When you want to save money and participate in sports, you come here. I am so glad that my friend told me about this place. I was searching for an ice skate. This place is stocked with used and new skates for men and women. The guy working that day was very helpful to me. He helped me picked out a skate and I finally found the right one that costed me $17.99 ( can not beat that). I was a happy girl. I saw some old jerseys for $10 but I am going to come back for it. I think this is a great spot for gear in many ways but I'll never again get my skates sharpened here. After my last sharpening, I was having trouble skating. I'm still a newer hockey player so attributed it to my skill set. Finally I decided to have my skates sharpened and learned that they were totally uneven. The person sharpening them was training in someone and even the trainee could see the big discrepancy without prompting. It had been horribly done. When I got them sharpened, there was one 1 employee working and no other customers in the store. If no one was available to do it, just tell me that. If someone doesn't know what they're doing, they shouldn't be sharpening skates. read more

Play it again sports is always good for cheap sporting goods. If you don't mind used sports stuff go to one. This one gets 3 stars because of how small it is, they have some stuff and the staff is friendly but the selection is fairly limited. read more

I got my skates sharpened. They did them on the spot and it took less than 5 minutes. And it only cost $4. Can't beat it.

I've picked up a wide variety of equipment from this PIAS, ranging from used soccer cleats to a brand new baseball glove. Prices are good, and it feels nice to shop at a locally owned store with a home grown, genuine vibe. I went to Play It Again for skate sharpenings, skate bakes, hockey tape, and a visor. The staff was very friendly and helped me out by giving me a discount on many items that I purchased and so my in-store experience went well. One thing that could be improved is the general organization and cleanliness of the store; it's a sty. When I went to put on my skates and hopped on the ice, I found that one of the edges on the back of the blade wasn't sharpened well (not a number 4 sharpener, dull stone, etc.). Not a problem; I have two pairs of skates. So I put on my other pair. Same thing. It was a good thing that I wasn't trying out for a team that day or I would not have made the cut. Needless to say, I will not be returning to get my skates sharpened at this location. I still may try another one however. read more

Knowledgable staff with friendly attitude. I came in looking for quad skates and pads for roller derby. They had nothing and had no suggestions besides looking online. The clerk was friendly and helpful in other aspects. He was not aware of the roller derby shop in Minneapolis (http://www.yelp.com/biz/derby-4-all-minneapolis). This location always has a wide selection of new and used equipment. The new ownership is a huge improvement. They are super friendly and knowledgable about their products and sports in general. I would definitely visit this store before going to a sports authority or another Play it Again. They have the best prices and the management is always on top of things. read more

Alex and his bro are in the process of renovating the store so it's a bit disheveled at the moment. However, the service, prices, and selection are in perfect place. I highly recommend giving this PIAS a chance before going to any big-box retailer, especially if you're just getting into a new sport or have a kid who's going to grow out of gear faster than you can afford it. read more

I bought a set of wheels for my rollerblades on a recent trip to the Play It Again Sports in Woodbury. One of the wheels ended up getting stuck in my blades, which would cause major issues when returning. We took them back to the Play It Again Sports in St. Paul on Snelling Ave. Those guys were AMAZING!!! They went above and beyond to give me new bearings and tried to pry the wheel out for a good half hour. While the wheel will have to be cut out (it was pretty messed up) they set me up with a new pair of rollerblades for less than I spent on the original wheels. If you're having any issues or need help in any way, check this place out!! I met both the owners who were super cool, easy going, helpful, and gave top of the line customer service! I couldn't recommend this place more!!! read more

What a lovely shop - the guys are super helpful and quite charming! I'm a very athletic person myself and can tell if someone knows what they're talking about. The smaller guy even set aside his bruegels donut to come help me with the right ice Skates size. When he couldn't find the size upstairs he even went down to the basement to make sure I found the proper fit. As a bargain hunter and sports enthusiast, I frequent quite a few of these locally-owned, independent stores. For quite some time I've preferred other locations because I've had a sense that this store's prices were high. I decided to write this review because I had a recent shopping experience that confirmed my suspicions. I had visited a disc golf store and another Play it Again Sports the day before, adding to my disc golf gear. I was pretty surprised to find that the discs at this location were a full $2 more then the had been at either the other PIAS or the disc gold store (where I'd expect to pay more). I was comparing the exact models - I had a written list I'd been building and yes, I know that the same model will have different prices based on the material/series. I was comparing the identical product just a day apart. The used disks they had at this store were in horrible shape and, again, were at least $2 more than the same model at the other PIAS store but the other store's used discs were in playable condition. They had a used disk golf bag that was $1 more than the exact same new one at the disc golf store. I expected better, given that they have a big "Disk Golf" window sign. read more

I inquired about roller blades and soccer cleats and they not only helped me in the store but also personally called me as new items fitting the description I wanted came into the store. I told my daughter I wanted snow shoes for Christmas. She went to the St. Paul store and asked the young man for help picking out shoe shoes. Not only was he not informative but just plain rude. I went to the store because she purchased a gift certificate and these are not inter changeable because each store is independently owned. Not only was the young man unhelpful but rude to me. The store in Eagan not only had better looking snow shoes but a cheaper brand. They are helpful at the Eagan store and much more pleasant to everyone. The St Paul store needs to be redecorated not quite sure what the smell was. read more
