Food is decent. But they don't gut the shrimp. Extra flavor I guess.. I was overcharged.. and by that I mean like double the original cost. Server still looked at me with a dirty look when I tipped her 3.00 now that I remember. I didn't notice I was overcharged until later when my gorgeous blonde wifey mentioned it in the car. At that point I was too full to drive back and kick some ass. They have a kid fresh off the boat from Mexico or Guatemala making the food... he was complaining too. This restaurant was recommended to me by my coworker and even though it is out of the way for me (35 min drive), I decided to try. The food is AMAZING and the portions are very generous. My favorite was seafood soup which was thick and enough to feed four people. Marinated shrimp is their specialty and is delicious as is whole grilled red snapper. My wife also enjoyed couple of Mojitos which were flavorful and not too sweet. Highly recommend for high quality Mexican cuisine and will definitely visit again! read more

Ordered from Playas Bar and Grill today, carry out only given the times, and it was delicious!! We had the huachinango (red snapper) a la diabla and it was delicious, large portion as well. We also had the shrimp and queso empanadas, I've had these at other places but the ones at Playas are the best ones I've had to date. Lastly we had the ceviche mixto (fish and shrimp), you could never go wrong with this, great for an appetizer or meal! The brief interaction we had was also pleasant. Second time in this place our first time food was tasty and service was very good, our Second visit was sucks... Food wasn't good my shrimp and octopus cocktail was flavorless Octopus was like chewing a rubber band, Shrimp koras way way to salty, camarones momias overcooked bacon was toasted black, Virgin Drinks way overpriced. Our food comes all at different times like 10 15 min apart from one to another so we where just looking each other food and eats at different times. and The WORST Part apparently since this place has another New owner they starting to CHARGE you the 15% gratuity on you bill before you even start ordering your food and they charge you the GRATUITY FEE after your total and the tax amount to INFLATE the amount of the tip. I totally understand when you have a party of 5+ persons you have to do this but we were only a party 3 WTH... So just be careful and check your bill very well because they charge me twice for the gratuity and when when you sign your final bill there is an "ADDITIONAL TIP" lin They going to rip you off, just go somewhere else instead. read more

Decided to chk it out after seeing an ad on FB advertising tacos de barbacoa w/ consome. I followed up w/ them and they assured they had it every day n all day got there to say that they didn't have any. Decided to order something else n waited one hr for my simple taco order while everyone else that got there after me got their food before me. Waitresses are not helpful at all. I don't ever leave reviews and this review has nothing to do with their food. The food is good. They never answer their phones. I've had to call about 10 times until I get an answer. I even once had to contact their Melrose Park location to ask if the Addison one closed. After that call they answered on the first try; the restaurant was empty yet they claimed they were extremely busy. This has happened way before Covid too. This is not a Covid issue. Second time I ordered food here . Getting to their menue on line is like trying to find The Arch of the Covenant. If you get that far, trying to get through on the phone is near impossible. Now you have looked at the dinners and prices . Some dinners they dont have (virus) I suppose. Price ??? Forget about it. Prices on the menue mean nothing . The service was beyond terrible. Waitresses were rude and inattentive. After it was brought to their attention that they had made mistakes, they insisted they were right. The music was way too loud and disruptive to the meal and the staff. It was hard to communicate. Food took a very long time and one person in the party waited 10 additional minutes before his entree arrived (we had to ask about the status). Another person in the party did not get half of his order (it was on the final bill and we had to request to get it removed). Not once did they come around to check on the table. We were lacking chips and salsas even after asking for more. There was an automatic 15% gratuity added to my bill and it was only a party of 5. The only good thing about this place were the langostinos. I would recommend ordering to go to avoid aggravations and a disruptive environment. read more

Gave this place a try 2 diff times. The 1st time all went well, but the 2nd time i ordered the tostadas and there was a hair on it. I told the girl she took my plate, apologized but then added " but idk how that happened they all have hair nets on". To top it off i didnt even get the tostadas discounted or atleast off my receipt and what made it worse is when i went up to pay i could clearly see that no one back there had hair nets on. Recently visited their new location in Addison. We were very pleased by the young waitress' service. We ordered a delicious shrimp tostada and the large seafood cocktail which was missing some heat, to our liking, but overall was pleasantly satisfying. We would give it a 5 star review but the only reason we don't it's because the aguas frescas aren't 100% natural; you can actually taste the bitterness of the artificial flavoring which lingers while eating. That was a huge disappointment, as the flavors are diverse but the taste is not what one would expect from a refreshing drink. It actually alters the taste buds and one can't savor the food properly. My suggestion is MAKE THE AGUAS FRESCAS FROM SCRATCH. I ordered pineapple and my companion ordered tamarind; neither was good. Other that the bad drinks, service was phenomenal and food was as delicious as we expected. We will definitely go back. As a customer, we enjoy and very much appreciate the welcoming and cheerful staff. I hope the owners take into consideration my advice on the aguas frescas though. read more

First off, no alcohol is served. People want a beer with their shrimp. Food didn't have any flavor, in particular I had the habanero shrimp plate. Not spicy at all even though I was given a warning on how spicy it was. Place always empty. The shrimp tasted like fridge. The ceviche appetizer was warm and dry. Service was good at least.
