Met up with a friend to hang out and we originally went to another cafe and noticed the cafe was only pastries. So we decided to pivot and come to Maman and thank God we did. However I can't live on vibes alone and the food was truly a mixed bag. This being my first time we ordered 4 pastries, 1 savory quiche , a coffee and a seasonal spritzer. Easily $50. I won't ever do that again. The sweets were good. The tea cake was delicious and the slice of citrus cake was really really good. My wife liked her coffee. The $10 quiche was horrible. I truly believed they used the fake eggs you get at a hotel breakfast buffet. The $10 spritzer was also a rip off. If I'd noticed the price beforehand I wouldn't have gotten it. I noticed the Coffee bags in the corner which was called Merci which I learned was an exclusive Maman medium blend roasted by Methodical Coffee from Greenville SC. The blueberry lavender crumb cake was heavenly. The subtly aroma and flavor of lavender while tasting a piece of the cake makes it fragrant and flavorful The pistachio croissant filled with pistachio cream was a smooth creamy treat with the hot coffee Cheerful bright and buzzing ambience with quick service . It's a huge dining area allowing for a crowd to dine in . There is a small outdoor section as well. The line moved quick for a weekend , they serve warm breakfast sandwiches too. I've been to Maman in both New York in DC and was so excited to see that they have opened up a Princeton location. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood however they could be better and I felt a bit letdown compared to the other locations. I have had. I had the avocado tartine with scrambled eggs, which was tasty especially with the added chili pepper flakes and salt. It was really difficult to get the chili pepper and the salt onto the actual dish given that it was just sprinkled on the serving platter. I had a vanilla iced latte, which was very yummy. They have an assortment of pastries and sweet treats which all look delicious but I did not try this time. The reason I felt let down was the service. We came in at 7:51 AM and they let us know that the kitchen would not open until eight so they only allowed us to order coffees at first. This is totally fine however someone came in a minute after us and was able to order food. Additionally, the man that took our order was not very friendly and came off a bit abrasive. No better way to do this on a beautiful October morning, than getting a patisserie. This place came recommended by someone, who was raving about their croissants and baked goods. The interior and atmosphere is beautiful with its rustic fairy whimsical nature, and delicate porcelain tea party vibes. The case of pastries looked amazing with a variety of layered pastries, cookies, and breads. The price range is from $4.5 upwards of $7 for their baked goods, and upwards of $15 for their breakfast foods. The service is order at the counter, take a number, and a server will bring it to you - or you can order to go from the counter as well. I gravitated towards a pumpkin pie croissant cube; you could see the crispy flaky layers, and carnalized spices and sugars. I took my pastry outside to eat, and as much as I wanted to love it - I was slightly underwhelmed by the quality. The pastry overall was hard and slightly chewy - not the crisp or freshness you'd typically get from something that might have been baked that morning. It was pretty dry to say the least, even though the pumpkin pie filling should have compensated for it. I went for breakfast and I was two months pregnant. I ordered an omelet with some greens, and while I was eating, I heard a loud crunching sound in my mouth. I took the greens out and found a large piece of broken glass that had chipped one of my teeth. When we asked to see the owner, the chef came out and didn't acknowledge anything. He just took the glass and went back into the kitchen without saying a word. We called the health department, and they came to the restaurant. I ordered the chicken sandwich on a baguette. I order without aioli and with balsamic. The sandwich was delivered with aioli on the side, no big deal but when I went up to the counter to get balsamic several people just looked at me and continued to work. Once I got my balsamic I was ready to enjoy. The sandwich was great. Chicken was fresh and not rubbery as it can often be at places. The bread was the best part! I went to Maman for the first time on a Thursday morning for breakfast. There's some street parking available but we parked at the garage down the street. When we got there, there were a few people already there but it wasn't too busy and there was plenty of space of us to choose a table. It was a really trendy place with lots of greenery and good lighting- perfect for Instagram pics! We ordered at the front we got the mama's breakfast sandwich, papa's breakfast bowl, a small hot chocolate and a small maple french toast latte. I really liked that there was a seasonal menu with fall flavors. A con here was it was a tad pricey it ended up being close to $50. Once we sat down, we got our drinks really fast. We were initially told that we had to get our own utensils but a server came and gave us our utensils and water. All of our food was delicious. Everything came out hot and fresh and we really enjoyed the food and drinks. We couldn't resist picking up a pastry for the ride home. I got the apple cinnamon swiss croissant which I ate later in the day and it was still soft and fresh. I'm surprised the reviews are dragging this cafe! I must have been lucky because I had a great experience. I only had a cappuccino, but couldn't have asked for a more straightforward experience. Location is great with it being in Palmer Square, but not in major foot traffic either so you have too many folks coming in and out. The place is beautiful and has a pretty classy and upscale feeling to it. The plates and furniture really add to the fancy vibe. The staff was incredibly friendly with a cheek to cheek smile and contagious positive tone in their voice. The cappuccino was good with beautiful milk art on it, but I wouldn't say it's the best cappuccino I've had. It definitely had a kick to me tho so I felt it for sure.
