I have always been a huge fan of the Play it Again Sports franchise. I love the fact that there is a mix of used and new items. Play it Again Sports is usually my first spot to check no matter the state I am in. Their stores are eco and pocketbook friendly. I was excited to come to this store. They just didn't live up to what I expect from Play it Again Sports. Prices did not seem as competitive as other locations. For what I was looking for, there were only new items. That happens from time to time. I understand. I was then hoping to maybe find something else. That hope was quickly throttled. We couldn't look at the middle to back of the store. The front of the store was super crowded with exercise equipment. All it took was a few customers in the stor to make it hard to maneuver. We finally gave up trying to get any further back and left. There were two employees that could be seen in the store. Neither employee interacted with us. read more

Thank the Gods I remembered Play it Again Sports was in Goodyear.I've been on the hunt all over the valley for football gear and every where I've been is completely out. On top of that I needed some softball gear for my other kid as well. So tonight after picking everyone up from practices we ventured over before they closed. Parking is easy in the large shared lot and once inside it was pretty crammed with all sorts of equipment. We were not greeted by either of the two employees when we walked in, but I saw instantly two rows of football pants and jerseys. On another few racks I saw some pads as well. We were specifically looking for black pants and lucked out there instantly . We tried them on to be sure with their dressing room and they fit great. I was able to find a bat along with a couple other items as well. Store was pretty clean. Four stars for having all we needed but I'd say 2-3 for service which did get a bit better at checkout. read more

The owner/operator of this store is a temperamental prick with the maturity of a hormone starved teenager. Summary: offered me $20 store credit for my trade-ins or $15 cash. I needed 2x pairs of kid's cleats ($10/pair retail in his store), which would balance out my needs. Cool. Only problem was available supply meant only 1x size on-hand, left me short a pair of cleats I needed. Cool. Offered a compromise of $10 back instead of the $5, and the dude actually started to raise his voice, become attitudey and aggressive. I tried to rationalize my reality of the fact he didn't have the sizes we needed to make an even trade. He told me, "That doesn't make it worth it to me..." (as if everything I brought in for him in trade was worthless... I digress), "How is that my fault?"... okay, cool, so homey the clown is getting irritated at a dad who is being chill with 3 kids hanging on every word... play cool, let's change the approach... so I proceed to calmly advise him on the economics of his offer versus my very reasonable counteroffer based on my needs of another pair of cleats for my other boy (which his store could not fulfill... hence why I asked for $10 so I could get them at Goodwill), while he paces back and forth behind the counter because his Adrenalin is obviously racing... over what should have been a simple discussion. He then proceeds to tell me these are not retail prices... yeah no crap... you are basically selling me used equipment... and guess what... I'm buying your used equipment. Really just too bad overall, very disappointed that this guy flew off the handle over a $5 difference. Won't be back. I'd much rather donate this stuff to Goodwill than support this business again. They had new football helmets which saved our skin. Shoulder pads were affordable and still had some life in them. Great customer service.

I don't recommend this place and I'm sorry I know these are usually family owned. However, your engagement with customers is terrible. I went in to purchase more baseballs out of the large box that was position next to the register. Interesting enough the young kid mentioned they where not available for purchase. Just the evening before I bought 3 baseball out the same box. Being that it's a small business, you should've done a better job dispensing out the balls for purchase and signage that indicates not for sale, even though I bought from that same box. read more

Before I made the drive (30 minutes) to this store, I researched online. I checked their website to see what used items they bought, and sure enough, they bought all sorts of winter sports equipment which was exactly what I had and wanted to sell. So I packed my hockey skates, inline skates, and snowshoes into the car and off I went. When I got to the store, I had to walk up to the counter where the men who worked there were "hanging out." I felt like I was interrupting something. I said I had some hockey skates I wanted to bring in and I was snubbed and told that they don't take them or ANY winter sporting goods EVER. I said that it said they did on his website and I was immediately told that it was the "corporate site" and it wasn't "their" specific store site. He said the store site they maintain is http://playitagainsportsgoodyear.com. Knowing it was a possibility I had been on the wrong site, I shrugged and left. When I got out to the car, I checked and sure enough that was the site I had been on, and it said they took winter sporting goods! (I have a screenshot to prove it!) So not only was he unapologetic that I had driven all the way down there for nothing, he lied to my face! I will NEVER go back there. If you feel like being lied to, go ahead and go, but do yourself a favor and call first so you don't waste the gas or your time. read more

I visited this store in November 2014 looking for a dumbbell rack with diff sized dumbbells. There were 2 clerks and I was the only customer in the store. They both appeared preoccupied with whatever they were doing at the counter(texting, reading, loafing...you fill in the blank)! Poor customer service, no greeting, reluctant and lack luster assistance when I ask for help with some equipment, condescending language. I felt like I was a bother to them so I walked right out of that store without a word. Shame on them for treating a paying customer with such disrespect! I'd rather buy it new. read more

I had a great experience shopping here at Play It Again Sports Goodyear. I recently bought some power blocks 2 months ago and they have been great. My clients love them and they are the real deal. I was very impressed with the customer service and all my questions were answered before purchasing this product. One of the staff members even helped me load the PowerBlocks to my car. I originally bought weights at Play It Again, for $121 - went to Walmart - saw the prices for EXACTLY THE SAME WEIGHTS- $66. The staff/Mgr was loading the exact weights from Walmart into his vehicle. Since they had bought out all of the Walmart weights there was none for us to buy. I myself have been going to this Play It Again for years...my son practically grew up with their hand-me-downs...after this experience - never again. Trust me, I understand needing to make a profit and I have supported it for years from them however the audacity and pride they took in making 50% profit and in treating their community in such a way is shameful. They took pride in doing it and saw no reason why they shouldn't make as much as they could off of us. read more

I walked around the whole store twice & not a single word. We were greeted immediately and inquired about treadmills. The employee seemed mostly knowledgable about the units. The 2 we were looking at appeared used although he said they were new. Said they were floor units from a demo somewhere the owner had picked up. One had clearly worn buttons on it and the other did look new. I looked up the prices online and asked him if he could do a better price, and he said he couldn't. The weird thing is that both of them were selling on the manufacturers website, brand new for less. We had to decline at that price, but you gotta love the power of technology. We also looked at a heavy bag that was 50 lbs for $60...at walmart you can get 100 lb bag for $60....so know your prices before going into this place. They have a wide selection of new and used sports items which is nice. But when we walked inside, one of the employees was sitting on one of the workout machines ON HIS CELL PHONE TEXTING, and asked if he could help us find anything without even looking up from his phone. That right there is an awesome reason he should get fired. we just couldn't believe that they tolerate that. How lazy. There was another employee that was behind the counter that was actually pretty helpful. He held an item for us because we had to leave and break our $100 bill because they didn't have change for it. Which was sort of an inconvenience but it happens. He has much better customer service than the other guy. Where is the management in all of the businesses around here! Prices for new items are normal retail, used items offer some good deals for specialized equipment, and average discounts for others. On my Wednesday afternoon visit the gentleman at the counter was friendly and knowledgeable about store items. While I browsed he helped another customer at length discuss specifics about a new adjustable dumbbell set and platform, and the pros/cons of various similar types of equipment. Compared pricing, quality, durability, really in-depth information. Not sure if other staff are so friendly and knowledgeable but he certainly knows his stuff. I shopped for a flat weight bench, they had a few new types to choose from. Not a particular bargain but no more than I'd shopped online to find. I called before taking 2 sets of golf clubs in to sell. They said they take them and that was it. I take them there this morning and the guy says they are too old. lol. Both sets are in excellent condition only the pitching wedges have some scuffs. One set is Lynx left-handed with a Datrek bag and the other is Wilsons ladies right-handed with a Wilson bag. I could understand it if they were all beat up but they're not. The person on the phone could have informed me of an age limit on the clubs saving both of us time and hassle. The clerk that was on duty saw me but did not greet me or ask me if I needed any help. I continued looking around and waited to see if maybe he would ask if I need any help instead he left the other guy who was working on the machine and went behind his desk. He continued to ignore I was even in their store I finally decided that this not a place I wanted to spend my money. The clerk was very rude and he made me feel like he did not want me in the store. I had a very positive experience at Play It Again Sports Goodyear. I popped in last Sunday to see about selling my elliptical machine. There were two young men working, and they were perfectly pleasant and well-informed. They gave me a reasonable estimate for my elliptical just by looking at pictures of it, and told me that the manager would be in touch the next day. Though it was more like two days before I heard back from the manager, he called with a consistent offer for my elliptical, and he came to pick it up the very same day. It was an easy operation, and I am content with the price that I received.... Especially since I did not have to move it myself. I recommend this store, and I would consider shopping for sporting equipment there instead of from a new retail location like sports authority.
