Second time doing business at this location. Last time I purchased a rifle, and had decent service. This time I'm just picking up an online order of a few magazines. As I walk around the corner, a gentleman pushing a broom welcomed me and asked if he could help. I think he must have been a manager because he was advising the young man behind the customer service counter on his schedule. I called the store regarding a specific Glock magazine. They advised they had two in stock. I drove 30 minutes to the store. They did not have any in stock. The person who tried to help me stated I messed up in speaking with a woman about firearms. I can see now why this stores ratings are so low. I will never return to this store. This sportsman's location has terrible customer service. I'm not sure if it is because they are understaffed or that they just don't care?! We have been given the run around by them for the last several weeks. We ordered a Traeger Grill online and it was to be delivered to this location in 2 weeks. We are going on over a month now with no answers on where our product is. Everyone wants to keep passing the buck from one department to another. It is super unfortunate that this has been the case as the grill was my husband's birthday present. Unless you are buying something that is already in the store I do not recommend picking anything up from here for an order. In store it looked like they carried all of your normal products/items that you'd see in a sports store. Prices range from low to high. **Update. One of the managers- John was finally able to help us. He was pleasant, communicative, and apologized about the fiasco. The service, or rather the lack of it, in their firearms department is absolutely appalling and highly discriminatory. I made an online purchase but failed to realize it was designated for the Avondale store instead of my usual location. That was my oversight, and I honored my end by going there. I received a notification that my order was ready for pickup and arranged to collect it, just as I have done three times in a very recent history. Upon my arrival to retrieve my prepaid order, I was informed that the store had supposedly altered their "policies" in the past month, which was the excuse provided for their discriminatory refusal to honor the sale. If this sporting goods store chooses to engage in discrimination, it is a terrible practice that will hopefully have repercussions. Despite my desire to finalize the transaction, the store manager refused to proceed. The manager went so far as to label my credit card cancellation as "customer changed his mind," which was nothing more than a blatant falsehood to mask his discrimination. I intended to proceed with the purchase, but the manager refused. I never changed my mind. To provide additional evidence of the discriminatory actions, the manager asserted that a driver's license issued in Arizona is NOT an acceptable form of identification for making a purchase. This same Arizona license was completely acceptable for my last three purchases of a similar kind. It is not unexpected that those who engage in discrimination fabricate absurd falsehoods to further demean the customer and conceal their unfounded hatred. When a retailer chooses to discriminate against eligible buyers who are also members of law enforcement, one can only imagine what Sportsmans will do to any other individual they wish to discriminate against next. Currently, I have decided that I will not visit another Sportsmans location, as there is already an abundance of hatred in America, and I will not endorse businesses that engage in such practices. The customer service was terrible. I stood at the gun counter for over 15 minutes waiting of the sales guy to assist me. He never did. Another young man came from the back and assisted me. I asked to purchase a hand gun, while looking at the one I came for I saw a second one on clearance. My fiance suggested I buy both because of the price. The sales guy kept suggesting I wasn't buying the guns for myself but for my finace. We went back and forth in front of other customer arguing about who the guns were for. He proceeds to go to the back to get the guns. He comes back out and yells me he could find the box to the clearance gun therefore couldn't sell the gun.. I believe he was racially profiling. Manager saved the day, but terrible experience at the location. Kid working the gun counter must've just been promoted and had to show it off. He would not except digital ID for gun purchase. He also told me if I bought a hunting license, I had to wait 24 hours to purchase a gun. He also said he will not accept, the online version for proof of address, valid vehicle registration. He said I needed to print out proof of address and he would not print it out for me. He recommend I go to FedEx or Walgreens. The manager heard of this and immediately came out to assist.had no problem taking my virtual vehicle registration. Overall, I really wish I would've went to the 27th Ave location. Purchasing a gun for self defense as a woman is a big thing and I don't feel like I was set up for success at this store. read more

Place is a joke. Went in to make a purchase. Took a number. They were on 61 my number was 62. Gentleman helps me pick a gun but so happens he's gotta go to lunch and Nick would be helping me. Nick comes out completely disregarding his number system and proceeds to help someone who arrives after me. After a long wait guess who walks out with their purchase and who gets told to go home because its 7:15 and time to shut it down? Would give a 0 star if possible. First called to ask about stock of magazines and was asked to hold while they checked, after 10 minutes I was hung up on and never called back. Against my better judgment I went anyways since I was passing by. After browsing the overpriced ammo I found my mags and went to check out, but was told because my ID was from CA they are not allowed to sell me magazines, which makes absolutely zero sense as it's perfectly legal for me to purchase magazines in other states. I mentioned this to the cashier and all he could tell me was that it's store policy as they can't risk legal recourse, which again there is nothing illegal happening so I don't have the slightest clue what that means. Will never be shopping at a sportsman's again after this experience. Worst service I've ever seen and policies that don't make even the slightest bit of sense. read more

Terrible customer service. Treated my 72 year old mother like a criminal when she tried to purchase a handgun. FYI my mother owns several firearms and currently has her CCW permit. They gave no reasonable excuse as to why they refused her service. She got in her truck drove to Cabelas and made her purchase there and was treated with the respect she deserves. My wife tried to purchase a firearm they would not sell it to her because they said it was for me. I said will sell it to me and they would not sell it to me because she wanted to purchase a firearm. Never again! If I could leave negative points I would. Went to purchase a firearm from them this evening and the jerk of an employee skipped my number so he could help someone he obviously knew. When I told him, he apologized to the guy he tried to skip to and said, "I have to help him first since he pulled a number." He was very much letting me know what an inconvenience I was being. Anyways, he was short and abrasive with me the entire time. I knew what Glock I wanted, as I have been researching it for months before it was finally released, and the store had it in stock. He handed it to me, I held it long enough to make sure it felt right, and was comfortable before I told him I will take it. He asked for my ID, and very condescendingly asked me to cite my address. So I reciprocated his smart a@@ attitude when I responded with the address on my ID. Needless to say I was pretty upset with the way this butthead was treating me. He then goes back behind the door for 15 minutes, comes back and asks me if I am the one who called about this particular firearm earlier. I responded "no," and he proceeds to tell me that he will not sell me the firearm because there have been "4 people" that have come in trying to do a straw purchase on that particular gun today. I explained to him I had no idea what hes talking about, in which he responded, "it dont matter, I am not selling you the gun." He then tells me that it was a red flag that I decided so quickly thats what I wanted and he refuses to sell me the gun. I asked for a manager, who came out and informed me of the same story the old jerk did. I told him I can understand that, but I have nothing to do with that, and its unfair to be treated that way just because I did my research and knew I wanted the gun before I went in to the store. Thank God the nice young man, who was about 30 years the rude morons junior, had enough sense to know difference between a law abiding citizen and a criminal, and very willingly and politely sold me the weapon I wanted. To the rude butthole who treated me like crap, I hope you lose your job over this review. I REALLY hope the owner of this store sees this review and catches this jerk in the act of treating people poorly. You obviously are not fit for your job if you cant take people correcting your negligence without feeling the need to retaliate. I stop by the store today on the way home in Avondale. I don't with Wtattoo at the gun counter. Within no time at all I knew what I wanted and I was buying it. Went to this location 3 times recently to look at firearms. First two times I stood in line at the counter for over an hour without getting help. First time they allowed people to cut in line, lines were not marked, and they wanted me to start at the back of a different line. Second time I waited an hour with only two people ahead of me, most of the store employees stood around the customer service area chatting with each other. Third time, after waiting in line an hour outside, I was told it would be 2-6 hours to get to the gun counter. 1. They should have a senior hour like Cabela's. 2. Their online web site shows almost no firearms stocked at and local stores. 3. The demand has been like this for months. Why can't a huge corporation figure out how to allow customers to pick up an order without waiting in line 6 hours? 4. In the store it appeared to be 2-3 employees helping each customer at the gun counter with more just standing around. Maybe employees should be given commissions to move things along. I wound up spending $2,000 at Cabela's, at 0900 in the morning There are only a handful of customers. read more

Worst service of any retail or food establishment I have ever been in. I ordered a hand gun from their online market place and had it shipped to the Avondale store. Went to pick it up, but, they have a new "store policy". Your government issued photo id must now have your full middle name on it. The initial is not acceptable...Would be nice if the website mentioned this. So, after waiting 37 minutes for my number to be called, my drivers license wasn't good enough. Went home, and I have exactly one piece of government id with my photo and middle name. So I went back the next day...now there is a system issue and I am on delay for the background check. I call 3 days later, and I am cleared...although no one bothered to notify me. I go today to pick it up. I get number 39...they are on 29. Exactly 2 people working the counter who are doing their very best to learn everything they can about the 2 people they are helping...how's the family...do you like Mexican food. what kind of dog do you have. Hot today isn't it...that's a nice cap....does your wife shoot too....I realize you need to be friendly, but, how about helping them and getting to the now 13 people waiting. I waited 42 minutes, was still 6 people out and said...forget it. What a crap experience. read more

This store is a joke with their prices on ammo and firearms. It looks like they have a decent selection, but don't be fooled. I went in for a rifle (Colt, Ruger, Rock River) they had nothing, but the clerk proceeded to tell me that the market is flooded... If the market is flooded, shouldn't your selection be huge? I have bought a lot from this store in the past and every time I go it gets worse and worse. From prices, to selection, to staff, I'm done with this place. read more

I can only give one star wish I can give them a negative*I went there to buy a firearm and I got delayed which is no big deal. Drove from Prescott to Avondale 2 1/2 hours one-way so five hours in total, which once again not a big deal, I got a call to proceed, saying I can come pick it up so I drove back down from Prescott another 2 1/2 hours and they told me I cannot pick it up so that is 10 hours of driving already when I drove back down today to pick it up and they don't want to sell me the firearm anymore total of 15 hours driving please choose. Where are you do your shopping. These people are terrible make you wait at the gun counter forever for absolutely nothing granite me in the manager had some words, but taking that much time to pick up a firearm you are going to be frustrated then for the manager to escalate a situation by talking down to you, like you are a piece of garbage ridiculous shame on them, all they are going to do is comment on my review saying I can contact customer service which I did they do not care about your business. I got a store ban for contacting customer service with my frustration. All three managers that wear the glasses I only know one of their names is Randy. They are all clowns. read more

I went in with a friend for a first store firearm purchase, and was helped by a young man who knew a fair amount on the arms we were concerned about, after purchasing a 33rd glock 17 magazine we decided to check the prices of a nearby pawn shop, big mistake apparently. When we arrived back at the store and we knew exactly what we wanted for my acquaintance, we got stopped by a guy in the back who claims he controls what guns go in and out of the store. He did not help us at all whatsoever while we were in the store but came out to ask my friend why he picked the gun that he picked. after my friend clearly realized he was being discriminated against not for race but maybe because of our tattoos, he stopped answering his questions. i could tell he was frustrated by this man coming out of nowhere questioning him on a purchase; so i butted in and answered the questions and asked why we were being questioned because the store in gilbert never questioned me and i've purchased multiple arms from the store location in gilbert. The guy insists on asking "why didn't you go to that store then?" im because i live closer to this store now? because i moved completely???? why would it matter? he continues to say "i'm going to refuse this sale i don't feel comfortable selling this to you" i replied "well then i'll buy a gun and you can run my if to prove we can both own guns" because i was considering purchasing one if not this week then the next. just to prove a point he was discriminating i offered him to run my is and check he replied with, "no i'm refusing service because you could've went outside handed him the wad of cash you're trying to purchase this gun with and you're answering for your friend," yet i just bought a 33rd magazine for my owned glock 17 purchased at the gilbert location . this store is a joke. and god forbid you walk in with $2,000 in cash these poor bozos have never seen that much i'm assuming. Bad service. Only reason i gave them 1 star is because as i was walking out i was complaining and the store front manager asked me to report the worker for being foul. Good old Sportsman's the prices are normally pretty good cheaper than Cabela's or Bass Pro they just don't have the higher-end items and or if they do they're always out of stock it's hit or miss with the people that work there for information most don't have any knowledge of their products but the ones that they do have their pretty knowledgeable it's kind of like the Harbor Freight of the Outdoor World except for guns and ammo and they have a Rewards Card which is pretty awesome read more

What an amazing store. This is a true shooters paradise. These guys have isles and isles of gun accessories, reloading parts, cases and more ammo than you could ever afford. The guys at the gun counter ante very knowledgeable and super nice. They took the time to show me several guns and made some educated recommendations as well. read more

This place was decent walking in, makes you think it's like Cabela's. It was my first time coming here and let me say that this place had got to have the worst customer service ever. I was in line for about 2 hours at the gun spot. 2 HOURS. Oh but there were people working there, they just acted dumb, walked around; 3 people helping 1 man; that's excessive, meanwhile they got a line of about 12 people. Only putting 1 star because I can't put 0. My wife and I went up to the counter and their representative Elias asked me to stand back. So I did and waited. There were 4 other guys that all saw me standing there. Finally after 20 minutes I spoke up and said "Gentleman how long does someone need to wait to purchase a few guns?" Elias then spoke up and said the gun counter was closed. I asked him why he was barely telling me that if I had been standing there for 20 minutes. His response was "did you ask for help?". I told him that he saw me standing there and he asked me to step back. I also wanted to tell him that I'm not the one working a customer service job where I get paid to help customers purchase merchandise. It's not my job to ask a customer representative to give me customer service. This was a very disappointing first trip to Sportsman's Warehouse. read more

Had a really frustrating experience today. Went to purchase a firearm like a true American and Sportsmans had an attendant outside the doors asking customers if they were visiting to purchase guns. My wife responsed, yes, the woman explained that due to the curfew that goes into effect at 8 pm the gun counter was closed. We arrived at 3:15 pm, with no additional information. We enjoy Sportmans Warehouse but will consider going somewhere in the future for our purchases. read more

I was torn between 2 stars and 3 stars, but decided to go with 3 as of right now pending a change based off my interaction tomorrow when I go to return the product I purchased. I had a good amount of money on a gift card for sportsman's after selling some of my older guns with a plan to purchase a bow. The sale of the guns went mostly great. The guys behind the gun counter were awesome they did have to take pictures of one of my guns that they had to send to corporate for a quote. I was told it would be a few days and I am now on day 6 with no word and I've called several times to ask but there never seems to be a manager available to check. I get it the store is busy and it's not the managers or employees fault they are waiting on a response from corporate. I have been in to the store as it's on my way home from work 4 times in the last week and there has been nobody available to help with archery. So this evening I decide to just purchase a bow with my gift card and take it elsewhere to get set up. After doing some research and seeing what they had available in stock I picked the PSE Brute. Again there was nobody to help and the gentleman helping me apologized and said the bow guy only works a few hours on Tuesdays. After purchasing the bow I took it to a friends hose who much more knowledgeable in bows than I. He immediately noticed that the bow was scratched in several spots, the string was already frayed, the sight was in wrong and the bow had been strung backwards around the cam. It appears I had been sold a bow that was returned or was used at some point. On my way home I took it to Cabelas to confirm what my friend had thought and they pointed out the same discrepancies. Thus far the employees of this store have been outstanding but their apparent lack of managers (almost impossible to get ahold of one when you call) and lack of staff knowledgeable in certain departments has left a sour taste in my mouth. If anyone from corporate reads this, you need to get this store some support ASAP. read more

I from now on will no longer shop with sportsman's Warehouse they refuse to sell me a single box of 9mm to shoot in the state of Arizona. I am a California resident that has been hunting, fishing and shooting in AZ my whole life. I purchased a non-resident hunting and fishing license from sportsman's Warehouse last year. So it is their store policy to refuse ammo sales to residents of California getting ahead of an already tyrannical law that Gavin Duschbag inacted in California, buy not allowing me ammo purchase at all. Who is sportsman's Warehouse to say what I am doing with the ammo. California law says I can't bring the ammo across state lines. The McDowell denied purchase of 9mm ammo based solely on the fact that I was not a resident of AZ.that I intended to shoot in Arizona. I can carry a side arm anywhere in AZ but I can't buy ammo at sportsman's Warehouse in AZ.can't buy cheap ball ammo to go shooting with my friends? They sold me a hunting license last year, screw Sportsman's Warehouse then! I'll be sure to share my experience with everyone I know, many or who, until now we're customers. read more

I went to this store to check out there fishing equipment and was stared at and followed everywhere by the workers, not one employee asked me for help instead they kept following my wife , my son and me Every time I even thought about touching a fishing rod or reel I had at least 1 or 2 workers just staring at us, mind you there was other customers but they were white so they didn't get the same treatment. So we decided not to buy anything because of how uncomfortable I felt. But my 8 year old son had his own money so he bought a case to put bait in and We thought maybe the cashier would be different , but it was the same thing . There was a customer ahead of us (he was white)and the cashier was super friendly and curtious. And when my son was next she ignored him and didn't even say hi or anything tge only thing she said was the amount due and thats it. My son told her thank you at the end of the purchase and got nothing. We will be going to bass pro from now on. I am Mexican and my wife is asian. ps. one employee followed us and stared at us all the way until we left the store. read more
