I look forward to the Nitro coffee each week and then the opportunity to choose off of the extensive fruit and vegetable bowl combinations. The Açaí bowls are the most popular, but I personally love the oatmeal bowls. Today I tried the Banana Bowl base and was so happy with the banana-blueberry-coconut topping combination. Playa Bowls has been a welcome addition to the newly remodeled and rebranded Cabin John Village. We desperately needed a fast healthy food option in that location. There are days when I simply crave an açai bowl, and I no longer have to drive to Georgetown or Vienna. I really like the taste and consistency of the bowls, and enjoy the smoothies too. I tried to give Playa a chance, trying different things on their menu, but I just don't get the pricing. The oatmeal I bought had blueberries and strawberries but other than that, nothing special. I really don't understand why it cost $9 for that. I kept going, thinking they'd have a special twist to the menu items. The only twist I found was how surprisingly simple everything is. It's a nice place aesthetically, and the service is good, but that's all it has going for it. I really wish the food and drinks were worth the high price, but I can't recommend this business at all. Workers don't take their job seriously. They spend more time gossiping and loudly laughing with eachother across the shop rather than efficiently making bowls for their customers. It gets rather annoying. read more

I STRONGLY recommend coming to this establishment. The menu was a little overwhelming at first glance but the workers were very helpful. The girl at the register explained all the bases and toppings to me and I was very pleased with my bowl! I was very excited when playa bowls was opening a location in cabin john as my daughter and I would often drive out to the college park or mosaic locations for bowls and now there's a store close to me! However, although the decor is very nice and inviting, I cannot say the same about some of the staff members. One of the managers (a girl with long straight hair) did not give off the friendly and accommodating attitude I was expecting. Her face had a frown glued to it as she rung up my order. My daughter and I stayed to eat our bowls in the store and she still didn't seem too helpful to her co-workers with the rush going on. She would sigh or shrug a lot. Having someone not seem to want to make my order at all makes me feel like a burden. I do not have much to complain about the actual food. My bowl was good and tastes like the college park locations. I just wish that I had gotten a more friendly atmosphere to match. Next time I come, I will be ordering online for TO-GO! read more

Some days you get a great bowl, and other days you don't. There is a lack of consistency between staff members in how they prepare the bowls which seems to reflect either poor training or no standardization in how these bowls are prepared. I had a bowl last week that was a coconut slushie which mostly tasted like ice. Today, the bowl I was given was almost half the size of my previous bowls and not at all as pictured above in advertising (see below). We've had cold oatmeal that was just "freshly prepared." My smoothie this week was the consistency of the coconut milk they use and the teen who made it then took half of the contents that were left in the blender to the back (do they get to keep the left overs or something?). And it always takes about 15 minutes for a bowl to be put together even if you are the only one in the shop and there's 4 teens working. I keep coming back to get one of the great bowls, but I am often disappointed. read more

Great food, but out of the 4 girls working, only one was properly wearing a mask. Only covering your mouth & not covering your nose, is basically like not wearing a mask at all. I nicely reminded one to cover her nose & she did, but the others did not & within 2 mins, her nose was uncovered again. So now I'm making my kid throw her bowl away. read more

The bowls here are GREAT! But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find a way to secure the bags, the bags should be taped or stapled shut so that when people order from uber eats or doordash the food is secure. Not so spectacular. The place looks nice but the smoothies were not worth the price paid. I tried ordering a smoothie without milk my first visit and substituted ice/water instead of the milk options. It wasn't great. I decided to give it a second try and see if they could add one of their juice options instead of water, but the girl at the register said they don't do that. I wasn't willing to pay another 18$ for two watered down smoothies so I left. I suggest adding an option to add juice to the smoothie instead of just milk options or water. Also, it is way overpriced... I went and got some bags of frozen/fresh fruits from the giant across the street and made a far better smoothie for much cheaper. I really would love to see this business flourish as I've been a resident of this area for over 15 years and I've seen other smoothie joints come and go. Hopefully you guys take into consideration the feedback in this review and have some longevity in this neighborhood! read more

Full disclosure- I am Playa Bowls BEST customer and go pretty much every day. I love the people who work there - they are always warm in their welcome and go out of their way to deliver a consistent experience. I get a custom bowl for me and my husband and they get it right every single time. My only wish is that there was one closer to my house because I have to drive 20 minutes to get there! (I guess that says a lot). My kids also love getting acai bowls and have never had a bad experience. Yummy tip: I add Siggi's triple cream vanilla yogurt on top and sometimes add pepitas and pistachios to make it a bit more hearty of a meal. read more

About a month ago my friend recommended this place because of its Açaí bowls. She said it was to die for and so worth going to try. Today a month later I decided to make the trip with my sister and try it. I LOVED everything, the whole aesthetic and it's welcoming vibe was great. Given the circumstances with COVID-19 and it's stay at home order it was nice to see such big smiles and warm welcoming voices. We went, saw the large variety of options starting from Açaí bowls, smoothies and my favorite the Pitaya bowls. I saw an image which was the "Electric Mermaid" under the Pitaya bowls which looked like paradise in a bowl. I'm sure to me it felt like a little escape being home and not able to travel anywhere. The flavor was great, the portion was amazing and the price was decent for what you get. Before I left I saw a mini sign that said " if you have the time, write us a review. I was very excited to try to this location as I am a big fan of playa bowls however I was very disappointed. First my smoothie was made in the wrong size, then I asked to make sure there was extra peanut butter in which the employee said yes, however I get this smoothie often at other locations and there was definitely not extra peanut butter. In addition there was a young girl working making the bowls that appeared to be around eight years old with long hair that was not tied and her hair kept touching customers bowls that she was making.
