I guess this place is hit or miss. Usually fresh and yummy, with orders being made correctly and fulfilled quickly. But it can also be under-filled and chemical tasting. I guess it depends on what time of day you order. This afternoon, I paid $20 for a nutella bowl that was mostly granola, a little bit of acai, and a few slices of fruit that tasted like perfume. Unfortunately, this seems to be a theme with most late day orders. If you want the best value, I highly recommend buying in the morning or trying a different location. read more

I love a good bowl. They are healthy and filling. The first time I came here I got the Pura Vida and they accidentally put a few coconut flakes on top of the açaí... I wasn't mad about. So coming this time I added it on purpose. They were missing the honey so it wasn't as exciting. Kinda bummed my morning. My breakfast companion enjoyed the coco bowl. She suggested using chocolate protein to enhance the flavor. The woman that took our order was very helpful and pleasant. Even convinced me to sign up for the rewards program. I only get this in the summer when I'm on the beach it's refreshing and delicious. The prices are way too high but it's worth it for occasional visits. The line is ridiculously long at the boardwalk which it's out of the stores control but there's usually a lot of staff. There's a juice I get in the cooler that is green and is so good too. read more

I have been to a lot of Playa Bowl locations and this might be my least favorite. It's on one of the most popular streets in Asbury Park so parking is not fun as you can imagine. Crowded space inside, waiting area is like a little hallway. Not much room to move around inside. We sat outside on this day because it was nice out. There are big advertisements all over for some type of diet program. Kind of reminded me of something you'd see advertised on IG by someone trying to sell a scam product. read more

There are a ton of different options and they also have gluten free granola & vegan protein. Everything taste fresh and the service is always great. Let me start by saying I LOVE playa bowls n I order from them all the time n will continue, however my complaint is about the customer service at this location!!! I came to the beach for Labor Day w my bf, and we paid for parking until 3, and stayed on the beach until 2:30 so we could stop by here on the way out. We got to the location at 2:42pm n the girl at the counter tells me she's just doing smoothies bc they're about to close. I understand it's a nice one n she might wanna enjoy it, but as a business you should take customers and whatever they desire. While we were on the beach we saw airplanes advertising it, which enhanced our desire to go for some acai bowls even more. I've worked in hospitality and I know how it is when you wanna go home, but you just turned down $30 for your business owner and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate it. read more

The Asbury Park Cookman Ave location has gone downhill over the years. Bowl prices went up and they don't even fill the bowls up anymore at this location. The contents don't even reach the top of the bowls anymore and you're paying $13-. read more

This place has a very cool interior & nice staff. They have a good selection of bowl - the most popular being the Nutella bowl for $11, which my friend order. She gives it a 10 out of 10. It is very obvious that the whole store is under poor management. I was in there when the owner was (keep in mind she was wearing a mask that was see through and was below her nose.) I also must add that the owner didn't even wear gloves. I won't even comment on how unsanitary I found that. If i hadn't already paid I probably would have left. Literal worst playa bowls I've ever been to. The employees weren't that nice. Anyway, I asked for no Açai, instead an extra layer of Nutella at the bottom as a base. I said if it was extra that was fine. They said yes to my accommodations then didn't proceed to actually follow through with them, even though I paid extra. Very disappointed. So one night while we were out at the outlet mall the Playa Bowls truck was in parking lot and I got her a Pura Vida and she was hooked. Now after dinner she begs for Playa Bowls. Good food but the staff has attitudes. I don't need it. I asked for a #1 oatmeal bowl. The chippy says "which one is that? " with an attitude. She turns and says something slick I didn't catch to her coworker. Last time the girl had an attitude too. If I wanted eye rolling , I can hit the streets. I can spend my money elsewhere. Also, please put more Nutella besides a spoonful. The thing costs $8 ....make it worth it if you want to keep customers coming back. read more

I love Playa Bowls I have been to the Belmar, Red Bank, Point Pleasant, and Asbury Park a number of times I'd say I eat from Playa Bowls about 3 times a week. After my experience at the Asbury Park location I will no longer be eating from here again, solely based off the experience let alone the actual food. I have worked in the food industry for years and know that customer service is key. When walking in and ordering my Nutella Acai Bowl I was cut off probably every time I was stating specifications which were "no coconut flakes" and "no bananas, add pineapple" and before I could finish it was "hold on sub what? and ok wait hold on" and I figured the person on the register was fairly new so of course I had patience and its a pretty busy environment so thats a huge factor as well. I had even spoke with Jen I believe her name was about the 3 Day Cleanse and she seemed pretty nice at that point. Well .. I leave and enjoying my bowl, after a few bites I see a hair in the pineapples (maybe my karma for substituting from the bananas?) So I bring the bowl back, there were customers inside and I didn't want to make a huge scene, so I went off to the quite side and let the girl know theres a piece of hair in the pineapples but can I just have a refund as oppose to another bowl (can you blame me for not wanting pineapples from the hairy batch I got before?) Jen rolled her eyes and laughed .. No apology, not even a "omg" reaction it seemed as though this was normal .. Then when getting a refund she was asking the other workers what I had, are you not adult enough to just ask me being that Im standing in front of you? This was just horrible she made me feel as though it was my fault for the hair in my bowl. I had to laugh a little inside because theres a sign outside "Are you Awesome, Join our Team" there was nothing Awesome about the person running the team there, how can you build an awesome team? Went there for the first time about a week ago. As someone who works in the serving industry, I have to point out a few things. The menu looked amazing, tons of smoothie choices so it took time to pick one. The one one employee wore gloves while preparing plays bowls for other customers. A young girl came from the back and looked like she had just cleaned dishes while chewing a mouth full of food. She came up to the counter, wiped her face with her hand and then took our order. I honestly was hoping she wasn't the one about to make our smoothie, because she didn't wash her hands, but she was. So, I watched her make the smoothie. She didnt use gloves while making the smoothie, and added a bunch of what looked like coconut milk to the recipe. As it blended, I could already tell it was watered down. My fiance and I both got our smoothies and then went in our way. Mine was just ok, certainly not worth $9. My fiance's was very watered down and literally tasted like nothing. I asked him if he wanted to go back and tell them, but he didnt feel like it at that point. We both agreed those were probably the worst smoothies we've had. Also, one other side note, the place didnt look that clean. There was a huge puddle of water from the dishwasher on the floor. Even though customers weren't going back there, it was definitely hazardous for employees walking around. In closing, I'd say, this place needs to work on their cleanliness, hygiene, and ensuring smoothies taste good each time. Especially, charging almost ten dollars a pop. read more

I avoid this particular Playa as often as possible. I've had several bad experiences here from snippy, attitude filled service to my order being incorrect. Once I received a bowl w literally a tiny drizzle of Nutella. When I asked if I could have the normal amount I was told with an eye roll it would cost me another $1. Excuse me but I already paid extra for it and got next to nothing. Recently I ordered door dash delivery after i had surgery and unfortunately they automatically chose this location for me. I knew the order would be wrong simply based on that fact. Yet I ordered it anyway, paid the $1 extra for Nutella and, low and behold, the order came with no Nutella at all. Their fruit is often overripe and the tables are not cleaned. I don't know who is running the place but they are doing a terrible job w quality control. Want better service and a nice meal? Go to the one in Ocean on Rt 35. They always greet you with a smile, the place is immaculate and the food is perfect. read more
