My husband and I stopped by R Bar for dinner last night and had such a great time. It's a really unique and fun spot with such a great vibe, really good music, and delicious food. What a gem this place is filled with locals. They have live music and a cool and cozy atmosphere inside as well as outside. The food and drinks are amazing and the service is spot on. For a person who eats chicken 90% of the time this half chicken was the best chicken I've ever had. Juicy and full of chicken flavor, not from being drowned in a sauce. Cajun carrots unbelievable! You need the pork chop. I always have a great time here and theres usually live music when I go. Service is great and they really do the most to accommodate you. The most recent time I've come, I sat on the back patio for dinner. It was a great vibe for the nice weather. There was live music but it was crowded and I appreciated the outdoor ambiance. A slice of the south up here in New Jersey! We sat in back patio and it was really nice. Like being in New Orleans or Austin or cute parts of Florida. There was nice country/folk music playing (we apparently just missed the live music session) and lots of umbrella covered tables. The drinks are pretty good here and are nicely sized. We got the Tasteful Nudes, Aperol Blitz, Kill-Devil Punch, and Bubbles & Brine. We all enjoyed our drinks - I really liked my Kill-Devil Punch. Food was good as well and kind of runs with the southern theme. The shrimp tacos were seasoned to perfection. The crawfish tacos were good as well (though the shrimp was better). Our friends got the French dip with the au jus in a tea cup! And the other got a burger. I enjoyed it and would recommend sitting outside if you're looking for a cute vibe. Ambiance is great Food is really good. Hubby had the kill devils punch and I had a non alcoholic Guinness. It was so good. Tasted like the real thing. The Caesar salad was excellent. I liked the roasted quinoa on top. Was a little too much dressing for me. But was perfect for my husband I had the shrimp tacos and my husband had the steak tacos. I loved loved my shrimp tacos. Visiting the area for work. Found this place on yelp and I really enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious. It's a New Orleans themed menu and environment. I was there on a Monday night and they had a live band and the place was pretty full. My waitress was very friendly and accommodating. She was attentive, but not obnoxious. Street parking hit or miss. Has different areas of seating a live band was playing but very loud after our day. We sat in another room. We ordered water and some apps. Wow! Stopped in on a Wednesday night and was seated right away near the stage, which had an AWESOME Beatles cover band. I couldn't pass up their bourbon cherry coke slushie and it was as tasty and refreshing as it sounds. For app we shared the Cajun wings, which had a great dry rub and came with buffalo and ranch to dip. I had the pork chop special for dinner. The crab beignets and gumbo were absolutely delicious! So good I forgot to take a pic of the crab beignets. The caviar bump was fun, but the raw shallots under the caviar overpowered the entire bite. When you eat caviar, you want to taste the caviar! The crawfish tacos were just ok. The banana foster bread pudding was amazing! The bar staff were friendly and very attentive! Excellent service! R Bar is one of our favorite spots in Asbury to hang out. Its off the beaten path of Cookman Ave and the boardwalk. Went there last Saturday to see their house band The Ocean Avenue Stompers play in the back patio. Normally they play on Monday nights in the main restaurant. It was a great way to spend a warm weekend afternoon. Band was great! They play New Orleans style jazz, a little funk, and more. We go to R Bar very regularly, mostly for dinner, and it is always great. Last week, we had a larger party there, in the green house upstairs. It was the first time we did a private event there. Put simply, it was great, like f'ing fantastic! Lindsey and Lauren worked with us on the planning and did not miss a beat. We had a wonderful selection of appetizers, a great set of options for the main course, including sliders, baked potatoes and veggies and then beignets for dessert. Throughout, we had an open bar and two bartenders. The service was amazing, the food spectacular and the price good. I would recommend R Bar for any private party. The casual but elegant Louisiana-style food is some of the best I've ever had, in a pleasant and friendly environment! read more

I can not believe i havent come here sooner, as New orleans is my favorite city, and ive spent a lot of time in asbury. first off, the decor is beautiful and the theme carries throughout. theres outdoor seating in the back, which has an intimate garden feel with some colorful artwork thrown in there. live jazz band inside. the dishes/apps are steep in price, but we loved both apps that we shared. first off, the crab beignets are a must get. even in nola, you dont always find these on a menu, so i highly suggest getting them. the cajun wings are small, but juicy. the seasoning is perfect, and it packs a nice punch. i would come back in a heartbeat. read more

What a huge disappointment !!! I went for the Fat Tuesday celebration and was very surprised that there were no specials!! I almost left but decided to stay (I should have left). The shrimp po boy sandwich was not as good as it looked. I had high expectations as it looked wonderful. Absolutely no spice , no taste at all!! The fries were just as tasteless. The small container of a sauce looked promising. I dipped a couple of fries in it, as with the shrimp and fries, very bland/tasteless!! I am glad I did not get a drink as it would have probably been terrible too!! The only redeeming qualities was the festive Mardi Gras decor and the bartender was very nice!!! This place is a joke!!! Stopped in on a Thursday night for date night. We got a seat right away. Hostess was lovely and checked to see if we wanted to be near the bar since the yankee game was on. The decor is very nostalgic of New Orleans. I loved the plates for the appetizers they were adorable. The cocktails were delish. We got the Shutter Up which was sort of like a margarita. Perfect drink for the early days of summer. I got the shrimp po boy - the fries were shoestring and fresh out the frier, the bread on the po boy was a little hard - which was disappointing - but the shrimp was battered nicely. Mint julep too sweet, Apple Crack (very bitter, zero sweetness FOR YOUR HEALTH!), and lastly the champion--bourbon slushy!!! So dainty with a cherry on top. Very delicious and refreshing. Food was good, but unfortunately, not amazing. Cacio e Pepe Deviled Eggs app surmounted the amount of shaved parm even imaginable. Very salty and the egg halves were absolutely hidden. The potato chip crumbles provided a nice texture balance. Would not repeat the order, but glad I tried. Blackened Salmon entree had a perfect crispiness to the skin, but pretty much no seasoning whatsoever. The accompanied cheesy grits, however, were a delight. Licked the plate clean. The food came out incredibly fast despite the packed restaurant, and the drinks were delicious! Menu is a little bit on the pricier side but worth it for a fun night out. Live music too! Came to visit the very different Asbury Park from what I knew it to be as a child. So many new additions and upgrades to the city with R Bar certainly being on of them. We had a great time in what started off as a 'not so busy' bar to a pretty lively place within 30 mins. To help you all in Yelp world, I will just list a few highlights of the night in no particular order.: 1. Molly - awesome server who made recommendations and took great care of us. 2. Headed to R Bar for dinner with live jazz music tonight. The space is absolutely massive - two indoor dining areas plus a bar, a back patio, and upstairs greenroom bar and balcony. The back patio doesn't always have table service, so you can either bring drinks from the bar out there; or go to the wine/beer/cheese shop connected to the restaurant and DIY your own charcuterie board to bring out to the patio. We started with the cornbread Madeleines which, while delicious, were a little underwhelming portion-wise; the jalapeño honey butter was the star. The entrees came out fast - within 20 minutes of our reservation starting. My cauliflower steak with carrots, broccoli and chimichurri sauce was perfectly seasoned and filling; I definitely recommend it! My husband and Dad both got the gumbo; they thought it was very flavorful but that it had too much rice and not enough sausage. 4 stars based on good food and ambience with attentive staff, offset by too-fast service between courses and the unexpected $2 charge for still water (we weren't offered tap).
