The acai base is smooth and cool without being icy, and the fruit toppings taste fresh. When I ordered, it took a little bit of time for my acai bowl to be ready, but I got it within ~10 minutes. The taste is very good, but it's a bit pricy (although comparable in cost to the other acai bowl places around here). Playa bowls has always been a bit more on the pricey side, so I could never really justify the price. On the occasion that I grab some sort of Açaí bowl, this is a fine place to get it. If you download their app, you usually get a discount which makes the bowl a lot cheaper. The atmosphere inside is cute, very beachy and it is evident to me that there is quite a bit of seating where you can sit down and do work, as I saw many people doing so. These bowls have a lot of flavor, and it tastes great. Service is wonderful and the people that work there are really nice. The only thing that makes it lose a star is the price. I've had multiple unsatisfactory experiences with this particular location. I've been to many, many of them in different locations with satisfactory results. This one isn't the friendliest and are unyielding in making substitutions for things that cost the same, when I've made these same substitutions with no issues at all other locations. Will never go back. They don't seem to care about making their customers happy. read more

Came in on a very hot weekend for a refreshing smoothie bowl with some family. The location was much more spacious than I had expected, and it was nice to see that it wasn't too crowded. There were a few people in line ahead of us, which was fine since we needed time to decide on our orders. After about 5 minutes, we were ready to order. The employee behind the register was friendly. She took some time to get our orders together; I assumed she was new and trying her best. I went for my usual custom bowl, and my family members all ordered some form of pre-made menu combinations. After we placed our orders, we waited for around 10 minutes. All of us minus one in our group had gotten our orders. I didn't want to ask about the last one in case they still needed time. However, I ended up asking after waiting an extra 6 minutes. They had actually forgotten to make it, so it was good that I reminded them. In terms of my bowl, the quality was solid. It wasn't the best or the worst Playa I've had. Consistency was great, topping portions were decent. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their bowls. Overall, I liked this location. Service was a bit slow, but quality and the location were good. I'd pay a visit to this location if I was in the area again. read more

As a melting human in the Princeton summer heat, I find myself constantly trying to find some sort of food that will help cool me down. Luckily Playa Bowls is not too far away from where I live. This summer, I've also been really trying to eat healthier, and Playa Bowls is a perfect way for me to simultaneously cool down and cut down on calories. The rewards program at Playa also is perfect since I love going so much. I usually order the power bowl when I go. The granola is so perfect as it is very crunchy and clumpy - just like how I like it. The peanut butter is very smooth and liquidy so it mixes in with the bowl quite well. The acai is delicious as well, and is so naturally sweet that it almost tastes like a chocolate bar. I like how the protein powder is not very prevalent either, so it still tastes excellent but packs in nice macros after a workout. I also ordered the dolce smoothie before once, but I thought it was absolutely terrible. It tasted like a smoothie that wasn't even meant to taste good but solely healthy. I guess I should have checked the ingredients list, but it straight up was not very good. I would suggest that you do not order it if you go to Playa. However, the power bowl is so delicious that I am still very happy to give Playa a 4 stars. read more

The food is great and their special bowls are always good. They are also great with special orders. But everything is definitely on the pricier side, although signing up for their rewards program makes things a lot less pricey. As for the ambience, there are some booths and a bar nothing amazing but OK and there's no lack of seating. read more

Opening in Palmer Square earlier this month, Playa Bowls serves acai bowls and other smoothie bowls, as well as oatmeal and smoothies. Service is very friendly, and the staff was very nice about letting us substitute toppings. I think they're definitely the best of the bowl options in downtown Princeton: Tico's base is icey and Frutta's tastes like banana, but Playa's smooth acai base is just acai (with water and sweetener). I think Playa also has the largest portions -- I couldn't finish my bowl in one sitting. I also like that they let you split a bowl between two different bases, in case you want to try more than one. Bowls are in the ~$10 range, which is very standard for these things. Of the three bases I tried, I liked the not-too-sweet pitaya the most (though it doesn't taste like dragon fruit). The acai base is noticeably sweeter but definitely has an acai flavor, and the green base has a thinner consistency. I don't recommend getting mango or pineapple as a topping, as mine was underripe: the other fruits are probably a better bet. read more

It's amazing the different variety of drinks, smoothies and bowls they have. I wanted a drink but the ice machine wasn't making ice, so i went for a smoothie, called the Aloha, which came highly recommended by the wonderful girls working there. Because it was a smoothie it comes with frozen fruit so ice was not a problem. Very refreshing. No indoor seating but that's only because if CoVID-19 otherwise they have a nice seating area. There are two 2 person tables outside for outdoor seating and a bench by the door. I recommend you try it out ! read more

I am a regular customer in fact. So first of all, their quality is good, but they really need to work in the variety. Just take a look at the menu you'll find there's basically repetitive combinations of fruits and flavors for every base. Since Açaí bowl is already a middle-class invention, I won't comment on the price. But what horrifies me is that they are open for indoor dining, and NO STAFF IS WEARING MASK. They are taking order, making the bowls, talking to the customers and each other, WITHOUT MASKS. I don't care about if they are all vaccinated, as we probably are all aware of, tons of vaccinated ppl still carry and spread the virus. This is ridiculous for a place that promotes healthy and clean food. To be precise, I visited on a Sunday, and the store was PACKED. It's not like it was an empty place and the staff members were laid back. Anyway, don't think I can tolerate this. read more

When we asked they said that the app wasn't right and it wasn't ready. After an hour of patiently waiting the girls are making jokes together, taking breaks to check their phones, and making conversation with customers instead of making our bowls we've been waiting over an hour for. Usually service here is good, but the staff on 2/19 was incredibly lazy and not up to standard for playa bowls. My online order was not ready until almost 40 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. After waiting, the food itself was only about 70% of what is usually provided here. The bowl was under filled and there was not much topping it. The employees moved slow and were spending more time talking to each other than making orders despite many people waiting for their food. Disappointing considering this used to be one of my favorite spots in princeton. read more

Awful. I came here to try this place out and it was awful. The mango was rotten and mushy, the banana was hardly cut, base was icy. And for almost $30 it was not worth it at all. The store was empty and we still waited 15 minutes for 2 bowls that looked completely rushed. No one was moving with any purpose, it was frustrating. Ordered online, I bought one smoothie and one bowl. Got there a bit early prior to the pickup time and they said they were getting my order. I was waiting trying to be patient but about 25 minutes went by of waiting at the table closest to the register. I asked again if it was ready and they said "oh it's been ready" after I had been obviously waiting right in front of them watching them all on their phones. I said have a good day to one of the employees when they gave me my order, she just stared back at me and looked at me like I was bothering her. WOW I WAS WAITING FOR THIS LOCATION FOR WEEKS! after relocating from Philly, there were not many açaí bowl places around me in central jersey and when I heard we were getting a playa I was so HYPEEE! When I got there, it did not disappoint! I ordered a half açaí and half pitaya bowl with what I believe was called electric mermaid toppings of mango, kiwi, pineapple, coconut, honey and granola! The bowl was fresh and did not have the frozen slushy consistency that some places do! Loved that! I also ordered a green smoothie which was smooth and thick but still v drinkable! It was delicious! I came in and ordered at 1:06 pm and got the acai bowl at 2:48pm. It should not have to take over an hour and a half to get 4 acai bowls. I understand that the girls who were working were understaff because 2 called in sick. Service was okay, they were nice about it but I asked 4 times for a time when my food was going to be done and they said they would look but never put effort into checking at our order. I am disappointed but the environment was good because playa bowls is always colorful and clean. But I am upset having to wait almost 2 hours for a few acai bowls.
