Worst Plato's I've ever been to. I came in with a friend about an hour before closing only to be stared down by the workers who were making rude remarks. I was looking through a rack of shirts and one girl working came uncomfortably close trying to get me to move so she could fix the hangers. Then she proceeded to storm past me and say "blows my mind that this many people are here on a Friday night". The best part is when my friend was browsing through some clothes and that same girl worker literally tried to THROW a shoe back on the rack and almost hit my friend with it. Everything was out of place and there were clothes all over the floor. The only decent worker was the lady working at checkout. If you enjoy having things thrown at you, having to step over piles of clothes like an obstacle course, being treated poorly by literal high schoolers, and being talked about right to your face, this is the place for you! read more

This review is strictly for SELLING: Whenever I visit my mom in Wethersfield I always bring a heap of clothes with me to bring here. Don't expect a ton of money, because you certainly won't get it. I generally walk out with 45-60 bucks from a full trash bag. The staff is typical and I've had some run ins with a couple of employees who are particularly rude. However, I did meet one woman who the sweetest and overall genuine (I can't remember her name), and she gave me some HUGE tips for selling clothes to the company: First, and more obvious, anything with stains or tears, they won't take- don't try to sell undergarments either (it's gross anyways; who wants used panties? YUCK). Second: try to keep the style current. It usually takes them so long to sort clothing because they look at the tags to see how up-to-date the item you're selling is. A general rule of thumb is that anything you sell shouldn't be any less than two years old. Third: Sell clothes that are in SEASON. That means that if it's winter, sell your long sleeves, jackets, etc. Those WILL sell over shorts and crops tops during winter months. So keep it relevant. Fourth: Any shirts without hanger strings-those stupid plastic or cloth things that pop out of our shirt while you're wearing it- will be given back. They consider it damaged clothing and won't take it. Ever since I've followed these tips, I've sold nearly every item I bring to them. Whatever they don't take I usually just donate to GoodWill. They definitely won't give you what you paid for but hey, it's $50 more than what you came in with! read more

Great deals on brands other than Hollister/Abercrombie but at times certain items can be overpriced for what is still used clothing. That being said, I have found super deals on Forever 21 dresses that even if you just wear a few times a season are worth the average price of $8! Also, this location has been newly renovated and is super clean, a great and welcome perk to shopping used clothing. read more

Not too bad. I usually go in every 3-6 months or so and sell a tote full of clothes. I'll get back $75-100 and what they don't take back I just Goodwill it. I've never really cared to look how much they're giving me back per item, but being a retail manager I have a lot of clothes (mostly from express or AE) so as long as they give me $ I'm fine. It's easier than actual consignment. I've never had a problem with the employees but I've also barely spoken to them. I'm not one to shop there but if you like second hand clothes I guess it's ok. read more

If you're looking for clothing tailored for tweens and young teens this is the place for you. The store is loaded with an overwhelming amount of American Eagle, Abercrombie, Hollister, Forever 21 and standard non-designer department store brands. Despite the perk of receiving cash up front, as Marisa said, consigning there is pretty much a waste of time. Although it's a perk to receive money up front. I brought two bags in of merchandise and they passed up the Ralph Lauren, Express and Banana Republic (to name a few) in very good condition and took the few non-brand name odd items I had. I walked away with a couple of measly dollars; which seemed worthless. The quality of the merchandise in the store is of fair to poor quality. Items look heavily worn and are priced at what a retail store would put brand new items on sale for. The staff is less than charming, and exactly as one reviewer said, act as if they are doing you a huge favor. With so many other consignment places in the area, do yourself a favor, skip this one and go down the road! read more

I agree with other reviews here. I like a majority of the clothes they offer, but the staff is extremely unprofessional. I hear them talking negatively about customers, their job there, their own personal issues, and they swear loudly. It just makes the whole experience awful. They are not helpful in finding anything. I was impressed by the selection of clothing. Lots of cute tops/dresses for dirt cheap prices. The period for returns is pretty short (7 days), so I definitely make sure to try stuff on before I buy it. The store is huge and fun to shop in. read more

This place sucks. It's super small and dark and dirty and low-class. It was my first time there to sell my clothes, and I'll never go back. The lady who took my clothes had a very professional and rehearsed monologue about the process, said it would take 20-25mins. I waited, she saw me waiting, and then an employee came in crying and my lady took the employee to the back for 10minutes. She came out, I was still waiting, the other employees saw me waiting, said nothing. Finally the next person in line deferred to me, and I asked my lady if she was finished with my clothes. She had totally forgotten who I was, and then I only got $6 for three items. I wasted 45mins waiting for $6! So rude and inconsiderate. read more

I believe their items are way over priced. Better off going to Savers in Newington or Uptown Consignment to get the most bang for your buck. I brought a full bag of gently used clothing along with two brand new pairs of heels and a new wristlet. I didn't get a cent for anything because they claimed it had wear and was outdated. Would not recommend wasting time bagging things up to bring there when you can sell online now through Poshmark and Mercari apps. Not a good place to go if you're trying to make a buck. read more

My sister recommended this thrift store to pick up some winter clothes. It was my first time visiting Connecticut during fall and I needed a few warmer clothes. They have a huge selection of e excellent quality items. I picked out gloves, a sweater, and a beanie. While paying I asked if a designer bag they displayed behind the counter if it was a diaper bag. A woman that carried herself like she was the manager said in a snarky voice "no, we would never carry a diaper bag" the cashier said the one next to it is a diaper bag. I looked at the manager who then said "oh I didn't know" i asked the manager if she could take it down and check, since she doesn't know. Which she did. Turns out they were both diaper bags. I use them to carry my small dog in. My only complaint of this store is the manager and her attitude. I was there an hour and she had a stuck up attitude. She wasn't polite. And no one really welcomed you when you walked in. The store over all has a nice layout. Prices are excellent. And the other staff is polite and helpful. Just try not to ask for help from the woman who appeared to be the manager. read more

I have never been to a retail establishment as awful as this store. The employees are some of the most unapproachable people I have even encountered. I went in to sell some clothing and was completely ignored by all of the employees, mind you there were about six employees standing around doing nothing. I stood there with my bag for a couple of minutes asking for some help before anyone walked over to help me. Their wait time for my one bag of clothes was an hour and fifteen minutes. Absolutely ridiculous considering the fact that they did not appear to be very busy. Upon returning to pick up my items I experienced the same situation of employees blatantly ignoring customers. They were all too busy having their own conversations and eating on the sales floor. The staff was incredibly unprofessional and treated all of the customers as though they were an inconvenience to their day. It's safe to say I will not return to this store. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. First of all Iive over an hour from this location but I really needed the extra money to visit my sick mother pre operation so I took the chance. I've only heard bad things but I figured it was worth it even if they only took a few things from my fully packed garbage bag full of brands they advertise. All my clothes were relatively new hardly or never worn, clean and American Eagle, Abercrombie, torrid, forever 21 and pink. Anyway I should have known as soon as I walk in when I wasn't greeted, ignored and looked down at. I'll never forget her name because of how badly she made me feel. Hallie, a stuck up large not particularly pretty girl so not sure why she thought she was so much better but that's what she tried to make me feel. I was watching her and not even two minutes later and only half way thru my bag she called me over saying that my brands were outdated, they smelled and had stains which they were the brands they ask for, and I live in a clean pet free smoke free house so I know they didn't smell and the majority I never worn because I couldn't fit in them. She made me cry while she called over another lady to join in her making fun of me but the other employee seemed like she wanted to be a part of her mean girl antics. Never will I go here again, I was so upset that I immediately called the next closest store the one by buckland hills Mall. I really wish I knew the girls name is talked to but she told me she was sorry and said please don't ever let anyone make you feel like she (Hallie) made me feel. I never met this girl in my life and wish I knew her name but she made me feel better by that because she is right. I have a teenage daughter that absolutely loves Plato's!! We shop both wethersfield and south Windsor and always leave with a big bag full of great deals. She truly prefers this store over any retail , regular or resale. She loves it and the bonus is I don't have to pay retail prices for name brand items!! read more

We went here today for the first time and were pleased overall. We were looking for men's clothes, and we were happy to find a nice selection. For the ladies, there were plenty of clothes, and found there to be a lot of heels and purses too. The store was busy and the staff was okay... pleasant enough, I guess. There seemed to be general confusion around using the dressing rooms, and the clothes/sizes were disorganized on the racks, both of which are frustrating to a consumer. We were happy with our purchases and will probably be back again sometime. read more

My daughter has been to this store to try to sell her gently used and never worn clothes many times. The last time she had three bags of clothes. She is an extensive shopper, and is current with most of her stuff. Each and every time they said her items were more than two years old. Not sure how they knew this or if it was right. It is so not worth time time to go there to sell any of your stuff. She also did not buy anything while she was there because quite frankly she did not see anything that was remotely interesting or worth the price tag. when they first opened and for many years after they were great, place was clean though outdated, but hey i saved hundreds. They used to have great clothes for cheap now Marshall's across the street is cheaper and new! The funny thing is that they don't buy by interest but by mood of the staff. I have tested this after a few tries, even if I bought something from them and returned in two weeks they would say it is outdated, or read a memorized script out loud. If you try a different day it may be just be the thing they need. Years before, the lady who managed the place Jessica was great at customer service and the customer no matter how cheap the clothes were came first..which makes sense when you get me in the door. If I know I just sold my clothes for like $30.00 then yeah its easier to spend $100 or $200 as I have at the store. Not everyone gets this. I was disappointed when I wrote my last negative review, but since I've now been asked I must say I have done my shopping elsewhere since my last review. Its just so disappointing to over spend on used clothes, be spoken to loudly enough for others to hear the clothes you bring are bad, even if was theirs, and get offered sometimes $1.00 on great condition items like coach booties that sell on EBAY for soon much more!! I don't think they follow the designer they first started with years back, now its like anything you browse has no name brand label, meaning you can purchase the same at Walmart. absolutely DO NOT bring your clothes here to sell. Brought a garbage bag full of clothes that no longer fit me (most of which were less than a year old or had been bought from Plato's closet to begin with) and they only took one shirt and one pair of pants. They seem to be very picky when you are trying to sell back your perfectly good clothing yet when looking on the racks it seems as if they just take anything. Would not recommend bringing your clothes to sell here. Not worth the time and energy. read more

Oh my gosh - I had such a poor experience here tonight. Upon first impressions, the store is kind of a mess. Unkept, and the quality of clothes is poor. The customer service was awful. No greet, no "hi, how are you?" I got an estimate of 30 minutes, left for about 10, came back and looked at clothes for around 20. The women behind the counter were complaining about a customer (used the word "bitch" to describe her), swearing, and talking about their personal lives very loudly. Not just small talk, I'm talking personal details. I stood around and one girl on the other side of the staff area asked if I was all set. I said I was just waiting and I asked if I would get a text when my stuff was looked through and she said yes. So I waited a while longer, watched the employees continue to gab away and look through other people's clothes (with no regard to how they were handling them). 15 minutes later one of them noticed me and asked the other if she looked through my stuff yet. She said no, to which I protested since it had been almost 45 minutes. Sure enough my stuff was done, and I'd never received a text. I asked about it and they said "well yeah sometimes we don't send them". Why did you just tell me you did, then? They offered me $18 for 7-8 items, some new with tags. Okay, whatever. Not great but I wasn't expecting much. Anyway, there was no goodbye, thank you, or have a good night. The customer service really ruined it for me. I will not be back. read more

brought three designer labels in and got less than $20. not quite worth using my lunch hour to drive there and back. the people who work there are kind of rude. if you sift through the racks, you might find one good thing. i would say try tj maxx or marshalls though if you dont mind sifting and dont want to deal wtih the attitude. read more

I'm sorry but I wouldn't step foot back into this dump. First off, it smells horribly. The old clothes smell is too much to bare. Perhaps they should invest in some Febreeze. Secondly, this bad review does not come from the fact that they didn't take my clothes. I really wasn't expecting much of anything as they were pretty dated. I thought if I got a few bucks, great. If not, no big deal. The problem lies in the young lady behind the counter that so rudely told me nobody would accept "these clothes". She said besides them being out of style there was staining. Now, I could have missed some spots, but I would never try to sell clothes that were unacceptable to even donate. She said she recommended I throw them all away. There were a few pieces like scarves, gloves, and some tops that had never been worn. I felt so offended by this. The fact that she repeated herself in front of other customers was extremely inappropriate. The rudeness continued though and the funny thing was that I never disagreed or contested their not taking my clothes and I didn't ask why. I said simply ok and agreed that they were outdated. She had no reason to tell me to toss perfectly good warm winter scarves and gloves, not to mention some professional clothing that could very well be used by someone less fortunate. I'm actually glad that perhaps someone who does NOT shop at this crappy place wear these pieces. read more

Don't even bother trying to sell clothes here. I brought a barely used northface backpack and 5 pairs of Nikes in great condition (among other things) and they only took an old ratty purse from Claire's...? I used to really like the store but whoever is in charge of the buying needs to retrain their employees. All of the stuff in the store is basically used forever 21 clothes that have been shrunk and Hollister. I would love to see more activewear and slightly more adult clothing brands read more
