We were greeted right when we walked in and the staff was patient as we looked over the large menu. Plenty of seating inside and they have a nice outdoor patio for when the weather gets better. The blueberry muffin was the best I have ever eaten! The slightest hint of sweetness made all the difference! You could taste how fresh all the ingredients were! My first visit here was so perfect, I could not wait to go back. My second one was a bit less exciting. The coffee and food are absolutely incredible. The service is quick and friendly. The restaurant is super clean. If I could go back in time, the only thing I would do differently would be to skip the protein smoothie. The description sounded very flavorful and delicious, but the reality was muted and boring. It had chunks of ice in it and tasted more of stevia than of banana, and I could not taste the espresso even a little bit, even though I saw him put it in there. I am wondering if the flavor of the vanilla protein powder took over? I could taste a watered down flavor of almond, vanilla, and something like stevia or monkfruit, but I could not taste banana, coffee, or cacao nibs. There was zero richness for something containing both banana and almond butter. Zero. That said, I will definitely go back again and again and again for their other items. I just will not be ordering the protein smoothie again as I mourn the $13 I spent on it. read more

Always a great place to grab a quick sweet treat and coffee! We went here to warm up and get some work done, the lattes were great and I loved the Halloween decorations! Classy, cute and very on theme! The location is fabulous (right on the corner) and they have cute outdoor seating and bar seating by the window. I will say parking is a little annoying because you have to park in the large parking lot in the back and then walk to the coffee shop rather than having their own parking lot. I've been to Java Nation so many times, I would like to say maybe around 20 times to all their Maryland locations. I want to give them more stars, especially since I frequent them so often. The food is decent, for what you get a would say it is overpriced. The pastries however are excellent, and the coffee is drinkable. The Gaithersburg location, I would say has the best ambiance out of all of them, however, the outlets are weirdly placed. The service is hit or miss, you either get a really friendly bar manager, or someone who would careless if they are there or not. I think if the service was better and a little more mature, I would give it an extra star, but the food, prices, and decent ambiance knock it down to 3 for me. Also the app, while I love loyalty programs, the benefits expire and if you don't frequent on a weekly basis, make no difference whether you are logging it in or not. read more

Java Nation is a nice spot to grab a quick bite to eat. The two breakfast items my husband and I chose were quite good. He had the Ham and Cheese Omelet, and I chose the Mushroom and Goat Omelet. The entire meal was light and fulfilling both in flavor and portion size. The salad was fresh, and the breakfast potatoes were hot, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. I did find that the Vanilla Cappuccino was rather strong, so I mentioned it to one of the staff, and they happily adjusted the drink to my liking. Came here for a bagel and cream cheese and a coffee this morning. When I "Yelped" bagel, this place appeared on the list and I haven't been here before. It's a nice, well-lit, comfortable spot with pleasant and not-too-loud music (techno right now) playing from above. It's not very busy right now - clearly a nice place to hang with a coffee. They offer plain and everything bagels. And they offer plain cream cheese. Essentially, this isn't a bagel place. The everything bagel I had was "fine," likely packaged. Could have been toasted a bit more. The cream cheese is very soft and light - I liked it. The coffee came in a nice mug. The coffee was smooth and good. The folks here were friendly this morning and I felt welcomed. I don't know what to do about scoring, because this isn't a bagel place (and it doesn't advertise itself as one). I don't want to criticize the place because I ordered something that isn't their core menu. If you're looking for a bagel, there are other bagel places in the area that make them on site and have more variety. Here, the bagel and cream cheese is $5.50 and the coffee was $4.25. I've been to this Java Nation before, but it's been about 4 years. I like to visit this location the menu is largeand the foodis good. The simple ambiance is great and the friendly atmosphere is a win. I loved the coffee. The service was warm and quick. in all fairness, it was a slower shift on Friday night so please count for that. The food was honestly really good. The iced coffee? Not so much. We ordered 2 iced vanilla coffee's with oat milk and the cashier rung it up exactly as that. When we got our coffee, there was absolutely no vanilla taste to it at all. When i went back up to let them know there's no vanilla in it, the cashier made me pay to add vanilla to my drink AGAIN even though i had already paid for it the first time and even after that, it still tasted horrible. Girls branch!!!! Came to have lunch with a good friend of mine. This was her first time coming here so I had to show her how good this place is. We didn't know what to choose because they have so many options, but we ended up choosing 2 steak and eggs which comes with potatoes on the side and the margarita flights which include the classic margarita, the passionfruit, spicy watermelon and a sangria, which were all delicious!!!!! We couldn't stop talking about how good and tasteful the food was cooked! We asked for the steak to be medium well, the fired eggs over easy and it was so so good. Honestly, just go here for coffee, the drinks were a disappointment. My friend and I were in Kentlands from a Yelp event and decided to wander around Main street. I've always wanted to try Java Nation, but it was way to late to have coffee/caffeine so we decided to get a drink instead. Every drink I ordered they did not have. She said they're not a bar, so they don't have many of the ingredients. Um, okay then why do you have extensive bar menu? I eventually had to settle for a Spicy watermelon margarita. Thankfully it wasn't too spicy for my liking. My friend got the Cherryshed which was decent at best. I recently visited Java Nation in Kentlands again and enjoyed their Chicken Avocado dish paired with coffee. The flavors were delightful, and the experience did not disappoint. The prices were reasonable, and while the place was very busy, it offered the option to dine indoors or outside. I got the French toast classic $13.50, empanadas Fritas chicken $11, and carrot cake $7.50. - The French toast was my favorite item. It was genuinely good, but not good enough to warrant a $6.75 price per French toast slice. Also you don't get any sides with the French toast, just the French toast for that $13.50 price tag. - The chicken empanadas were decent, and the sauce made them bet,ter but $5.50 per empanada is ridiculous based on the limited portion you receive. - The carrot cake was alright, but I was not a fan of the $7.50 price tag for a small carrot Bundt cake, but that's what you get with these overpriced items. I like Java Nation, but they MUST do a better job when serving salad!! I go here weekly, for some reason, there are ALWAYS salad greens that have rotted !! YUCK. I know we have all colour of lettuce these days, but I'd really prefer to go back to using just Romaine, that way it's super easy for the kitchen to see when pieces are black & rotten. I looked over the sides and substituting for spinach was eight dollars extra. I'm not gonna spend $27 on a turkey BLT with a scoop of spinach. On another occasion, I ordered two different smoothies. While they were making it, I noticed that when they were finished with one, they poured it in the cup. When they finished the second one, and after pouring it, there wasn't enough to fill the cup. So, they used the rest of the first smoothie to top off the 2nd cup, which was a different smoothie. Almost 30 dollars for two smoothies. Not going back. read more

It seems like a lot of places in this area have adopted this model. I did really enjoy my goat cheese and mushroom omelette. It was a decent size and full of toppings. The side of potatoes ordered extra crispy were just regular. I also went with a side salad as my other side. It was quite plain but the greens were fresh. We split an order of the banana and granola pancakes. These were my favorite things I had from here. They were cooked perfectly. The yogurt cream on top was tangy but I didn't mind it. My biggest gripe about this place was the coffee. You pay for a cup and no free refills for dine in. But then the coffee was soooooo bitter. This from a place that roasts and does their own beans. My experience was not the best. The staff taking the orders at the front seem to always be in a rush. They are not mean or anything but if there's a line they are not the nicest. The coffee and the food are generally good but the last time I was there I ordered pupusas for the first time and they not only took forever to come out (I was later explained that they usually take between to 15-20 minutes to come out ) they were also undercooked. I think they may be frozen and that is why they came out toasted on the outside but raw on the inside. Per the bite I took, I could tell the filling was under seasoned. Definitely not the best Latin American item in their menu. Things I Didn't Love: We asked for a Medium-done steak and got well-done. The frites were oily and soggy. I tasted zero squash in my latte. Things I Liked: The pancakes were fluffy and the steak was well-marinated with a nice compote butter on top. They've got a full alcohol menu, so I guess that's also a plus. I've been to the Kensington location and was underwhelmed by their service but I truly enjoyed having a belated birthday lunch yesterday with my aunt. I decided to try this place because I had heard that it was very good and I'm always in the mood for very good. The location itself is right on the corner which is very convenient and it looked very clean and well lit inside. The staff I interacted with picking up my drink order was very friendly and told me where to pick up my food as I placed a to-go order for 9:50 a.m which included two drinks. The drinks themselves were cold to the touch on arrival and we got there right at 9:50 a.m. so it begs the question, how long ago had these been made and been sitting to the side? If they were made fresh within the specified time they should have at least been warm. These were definitely cold for both my chai tea and my girlfriend's hot chocolate. I understand when you do to go orders you may get food that is either very hot if you show up on time or sometimes a little lukewarm if you took your time getting to the location. This was definitely not the case as everything I picked up was undeniably cold. This should not be the case, especially when I paid $35 for this food. It's hugely disappointing to say the least, it almost feels like you should just order as soon as you get there to ensure your food is fresh, otherwise you end up with food that is made too early to your specified time and you end up having to reheat and it takes away from the overall quality, original feel of the food. Portion sizes leave something to be desired as my French toast for two pieces was literally about a $1.70 a bite, that's a tough sell even for so-called Gourmet French toast. The oatmeal for a bowl was $8.50 and it was not that big of a bowl, again portion sizes definitely leave something to be desired and it had zero flavor I ended up having to doctor it up when I got home. Even the fruit with sprinkle of cinnamon could not justify this watery oatmeal. The chai tea was decent but nothing to write home about, all in all there are better options out there and this place charges the premium just to say it is a posh Cafe. It's clear they put more into the branding then the actual food and experience. This place was a swing and a miss for me and if I had the chance to do it all over again I would have just went somewhere else. This place is expensive and I feel overcharges for things that should be moderately priced due to the location and the willingness of its patrons to support. As someone who has sampled many great places that often exceed expectations this was as I said hugely disappointing not just for the price but the fact that the price did not justify for the quality that you receive. I could have just made my own coffee at home and let it sit out and get cold if I wanted cold coffee or tea. The whole purpose of the visit was I wanted exceptional breakfast and I heard that this place was top-notch, however it seems the bar wasn't set very high for that notch. Maybe with time things will improve, I don't know that I will return to give it another try for the amount they charge you. They also have no combos so everything is à la carte. You're looking at $4.50 for two pieces of bacon so by the time you're done making your own combo you're at anywhere between 30 and $50. Is definitely a tough sell in a market that is saturated with good quality food and best bang for your buck. Unfortunately a buck won't get you anything here so just know what you're getting yourself into and be prepared to pay a premium for a cool logo and mediocre food. There was also no butter included but it did come with whipped cream syrup and berry compote which I paid extra for. read more
