I had high expectations for this place was unfortunately, I was disappointed. I loved the size of the place. It was roomy enough to not bump into other shoppers while I was shopping so that was nice. They had a sizeable accessory section with a good variety. The staff didn't greet me upon entering. But what I didn't like was that the clothes were more worn than most other Plato's Closets. Plato's Closet is one of my favorite places to shop. Not only can you shop at this thrift location, but you can also sell your clothes. They have no bag limit, but other locations will limit you to 2 bags per customer. The staff is well trained in knowing what is in style and how to properly examine the pieces to come in. I've been to other Plato's (I am also a former employee - back from college) and I think Michelle, the owner, gives the fairest rates so I prefer coming to this location although the Fairfield and Edison locations are closer to me. They have an extensive women's selection, a smaller men's section and even buy shoes and accessories. Sometimes items are not in season for the store to buy or they are overstocked in that category, but I would not let it deter you from trying to sell because you can always try again at a later time. They often have deal days like where the clearance is $1 per item. The only down side - and this is the case in thrifting, in general, is that sometimes I find the cutest item but it isn't in my size! But that's the nature of the game! If you are looking to get rid of clothes or do some shopping to add to your closet, Plato's closet is a great choice! Really quality items for great prices! read more

If you are black give your clothes to your palm-colored friends. If you don't you will be told your clothes are outdated and will get nothing. I gave another rejected bag to my friend and she was paid for the same items they rejected! The people here said Jordache is outdated however Macy's is currently selling it. Today's teenagers are wearing 90's styles. The clothes are not even from the 90s and were recently purchased. I miss the timeframe for store returns and exchanges so I brought them to Plato's Closet. I guess they don't know the difference between "Polo" and "LAUREN" by Ralph Lauren. Don't waste your time! This location recently moved from Princeton to Lawrenceville. The store definitely got bigger with a lot fresher interior to it. I honestly believed that platos will not be the same when it moves to Lawrenceville but I really liked it. Staff is friendly and helpful. At this location you could sell your u wanted clothes. You may drop off your clothes and shop within the store while staff scans through your clothes to see which one can be accepted for cash. They also have a point system that can help you receive different CouponS! I think it's a great idea. The parking is free and convenient. Only speaking for the men's section there was A LOT of clothes ranging from well known brands to unexpected brands you wouldn't think to find. Lots of shoes if you are really looking for a pair for yourself or to resell since the shoes were pretty clean, just have to watch out for the fakes in there but if you want to just wear them it isn't bad quality if you don't mind it. Prices were a little more on the well known brands but weren't terrible, still very low for the quality and brands of the clothes. The store looked very well kept, clean, and organized. Staff was nice at the register. Overall a pretty good thrift store in Jersey area. read more

Plato's closet is my favorite consignment shop. The selling process is rather simple. They take young and "in-style" clothing only so, I would not recommend selling and professional clothing. They will not take it. The only issue that I have ever had with this store is finding an employee to help unlock a fitting room. Horrible place. I would rate it 0 stars if I could. I went here during non busy hours, a mid Wednesday afternoon. To begin, I was "greeted" by a very rude worker who didn't even say hello and was very short and unprofessional with me. It took over 2 hours for them to look at my items, which was one bag. But here's the kicker - they didn't even look at my items. When I went into retrieve my items, they were all in the bag in the same order and another rude employee said "we can't take these because of wear" meanwhile, I had brand new Free People items in the bag, but they wouldn't know that due to not looking at what I brought. These girls are distraught, snobby, lowlifes who don't know the first thing about working retail or being professional. Horrible place! We took 4 huge suitcases in 3 days and sold 2 pieces of clothing! We had clothes with tags still on, clean worn only once or twice, bought same season, clothing they are looking for and saying they are interested in, designer names and etc. But we would get ridiculously dumb reasons for not taking like they outdated, not in season or bad condition... Sometimes the cases were packed exactly like it was when brought! And the items they sell are in such atrocious conditions I wouldn't take if I was paid! I found out that the employees ask their friends or family to bring in their clothes and buy it all, then can't buy from paying customers! They have kids working there that has no clue about style. I frequent this Plato's but Everytime I leave I swear that's the last time. But, fairly decent prices keep me going back. I have never dealt with so many young women who clearly have not be taught any manners. The inconsiderate, lazy and distracted employees will keep many from returning to your establishment. When selling items, I understand if the piece has wear or isn't from a name brand that you offer lower price. BUT when I go in there with free people, JCrew and American eagle I don't expect to be offered $5 for 4 items. It is not right. Brought in 18 items to sell with brands ranging from forever 21 to urban outfitters/free people. They took 14 items and passed on a couple pieces that I expected them to. Got around $48 which is expected if you take into consideration how cheap everything in the store is. Ended up snagging a couple of dresses from free people and top shop which if I had bought from the store probably would've retailed a little over $400. After the trade from my buy I spent about $40. The store was relatively well organized and whoever was working the floor was doing a great job considering it's the weekend and they were pretty busy. Only complaint I have about the shopping is that I wish they would back stock some of the shoes in order to make shopping them easier. That being said, I recommend anyone to come in just be prepared to have to go through a lot of items, also don't stick to your own size, since every item is from a different brand you never know what you can fit into. They give you chump change and re sell everything higher then what they offered you ... The girls don't even look thru half the stuff because they are lazy . I don't understand ... Extremely rude and disrespectful. They asked me a few questions about knowing their policy and I said had been to another location before and after I said that they were almost nasty... for what reason? I don't have a clue. I left and came back an hour later and they had all my stuff completely untouched like they didn't even bother looking in the bag everything was exactly how I left it and folded it. They said there was animal hair on cloths and could not accept it.... I dont have an animal if anything it was fuzzies from a teddy jacket I also had in the bag. I just left. I'm honestly truly disappointed, I called twice asking what the store accepted they said all name brands that have been in stores within the past 2-3 years. Never said they were not accepting spring clothes never said they were over stocked. I did not find this out until I waited 45 minutes for my clothes to be looked at. I'm amused by the haters writing bad reviews because this place won't take their unwanted clothes off their hands. As a shopper I can add my own comments: the men's section is not big guy friendly. Pants go to size 40 and there's a limited amount of extra large shirts, etc. Everything looked of good quality, but the prices were on the higher side for used clothes. The staff was friendly and the men's section is laid out decently. The changing rooms are in good condition. I didn't spend a lot of time in the women's section beyond passing through it, but I didn't see a women's plus section; the vast majority of the women's side of the store seems to be given over to straight sizes. read more

This store has no high-quality clothing. I can find better quality and brand new at ROSS. I even brought brand new items to sell. ASOS, Moth Cloth, Roxy, Ugg, etc. And they did not want to buy them. The new location is much larger and easier to navigate. However, the clientele seemed to worsen with the new location as well. Never had any real issues selling my clothes to them, they never take everything but I don't expect to make a ton of money from them either. Some of the staff working are really sweet while others need to check their attitudes at the door. Quite a dump. Went there twice to sell some items and both the times, the sorter said the items weren't currently in style..although I saw the exact same designs on sale! Not the best place to sell your clothes. They are always overstocked in everything and they don't seem to have any system in place for control how much they are taking in at the time that people try to sell their clothes. They do have a solid selection of clothes but I personally wouldn't shop there all the time. I think their target demographic is mainly teen girls/college aged girls (between 13 and 20 y/o) so being in my mid 20s makes me feel a bit out of place in there, even though there are plenty of items available for people my age. read more

I wanted to get in touch with the owner of this platos. One of your sales persons who put prices on your merchandise has not been putting the better stuff on the sales floor. She herself put a hold on many items while the customer stands there waiting for a price this has happened twice if they say it doesn't they are not being truthful. The associate is a very thin middle eastern or ,indian decent . This happened with a burberry mens shirt and also a armani sunglasses.. If you check your cameras you will see it happens more often than it should. I went on the hunt to find a blazer for an upcoming interview. My local Plato's Closet basically had nothing (Deptford) and I figured I would try Princeton. Let me start out by saying that this store is small. Compared to the Deptford Store and the Broomall store, it is a smaller store. I am used to there being more selections to pick from. Although the store is smaller, it appeared cleaner and fresher. The dressing rooms were tiny and they didn't have a stool for me to put my stuff on. I was able to pick up two blazers, one being a brand new, from Gap, and originally priced for $70 dollars. The staff didn't have attitudes and they were attentive... they even greeted me with a hello. So far I have to say this has been the best Plato's Closet experience I have had. Would I come back here though? Yes, but only for business attire. read more
