Open for less than a month, this new Playa Bowls location is still finding its groove. It's located at the end of a multi-business building complex called "Grove at Montgomery", along Route 206 in Belle Mead. Most of the store fronts are empty, and the entrance sign to the Grove at Montgomery only has Playa Bowls and one other business listed on it. (See photos). Both the outside patio and the inside of Playa Bowls are beautifully designed. The spacious interior has surfboards hanging from the high ceiling, large flat screen TVs showing ocean scenes, wave murals on the walls, and wicker chairs. Everything has an airy, beachy feel, and I momentarily forgot I was in central NJ and not at a restaurant down the shore! Five stars for the breezy relaxed vibe. At the time of my visit, two young women were working and serving 5 customers. The employees were friendly but inexperienced and inefficient. They seemed uncertain about how to make the bowls and never changed their gloves between touching fruit, pulling back their hair, and tapping the order screens. They messed up the order of the couple ahead of me. This caused discussion and delay as both employees stopped preparing food and brainstormed how to resolve that problem. A third employee finally came out from the back office and set things straight and started helping make the bowls as by now the rest of us had been waiting quite a while. I'm rating this Playa Bowls 3.5 stars rounded up to four stars. It has potential to be great once the staff get better training and more experience. read more

Nothing bad to say about any Playa Bowls location I've ever been to. The fruit is always fresh and delicious! I particularly like the Belle Mead location because of all the indoor/outdoor seating, unlike other playa bowls with more city ambiance that are so tiny and crowded. read more

How is this place even a playa bowl , the juicer has been broke for 2 months . Very unacceptable

I think I am just going to end up loving every Playa Bowl ...I mean their logo is a giant pineapple. How cool is that. I used to love froyo. And then the market became saturated. And then also I became an adult and realized the amount of calories from piling on gummy bears and chocolate on my sugar-added dairy product was NOT a health improvement over ice cream... especially served in get-however-much-you-want format. So I am now saying yes to acai pineapple coconut bases. Yes to healthy but toppings like fruit and granola and sometimes nutella. And yes to customization and deliciousness and freshness and fast service... and definitely yes to finding a pocket of warm tropical vibe at anytime of the year. This location is humungo, easy parking (since the complex is still very new). Has a ping pong table also, although you will only get a few rallies in before your food is ready. Get a bowl to share for a snack, or one for yourself as a mini-meal. Seasonal specialties are the best! We got the Harvest with lots of autumn flavors, without the basic extraness that comes with a pumpkin spice latte. read more

Chains are pretty hard to review because there is an expectation from the outset that, as a customer, you will receive predictably mediocre food from a cookie-cutter location. In other words, the bar is much higher for chains to receive a good review from any customer. Why in the world would this place receive a 5-star review then? This Playa Bowls goes well above and beyond those expectations about chains. Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, I visited this location well over a dozen times. Every single time, my order was the same açaí bowl with the same toppings. Every single time, I received my order made perfectly. There was never a single ingredient missing, never a handful of napkins forgotten, never a spoon misplaced. While for most restaurants, those may all be the basic standards of service, it is so hard to see that attention to detail in customer service in a chain. I have never had one complaint about an order for this location. Everyone has suffered from this pandemic in one way or another. If you worked during this strange time as an essential worker, you probably felt this burden even more so. Every day, I went into work and left drained and emotionally exhausted. Every day, I wondered how this year and work could possibly become even more unpredictable. The one thing I could look forward to though, when I went into work, was that my order from this Playa Bowls would be made correctly and promptly. That meant a lot to me and it is my hope that the workers of this Playa Bowls understand that they genuinely made at least one person's day better by going above and beyond expectations, even if it just felt like another work day to them. I compare all other Playa Bowls locations and açaí bowl restaurants to this specific location, and I will honestly admit none have come close to the bar set by this place. TL; DR: If you want your açaí bowl done well and done right, this is the place to go. read more

I door dashed a booster bowl, something I often door dash. I have never been so disappointed in my life with my bowl. I got it in less than 30 minutes so this was not a dasher issue, it was the store. I received a bowl of green soup that should have been a booster bowl with fresh toppings. They clearly did not make it right as it shouldn't have been completed melted like this from the time I ordered it to the time I got it. It will be quite a while before I order from here again unfortunately. read more

I never write reviews but after playabowls this one time... I felt like it would be a crime not to. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a nice girl named Katie and she was EXTREMELY accommodating. Myself, my wife, and both our kids are all vegan and Katie built us all custom bowls since it was our first time at a playa. Playa bowls is a great light option for a meal! The bowls are filling and delicious with fruit that's always fresh and feels in-season! This location is spacious with kind service and lots of parking! Not the fastest service sometimes, but you can order ahead online if you're in a rush! Absolutely awful. Will never revisit this location again. The staff was incredibly rude and way out of place. We were told that there can't be more than one party inside at a time so we were asked to wait outside (in the cold) for our food even though there was another party behind us waiting inside with us (they weren't asked to step outside while WE ordered). We then asked them to make our parties food first so we can come back inside but they insisted and said no and had us wait outside for 20 minutes. They later told us it was because our masks were not on correctly but NEVER once said it to our face. Even though we gave them over $100 dollars worth of business, they were nothing but rude and inconsiderate. This is just the beginning to an awful experience. I'll take my business elsewhere in the future. read more
