Great Store all around!! i purchased a used Squire strat from them earlier this year(First Guitar I have had in 25years) no issues at all. I recently had Vince work on an Acoustic guitar with an awfully bowed neck. I thought it was going to the trash bin(it was that bad). I picked it up today and bow was gone action was low. This guitar now sounds and plays fantastic. Thanks Play Your own and Vince!! Brian

This is an amazing little place. I went on the recommendation of a Ukulele instructor because he saw some Kala Ukulele's with very good prices. I was interested in getting a 2nd Ukulele and changing the high G for a low G string. I played a few of them. There were some make of Teak, Bamboo, and even Electric Ukuleles. I fell in love with an Amahi soprano Ukulele with a Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. The sound was divine and the price was not that much more the Kala's. He said, "You want to hear what it sounds like with a low G?" He changed that string out in seconds! It sounded fantastic, so I bought it. I got a strap and had him put two screws with nuts on it and I was out of there is no time. It even came with a free case! It is a small place but there is a wide variety of interesting instruments inside. It looks like a tiny house, not like in the photo on this Yelp page. There are lots of different instruments, including Ukuleles, Guitars, Mandolins, a Lute, a violin and some interesting percussion instruments. He also carries cases, straps, replacement strings and all sorts of things. He even has finger cymbals and Kazoos! The owner is Vince and he is supper nice and helpful. I think he works a lot on musical instruments for musicians. This place is a real gem!

I first learned about the viola da gamba when I saw Tous Les Matins Du Monde many years ago. I…read morerecently learned about Lazar's Early Music and decided that it would provide me with the perfect opportunity to try to play a viol. Bill was very helpful and patient with me as I explored the instruments in his shop as a first-time player. He has a large selection of viols and early wind instruments of many varieties. Not only did Bill let me try each size viola da gamba (and some baroque violins), but he gave me a basic lesson on how to hold the bow and the instrument and some tips on how to produce a better tone. Bill is an early music enthusiast. He provided me with information about local music societies, and chamber concerts, and a recommendation of his own viol teacher. Before I left, he said I could take a back issue of a Viola da Gamba Society of America newsletter from a selection he had near the door and told me about the workshops that happen each year across the country and his personal experiences attending them.

I visited Bill's shop for the first time today and I intend to return, soon, with a shopping list…read moreand at least one other fellow musician. His website (http://www.lazarsearlymusic.com/) explains his inventory and provides a pricing guide for the instruments he sells, but trust me, if you're a South Bay musician looking for a really nice instrument, go visit. He has a kind and focused attention toward what the customer is interested in, and it sounds like he's deeply networked into the local early music scene - he remembered my recorder teacher, Tom, from a purchase several years ago, for instance. It's a little shop, hard to spot (Suite 200 at the above address, facing outward onto N. Whisman). Looks like he has a deep inventory for the specialized range of instruments he sells. Drop by! Attentive service, deep musicianship, gorgeous inventory.

I've always been a string guy and am a complete newbie to brass instruments of any kind…read more On a hunch, I signed up for Western Nevada College's Introduction to Alphorn class, and Lindsey & Brandi helped coach me through getting basic sounds, finding a mouthpiece that works well for me, and hooking me up with a practice horn to use with the class. He's now playing Principal in the San Jose Youth Symphony and needs something more than the student/chamber model that has served him well these past 4 years. We planned a visit during ski week to see what Silver and Brass might have in stock, and were almost overwhelmed by the supply of instruments to try. I think he actually played about a dozen mid-to-pro instruments, including two Conn 8Ds, Holton 179 and 281, Alexander, Knopf instruments and a Yamaha. All were in shiny like-new condition, and frankly priced to compete with eBay, at a quality that most online sales can't touch. We ended up selecting a truly one-of-a-kind instrument though, a custom, built by Lindsey around a DRGM 8242 Tandem change valves. The lead pipe and bell flare are from a Conn 8D, though the main valve group is from a smaller bore (.480") instrument. It is the most amazingly smooth-playing horn we've ever encountered, based in the original double-horn design that was abandoned in the early-20th century because the original manufacturer couldn't get it right. Simply put, Lindsey got it. The only thing comparable today is the Paxman Merewether. The basic idea is that the usual Bb to F change valve is split into two (3 tubes each), corresponding to the 3 main valves), so that the sides are separated until they come together at the valves. The benefit is that the airstream always goes through the main valves in the same direction. That is, with all other horns, the airstream from the Bb and F sides go through in opposite directions. The result is less turbulence, and a *much* more responsive instrument. It's worth mentioning too that even this description just begins to scratch the surface of what this shop is capable of. They have almost 100 French horns in stock in various states of repair and refurbishment. They can literally build anything you'd want. We benefited hugely from their encyclopedic knowledge of each instrument we tried, and are proud to have made some new friends in the process. Silver and Brass Music is a truly unique treasure. http://silverandbrassmusic.com/index.html

She has been a part of several amazing bands through Jampro, playing both at their awesome on-site stage and at festivals and businesses here in town. Jampro often served as a safe space for my daughter during some difficult times through the years. They treated her like family and I will forever be grateful. The facility is top notch and every thing you'd expect from a high end studio and more. They even have courses to learn audio production and DJ. I went to get an adaptor cable for my interface and the guy at the counter was very helpful, even when he was slammed. He could've easily turned me away or told me to come back because they were short staffed at the moment, but his pride in offering great customer service shined and he was able to juggle both and accomodate us with what we needed, answer my questions, upsell us and service the other customers as well. Another great experience recently I had was with Aiden, a talented guitar tech there, whom I recommend if you need help with bass or guitar questions. I was looking for a pedal as a Valentine's Day present for my kid, but wasn't sure where to begin. He took the time to listen to my needs and was more than helpful, knowledgeable, patient and informative. He explained specific pedals, price points, provided personal experience examples and even showed me some of his own pedals and how he set up his rig for his noise rock band - Shower Head. He played through some of the effects so I could hear them and answered questions for me that I had specific to daughter's aspiring preferences for sounds she wanted to achieve for her own musical project goals - shoe gaze and punk. The problem is this store just doesn't stock much of anything. I leave there empty handed more often than not. If you're looking for anything outside what the majority of people use they will absolutely not stock it. They didn't even have finger and thumb picks the last time I was there. No tone bars for dobro/lap steel. No variety in flat picks, no resonator guitars, no real variety when it comes to strings. As a guitar store, I would think they would stock a variety of things guitarists would want to try, especially cheaper stuff like picks and strings. I don't know who does the ordering for this place but my guess is an AI algorithm at this point. Just another corporate shithole now I guess.
