BUYER EXPERIENCE: Great prices for people on a budget. Everything is like $20 or under. Nothing in here is my taste because I don't shop at Forever21, H&M, American Eagle, Hollister, etc. this company sells the fast fashion brands but I think it's really good for people who do shop at these places because you get the same stuff for a fraction of the price. They carry mostly sizes S, M, L. I find XS & XL to have a significantly smaller section. The store is pretty tidy & is organized. Also, they carry men & women's clothes. read more

This place is really filthy and will leave you feeling so gross and wanting to wash your hands. Majority of the clothes they sell are worn out, have severe wear and tear, have nasty stains on them, and are overall in such a bad condition. This highly contradicts their mantra of selling "gently worn" clothes. This location does not have many high end name brands, which makes sense given the areas demographics. The purses are worn out and have dirt and smudge stains on them. I was overall disgusted. Also, I'm not sure if it's the store supervisor, a tall bigger white girl with a dark brown long bob that has pink streaks, but during my trip I heard her speaking highly negative about her own co workers. It was disturbing to listen to during my shopping experience. This was on Saturday (11/3) around 5pm. Please see that she gets more training because she lacks professionalism, especially when constantly around clientele. read more

The WORST experience EVER!! Literally had the staff rip through three bags of clothes like vultures! I laughed and said, "you can't be serious going to hand me back ALLL those clothes that were nicely folded that are now in a pile of a mess?" The girls looked at me so surprised at my comment! They literally stared at me! I asked to speak with the manager and a sassy gal proud to announce she was the manager said that is how corporate trained them. I said, "Really? NOBODY trained you to problem solve when a customer is disappointed? THAT would be against corporate policy?" I counted at least 8 employees in the store! I will NOT ever go back to this franchise of a corporation. I spent 20 minutes folding my clothes well enough to go back into my bags. whithe staff stood there and stared at me. THIS is what our highest ever minimum wage rate employs! After I was done, I had been asked 4 times if I wanted an email to contact corporate. I FINALLY took the information and will be contacting them as well. They were so smug, came across like, we're not going to get in trouble, here's our corporate info. News flash Plato's employees, I don't want anyone in trouble. I want to support a business who treats their customers like they would want their mother treated. I want to support a local business that would much rather have staff go the extra mile in order to make sure NOBODY needs to be given corporate information to share a complaint. **Update** Even worse, the owner stalked me on my LinkedIn profile and did NOT respond to my review. Being a General Manager for an establishment, I ALWAYS replied to a ANY poor review. Nowadays, ONE unhappy guest can equal to a dozen or more simply due to reaching others on social media. Super disappointed in the unprofessional manner of this location Completely unprofessional response by the owner! With Yelp you are able to privately reply to a review and sort out the situation. To give a half hearted apology and then turn around and point the finger at me in the end is NOT business worthy, nor what Yelp suggests a business owner does. I know, because I reply to Yelp reviews on a daily basis. To coddle staff that have no idea on how to problem solve and do that on a public platform just lets me know, going elsewhere with my business was the best idea and much more profitable for both parties. Also, to not have your own photo on a company you own is questionable. I remember you and your wife 10 years ago when you were at the other location and wish nothing but success for you both. Though, hopefully you take a moment to react out of profession and not emotion when a patron chooses to announce you publicly. Not the best place to sell your clothes if you have anything decent/fashionable. They think your nice, branded clothes, purchased within a year with the tags still on are worth $2 or so. They claim that they only purchase clothes that were bought within the last year, and I KNOW they've taken some of my clothes that have been longer than that but still fashionable, so the system doesn't make sense. Last time I went a long time ago, they went over which items they "bought," so I had the chance to decide whether I was willing to let go of my clothes for what they were offering. Maybe their system changed, but this time they didn't, and I really should have asked. I felt rushed during the buying process. Only bring stuff you wouldn't care to make money off of/would have donated anyway. I brought in 2 full bags of designer brands and other nice brands (most with tags and no flaws) clothes, Hudson jeans, current Elliot, Paige, Madewell, etc. they were only going to buy 5 (including rag & bone tag says $200) items for $25! This store is what people may call a "50 foot fakeout." It looks really appealing that all brand name things are very low price, but about 70% of the clothes is outdated. It's a fakeout, because all the items are organized by size and color, but when you look at each individual piece, I wouldn't find myself wearing half of the stuff they carry, even though the price may be reasonable. I also took away a star, because I've had several problems with the attitude of the workers. I've dealt with some that are immaturely sassy and uninterested. Once, I politely asked that I was ready to check out when the only girl at the cash register was. Well she took that literally and made me wait about 15 until she was done folding an entire stack of clothes. That was unnecessarily annoying.
