Unfortunately Plaza Azteca has changed for the worst. Recently it has undergone new ownership that seems to be driving the place into the ground. The menu is different and really has taken the Mexican feel right out of the place. The drinks are SO overpriced, recently ordered the Flag margarita which was awesome but the price was $18.99. I remember the drinks when they were stronger and had a nice presentation now they are just plain and lackluster. The food has gone downhill and isn't as good as other competitors right down the road. The service here has never really been that great, so it's still the same I suppose. Had been to this restaurant many times in the past and had a great experience. It's been about 5 years since the last time we were there so decided to meet up with friends on Saturday night. Food was good but the service was horrible. We had Roberto V and he rushed us from the minute we sat down. We ordered the guacamole to be made at our table and 5 minutes after it arrived dinner came out. We hadn't even finished our dinner and Roberto asked if we wanted dessert. When I said we weren't ready for that yet, he told me the restaurant has a 90 minute policy so if we weren't going to have dessert he needed the table for another party. I looked around and a few tables were empty and I could see straight into the waiting area and no one was there. One member of my party ordered Churros for dessert and asked Roberto for a fork. He was told you eat them with your fingers. Again my friend asked for a fork and again Roberto said it was finger food. We finally got the fork but it came with a LOT of attitude. Beware when you order the guacamole app, it's a huge portion prepared table-side that is enough for 5 people! One thing I find odd is the valet parking. The parking lot is not very big, and then they dedicate a huge portion of it to valet parking! I don't understand the need for valet when the place has its own parking lot! This causes many people to circle aimlessly looking for a spot and most of the time people end up parking at other businesses as well. A friend brought me here because he swears by their food. I was pretty excited to eat some good guac and queso. This place is massive, and must be great for parties. It was pleasantly surprised that the waiter spoke in Spanish first. I appreciated it because I speak it [60%], but my friend was really lost. They started off with a giant serving of chips and salsa. The salsa had a kick, and was honestly my favorite thing of the night. I ordered the quesadilla, and a side of guacamole. The portions were massive so that was my lunch for the next day. This isn't the first time I've been to Plaza , but it is the first time I noticed the OUTRAGEOUS price of the margarita on my bill: $15.99 !!! Prices were not listed on the menu and I'm not particularly cheap but the margarita I had was definitely not worth what they charged. I should have ordered the chimichanga supreme since I do love more toppings on my food and that was an option but to be honest I was overwhelmed at the number of menu options to choose from- not a terrible thing !! The refried beans were pretty salty, I couldn't finish them because of it . Historically I have always ordered the fajitas burrito with steak - I used to absolutely love this meal but I got it over and over and gradually the quality of the food went way down hill until the last time I ordered it , the burritos were practically empty , but the skimpy portion of steak they did include was gristly and overcooked. After that my friends and i stopped going to plaza. The tableside-made guacamole was always a treat , but on Sunday when we ordered it there was an overpowering amount of lime and not enough of the other ingredients. Went out with friends last night and had a great time until the check came. The three of us decided to split the bill 3 ways and noticed a 25% gratuity was already added. I asked why and was told 20% was mandatory. Ok.... 25% was added. I asked why there was even an option for 15%, 20%, and 25% at the bottom of the check. I asked that the gratuity be taken completely off the bill so we could add our own tip. I felt it was a sneaky move and when caught instead of apologizing I was met with attitude and disrespect. Good drinks. Food was ok but has certainly gone downhill over the last couple years. I would have given 3 stars except for the pricing. They charged extra for extra sauce but even worse, they automatically added 20% gratuity to the bill. We had a small party of three and our bill was $142 for three meals and one drink each. There was no mention of the added gratuity. Most people wouldn't see this and the waitress said nothing. We asked and she said they add 20% to all bills over $100. Gratuity is up to me. Not them. Second time coming here and will surely be back. Food is always delicious and the wait staff is very attentive. You can apparently get a guacamole show which is very entertaining. The rice is honestly gross but it doesn't matter for how good everything else is. Salsa is definitely homemade because each batch does taste a little different each time you come, but that's how you know it's authentic. It is more watery and less chunky which I personally prefer. Chips are yummy on their own or with salsa. The restaurant itself is so pretty; a pretty foyer pretty bar comfy booths. Love it here. read more

Went on a Sunday eve with a group of people. The service was terrible. They messed up the order and gave 3 of us the wrong food. We tried speaking to the manager, but he told us we got what we ordered. Our waitress had to show him the order to prove we were right. What manager argues with customers? So some people got dinner 10 minutes after the first plates were brought out. One person was still waiting 15 minutes into the meal, and he wasn't even one of the three orders they got wrong. They just forgot his order. We were basically ignored after that. The silverware was dirty, one glass of water had a big black bean in it, there was no TP in the ladies room. Terrible experience. This visit had a few issues. The service was very mediocre during our visit at lunch when the restaurant was only 1/2 full. The Mexican gentleman was very very friendly but there was some issues. The wrong soda was served to my son. The wrong beer server to me, I could tell right way by the coloring. Not enough chips and salsa for my party of 6 yet he didn't offer to refill or even check. The dinner salad a guest ordered didn't come with the rest of everybody's food. We had to ask the server and it appears he didn't even order it.. He apologized, went out to make it quickly and then came back missing some of the ingredients. The food was good. The chicken taco salad was tiny and missing beans and cheese. The lunch fajitas on the other hand was huge. One dinner companions didn't get rice. The other didn't get beans. More than 1/2 of the dessert items on the menu were not available. What we had though was delicious and served with whip cream and a caramel sauce. The decor is beautiful but I'm noticing it is quite cramped. We were seated promptly and it was very quiet on a Monday night. Except for someone on a mic doing a trivia night or something kinda loud in the front area. We were greeted with chips and salsa (average taste) and ordered drinks. The large drinks were delicious and we ordered dinner. It went downhill quickly (actually tortuously slowly) from there. 1 bowl of soup and 2 plates of fish tacos. It took 45 minutes and then they all came at once. Corn soup was very thick with a strange taste. Fish tacos were primarily batter. Even the beans weren't very good. I noticed the table next to us didn't get bussed in the 75 minutes we were there. The waiters were nice enough but I just can't understand the super long wait for food and where they disappeared too between drinks and food. We love Mexican cuisine and have been to dozens of restaurants. The many times we drive by this place we said "we have to try that someday." After we paid $73.00 for dinner (Inc. I say you can always judge a place by the Salsa and chip you get to start. They weren't very good. We went here about five years ago and remembered it being better. 3 stars??????? This place is great. My favorite Mexican restaurant since I've moved up into the area! So many options on the menu. I come here for lunch most of the time and more then half the time I get the burrito steak bowl. It is absolutely stuffed with meat and its nothing like a burrito you would get from chipotle or qudoba trust me. My wife always gets one of there combination plates and is always changing it up. He favorite is the fish tacos though. You can never ho wrong with a good fish Taco. The complimentary chips and salsa are great and they have a TON of margaritas to choose from. All kinds of flavors (very strong) but very good. The outdoor patio is very nice and if you dont want to dine in, you can always get takeout and you can order online on there website, which is very easy and convenient. Overall this place is great. Our visit began with a "greeting" from a rude 'hostess' who rushed us to our booth, without a word. She returned a moment later to drop off our utensils, again without a word. Odd. About 10 minutes later, our waiter came rushing over and hurriedly asked if we wanted anything to drink. He took our drink order and rushed off, without asking if we were ready to order our meals, even though our menus were placed at the end of the table. Mrs. StoneOLD had the Seafood Enchilada which was quite good. I ordered the Azteca Salad which was anything but. The soggy salad greens were topped with a greasy and SMELLY piece of chicken. I took one whiff of it and pushed it off the plate and onto a napkin. I expected to see our "server" again so I could tell him about el pollo malo but; he never returned until after we had finished. I tried to tell him about the bad chicken but; he just laughed and ran off. I know there may be a language barrier but; I think, "Hey, that chicken is bad" should be universally understood. Maybe the 5% tip will incentivize him to become more attentive. In summary: Rude Hostess + Poor Service + Rancid Chicken Over Soggy Salad = ZERO Stars. Only the Seafood Enchilada and Yelp's lack of a ZERO Star option got them to a single star. There are many, much better Mexican options in the area. AVOID this place. read more

My wife and I have been driving past the construction of this restaurant for months, waiting for it to open. We might be Mexican food junkies and have eaten at dozens of Mexican restaurants. Plaza Azteca has some of the best food that I have ever eaten. My wife ordered the an enchilada with shrimp and crabmeat while I had the california fish tacos. The nachos that they place on your table are accompanied by a spicey sour cream and a separate bowl of salsa, which is sweet with some bite. The atmosphere was incredible, staff was very friendly, and the $9.99 28 oz margarita was fantastic. We plan on eating here weekly. read more
