I eventually decided on a large acai bowl ($14.99 plus tax) with two simple toppings included, choosing pineapple and crunchy pearls. My order was ready and bagged quickly. However, they gave me the acai by itself packed in a rectangular plastic container and the toppings separately in smaller plastic containers. This is not an acai bowl! It was like they were lazy and couldn't be bothered making an acai bowl (bowl containers?) with the toppings already on top and bowl sealed. For the amount of money charged, I would expect a nicely made acai bowl instead of the DIY. The acai with the two toppings tasted very sweet, which was expected. I've been to other places which specialize in acai bowls and for similar prices or less, I can get a custom made nice looking acai bowl with lots of interesting toppings included, not just 2 ordinary toppings. Look up Playa Bowls, which set the bar on how acai bowls should be made. This place really needs to put forth some effort in making acai bowls nicely for takeout customers. DIY acai with minimal toppings is not acceptable.

I stopped by The Fresh Monkee at the Webster Square Plaza in Worcester recently. I arrived here around 6:40 pm and I tried to order my smoothie on the Toast app (I have rewards points), but it kept crashing. I believe there is a cutoff time to place orders before closing time. I eventually went inside and had to order in person since I couldn't place an online order. Upon request, the staff entered my phone number and I got rewards points for my visit. I ordered the Mint Oreo ($10.25 plus tax), which was made to order and ready in about 8 minutes. The place also had several other customers ordering their smoothies before closing time. The place has an inviting setting with large soft armchairs & sofas & low tables in the front area and table seating along the wall across from the counter. I enjoyed my snack (24 oz) protein shake which had a blend of milk, vanilla protein, mint extract, marshmallows, Nutella, sugar-free chocolate cookie, sugar-free chocolate drizzle, topped with chocolate cookie crumbles. This creamy protein shake was not too thick with slightly sweet creamy flavors overall. I enjoyed this shake before heading to dinner in Worcester. I would return here again or at another Fresh Monkee location for another protein shake. The snack size shake was the right size.

Playa Bowls has set the bar on what a great acai & pitaya bowl should be and rate my experiences at other bowl & smoothie places based off Playa Bowls. My favorite bowls are the Pura Vida Acai Bowl, Tropical Acai Bowl and Electric Mermaid Pitaya Bowl. Their steel cut oatmeal bowls topped with fresh fruit & nuts is also a great breakfast treat. My coworkers and boss order regularly from the Playa Bowls in Concord NH. I stopped in at the Framingham location recently. Upon entering the store, the older person at the register kept asking me if I had a pickup order, but I kept saying I needed to place an order. After short back and forth, I was finally able to place my order. I ordered the Coco Berry Bowl ($12 plus tax) in person and scanned my Playa Bowls app for points. The Playa Bowls app charges a service fee for online ordering, which is a pet peeve. Out of principle, I order in person here. I watched my bowl being made to order shortly after placing my order and it was bagged and ready within 7 minutes. There is table seating adjacent to the long counter. The Coco Berry Bowl was very sweet, comprised of raw coconut, banana, coconut milk base topped with granola, blueberries, strawberries, and honey. This cold sweet coconut bowl I ordered was a pretty good treat, though the Pura Vida Acai Bowl is still my favorite at Playa Bowls.
