A friend decided to send me a gift of food from Plaza Azteca today via DoorDash. The order was placed at 4:15 PM for two items and my friend paid for expedited/exclusive service. Following along the web page, I saw that's DD driver accepted the order and arrived at the restaurant by 4:30 PM and was waiting for the order so that he could deliver it (and earn the handsome tip my friend provided on the order.) At 4:58 PM I saw that the order was canceled and had no explanation. I called my friend and they called DoorDash. DoorDash quickly investigated and found that it was Plaza Azteca who canceled the order! The equally frustrated DD driver, who was waiting at the restaurant for the order asked Plaza Azteca "what happened?". They would only tell him that they canceled the order. The DD driver asked why, but Plaza Azteca told him that they don't have to tell him. This makes no sense at all-- the food was paid for, the driver was there to deliver it and just minutes before Plaza Azteca is supposed to hand the food over to DD for delivery they just cancel the order with no explanation?!!!??? This was the first, and now last time I'll order from Plaza Azteca again. I'll also avoid going there and spend my money with La Carretta instead. #crappy-service read more

Not quite sure what I just ate. I ordered "Enchiladas De Mole Poblano: Three chicken enchiladas in a traditional "mole poblano" sauce. Garnished with queso fresco and raw onion." There was chicken. There were 3 tortillas, but they were flour, not corn. There was some melted cheese, but it definitely wasn't queso fresco. The sauce? What WAS that? Slightly sweet. That was it for flavor. Maybe someone waved a poblano pepper over the 5 gallon vat that it came out of. The whole assembly seemed to have been microwaved. Just. Gross. I'm all for Americanized dishes, but this was just bad food. There are millions of Abuelas spinning in their graves at how very far from Mexican food this dish was. I had a pretty good dinner over the weekend at the new Plaza Azteca Restaurantes Mexicanos (formerly Uno Chicago Grill), located on the MA/NH border. I arrived here around 5:30PM and there was a quite a wait for a table with bunches of folks waiting around near the front door, so I headed to the bar area, where there were plenty of open seats and several flatscreen TVs showing the NFC Championship Game. Score! This restaurant and bar was totally redone (we're not in Chicago anymore) and looks fun and very festive with an old style casa atmosphere with big colorful gold framed paintings on the walls. Love it! I could also hear some Mexican music in the background, but faintly due to the crowd noise in the restaurant. I was immediately offered a drink and a dedicated staff member was walking around delivering fresh baskets of chips with mild salsa and a creamy sour cream dip (that's a first!) to each diner. The chips were hot and crispy and both dips were outstanding, especially the sour cream dip. The bar offers draft and bottled beers, wine, cocktails, martinis, and margaritas. The menu offerings include a good variety of Mexican fare including burritos, tacos,enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chimichangas, seafood dishes, appetizers, salads, and desserts. Combo platters are $8.99 and most other entrees are priced $9.69-$17.69. 21 Lunch specials/entrees (Mon-Fri 11AM-3PM) are priced under $10. Kids menu (under 12) is also offered. I had the Burrito Acapulco ($10.99), which were two soft flour tortillas stuffed and topped with shrimp, crabmeat, celery, and a thick queso sauce and served with Mexican rice. This dish tasted pretty good, on the rich side. The shrimp was very tender, but the temperature of the dish was only warm, not piping hot when served. For dessert, I enjoyed some Churros ($4.29), crispy fried dough pieces rolled in cinnamon sugar layed out in a star shape, served with a small scoop of French vanilla ice cream, fresh apple slices, and raspberry drizzle, a great ending to my meal. The service at the bar for the most part, was good. The food came out in a timely fashion from different servers working together. I was given a refill on my drink when I was running low. However, the 2 bartenders became busy and I waited for a few moments to cash out, eventually walking over to the other side of the bar when I was ready. Overall 3.7 stars. read more

Few years ago, plaza azteca was so amazingly delicious and fresh. Eversince they were bought and manage by new management, the food are salty, super regular, nothing great about it. It feels more like fast food mexican restaurant, the restaurant it self is a beautiful building and atmosphere, unfortunately their food which is supposed to be the most important thing they need to focus on is suffering. I had driven by for years without stopping in and decided to make it our weekly Friday dinner one week. I ordered a Beer-a-rita with a full corona inside. Absolutely delicious. It was strong and large and with one I was done for the night. The food was okay. It was really lacking flavor and seasoning and coming from a Mexican restaurant I was disappointed. Never have I ever had such awful service before. Went for a friends birthday celebration and turned out to be nothing but a headache. Literally! This screaming child would not stop. We couldn't even hear each other. Someone should've asked them to go outside. I told the women it was my friends birthday and ordered a desert as a surprise and did we get it? We have gone three times in the last 6 months and all were great! Their fajitas are awesome, we find that we can share a regular size order of fajitas and it's plenty for us, we don't even need the "fajitas for two" option they offer. Chips and salsa were great, as were the margaritas, all three trips there were consistently good. Also, the menu is huge with lots and lots of options. Dined on a Friday afternoon a little after 2 pm. We were seated in the bar area which had some patrons by definitely not "busy". Our waitress came over fairly quickly to take our drink orders (water) and my friend and I decided to start with the table side guacamole and take a few minutes to decide on our lunch. A different waiter came over with the guacamole cart to prepare our guac. The guac was delicious though my friend thought it had a little too much lime. The chips are thick and excellent! Our lunch entrees arrives shortly. We decided to share the La Flaca Salad with Shrimp. The raspberry balsamic dressing was great and about 5 shrimp were grilled with a BBQ like sauce. We also ordered the San Miguel - 3 chicken enchiladas stuffed with mashed potatoes and chorizo with rice and beans. The San Miguel was disappointing. It as dry and the chicken overcooked. Rice and beans were okay. The most disappointing experience of our lunch was the presentation of our coupon to our waiter. It read Buy One Lunch Menu Item, Get One Half Off, Monday-Friday, 11 am - 3 pm. We arrived at 2:15 pm and were given one menu. It was our first time here for lunch and one would think since it wasn't quite 3 pm, we were given the lunch menu??? Apparently what we ordered was not from the "lunch menu" so the coupon was not valid. We didn't look at the very back page of the 4-6 page menu so perhaps the lunch menu was listed on the back cover??? Total tab excluding tip about $38. Best part: the guoc. This spot literally has the worst bartender service in the Salem Methuen area over the last three years--and I know, I've been to all the spots. The bartender service is so bad, it pains me to keep going there. The main bartender there--she's cares so little for the customers I can't imagine anyone comes back for her. Very selfish and horrible bartender. The other occasional stand ins and help around the bar area have been equally appalling. Possibly a management problem? Sooooooo disappointed!! This use to be my favorite restaurant. Our last 2 visits= mediocre at best. Yesterday, starting with drinks, the soda machine was broken and I received flat Coke. We reported it. The waiter then brought us a glass bottle of Coke, but never returned for a refill so I shared some of my boyfriends water. They did not ask about allergies, so I shared I have a mango allergy. The waiter then explains how wonderful mango is and that he couldn't understand. I had to repeat that I had been tested and I am allergic.. they should start by asking if there's any food allergies at the table. Allergies are not up for debate. We ordered the table side guacamole which is always so much fun. It was done so quickly, she was speeding away as I was reaching to give her a tip. It was tasty. That is the 2 stars. We asked questions because we did not find our regular selections on the menu. I asked for a chicken taco dish without onion. My boyfriend ordered two ground beef tacos. The kitchen delivered the two ground beef tacos, but we weren't sure what my tacos were. Whatever it was, it contains onions on the top. We waited about 10 minutes for waiter to come back. My boyfriend would not eat his tacos until my food was correct, so his subsequently became cold. When waiter came over, we explained this was not the chicken taco dish I had ordered. He said "yes this is not chicken". When I explained what I ordered, he stared at the food and then took the dish. We think it was something pork. About 15 minutes later he returned with the correct dish. The soda was empty. We had eaten all the chips with the guac and and salsa while waiting 15 minutes for my food. No refills were offered or delivered. Another waiter stopped by to take our empty dishes. We asked for a box and he brought it. Our waiter stopped by asking if we wanted anything else and we said just the bill. He came back about 10 minutes later with it. We did a lot of waiting for poor limited service and for incorrect food selections, resulting in cold meals and not so much fun. It's unfortunate because we have bragged about this restaurant and it has always been our "go to" restaurant even if we just got drinks and guacamole. We won't be back. read more
