I visited a franchise last year in Reading and was excited that a new franchise was opening in Allentown on Lehigh street ( where Tilted Kilt was). So far I have been to this restaurant two times and have had great experiences. The last experience Manny was my waiter for lunch. Everyone was very attentive. Salsa and chips arrived almost immediately and were excellent. Manny took my drink order and the menu was touchless using a smart phone. I had a beef hard taco, chicken burrito, and rice. Reasonably priced. The food arrived hot and timely. Manny also checked on me a few times and got a refill right when I finished my first drink. I ordered fried ice cream for dessert and it was HUGE. Overall, Plaza Azteca isn't bad. Eat-in atmosphere and service weren't terrible. Portions and selection are good as well. Interestingly, food borders on tasteless. I've had fajitas here twice. Little to no seasoning. Everything appears and tastes fresh, just flat as a pancake. In my two takeout experiences I've had, the goofed up my order once. This is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to! The staff is extremely friendly and very accommodating to my personal food restrictions. This was my first time at this location and signed up for the free rewards program. Signing up allowed me to get a 10 cent mini margarita! Our server even asked if I would like it frozen. This place is the real deal! I thought don juans was the go to place for Mexican food in the Lehigh valley, but boy was I wrong! Right from the start, my little lady and I were greeted with a big old bowl of chips and salsa. The salsa was perfect with a little kick. Our waiter, was excellent. He treated my wife and I like we were a king and queen. He constantly ensured that our drinks were always full, chips and salsa were never ending, and gave timely updates on the status of or order. The wife orders a classic frozen margarita. They made it a little on the strong end which she didn't mind and neither did I ;) Now, getting to the good part, the main course. We ordered the classic sizzler chicken fajita plate for one and a number 5 combo ( shredded beef burrito, beef and cheese tostada, chicken quesadilla, and beef taco). Let me tell you, no one else in the valley can compete with these guys! Our food was hot, fresh and the portion sizes were out of this world. The only complaint that I have (more like my wife) was that I was a little gassy on the car ride home (wife did not like) but hey, that comes with the territory! Looks are deceiving with this unusually placed restaurant. I wasn't expecting much but was blown away. The food is absolutely amazing and is the freshest most authentic Mexican food I have ever had. I was visiting from California and I am so glad I didn't pass this by. Mexican food will never be the same again. Not sure anyone can top these guys now. I had the taco and enchilada plate and even the rice was super fresh and perfect texture. I've eaten at Plaza Azteca about 7 or 8 times. The food has been excellent up until recently. I went on my birthday this month and it was disappointing. The salsa, which has always been superb, was super hot and they had tried to water it down. It seemed like the cheese enchiladas had been prepared differently (esp. the cheese sauce) and they were not nearly as good. I'm hoping it was just a freak occurrence so I'm willing to try it again. read more

I could not be more disappointed. I had dined here twice before. The food was as good as you could hope for when seeking Mexican food in Pennsylvania. My parents who are elderly and walk with canes love Mexican, so it was time to bring them to this new place. We got there before 4 pm so we wouldn't deal with a wait. It's just too hard on my parents. I requested a table because their mobility is impaired to get in a booth. She informed me that a wait for a table would be 35 minutes. I said ok then we will take a booth. As we stood there I said we were ready and she said a booth would be a 35 min wait. I looked over the sea of empty booths. She said we can wait at the bar. I told her my parents could not get into a high chair. I asked if we could bring over the two short chairs for them to sit. I was told no. They had to sit on the bench in the foyer. It is 20 degrees. No heat. And the door to the outside when opened slams into the bench. I let her know that it's freezing out there and my parents are elderly. She sternly said. You can't wait in here. (A big open area with plenty of space along the walls.) we attempted to stand against the wall. We were told we can't. I said we don't mind waiting 35 minutes at a booth. But I needed a place for my parents. She said you can't. A lot of our wait staff will be going on break. We said we would have to leave and I asked her to convey to her management that they need to be more accommodating when dealing with the elderly. She could have cared less and I was polite and cordial in all that I had said. This was an extreme failure for this restaurant in customer service. And humanity. We have gone elsewhere and will not return. read more

This is a tough one. This place is close to my home. They were just about to open when the shutdown happened. When they did finally open we went and it was amazing. I've brought my family , friends, mg wife and I have been there maybe 13 times. When we first started, everything I ordered would be my favorite thing. Then next time I would order something different and then that was my favorite thing. So I order. It's delicious. We go again I order the same thing. It's completely different. I asked why is this so different from last week. She said " oh it depends on who's cooking, they all kinda make it different." Consistency is key in everything especially restaurants. This wasn't the only time things came out different. You can ask for a sauce that came with it last time. They'll have no idea what you're talking about and they'll bring you anything. We kept going here because the food is really good and it's local but I'd say the last 3 times we've gotten food it hasn't been great, the service as been pretty bad as well. I gave it 2 stars because the food is great most of the time, but you never know what you're gonna get. However if you are gonna try it, go once or order different stuff every time because it'll never be the same again. The inconsistencies in the kitchen will be a downfall for this place. We've gone so many times but my wife said " I think I'm over the Mexican place " Me too. read more

this place really blew my mind! i was in the mood for tacos and it's close to the house so we went there and let me start off by saying their Patron Margarita was DELICIOUS! i am very picky when it comes to margaritas but they nailed it! Complimentary chips & salsa??! i'm all for it and it was so good! i got steak tacos for my meal and they were as authentic as you can get going out, so hot and fresh when it hit my table, it was great! I'll start off by saying my family and I eat ALOT of Mexican food and have gone to almost every place in the valley. With that being said, I can honestly say I've enjoyed Plaza Azteca the most!! So glad my mom recommended this restaurant as I will be back in the future! The ladies up front were so nice and friendly! I just picked up an order but still it's wonderful to be greeted by friendly faces. I got enchiladas supreme and cheese dip. The enchiladas were amazing and very flavorful! I really like the cheese one best (which is what I always order at Mexican restaurants). The cheese dip was delicious and chips were tasty. I ordered chicken chimichangas and received steak chimichangas. My wife didn't receive the refried beans with her order. I have high cholesterol and that is why I ordered chicken. I ate one of them anyway and got the second one to go. The reason I didn't send them back and ask again for chicken, is because we had to be somewhere and didn't have time to wait for them to make a new order. The waitress was very nice and when she finally came back I asked for a box. I then very politely asked "didn't I order chicken" and she said yes. I showed her the steak and she apologized. I also mentioned that my wife didn't get her refried beans. She said she would talk to the Manager and left. Some time later she returned to the table and gave me the check and said thank you. I asked her what the Manager said and she said he was sorry for the mix up. So I do not think I will be returning in the near future. read more
